Very unimpressed with our experience at Prohibition. My friend and I ordered a pitcher of sangria with no ice because we didn't want it to get all watery. Our server said sure, but the pitcher won't be full, and we said we were fine with this. Fast forward 10 minutes, we get a pitcher of sangria that was 75% ice. This gave us two glasses of ice-filled sangria, plus another glass of watery sangria that we didn't even drink because it was so gross. On top of this, my partner's beer was just above room temperature. Do not recommend. (See picture below; note that some ice from the pitcher is in the glasses and some had already melted at this point). Response to owner: I understand that ice enhances certain drinks; however, it is clear that an excessive amount of ice is added to the sangria to save on money rather than improve the quality of the drink. This is evident from looking at the photo I posted. As I said, we only got two glasses of sangria (which weren't even close to full because there was so much ice in them) and we couldn't drink the rest because it was so watery. If quality was your concern, then surely you wouldn't want to serve watery sangria. After all, "juicy wine" (as you called it) is better than watery sangria, especially at $30 a pitcher. Many other restaurants manage to serve excellent sangria without making it 75% ice.

Our experience at Prohibition Public house was amazing. We went there for brunch when we visited Ottawa last October 2021. Food was delicious. We also loved the ambiance. Definitely we will be back.

Great place and ambiance for a drink and chat amongst friends. Although a bit pricier than other places, the rustic charm is there

We had reserved this place for a birthday brunch and I was really surprised of how spacious this place was. The hostess was very friendly and customer service was impeccable. The food tasted so fresh! I had the salmon benedict and it is my all time favourite benedicts! It is reasonably priced and I will definitely be back!

The Prohibition Public House has become one of our favorite brunch places in Ottawa. Cozy atmosphere, friendly service and what can we say about the « Brunch-cuterie » board. Love it! Perfect way to sample so many (locally sourced and in-house products) delicious savory and sweet options. • Special thanks to Fred for his impeccable service. Let’s not forget the tasty and beautifully crafted cocktails. Thanks you for another delightful Sunday brunch. Until the next time…

Great breakfast/brunch restaurant! We got seated right away (without reservation) on Saturday mid-morning. Drinks are good and the breakfast charcuterie plate was amazing!!! Everything on the board was so good. The server told us that they made everything in-house. Service was great and prices were just right! Highly recommended!!

My husband and I went there for the first time and was very pleased with the quality of the food & service. The service, couldn't ask for better ! They were quick, friendly, efficient and gave good recommendations for drinks and food. The shrimp ceviche was amazing, so flavorful. The hamburger was quite juicy and flavorful 🤩 we will be coming back.

This was $42. Now... normally for that much Brisket. That would be fine and acceptable but the Brisket was so mediocre and boring. Didn't fall apart, didn't fill my mouth with flavour. I constantly had to tell myself that is was infact brisket. Just felt like I was eating a chunk of meat. Mashed potatoes portion comparative to the meat were made so tiny that some would could call them non existent. Seasonal vegetables were a joke.

A top notch pub in downtown Ottawa. The service was very friendly and warm . The server made a real effort , introducing himself by name and remembering my entire table's names throughout. Good recommendations on beverages and foods which were spot on. Seems like a well-knit team that enjoys working here. The food was delicious also. the beef and squid dishes were tried and were outstanding. truly a 10/10. The vibe is great. Music was perfect for the cozy setting. Definitely a gem of a place in the downtown area!

Wow impressive. Exceptional food! Love the duck wings, $5 each for a decent size duck drumstick - crispy smoky on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside. The boar burger is yummy too, love the pork belly on top of the patty. The patio is well decorated, great summer vibe.

Several items weren’t available on the menu which narrowed the entrees down to 3 items. Appetizers took 2 hours be served. Place looked great from the outside, but don’t waste your time going here !

Amazing brunches and great service. The breakfast tacos are really good and stuffed to the brim. The home fries are some of the best I’ve ever had! My wife and I will definitely be returning. Maybe next time we’ll both get the bottomless mimosas :)

We visited the Prohibition Public House with enthusiasm and high expectations but left feeling underwhelmed and over charged. We have a wonderful server named Sam (who was also the bartender). Overall his service was fantastic. We ordered the Jake Walk and the Speakeasy cocktail. Both delicious! For appetizers we order the mushroom tacos. I highly recommend! Now the aspects that left us yearning for more. The music was a tad loud. I'm not that old, a fresh 30, but I could barely hear the conversation from across the table. I love music that bumps, but this was over the top. Next, was the mains. I ordered the butter squash gnocchi. The gnocchi was barely able to stay together. Granted it was tasty, but the texture was closer to firm mashed potatoes when you bit into it. Additionally, the dish lacked the necessary salt to bring the flavors together and the sweet pea puree was very thick and did not have the consistency of a sauce (which it was trying to be). For the price of $32 per plate, I expected better. A fellow diner at our table ordered the vegetarian tagliatelle. In the menu it stated there would be blistered tomatoes, bussel sprouts, and veggies. It was completely missing the veggies and only contained the blistered tomatoes and Brussel Sprouts. It was brought to the attention of a staff member, but no one visited the table to rectify the situation, nor did our waiter check in after our food arrived. We waited longer (until the rest of the table had finished their meals) and finally got the attention of our waiter, who did get the dish re-made. The entree was given free of charge at the end of the night which was appreciated. I would like to give this place another chance, but feel my money is better spent just a few doors down at Jabberwocky or union 613.

Good service, and both food and drinks were quite excellent. Will definitely be returning again! I had a tagliatelle pasta dish, with added duck confit which just added extra decadence to the dish.

Had the most lovely experience at Prohibition this week!! Our food was absolutely delicious, but more importantly our service was phenomenal! Our server Julia was attentive and knowledgable on the menu. She even went out of her way to arrange a surprise piece of cake delivered to our table for my boyfriends birthday. She was fantastic at her job and truly made our experience memorable! Our cocktails made by the bartender (August?) were also delicious! We will be back and recommending to family and friends!

I went here for the first time on New Year’s Eve and had their Table D’Hote menu. I’ve never had anything from their regular menu but I think that I can safely say that their food is phenomenal any time of the year! I had the scallop and pork belly with potato crisp amuse bouche and this was an excellent way to start the meal… and the Prohibition cocktails were an excellent way to start the night! Next was the truffle tortellini starter and it was even better! I still haves dreams about that tortellini… cooked perfectly and absolutely stuffed with truffle. Then the entree arrived and I melted in to my chair. Smoked duck breast with duck croquette! I love duck and this plate made me feel as though I’ve never actually had proper duck before, oh my goodness. As if this all wasn’t enough to handle, the chocolate coffee mousse, almond financier, meringue, sponge toffee crumble and Cointreau dessert rang in the New Year! The service was excellent; the atmosphere, seating and layout of Prohibition is great for a night out, a relaxed afternoon on the weekend, or a couple drinks after work. I will be returning here often because I can’t wait to try more! Note: the photos were taken by my partner because I couldn’t do the food justice, too many delicious cocktails :-)

Not the largest selection of food, but a better selection of cocktails and wine. A bit chaotic with a bunch of waiters around, and even though everything took quite a long time, but all of them were friendly. I had gnocchi with duck and they were not similar to any gnocchi that I had before, mostly because of lack of traditional creamy sauce. The dish was still good though. Also had a glass of Malbec which was pretty good.

Cute and large patio, with covered areas for rain. Service was quick with friendly staff that are easily able to accommodate allergies. Food was a decent portion size and quite rich. Cocktails were fun but also on the pricier side for what you get.

I had a great evening with friends and family. I wasn’t sure if I wanted the burger or the shrimp tacos. The waitress enthusiastically recommended the burger and I was not disappointed. The meat is the star of the show as it should be. Cooked perfectly and oh so juicy. I don’t drink, but my party was OBSESSED with the watermelon sangria. We had an amazing evening out and I want to give a shout out to our waitress who was so attentive and friendly. Thank you for an amazing experience!

Nice yummy spot on Somerset! Went here since Union 613 was closed that evening, and did not regret it! Had a lovely watermelon sangria, their shrimp tacos as the main (comes with 3, $5 for an extra one), and the pavlova for dessert. Enjoyed their patio and quick service. Heads up for fall weather - their heat lamps weren’t the warmest!

I loved the ambiance as we first arrived. We were unfortunately placed in a corner next to a number of loud annoying groups. Not the fault of the pub, but definitely downgraded our experience. The drinks and food were very good, but even still a little on the pricey side. They don't have as large of a beer selection as you would expect from a pub.

The Brunch-cuterie was amazing - so much to share on the plate, and such a great variety of food items. We loved the bottomless mimosa option, had a great table on the porch, and Drew provided excellent & friendly service. Also, their patio is dog-friendly.

A friend from crazy horse told me to give this place a try and man this place did not disappoint. Very unique brunch. Victoria was absolutely incredible even with a packed house she was on the ball. Flawless service. The food was absoloutly incredible . If you get the Benny maybe ask them not over cooked. That’s my only thing one of them was over cooked and was prettt much a hard boiled egg but they were so busy who cares it happens it was still the best brunch I’ve ever had. Make the trip and support this place. The pork belly was my birthday wrapped in Christmas. We will try this place in the evening. Great vibe.

One of my fave spots, great ambiance, delicious food, wonferful service. We were lucky too, we came on a Saturday that wasn't very busy and they moved my large reso to a bigger room that was more private at my request. The bar is so cozy and intimate too, if you're on a date. The charcuterie board was to die for. Definitely a spot to check out if you haven't been.

Amazing…atmosphere, food, cocktails and service! Sam was very friendly and very formative about the menu items! The charcuterie was delicious and was a great size for an appetizer for 4. The stuffed quail was larger than expected for a small plate item. The ambiance was a beautiful mix of Victorian charm and rustic chic. We will return!

Highly recommend booking an event here. From the very first time I contacted them about having a surprise party, they handled it professionally and with care. Matt was so generous with his time, answering my questions and making sure we were set up for the party. On the day we were served by Sarah who handled a rowdy party of 25 people with ease, she was so good at her job. Since it was a surprise party, both Matt and Sarah made sure the surprise went off without a hitch. Additionally the food is delicious - highly suggest the family platter style. Thanks Prohibition!!

Disappointed that they still served their brunch menu after 2:30 pm and we could not order lunch or dinner items until 3:30 pm. As most restaurants do nowadays, they had their menu available only via QR code/scan on camera phone, but claimed they didn't have wi-fi? How can I see the menu??

Came here for brunch before stage 2 and it was delicious. The service was pleasant. Scones were nice, warm and buttery. They have the absolute best charcuterie I’ve had in Ottawa, the different pickled vegetables were definitely one of the highlights on the board. The different varieties of meat and cheese were great as well as the presentation. I tried the watermelon sangria and it is now my favourite. The prohibition Benny was good but the sauce was a bit bland. I had also ordered the creme brûlée which was good but too firm for my liking, it did however come with home made biscotti which was a very nice touch.

A nicely done setting with good spacing for covid-19 protocols. The gnocchi was tasty and the croqueitas were nicely different, but the stand out was the boar and venison burger. Simply excellent. A really well put together dish and the flavours complimented each other superbly. Our server Logan was great and super friendly and made an enjoyable patio experience. 1000 island beers were a good recommendation!

My husband and I were trying to find a charcuterie board and good drinks at 5PM on a Saturday. We were so happy to find this place and it didn’t disappoint! It’s in such a cute neighborhood and the place itself is an abandoned mansion. We did the pick 5 and were blown away! We got the wild boar, cured salmon, mussels and shrimp, Brie, and another cheese. It was so surprising! They are masters at pickling! I ate a piece of cantaloupe thinking it was sweet and it was pickled! The peaches were warm and like a big hug! Everything was well seasoned and so flavorful. There was such a great balance of richness, vinegar, and sweet. We devoured this board! We will have to come back for the 10! We also tried the tacos. The shrimp tacos were delicious and had a crispy batter. The poutine tacos were like a warm hug, but I wish they had some crunch to them. It was all soft in texture. This place was awesome and service was great! We can’t wait to come back!

What can I say! I've known one of the owners, Matt Loudon, for a number of years and what he's done at Prohibition House with his partners and team is absolutely outstanding. I had not been out for dinner in awhile (obvious reasons) and booked a table for 4 in early December . Service was great, drinks were perfect and food was incredible! I had the lamb and it actually came with mint sauce! Something I thought to be a forgotten art had returned, or had never left, at Prohibition House. Highly recommended for all standards of the restaurant business. Congrats to a job VERY well done! G

Had an enjoyable dinner here a few weeks ago. A burger with wild boar delighted, deliciously savoury and with a great bun and accompanied fillings. The fries were also great, and the overall burger meal was both filling and satisfying. On the other hand, the duck dish didn't excel, the duck itself was well cooked, but neither the mash nor the sauce paired very well. The presence of wheat and a singular chili was also a bit odd, atleast for me. Overall, it was a good meal, with the burger being an especial standout and I'd definitely visit again to see if there were any changes to the menu.

I can't begin to describe how amazing this place place. I'm both sad and pleased about the changing menu. Sad because some things are amazing and pleased because it's fresh, current, and seasonal. Their choices are bold and push the envelope and the epitome of how Ottawa's food scene is finally evolving and catching up with the rest of the world. Atmosphere is great. Lighting, seating, music are all on point and service is great. They care about the food they put in front of you.

If you are looking for a trendy and funky atmosphere, this is the place to go! In my opinion, the food is just so so and service is ok. We would have had more beverages after our dinner was done but the server never came Back to ask 😒...a special coffee would have been good. But it’s a great location downtown.
