I felt this place is a one-off bucket list experience. The food was really interesting, and the 44 courses is no joke! It's a LOT of food and all very, very different. One thing I think they were seriously lacking is thought into the exterior/interior design. It impacts the overall impression of the experience and I found it to be very confusing. Between no signage outside, rusty broken stairs, the carpeted floors, odd decor choices, out of place music and general lack of high end design, it made it seem very out of place. I don't know if this is something they go for but since the food is so expensive, I was expecting a lot more from the ambiance/decor. The menu is fun, the experience is unique, but overall I do think it needs some revamping to bring in a bit more flow to what you are eating. Nothing really seemed to compliment each other and seems quite random. I think to bring this to a 5-star experience, the dishes should all be more thoughtfully planned - the flavours are so extreme that a palette cleanser is needed between waves. I understand having a menu this extreme may be intimidating to change, but I do think to keep current and exciting, it needs to be re-thought. The staff was wonderful and the service itself was amazing, but it did really feel like a one-off experience that was missing that ambiance and quality in the space that I'd expect from this price point. I would strongly suggest an interior redesign including laminate flooring, a paint job, better lighting and some new artwork. If they want to see returning customers, it can't just be about the food, it needs to be the full package.

Wow ! What an amazing experience. The place itself is very simple and it was confusing at first if it was open or we were early (very secretive on the outside) . We got seated in the uptairs area and it was very simple not too much decor . I was happy they remove their QR codes from the tables , I have seen other reviews and I was scared for my pictures (first world problems). The overall experience was AMAZING . The staff was so kind and wonderful and everything was so good and unique. Now it is A LOT of food , by the end we were so tired and so full but it was a 100% worth it . We LOVED some dishes others we were good and others average but still good the only dish we didn’t enjoy was the foie gras but thats more personal as we are not big fans of it . The experience takes around 4 hours we took a bit more and we also added the cocktail pairing (5 cocktails) and it was amazing . However the last cocktail was very hard to finish as it was a bit too heavy and we were so full ! A must do at least once in your life . Side note : I’m a veryy picky eater and I absolutely enjoyed this 100% 🙌🏻

Excellent restaurant, me and my wife enjoyed every moment of our 4 hour meal which was a 44 course menu with wine peering. Our server was Excellent, the sommelier was outstanding., The meal was amazing and everyone in general was just awesome. The whole experience was a very interactive journey of a night of blind tasting which made for an excellent 13th Anniversary dinner for me and my wife. After our meal we got a chance to go back to the kitchen and also take a few pictures with the chef. EXCELLENT NIGHT. We will most definitely be back and I recommend this place to everyone who is a food lover.

Atelier delivers 1 experience: $200/person for 40 mostly bite sized dishes. You sit down to a plastic coated table (for $200/person?!) with QR codes and scan them to get at random Wikipedia and website links. Some really interesting and complex dishes. Not sure there was a theme. It's important to read the reservation fine print: no cancellation with less than 24 hours notice - even when you call them because someone in your party feels sick.

Very unique experience! Nothing like it in Ottawa. It's an interactive experience with a bunch of different flavours. it is on the pricey side but in my opinion worth it. There was items dyharated, items with liquid nitrogen, items with flames and items in the air, all while keeping it very tasty. The staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable the food is superb and despite people thinking otherwise you are definitely full by the end! its a set menu so if you're a picky eater this is not for you. But if you're a foodie and love to try new things and experiences I would highly recommend Atelier. The only downfall is there is no actual parking. Overall one word to describe this is : Experience. I would love to return in the different seasons to try their new menus.

I started with the “sage advice” cocktail. Delicious, but disappointed they put persecco in it instead of champagne per the menu. Service was very good, but a a few times we had to wait for plates while dishes were already on the table. My wife had the “bespoke” wine pairing and I had the “full”; on three occasions we were served the same wine which I found odd. The wines should be different labels in my opinion. The uni, baked oyster and pork belly were all amazing, the Foie Gras with focaccia took the cake in my opinion. We did the 40 bites tasting menu which comes in six “waves” with multiple dishes at once. Food was amazing overall I just felt the experience didn’t match the price tag - which of course can be remedied with small changes. Incredible overall and definitely recommended.

What a great gastronomic adventure! The 44-courses had a mixture of delicious and innovative experiences. You can see that the chef and the team spent time to come up with creative ways to enjoy both locally and internationally sourced ingredients, and overall was a fantastic experience. I recommend going on an empty stomach or skipping lunch to fully enjoy (and survive 😂) the 44-course dinner menu. Overall took around 4 hours from start to the finish line. Bernard was an amazing host and explained each dish masterfully. They had a cocktail and placebo pairing available as an alternative to the wine pairing. Like their menu, each cocktail was created to fully compliment each selection of dishes. The little maple birthday cake bite was a nice surprise and end to a wonderful experience. 🍁 Thank you to Chef Levine and Bernard and team for a gastronomic adventure.

Jenn Hall's review on this page could not be more ACCURATE! The menu was very chaotic. It needs refinement. And the food was pretty good, but not the best I've ever had. It was almost $1000 for the 2 of us to dine with 1 full wine pairing and my partner had 3 cocktails. This is the most expensive meal I've ever had, and fell very very short of the best meal I've ever had. It was unique and fun, but the biggest and most obvious let down was the interior decor. At those prices I expected much much more. It is very tired and run down. Really terrible decor and atmosphere. They need to reinvest in the space. And other diners were so casually dressed! I couldn't believe it. We had dressed up for fine dining- they need to enforce their dress code. We felt uncomfortably overdressed. The best part about this restaurant is the fabulous staff and service. That was top notch. But I could never in good faith reocmmend this restaurant to anyone because the cost is not at all in line with the food & wine & atmosphere.

This was the best and weirdest food experience I've ever had. I went to Atelier for the first time 3 years ago for my wedding and it was amazing then. They've upped their game with an incredible 42 course meal now. The evening was full of laughs, even with the staff. Thank you for also accommodating our food preferences. I'll be back ☺️

The tasting menu items were some of the best things I’ve ever put into my mouth. Incredible service, I forget the servers name but we put him through the runners and he knows how to deliver on a memorable experience. Hats off to the people that make this place absolutely magical.

My husband and I enjoyed our dinner immensely. We had the tasting menu of the 44 courses, and I had the pleasure participating in the half wine pairing. Was the best decision! The wine was paired wonderfully and truly accentuated the food. Staff was knowledgable and really made our night special. I have food allergies and the staff knew beforehand and worked around my restrictions. Would recommend to anyone looking for an experience.

We planned a long weekend trip to Ottawa specifically to try out Atelier's 44 course tasting menu. We've been going to some really good places in Toronto for tasting menus but hadn't seen anyone offering anything remotely close to 44 dishes so it really piqued our interest! It was a really fun experience, we finished all 44 items and were super full at the end. Lots of different types of food, things we normally wouldn't get a chance to eat such as snail caviar! Atelier also made it a fun and interactive experience so it was more than just having really great food, we had a great time as well. And the wine pairings and cocktails were also really good. Thanks Atelier and all your staff for the great evening and for the wonderful food and drinks!

We did the Pickup/Take home meal during the Jan 2021 lockdown. It was amazing and delicious! Just wish we were able to keep our Jan 13 reservation! Will definitely be going in person once we reopen! Here is a picture of the dessert...

Really fun experience! 44 different tastings over 3 hours. It was tasty, very creative and entertaining so I didn’t see the time go by. Love the way every dish had a bar code so you can read up on it…or not. Wine list is pricey! But I guess that goes with the territory. The entrance makes you feel like you are walking into the back alley door of the Resto but it’s all part of their creative Atelier vibe.

We had high expectations on this place. We had never experienced a 12 course dinner and this will not be our last. Our expectations were fulfilled, food was incredible, service was as expected with great plate descriptions(french and English). We we’re full at course number 8 (we actually had a late sandwich around 2:30-3pm and dinner started at 5pm), although we had plenty for the price and was worth every penny. (Pretty sure i would be full anyways). Placebo cocktails yummers!! Covid measures are applied everywhere in the restaurant. Highly recommend.

Absolutely amazing experience. We were there for 4 hours and due to the length there is only one seating so no rush at all. I think of the 44 courses there was one I was not a fan of but that's because I already don't like foie gras. We had everything from powder that tasted like nachos to helium filled edible balloon. Definitely worth the price and we also had the wine pairing. The service was also fantastic. Great job Atelier with your new 44 course menu.

I'm not a man of few words. Everyone who knows me knows it's very hard for me to shut up. And yet, no matter how hard I try to muster the words for this review, I come up blank. I am truly speechless. You MUST experience it yourself to understand. The experience evoked flashbulb moments for me (look it up if that doesn't make sense). Atelier deserves, at the very least 1 Michelin star, likely more in my opinion, and I say this having gone to **+ spots. It was an experience that will stay with me for a lifetime. Thank you so much to everyone on the team who made it possible. I can't wait until we meet again.

It was a culinary experience like no other. My wife and I have been here several times with nothing but the best experiences. Keep up the good work!

  • 5/5 Candice C. 3 years ago on Google
I never thought I’d enjoy “tweezered” food, even though I consider myself a little bit of a foodie. Atelier has forever been on my go-to list and I never made it a priority until tonight. I was pleasantly surprised with how tasty and filling the plates were. I was worried that I wouldn’t feel satisfied or have that craving for wanting more after I finished a course. I was more shocked that everything blended harmoniously together and thoughtfully in a way that enhanced each individual flavour featured on the plate - which in my opinion is really hard to do. I had the wine pairing which was amazing, I’m not sure I’d go back without having that. It’s definitely a place to come for a special occasion, but now also a place to come for a great meal with great service and perfectly paired wines. If you haven’t been, you should definitely go! I’m looking forward to the next one!

Absolutely outstanding, one of the top dining experiences in my life, and I've eaten and cooked at many highly ranked and Michelin starred restaurants. Cameron and Devon were outstanding FOH, and chef was gracious and attentive. He really leans into technology, from the innovations coming from the kitchen, to the use of QR codes and cell phones, which connect you to ingredients, techniques and suppliers. Atelier is clearly ahead of its time! I need to add a comment regarding the rare poor reviews online. Yes, there are courses delivered as a chip or powder, etc.. The kitchen is challenging us with textures and flavours that chef challenges us to identify, but all work perfectly in the context of the dish. I left completely satisfied (after almost 5 hours!), and couldn't ask for anything more.

This is such a cool experience, unlike anything I’ve ever tried! It’s definitely worth the price to try once ! The food creations were so inventive and delicious. The ambiance is great. Staff was very knowledgeable about what they were serving and very friendly the entire night.

I now understand why everyone says this is a must-do experience in Ottawa. Absolutely amazing amount & quality of food for the price. The 44-course tasting menu takes the best part of dining out (when the food is placed in front of you) and amplifies it into an unforgettable evening. We were there for almost 4 hours and I have nothing bad to say about the service. Our server was very personable. I enjoyed how high tier the food was but also not pretentious in the slightest.

When they brought out the helium filled, edible balloons, I nearly fell out of my seat. One of the best dining experiences of my life. ach dish was perfectly delicious and the wait staff was very knowledgable. The drinks were also amazing, but they do wine pairings. Celebrated my birthday dinner at Atelier tonight and had a wonderful experience. They happily accommodated our dietary requests and managed to serve us 40 courses, each one better than the last. Our waitress Faye was very knowledgeable about all of the courses, and the sommelier who’s name I did not catch, helped us out with some drink recommendations. Not only was the food delicious, but the artistic skill it took to plate them all so beautifully might be my favourite part of the experience. Thank you Atelier!

I have a dairy allergy and they handled it perfectly - I didn't feel like things were missing off of the plate, which is always a struggle I have. Atelier recently started offering a “drive through” version of their dinners. Beautifully done! And what a wonderful gesture! That is a very work-intensive project for not much return considering the expense I would imagine. Bravo to them for doing this! Highly recommended.

Finding L'Atelier is a bit like looking for a secret sex shop! A plain grey building with iron grill-blocked windows and the numerals 540 on a plain grey door. There is a small bronze plaque with their name, but it's so evenly weathered that it's not readable except close up. We saw several other mystified couples in formal dress obviously searching for it while we were there. Once inside, however, the elegant minimalist decor puts you at ease, and the food delivers: a fascinating variety of superb if understated tastes elegantly presented by expert servers who explain every element of each dish. We didn't order the wine pairing, but overheard the sommelier talking of each wine with equal detail. They offer sparking water and a variety of teas and alcohol-free cocktails for no-alcohol patrons. Expensive, but worth it for a gastronomic treat on a special occasion.

(Translated by Google) Before, I found that this restaurant was too focused on molecular cuisine, but they refocused very well on the essential: quality culinary compositions, accompanied by exceptional wines. My last visit was my favorite. In particular, the soft shell crab was tasty and the lamb loin was cooked to perfection. In all the other dishes, no disappointment: the smallest details were taken care of, from the nori chips to the little touches of fresh basil. My only criticism is that the portions could be slightly larger. Since the 12 services lasted more than 4 hours, I still had an appetite at the end.

Fun fancy dinner, most plates were delicious. All definitely photo-worthy. Staff were absolutely fabulous, knowledgable and fun to discuss with. Can't say I'd do the wine pairing again, we personally weren't fans of some of the drinks paired. I would give 5 stars but I was a little disappointed they didn't do ANYTHING knowing it was our wedding day that got cancelled by Covid. I know they do a special plate for birthdays, I figured wedding days would be worth something to commemorate us choosing there for our non-wedding dinner. Since it's over $600 after tax and tip for two people, I guess I thought they'd scribble something on a plate or give a glass of wine to toast.
