One of the best dining experiences I’ve had. The service was nice and attentive and they went above and beyond to accommodate one of our dining requests. The skill and effort that goes into making the various ingredients used in the dishes is phenomenal and absolutely something to be applauded. I recommended trying their fermented juices as it’s quite unique to the standard wine offerings. Highly recommended memorable experience

The greatest in Ottawa, and beyond. It takes strength to resist being tempted in resigning to the local taste. It takes faith to slough off the mortal inertia that roots Ottawa in its gastronomic dogma. Alice has achieved being in themselves. Fermentation delimits the infinitude of flavour. In parallel to the natural seasonality of produce at the height of their freshness, fermentation brings its own independent seasonality to its wielder. Take one ingredient, ferment it, you receive something, tweak the conditions and timing, and you receive something else. The possibilities are endless. An experience at Alice leaves you sitting at the edge of the horizon. For those who intend to visit, it would be foolish to overlook the juice pairing. This is food that brings tears to your eyes.

Just a perfect blind tasting experience. The service was super attentive and kind with each dish and wine pairing being explained to us as they were presented. The dishes themselves were so delicious and inventive. Beyond any expectations I had. Looking forward to seeing and trying their future menus as they change with the seasons.

Unfortunately, for me, this dining experience did not live up to the hype. The menu started with an outstanding bread and butter which I really loved. While the rest of the dishes had some tasty and creative elements, something about their flavour profiles did not match my palate. Earthy flavours and many charred elements added a strong underlying bitterness that I did not enjoy. Unnecessarily sweet radish chunks brought down a dish I otherwise really liked and the theatrical smoked tofu disappointed the most by tasting of very little to me. It was delightful to have the chefs present the dishes and see the pride in what they had created. Aside from that though, the service was cold and autonomous and it did not feel like I was particularly welcomed or that they cared if I was enjoying the meal. My experience aligns completely with the other 3-star reviews here. I'm sure there are people that would really enjoy a dining experience at Alice, but I cannot think of anyone that I would personally recommend it to.

One of the best tasting menus in Canada! The attention to detail - flavour, texture, service is michelin calibre. Chef Kim has masterfully crafted a menu connecting diners to the produce of the season. Her precision crafting every element of the dish results in the perfect taste. The service is seamless but also makes you feel so comfortable. Cannot wait to visit again!

We had a great experience at Alice. The service was great and the food was fantastic. We highly recommend trying the wine pairing to get the most out of the experience. Each course will have your taste buds exploding and wanting more. Alice is a little gem in Ottawa that everyone needs to experience at least once.

Alice failed to impress me.. both the service and the food items were lifeless. And the reviews for this restaurant are inflated!!! At that price point I expect near perfection and not bare mediocrity. I would rather spend $400 for a dinner for two else where next time. There is a lot of room for improvement! This restaurant is still looking for its identity and needs to stop pretending it’s a “Michelin star”restaurant because the only thing Michelin, is the price. 👎🏼

Alice is a delight. Each and every one of your senses will be challenged and teased with the exceptional dishes of Chef Briana Kim and her team. On July 15 2023 we experienced the cellar menu and feasted on both wine and juice pairings. Our 5yo had a blast trying every dish of the very imaginative menu that showcases several pickled vegetables! The entire staff was lovely and accommodating. Chef Kim is a force of nature and we’d gladly return to try some of her new creations!!!

I was incredibly lucky to visit Alice with my friend and had the most unforgettable and special dining experience here. The staff are all amazing; friendly, knowledgeable about the pieces they bring you, and attentive. The service, the chefs, everyone was wonderful. The food, the presentation and the collection of flavours in every dish were phenomenal. Every part of this meal felt like it was made with the utmost precision and affection. As a vegetarian, it was a delight to experience such a unique way of dining without worrying what was in the meal. Every dish was spectacular, though the butter candle was unlike anything I’ve ever tried before. My pictures do NOT do these dishes justice. I’m so glad we were able to be part of this experience, and I cannot wait to see how the team change things up with Antheia this spring!

Amazing! I took the girlfriend to this place with high hopes, my hope were met and then some. The place looks a little lost in its neighborhood but as soon as you walk in everything changes. The place is laid back and calm with great lounge music and the service is impeccable. The eight courses were all incredible, from the presentation to the taste. The explanation from the chef herself, for each meal, was very appreciated. Amazing through and through.

Amazing food, even better experience. I am so glad I made the decision to experience Alice. As a vegan, it’s hard to find food that’s amazing quality and unique in its taste. The flavour combinations were incredible and the textures were beautiful. I highly recommend for an unforgettable night!!!

Words can’t describe the experience. Food was insanely tasty and the service was on point. 8 courses and 900$ later, I’d go back anytime !! I recommend pairing the wine with the food, it enhances the experience and you get to taste specialty wines:) My fav stays the edible candle, it was the highlight of my night 😍 Just be careful, it’s a plantbased restaurant, but they do use honey so not vegan. We asked the chef and she was able to make dessert without honey for us ! I recommend you go before it closes in January, to open again with a new concept (which I’m excited to try)

Not exactly sure what to write here. I think it would be helpful if the restaurant provided more information on its website. It's a tasting menu meaning that there's 8 courses that are already selected. The food is exotic and delicious, but not filling. The environment is interesting. The staff are knowledgeable and the chef comes out for each course. It is expensive so you should know what to expect. The outside is very confusing and we watched many people walk by confused looking for the restaurant.

With all the outstanding reviews we read prior to dinning at Alice, we had very high expectations walking in. Finding the restaurant was a little challenging since it is a nondescript house with no signage. We walked up to the restaurant and carefully made our way up the uncleared and icy steps. The decor is very minimalist but cozy. The cocktail menu only offered three options which we selected two to sample. The $20 cocktails seemed interesting but failed in implementation. They were nothing to rave about which probably set the tone for the rest of the meal. The eight course meal began and left us extremely underwhelmed. Either the star ingredient was too bland, too smoky or hidden behind competing flavors. Out of the eight courses, we considered two to be good but not great. It seemed like the kitchen’s main focus was set on the presentation (elegant) and not the taste. The staff refilled our water glasses religiously and took the time to explain each of the courses but never once asked us how we enjoyed our meal. At the end of the day, this was a very very expensive experience that left us with a disappointing taste in our mouth. We will definitely NOT be returning. Beware of the smoke and mirrors.

Probably the best vegetarian experience I’ve ever had in my 30 years of life. 8 rounds of deliciousness and creativity. Took the wife here for her birthday, she loved every second of it too. It won’t be cheap, but it’s definitely worth it.

Alice is 🤯. The techniques, the delicious non-alcoholic pairing, the outside the norm flavours and textures. These are all some of the reasons I’d recommend this place to anyone looking to immerse themselves in Chef Kim’s world. All my respect to her and her team! Looking forward to experience future tasting menus.

Alice offers a high end and vegan dining experience for discriminating epicureans of any food philosophy (ie omnivores will enjoy this too !). An 8 course chef’s choice meal was offered, service was impeccable and the courses were presented in a perfectly timed fashion. Overtones of molecular cuisine, with modern and vibrant flavours created a journey from start to finish. Well thought out matching wines are offered, as are matching non alcoholic drinks if preferred and these are delicious too. I can highly recommend Alice for a unique and yummy experience which Ottawa truly needed. (my photos are poor due to low light, the meal was visually beautiful too)

Outstanding service! Creative and tasty dishes. Chairs are not so comfortable for an eight course meal. The multiple courses is distracting if one is trying to have a conversation as each is explained in some detail. Would be nice to have the tasting menu description before the meal instead of after as it seems pretty set for the night (unless it is risk that it may change).

Possibly the most ambitious and perfectly executed meals of my entire life. As a 6'5, 300 lbs omnivore, I was left feeling full and delighted after a delectable 8 course vegan menu. The staff was knowledgeable, inviting, and patient (with all my questions). I can't wait until my next visit to this unique Ottawa gem. This restaurant is exactly what this city needs more of.

This was the best culinary experience I have ever had in Ottawa. What a beautiful hidden gem to enjoy ( I love that there is no signage and it is very discreet). Every dish had a purpose to it and you can really tell the extreme attention to detail and care put into every pairing that was presented. I also really appreciated that we were given a copy of the menu at the end of our experience. Thank you so much for an amazing night!

What a great culinary adventure, Alice presents in its 8 course meal. Original presentation and full of delightful tasting surprises. Our compliments to Chef Kim and her the outstanding staff for their excellent service. The wine pairing is also to be complimented with Canadian wines and I will add, with a certain bias on my part, some great South African wines. great job

While I appreciate the creativity, effort and skill of each dish, I felt there was room for improvement in the dining experience. For one, we were not asked if we enjoyed the food after each course, which was my experience at Michelin star restaurants. I also think some more instruction suggesting how to enjoy the dishes would have been helpful for the tempeh. Second, I was not the target audience of some of the courses. I expected each course to taste mindblowing but there were only some standouts that I would want more of. Some textures were not for me. The bee pollen butter with rye was amazing, as was the maitake & kelp, silken tofu, and blackened pear & liquorice. The atmosphere and presentation were both 10/10. Overall had a very fun experience here. However the beverage pairings seems overpriced.

All tables are well distanced, and each is adorned with its own sanitizer. Masks are strictly enforced for all customers and staff. The layout is conducive to maintaining social distancing. Table-side service and bill payments reduce the need to move around. No concerns have been noted! COVID-Safe Ottawa reviews local business' compliance with recommended COVID safety protocols in order to help Ottawa find safe places to shop.

Fantastic vegan* tasting menu place. Highly recommended. Requires a reservation though, so plan this one in advance. A bit pricey, but I have no regrets. If you're in the mood for fancy vegan food, this is tough to beat! (*Note that some dishes contained honey when I went, but it seemed that they could substitute this out if desired. Better to confirm that in advance though.)

Food is art here; not only in appearance but also because of the skill and knowledge of the flavours and textures needed to create the best and most interesting result. Brianna serves each dish herself, describing the ingredients, flavours and processes used to create the the food you are feasting your eyes upon. I won’t use the word explosion, to describe the flavours, because it’s a peaceful, subtle experience and at the same time very satisfyingly delicious! If you live in the Ottawa area, love creative food experiences, small, clean venues, kind, attentive service, and rare wine pairings, this is the place for you! I was certainly delighted with my experience here.

Chef Kim has made the best food I’ve ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Had a visit some months back in the summer and it was a very memorable experience. Took my brother for his birthday and we and our partners were blown away. We had been eagerly awaits a chance to try the creative and experimental food at Alice ever since we tried Chef Kim’s food back in her previous restaurant, Cafe my House. The restaurant is completely plant based with the exception of locally sourced honey sometimes being used. I also enjoyed the wine pairing with each dish. However, the non-alcoholic cocktails were very creative and a surprise of strong flavours as well. The style is a tasting menu that takes you on a journey through different textures and flavours from a nice little starters, then appetizer, entree, a salad, and then a dessert to finish it of. The menu changes as do the seasons so if you’re like me and can’t afford to make this a regular spot, then the menu will surely surprise you every time you go. All four of use walked away from our first visit thinking this is a place we have to come back to some day. I’ve been eagerly saving up since. Hands down the best meal any of us have had.

Amazing culinary experience from start to finish. The restaurant is on a residential street and had a really warm vibe inside. The food was incredible, so thoughtfully put together and presented. Didn’t take many photos because we were in awe of presentation and couldn’t wait to try. Chef Kim came out to serve a couple of the courses and was very attentive to detail! She wished us a happy anniversary :) The wine pairings complemented the dishes so well and the server was very knowledgeable and told us a lot about each drink. Service in general was impeccable but not in a hovering way. Only thing to note would be that you get one call back from the restaurant after making the reservation to talk about dietary restrictions, and if you miss it they are hard to reach otherwise.

An unassuming restaurant tucked away in Ottawa's Little Italy, Alice left us pretty chuffed. A pacey eight courses were served over two hours; we opted out of the drink pairings but upon seeing the inventive options, we regretted it. We were bowled over by most of what the chefs conjured up. We found the fermented elements truly exciting. The custom tea blend rounded off the meal nicely.

I'm not sure I have the words to fairly describe the dining exerience that I just had. The nearest equivalent is the first time I tried a DVD when I was used to VHS, or the first time I used high speed internet instead of dial-up. This is the future of fine dining. As if that wasn't enough, the staff are also incredible.

My wife and I went to Alice for dinner as part of our holiday celebration. We both had the 8 course tasting menu and the fermented beverage pairing. Despite not having any meat (I'm a huge meat eater), this was single handed the best meal I've had in Ottawa and comparable to some Michelin star restaurants I've dined in Europe. Every dish was unique in its own way and they were all excellent. My favorite was the "barley congee with truffles", it was so flavorful and the texture worked so well in combination. The service was top notch and very professional. I would not hesitate to take future guests to the restaurant.

We ate there last night and it was probably the best meal that I've had in this country. Absolutely outstanding from start to finish. Every course was unique and delicious, with interesting and delicious wine/juice pairings. (Most of us had wine, my daughter had the juice.). It is plant-based, but even the meat eaters in our little group heartily enjoyed the experience. If you're in Ottawa and like fine dining, go to Alice. We are looking forward to returning.

An unforgettable dining experience. The atmosphere was quiet and intimate and the service was impeccable. The flavours and textures of the plates were out of this world - every dish was so unique and carefully crafted. Beautiful presentation. We opted for the wine pairings to go with the eight course meal and this absolutely enhanced the experience. I am very glad I had the opportunity to experience this meal at Alice before it closes this year and hope to visit Chef Kim's next project, Antheia.

The wonderful feeling of realizing that everything you thought you knew about vegan cuisine was wrong. Incredibly inventive, forward thinking, and dare I say it a political act of defiance in the face of food industry standards. Most of the ingredients are organic and locally sourced. The team practices foraging and fermentation and masters the art of food pairing. An incredible gastronomic experience that takes ethics and nutrition to a whole new level of art.

Quite possibly the best dining experience I’ve ever had. The atmosphere is warm with a welcoming staff. The creativity and attention to detail with each dish is unmatched. We loved our experience at Alice. Each plate was beautifully presented and delicious. The service and wine pairing were amazing too. We were also impressed by the desserts. Our only suggestion would be to add another main course. Considering the price ($$$) and that the two first courses were bread (delicious) and one veggie bite, we felt like the main courses ended very rapidly. Nonetheless, we will be back at Alice, good job to the team for their creativity!

This is the third time we've dined at Alice, and I think it was my favourite of the tasting menus we've tried. As always, the food was mind blowingly good, and the service was excellent. Went to Alice tonight with hubby for our 24th wedding anniversary. I'm vegetarian, he's a meat-lover, so I wasn't sure how dinner would go, but he was very happy and so was I. The complimentary juice at the beginning was delicious and each course that came out was unique and interesting. My favorites were the sea buckthorn and maitake dishes. The depth of flavour in both dishes was exquisite. Hubby's favourite was the Yakitori. The setting was lovely and the servers were friendly and polite, explaining each dish as it was brought out. The chef visited the table twice as well so it was nice to be able to compliment her on the dishes at the end of our meal. Because of the cost it's not something I can do frequently, but it was a lovely dinner and I highly recommend at least one visit to Alice if you want a fresh, unique, delectable food experience.
