It
was
not
planned
that
I
was
going
to
spend
two
well
lived
hours
inside
the
walls
of
this
edifice.
I
had
left
the
house
for
Alvan
Ikoku
Federal
College
of
Education,
at
about
9:47am,
hoping
to
start
off
at
the
press
within
early
enough
before
any
serious
customer
showed
up.
Because
I
was
driven
in
a
free-fare
that
was
headed
towards
Douglas,
I
alighted
on
the
popular
warehouse
junction,
otherwise
referred
to
as,
Orlu-road
roundabout.
Now,
any
Nigerian
within
Owerri
would
testify
to
the
insatiable
need
to
save
more,
no
matter
the
means.
This
informed
my
decision
to
walk
the
10
kilometers
stretch
between
warehouse
junction
and
Alvan.
Just
before
Alvan
Ikoku
Federal
college
main
gate,
was
sited
this
awe
inspiring
temptation.
I
feel
for
her
invitation.
There
was
no
front
wall
obstructing
passersby
admiration.
The
building
has
a
U-shaped
entrance
to
the
various
business
tenants/occupants.
The
glasses
that
lined
the
should-be
walls
of
the
business
spaces
were
made
of
see-through
(translucent)
door-sized
glass,
allowing
onlookers
to
catch
a
feel
of
the
enjoyment
that
awaits
on
the
other
side.
It,
infact,
gives
the
mind
an
assignment
to
imagine
the
coziness
that
the
exposure
to
Owerri's
agonizing
atmosphere
wouldn't
offer.
With
that
5th
turn
and
glance,
I
knew
that
the
sacrifice
must
be
made.
It
was
a
necessary
evil.
Like
someone
who
had
just
remembered
a
misplaced
treasure,
I
sprinted
with
eagerness,
and
paced
towards
the
glass
door
where
the
doorman
ceremoniously
welcomed
me
like
Peter
by
heaven's
gate.
I
took
the
seat
on
the
far
end
of
the
hall
on
the
left.
I
offered
me
the
best
view,as
I
could
both
overview
both
the
interior
and
the
exterior.
I
couldn't
buy
a
thing
for
myself,
but
I
felt
it
when
my
lifespan
added
by
1
bar.
Mehn!
Environment
matters
o.
Inspirations
flew
into
my
head
from
front,
left,
right,
back
and
center.
Even
my
behavior
experienced
some
momentary
transition
and
transfiguration.
You
would
have
been
deceived
to
believe
that
I
had
arrived,
until
you'd
seen
me
leaving.
Ah!
There
are
two
sides
to
this
world.
Life
no
just
balance.
I
became
sick
after
stepping
out
of
the
building,
being
hit
by
the
heat
of
the
fire
burning
about
1
meter
above
our
heads.
