This museum really tells the story about Pullman and how much of a loser he was. The building itself is actually super well built and lovely on the inside. You can walk around the grounds, but I don’t know why you would since most of the buildings were burned down or abandoned.

The new museum adds excellent historical detail to the Pullman National Monument. Whether about race, labor, or cool train stuff there's something for everyone. It's a strange pleasure seeing Park Rangers with their big hats in the city. Be careful with the front entrance there are landscaping ramps that I saw lots of people trip over.

This is a nice National Historical Park. I went here and was satisfied with my experience. This site commemorates the Pullman porters, who were black men in the 1800s that worked in Pullman railroads. This site is where the factory that built Pullman railroad cars as well as the planned town around it was. The town is still here, and part of the factory is preserved as the monument visitor center. The visitor center has some nice exhibits about the Pullman porters, Pullman rail cars, and the planned community that was built here. The visitor center is in a small park with some parking, and just across the street from the park is the neighborhood of Pullman that was built around the factory. It has several historic brick homes which are now private residences and an abandoned hotel that is undergoing redevelopment to reopen. This area was designated as a National Monument in 2016, so there is still some work being done on it. The visitor center is in the center of what used to be a rail works building. The north wing is empty and a part of the south wing was demolished, so only a crumbling portion of it is left. I gave this National Historical Park five stars because it has nice exhibits about the Pullman porters, factory, and town of Pullman. Since this is a new site, there’s just a visitor center and a couple of preserved buildings, but it’s still pretty nice. It’s also located right next to a commuter rail line that runs to downtown Chicago.

The museum was nice and thorough. I enjoyed the displays talking about how the company not only offered positivity to the United States, but also just a bunch of effed up s**t. I was surprised the Pullman Porters exhibit was as big as it is (it's tiny).

Free for all visitors, this National Historical Park is an enjoyable visit and an easy walk. This park has a nice and informative indoor section. You might also wish to consider the 1 hour outdoor, guided walking tour into the Pullman neighborhood. Wonderful 2-4 hour visit and very informative!!

The history talk today that Ranger Stephanie and I had was so informative. Ranger Ve Amber gave an excellent Ranger guided walk around Arcade Park answering tons of questions without hesitation. Ranger Gracie was extremely nice and friendly welcoming us to the park. If you love history and architecture this is DEFINITELY an excellent park to enjoy for a couple/three of hours. Bring your camera and do a walk around the neighborhood or take a stroll in the car on all of the side streets.

A fascinating story that's told really well. Great visitor center. Loved being able to walk right into the old neighborhoods of Pullman and see the history in the architecture.

I had previously heard of a Company Town located somewhere in the US. But never knew of it's exact Name or Location. I wanted to visit Pullman National Historical Park to learn more of it's history and the physical grounds. I am hoping as time moves forward. Additional other attractions like Train Cars built at Pullman or historical things are added to tell more of the story from the past. I took the walking tour with a National Park Guide. It was fun to know that he lives in one of the restored Factory Homes owned by the Pullman Company from the 1890-1920 period.

This is a very interesting place to learn about US trails and Chicago’s history. They have several education programs for people of all ages. Staff are very open to give information about the place. The surrounding areas keep their original outlook, so the views are really enjoyable. Highly recommended for a quick scape from the city!

Fantastic. What a gem to have right here in Chicago: our very own National Historical Monument, the one and only that we have. And make sure to check out the neighborhood and the Pullman Historical Society. They have volunteers that will show the actual neighborhood where original Pullman houses stand.

I was so impressed with the space and the people. Pretty blown away actually. Everything is done so well and organize and all faces smiling and happy to greet you. The pride of the South Side is in full effect. All of the Park Rangers were friendly and nice. Cannot wait to visit again.

The exhibit in the visitor center walks you through the formation of the company and provides you with a detailed explanation of the workers strike that crumpled the company and the prestige that was associated with the Pullman name. The government found the company had violated labor laws and classified it as a monopoly. A judgment was given to the Pullman company that directed them to sell all their land holding properties. This strike is also one of the many reasons why we have Labor Day as a federal holiday. For most of us today, we recognize the name Pullman from the hardworking African American that worked as porters on the luxury train line. The museum is outside of the downtown city limits of Chicago. So if you drive, there is plenty of free parking. Taking a rideshare service? Be prepared to pay a hefty price.

Pullman, the planned community on the south side of Chicago, is now a National Historical Park. Nice exhibits on the company and the labor movement

To my surprise, I happen to drive past this National Landmark as I’ve lived in this neighborhood, my whole childhood although I live in California now. I parked went in on Sunday. I met Ranger Grace and Tommie I’m Photo. He’s very knowledgeable they both were. Very interesting history right in our community. Please go by and it’s free. Don’t forget to get a passport stamp

I finally made it to visit the Pullman National Historic Park. While I do not believe there will ever be a monument that truly speaks to the Pullman Porters contributions to our community and country. Having the chance to experience it as the Taste of Chicago visited the Pullman neighborhood. I felt the spirit and energy of their history. Therefore, if you find yourself in the Pullman area you should do yourself the favor of stopping by.

We expect for this place to get bigger in the future. We also hope that they get a train car added to their museum as it just makes sense. The people who were working were very informative and seemed enthusiastic in what they were doing. Great for a quick and laid back museum trip. The area around is beautiful and would be great for kids to run around and get energy out. Free parking. Free entry. Giant gift shop where any purchases goes toward the National Park Service. They have a little bit of everything and good prices.

This is a quick stop to learn mostly about the labor strike and the birth of labor day. It only took about an hour to go through. We wish there had been more about trains here. I think they missed an opportunity to show the production line and the actual workings of the historic site they were preserving. This site was on the edge of tolerable woke for our taste. The facility was clean and well organized. It was approachable even for little kids with short movies they could watch. They had a toy corner for little kids to play while grown ups looked through the museum.

Took my uncle there. Found out family worked here. Grandparents lived in Pullman home. Nice place. Should of been saved before all the damage

The visitor's center and the grounds immediately surrounding the main building were remarkable, but be sure to check out the streets immediately to the south as well. Tons of beautiful homes and landmarks to complete your experience!

Seen in the first year of opening to know it’s in some things a work in progress. Just like the original train trip there is a start and at Pullman National Monument so many tracks to take from labor, race and engineering, all in Chicago’s backyard. All aboard.

The set of experiences talk today that Ranger Stephanie and I had was so enlightening. Officer Ve Amber gave a brilliant Ranger directed stroll around Arcade Park addressing huge loads of inquiries decisively. Officer Gracie was very overall quite cordial inviting us to the recreation center. On the off chance that you love history and engineering this is DEFINITELY a brilliant park to appreciate for a couple/three of hours. Bring your camera and do a stroll around the area or go for a walk in the vehicle on the entirety of the side roads.

This place is amazing. The history and the stories of the people that helped shape this country is so enriching! Staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. Bring your walking shoes because this is a big area as you can explore the visitor center full of videos and artifacts, to the amazing houses and hotel built for the workers. Be sure to call ahead for tour times to see the restored houses and don't forget to stop at the delicious coffee shop in the managers house for a yummy refueling!!

5 stars for the impressiveness of these Old structures. Very impressive if you're interested in old is it an old industrial history. We walked around the general vicinity and two Blocks surrounding. To bring this pack up to speed it's going to cost millions... Maybe billions.

We arrived at 3pm. It closed at 6. We couldn't get in the Museum because they had given away all of the tickets. It was a waste of time. Another fine example of our federal tax dollars at work.

The Monument opened a month ago and is still in the building stage. Hopefully it will showcase the construction of the Pullman coaches. The Monument highlights the struggles of the workers and the Pullman porters. The first union and strike

The rangers were so nice and we learned a ton. I feel like we need more parks like this one. Maybe one focussing on the meat packing industry.

This exhibit was not at all what we expected. We were pleasantly surprised. Lots of great information and interactive exhibits. The rangers were friendly and helpful. If you go on the weekend you can tour some of the private houses in the community in addition to the visitor center displays and ruins of the original building

I coordinated a field trip for my high school campers to Pullman National Historical Park. Just awesome in every way! It was incredibly easy working with staff there. Ranger Sarah was so insightful and engaging. She went deep without going boring. She had profound knowledge of the African American experience at Pullman. My campers were delighted and even talked about it when we got back to camp. If you want something educational, engaging and relevant book a trip to Pullman...you will not regret it. - JW

Just opened 9/2021 by National Park Service. Fascinating social and industrial railroad history museum and vast site. Restored 19th century factories, administrative, hotel, and worker residences. NPS rangers manage site tours. Beautiful locations, adjacent to 111th Street Metra South Shore station. Great for walking or biking tours.
