The house itself is definitely worth it. However, I can not understand why they make groups of more than 30 people to visit with one guide only. First of all, it is absolutely impossible to make pictures with so many people around you and if you decide to go last (what we did), you just miss what the guy says. The entire visit is like a run - you do not have time to enjoy the magnificent mansion, you just try to catch up the guide and to hear at least part of what she says. I understand that the idea is to make as much money as they can but the organisation is definitely far from good.

(Translated by Google) Everyone should see once how the Carpathian Genius lived. Of course, knowing the historical background is important and knowing how most people lived in communist Romania at that time. (Original) Mindenkinek látnia kell egyszer hogyan élt a Kárpátok Géniusza. Persze a történelmi háttér ismerete fontos és tudni azt, hogyan élt akkor az emberek többsége a kommunista Romániában.

It is incredible what 2 illiterates have been able to do for 35 years with this country. The exorbitant luxury in which they lived (and this palace is just one example of countless palaces, hunting lodges and retreat locations they had for themselves) while people were starving waiting in lines for food, living in the dark, with no heat or hot water, with only 2 hours of TV programming that paid homage to the two illiterates and their acolytes. The communist regime was restrictive in its freedom to leave the country, and emigrants were considered traitors. Such museums must exist only to show future generations what the communist dictatorship meant and that it no longer exists. It is sad that there are still people who regret that period, but maybe they are the ones who took advantage of this totalitarian regime.

Really worth a visit to understand the Ceausescu´s mindset and how they lived in their own bubble until the revolution. If the Romanian people would have seen this vulgar display of power and luxury, the faith of the dictator and his wife might have been even more gruesome. The house feels like a time capsule. Highly recommended.

Great tour of the former presidents home. The guide was very informative and the house was impressive. Easily worth the price of admission. Overall the tour took about an hour! Also there were a couple peacocks in the courtyard which was neat to see

A solid tour. The tour guide speaks a bit too fast like he is just trying to get through the info as much as possible. I did the tour in a group of 5 which was the perfect number. The stories behind the rooms are very interesting. The peacock obsession and the indoor swimming pool are the highlights. You learn a lot about the gifts from the different foreign dignitaries.

Fabulous place. Decor. Entrance. Architecture. Furniture. All excellent. The only thing is we taught we booked a tour in English. But when we got there, it was in Romanian. I'd no idea what she was saying, and she did not make any effort to include me. Very little writing in English except a small explanation on most of the pieces of furniture. Would have loved to do this in English.

A must see place when visiting Bucharest. Made more interesting by the fact that this is very recent history. A wonderful piece of history, where you can see great craftsmanship and take in how the last dictator of Romania, and his wife, spent some of their time. 😍❤️

The House of Ceaușescu is a must-visit place in Bucharest. It's an interesting residence to explore, although it's not a mansion dripping in gold or an overly luxurious property. Instead, it's a sizable residence with beautiful interior furniture and charming architecture. When planning your visit, keep in mind that buying tickets online is the only option, so be sure to do so in advance. It's crucial to arrive on time, as the guided tour typically lasts around 45 minutes. Additionally, there is no wardrobe available to leave your jacket, so plan accordingly. During the tour, you'll discover interesting areas such as the pool and the winter garden, situated between balconies and rooms on the second floor. You may also encounter pheasants in the garden, adding a unique touch to the experience. Pro Tips: - Buy tickets online in advance. - Arrive on time for your tour, as it lasts approximately 45 minutes. - Be prepared to keep your jacket with you, as there's no wardrobe available.

An absolute must visit, booking is 24 hours in advance minimum. The tour was super interesting and the guide told us a lot of interesting things and was also very funny. The house itself is beautiful and has very impressive mosaics. Can't believe that a communist leader lived in a versailles/bourgeoisie style mansion, the irony.

Perfect way to see how easy it is to "communist with the a** of the others". While normal people had nothing to eat and all was rationed (even electricity) this dictator and his family lived into this luxury mansion, that comprehend flats for each of the family members) with all possible commodities (even a private spa and a 15m swimming pool and a cinema for the forbidden (for others) west movies...). It's a visit worth to do. Only thing I didn't really like was the guide inside who was clearly bored and had a "mechanical" way to speak English which for me (who is not an English mother language) was quite difficult to get.

This is the mansion where former dictator Nicolae Ceausescu lived together with his family for 25 years. There is plentiful of original objects and furniture owned by this and should be an interesting journey into the world of one of the most important communist leaders in history. Book at least 24 hours in advance for admission! Recommended!

I went here on a Saturday. You have to buy tickets in advance to be sure you get inside. I got mine 3 weeks in advance. They only do guided tours and work on a schedule. For a tourist this Mansion is a must see, the interior design is amazing. The luxury that was inside is mesmerizing (considering it was in a communist country in 1965 - when they built it). For a local as I am, is a bit bitter. Used to the stories from our grandparents, of how poor they were and how difficult their life was - the shock of seeing this luxury is very big. From artistic perspective it is very beautiful. I was stunned by the beauty of mosaic on the walls. So detailed and colorful. My favourites so far are the winter garden and the pool. The mozaic left me with jaw dropped. Another surprise for a lady is the dressing room of the Lady - bigger than the apartment I live in😂 Honestly the visit was worthy. Leaving preconceptions aside, this house is extremely beautiful. Another detailed to be proud of - 90% of everything is locally produced.

House is very „impressive“, the Tour is not. Promised it would take 45 minutes, it took not even 25 minutes. The guide was rushing through the rooms, talking like a roboter, just mentioning one fact after another. When a Romanian tour members started to ask questions in Romanian, the guide answered them only in Romanian and continued to speak in Romanian for most of the time. The tour was supposed to be in English.

Theoretically, this should be one of the main landmarks where one could learn about the communist era and about Romania’s last dictator, Ceausescu. Before our tour (delivered in English), I expected the guide to provide context so people can understand for example, the difference between how Ceausescu and his family were living in comparison to the general public. I expected a bit of history, some interesting facts, something to put things in perspective. What we got was a tour given in broken English, that only talked about the rooms and some objects in them: “this object was received by Ceausescu from Queen Elizabeth”. Further, the guide didn’t make sense at times, for example when talking about Ceausescu’s wife, Elena, she first mentioned she was illiterate and only finished 3 grades in primary school, and 30 seconds she said that Elena had a PhD. Really?? How can one understand the truth about her then? She actually bribed and forced people to award her this distinction, when in fact she did not deserve it… You must provide training to your guides and/or hire better ones in order to improve customer experience. This building is way too significant to be wasted through very poor guided tours…

Very nice museum, one of the best maintained ones that I visited in Romania, the entire property is well organized. The guided tour was excellent, providing us insights and tasteful jokes here and there, very pleasant overall experience. Booking was simple and fast, but they do recommend calling 24 hours ahead.

The tour was amazing and the guide was very knowledgeable about every little detail of the Palace and the lifes of its occupants. I also enjoyed his sarcastic style. It's always astonishing to see how extravagant it is the life of dictators while their people are suffering. I'm very happy for Romanians that the got rid of thiers.

Been here with my family, and we liked this place a lot. If you're looking for sightseeing, this is the place you definitely should visit. We were impressed by interior, and all features of this mansion. You can buy tickets right there, but you need to check a schedule of the tours through their site first, so you will not wait at the entrance.

This is a gorgeous, unsettling place. As the home of Romania’s dictator it is glamorous and beautiful but deeply disturbing to know how the powerful lives when the average citizen was living under austerity and shortages. The tour was ok but did not at all explain who Ceausescu was nor the history or politics. Before going I would recommend you read the Wikipedia to get a full sense of the person who’s palace you are seeing!

Awesome place. Very beautiful house, with beautiful details. I am glad that we decided to visit it. The house is well preserved. The guide did a great job. We had a great time, we managed to see the whole place in a short time. Highly recommended. The rooms, the mosaics, worth visiting. It is not allowed to take videos, but you can take as many pics as you want.

I want to give it 3.5 stars because I felt it was worth the trip but not an "amazing" experience. The people I was with would rate it 4.5 stars but they had prior knowledge of the history even if they hadn't seen the house. Casa Ceaușescu is a beautiful mansion that the former communist leader of Romania lived in with his family. The entrance fee was 65 RON per person and they have 45 minute tours of the house with a guide in either Romanian or English. Our guide spoke English with a thick accent and little-to-none emotion like he was reading from a script so it was a little hard to follow but possible. The house is opulent to say the least! The rooms aren't really that big and functional but the decor was amazing for it's time. The wood carvings alone were incredibly detailed and most of the wood was just panels on the wall. If you're a fan of History then it's a great look at how they lived in the late 1980's and the entry fee isn't unreasonable but the house is big (over 4000 square meters) so if you like to take a lot of pictures like I do, then 45 minutes can feel a bit rushed. You only see the living areas - we didn't see a kitchen or service areas - although the indoor pool was included. Listening to the guide was not easy and the script (although packed with information) was dry and factual. The gift shop at the end of the tour had almost nothing in it to commemorate your visit... that was unexpected.

A perfect place to get a grasp of the rich history of Romania. We booked the "private tour" where you can see the bunker and have more time to ask direct questions to the well-versed tour guide. After visiting the house of the former communist leader of Romania we were astonished how he lived as a private person.

Interesting tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable (although you can clearly see and hear that he's done this tour quite a few times, so he seemed a bit bored from time to time). I agree with the previous reviews, groups could be a bit smaller, sometimes it is hard to find a good angle for taking a picture because of so many people in the same room with you. You are required to wear a plastic bag (they're given to you, no worries) on your shoes so that the carpets can stay clean.

The House of Ceausescu is such an interesting place to visit. One can learn so much by visiting this place. I recommend to anyone who likes history and who wants to learn more the communist president of Romania , Ceausescu. All visitors are asked to wear cover shoes, so the carpets can stay clean. Interesting experience, wish the group tour was smaller, hard to navigate so many people. But the house is very well preserved. Don’t take video on the inside as the tour guide got very angry at someone for that. It was worth it especially if you explore the whole neighborhood around the house in a 15 minute radius— it’s one of the nicest areas of Bucharest.

I randomly fell upon this place while searching for interesting places to visit in Bucharest. It is simply astonishing and worth visiting. You will not only get a view at an over the top residence used by the then president of Romania but you will get a brief history on his policies and the background behind his rise and fall. I definitely recommend also getting the documentary at the end cause it sums things up real nice. I would have loved to see the nuclear bunker but I did not know you had to book a private tour for that. Now as far as the guide goes, the guy who toured us seem to know everything by heart after so many times, and was rather impatient at explaining things, dashing through his script as if his life depended on it. The groups should be smaller cause you do not even have enough time to take a look at a room before you are overwhelmed by those behind you waiting and the guide in front shouting to move on.

The guided tour at the house was interesting but the person in charge was moving too fast. The house itself (the 50 rooms available to the public) was decorated with lavishing furniture and various ornaments. I personally loved the mosaics on some of the walls. They were magnificent, with gold details everywhere.

The place is simply fabulous. Going over history, the settlement is an extremely impressive one where you have the opportunity to get in touch with history, with the cult of personality plus other details that can be extremely interesting. The tours are only organized, with a guide, in Romanian or English. I don't know if there are other languages available. I believe that it is an extremely important point on the map of Romanians everywhere. It's worth visiting, if you can get over the terror perpetrated by the owners.

Guided tour for 45 Lei - takes about an hour and includes only the above surface structure (building has a bunker, underground cinema and cellar which you can visit for 200 Lei). We were able to go straight in - no booking was needed; temperature checked and handed over to the guide. Everything inside is the same as it was 30 years ago - the guide provided some nice stories about some of the rooms and artefacts! All in all it was reminecent of the comunist era and it hits a chord when you think that most of the country was living in poverty while this family was lavishing in kitsch luxury. On the upside we were stunned by the level of Romanian craftmenship for some of the things there - the flooring and furniture in this regard were simply mind blowing! Time and money well spent for a once in a lifetime time experience.

Worthwhile to visit, but the guide is on fast forward. The visit takes max 45 min as the staff is pretty pushy. I was expecting to have a bit more time to look around, especially since the tickets are quite expensive, at least for a regular romanian. Nevertheless the house is well preserved and worth visiting.

I learned here why democracy is the best ruling system ever. Communism may seem the better choice, because it is about the society, about the people, but in the end the ruling class will get richer and the working class will get poorer. It's because us humans are so easy to corrupt.

Ceausescu Family Residence is a tour guided visit, we have been there this November and opted for the English tour guide (there's a guided visit for the French speaking visitors too). It was quite informative in terms of family's lesser known stories and way of life that Romanians never really had access to. Definitely worth considering if in Bucharest, especially if you have some knowledge of the Romanian Comunist era. Plenty of time to take photos.

Absolutely stunning house. The style may seem obsolete and sometimes even cheap, however there are many rooms, which are really nicely designed. Winter garden and golden taps in a major bath and wardrobe are worth spending more time there. Incredible, how a simple man finishing four classes of primary school only managed to reach such level of power and live like a rich man while his people were suffering. Let this never repeat again.

I went here out of curiosity to learn a thing or two on how the communist era was like and left with a mixed opinion. Everything inside is authentic with the exceptions of a few things like the A/C or the lighting equipment. The building on the outside and inside has an atmosphere that gives you a feeling on how the times back then were like or at least how the leaders of that time had it going. You can only visit in the presence of a guide, who is well informed and will talk more or less about each room that you pass through. However, the tour will be quite short or rushed unless you keep asking the guide about anything that you might want to find out about what you see there or take your time to take a few photos and look for every detail. Overall I was impressed with everything but I left with a feeling that there should be more to see.

Nobody answered the contact phone from website, but i said: “hey, maybe people are too busy today to answer the phone or confirm reservation” So today I went there on time, but the door was locked and there was nobody there :) I checked FB: latest update was regarding the re-opening on 19th of November, so quite recently, but no further info about closing or similar. I guess the deceased inhabitants of the palace would be very proud about this type of communication and respect for clients :)

House Ceaușescu exists only in the hometown of Scornicești OLT, in Bucharest it was just a surrogate location for the former fan owners. Ceausescu, most likely the capital's mayor's office is exploiting Romania's sad past memory only for the sake of bringing money to the local budget of the corrupt Romanian state, don't give money to Romanian crooks anymore

(Translated by Google) The online booking went very well and fast. I was called later to confirm the reservation. The tour was guided, all safety measures were observed. The house is very well maintained and about 90% of the objects and pieces of furniture are left in the original positions, showing us exactly how the Ceausescus lived. The guide was very helpful and answered all the questions asked. I would have one objection to the tour. I understand that the "luxury" in which the Ceausescus lived was interesting, but maybe it would be a plus if you could make tours in which the kitchen areas can be observed, of the aids to better understand the differences of "status". (Original) Rezervarea online a mers foarte bine si rapid. Am fost sunata ulterior pentru confirmarea rezervarii. Turul a fost ghidat, s-au respectat toate masurile de siguranta. Ghidul a fost foarte util si a raspuns la toate intrebarile adresate. O singura obiectie as avea in privinta turului.

Firstly, the tours aren’t great. Don’t expect much. Would such you take a note about everything and then read a book that can provide you more context. The tour itself can be improved significantly with more information about Ceausescu, the family, their life, the house, the furniture, the various events in Romania’s communist rule. That said, you must see this place. Big part of Romanian culture and represents part of Romanias history!

Located on the one of the most beautiful streets, House of Ceaușescu is a place to go if you visit Bucharest. As a foreign tourist you have an English guide, with less than 10 euros price ticket. Used as the Ceaușescu family residence since 1964, the house has it's original elements that survived the 1989 Romanian Revolution. The gifts received from Queen Elizabeth II, President Nixon, Charles de Gaulle and other important figures, are exhibited. Taking pictures is allowed but without flash.

Number one thing to visit in Bucharest if you ask me.

  • 5/5 Karsten L. 2 years ago on Google
A must see place in Bucuresti to get an impression of the luxurious life of the comminist dictator Ceaucescu and his wife. I think this is the most luxurious place of a 20th century state leader I have seen so far. Of course this place shows that Ceausescu from some point on only used communism as a narrative for the Romanians that all are equal, which in fact had nothing to do with reality. So don't expect to learn something about communism here but as a temple of romanian masterpiece of construction and art.

You're supposed to pre book but they let us pay on the door. This is a tour only venue. Tours are about 45 mins. Toilets are round the side of the house and accessible before or after the tour. Tour was great and the mosaic designs were great. Highlight was the swimming pool.

A beautiful location (for its purpose) and well organized (the tour started in time), but the guide was very robotic, with 0 passion and just ticking the information which felt as memorated without any additional story or engaging mentions for tourists. A more enthusiastic and welcoming guide would make this a lot better experience. Make sure you make a reservation in advance.

The mansion itself was nice, if a little worn which is to be expected given the age. There was a lot to see and I really enjoyed the peacocks as well as the peacock motif in the Winter Garden as well as the Pool room. It was nice to see the different rooms and the opulence that was super over the top considering who lived there. We booked the tour through Viator but the Palace representatives canceled it and we had to re-book at the palace which was annoying. They said they didn't use services like Trip Advisor and Viator yet they were listed on both websites. The guide was knowledgeable but she spoke very fast and overall the tour was too quick to enjoy the sights or take photos. It all felt very rushed and could have easily lasted another 15 minutes.

Iconic historic place and it's a must visit. The palace was wonderful in terms of artwork and architecture. The tour guy was amazing , funny and informative. The mansion was living place of last dictator of Romania - Nicolai Ceausescu and his family before the 1989 revolution happened and he was dethroned and he and his wife was executed. A great experience if the sole interest is the architectural history/notes of the house. But little is actually put into the historical context of Caucescu's reign. Could've been a bit more public history, and less of an architectural tour.

  • 5/5 Edward 8 months ago on Google
It’s well preserved and a very historical sight in Romania. Nicolae Ceaușescu used to life here and the house shows his incredible ‘wealth’. I personally really liked the chess board, nobody ever managed to beat him there ofcourse! When the Romanian revolution began and came to Bucharest, Nicolae Ceaușescu and his wife tried to flee by a helicopter from this house.

55Leu on official site is good value to see the dictators opulent abode . BUT be careful booking ... to me anyway it seemed an 'audio only self tour ' so we purchased headphones...but if you clicked English it's guided so unnecessary....we were given a number to call for a refund....and got . Girl was very knowledgeable but a rather rote delivery... however she would answer questions between rooms with more emotions about how his legacy is felt locally.....

Although I live in the city for many years I didn't even know this place is open to visit or even that it exists As I had a visitor from far away I researched and gave it a try and it didn't disappoint Apart from the standard luxury house of the 70s, some things stand out, the colourful mosaics, the small tropical indoor garden, the indoor massive pool and the peacocks of course There seems to be much debate about the "golden bathroom" but is just gold plated thinly although it looks nice Oh and the best part is that everything is original, surprisingly the house was guarded at the revolution so people didn't storm it or steal from it Worth a visit

  • 4/5 Alexandra M. 6 months ago on Google
Very interesting experience. To imagine people lived like that during hard times for commoners, it’s incredible to see. Although it is elegant and very well reserved, you can see Ceausescu family enjoyed the volumes and the proximity. I liked the fountains inside the house, sauna, winter garden, pool and the garden with paradise birds, that still live there!!! I did not much like the tour guide, he was very low on sound, started telling without all the group being in the hall. I would recommend visiting 100%
