The front desk service was friendly and good. The restaurant food is overpriced for what it is, very basic. The drinks were overpriced too. It's better value to get food at a nearby restaurant. The rooftop bar is closed from Oct to April. The area is unsafe. Just behind is a large council estate and there are many homeless and beggars walking around out front. There's security in the foyer, but while we were there the glass door at the front was smashed and i saw aggressive behaviour by a number of beggars in the street at night. This is happening right outside the entrance. The room was ok, more worn out than the photos would have you believe, and my mattress smelled a bit funky. Not good enough for the money we paid, it should have been better. The shower in our 4 bed room (725) was not clean, with a lot of mould on the ceiling and walls. They need to use bleach and clean it properly.

This hostel has the best location! I've got a lovely shared ensuite room and bed; comfy and dark to sleep, as I like. The cleanliness was okay, but my bed looked unprepared when I arrived. Good locker in the room, and the common areas are great. Breakfast could be nicer, but the bar area is fantastic, with comfy seats, sockets for charging devices, and a nice view for the backyard. Great place to stay, I recommend Generator Paris.

Not safe. We were robbed while getting our breakfast in the buffet. When we arrived we were sent to a room which had men in it fixing fixtures. Second room had no pillowcases and lumpy and dirty pillows. The buffet - which we didn't get to taste because we had to go to the police station after being robbed there - was very empty. The police told us that people are robbed here all of the time. We stayed in this place as it seemed reasonably priced but we ended up spending a fortune getting documentation to get home and missed out on the plans we had made for the rest of the holiday. We left early as we felt very unsafe there. Edit following response: Thank you for the condescending response re: staying in a big city. There was no security agent at the door otherwise my friend wouldn't have had to chase the person who robbed us. There was no one checking in guests for breakfast - barely any staff. As for the CCTV - I'm glad the worst day of my life is on camera somewhere but it was of no help to us. I'm very disappointed at the response from Generator Paris.

This review is applicable only if you’re looking to book a private room! I’m trying to find a good reason to give it more than one star review but I genuinely cannot find a good enough reason to, so I’ll do 3 because I’d you’re coming here for a hostel perhaps you know what to expect but this specific review is for anyone trying to book a private room - look elsewhere, at the price you have better options! Well, first of, upon arrival I noticed the room had multiple things not working: lights, the nightstand wasn’t coming out, it genuinely felt very poorly kept, let alone there was dirt on the floor and the towel that was offered has unwashed orange stains, I understand this was suppose to be low budget it but I paid ~ 150€ per night or so, so I was expecting at least some decency. Rooms are spacious indeed and bedding and beds are fine, but an overall atmosphere of the room just feels empty and dirty. But none of that would even matter if it wasn’t for the noise level! First of all, anytime someone slams the door the walls, the bed shakes! And be prepared, since the hostel is filled with young crowd and I mean YOUNG like teenagers, there are always people slamming the door at night, running around hallways, making noises, screaming, you could hear footsteps and any sorts of movement from a room upstairs, this is definitely not a hotel where you can get any sort of quality sleep. One thing that was not understood by me, they have 8 floors of rooms and they couldn’t figure it out to be built this way that private rooms have some type of privacy and silence? It just felt poorly executed, the layouts, the noise isolation and the good damn walls shaking is just… I woke up few times from it thinking it’s an earthquake. I do understand I messed up because I booked through third party app thinking it’s affordable hotel not a hostel… but I’ve worked in a hostel myself before and this just doesn’t even compare…

(Translated by Google) Horrible, I booked July 22 at 11:57 am by phone to surprise my daughter who celebrated her 18th birthday on July 28, I stayed 4minutes 50 with a young woman who explained everything to me about the reservation. The fact of paying a few euros for access per person due to covid, this would allow access to the rooftop until 10 p.m. etc. She assured me that my call validated the reservation. On July 28, we show up at 7:30 p.m. and the surprise! No reservation according to them, because there was a private event for 50 people. I am scandalized and exceedingly disappointed because I had not asked for a confirmation email. It will serve as a lesson to me but I absolutely do not recommend such a place. I booked the stay and after a while it turned out there is a travel ban to France because of Covid. Hostel didn't only rejected my request to cancel booking (which I understand) but also didn't agree on my proposition to postpone it after travel ban has been lifted.

I don't know where to begin. On the surface, it's an aesthetically pleasing place, it's relatively clean and well kept. However, the room was incredibly hot and the AC didn't really work; sweated out the bed. Slept one hour out of eight available. The pillow was too small and too thin. Towels weren't provided, but we had to ask. No toilet paper in the common bathroom. You're not allowed to eat in the room. Breakfast, not worth paying €7,5 for not even getting coffee. The food isn't bad, but it also wasn't great. The staff however, we're okay glad to help when asked for help, except for bitterness when asked for enough sheets for the beds. I would probably get drunk before going to bed.

Although the stay was quite enjoyable, the aftercare left a sour taste. I had forgotten my home keys in the room, which was my own fault. However, I have resigned myself into never getting them back. When trying to call the hotel, you have an 80% chance of them not picking up. I have a better chance of getting a random pigeon to deliver a message to the hotel than to actually call them. And it’s cheaper too, as you’re being put on hold for three minutes and then when inevitably no one picks up, the line automatically hangs up. Doing that from a foreign country adds up quickly. Don’t bother emailing as that ends up in a black hole too. And it was never difficult. I could have explained where they were, but it seemed that no one really cares getting my items back. So I am resigned writing angry reviews as a last resort. Enjoy this picture of my keys as I will never hold them again

The rooftop of the generator is completely closed in the winter, despite the fact that their website clearly says it is open for you all year long. This is extremely unfortunate, especially since the picture of the rooftop is their primary advertisement. It also appeared that the chill room on the first floor and the cave bar in the basement are all unavailable as well. You can either sleep in your bunk, or buy food in the cafe. There is no common space to share outside food or wine in the hostel without common areas. Also, the showers smell very badly of mold, there is mold in the ceiling and the towel rental is 6€. Aside from this, the staff is amazing and so is the food and drinks menu. Shiram, our bartender was incredible. There are tons of great lodging and hostels in Paris. Don't be fooled by the great marketing on their website because most of it is all unavailable/non existent. The management was completely uninterested in complaints from several guests about this issue. It's so bad, I'm reaching out to my credit card about consumer protection options.

I just spent five nights at this hostel. There was a significant amount of black mould in the grout between the shower tiles in my first dorm room. The hallways had a strong cigarette smell and the staff were hit or miss. Some were very helpful and friendly, others such as a younger male at the bar was arrogant and rude. I spent my last two nights in a different dorm room with my tour group. When I woke up this morning, the pillowcase had slipped off a little and revealed bodily fluids stains all over the pillow. Please be sure to check your bedding /linen for stains. The major downside is that there is no common space unless you sit in the smokers area or pay for a meal / drink in the cafe area. There is no common area to have your own meals purchased outside of the hostel. There is a locker room and showers located on level one for travellers who arrive before check in time. I greatly appreciated having a shower after travelling for 30 hours. The shared bathrooms however had a very strong pee smell. There is a metro station just across the street which was super helpful and on average to 30 minutes to major locations such as the Eiffel Tower.

Amazing hostel for a good price comparatively to other not so good hostels in the area. The staff was really friendly and helpful. It’s in a safer area, it seems. Although, the area is not as rich with stores or landmarks, but it’s close enough. I would recommend staying here. Is nice that the restroom and shower is in the bedroom. They also have additional restrooms and showers in the hallway. The one thing that would make the place perfect is if there were curtains on the beds. It felt like a very nice hotel.

(Translated by Google) The worst hostel I have ever known. Cold treatment. There are no common areas where you can share with other travelers. There is not a single sofa, there is no TV room, there is no room with books and games ... You have to be in the room all the time. The mattress is terrible, the springs are nailing you. The area where it is located is full of homeless people and alcoholics who ask you for money, cigarettes and have an aggressive attitude. They do not clean or disinfect the door handles, which we all touch in the dorms ... I do not recommend it. I wrote to the central to complain and they didn't even reply ... (Original) El peor hostel que he conocido.

If I have a small criticism to add it would be the difficult operation of the card to enter the room and the office chair which would have been appreciated. I recommend. The room was mostly okay, but the bathroom smelled really dirty even after they cleaned it and the shower was full of mould and there were a lot of things broken. So not a great stay overall, this is not what I experienced earlier in another generator hostel though. The staff was really friendly though!

I booked a non refundable booking late Sept for a 90 day stay arriving Oct 8/2021. I broke my hand playing sports a few days after I booked and had surgery a week later. Had to delay my arrival until October 22nd, 2021 to get the pins removed from my hand. During my stay I noticed my hand was not healing properly so I contacted my surgeon in Canada and was told to come back ASAP as I may need a second surgery on my hand. I contacted the management at the Generator Paris and informed about the situation and was told to supply documentation from my surgeon regarding post operation issues I have been experiencing and why I needed to leave earlier than anticipated. I stayed only 5 weeks instead of 12 weeks and they gave me only $200 CAD refund instead of about $1800 CAD. Even though I booked a non refundable reservation, with all my surgeon's documentation and the circumstances surrounding my early departure they should have been able to make exception and refund me at least half of my losses. I phoned the head office in England several times and left detailed messages to get back to me as they would never answer the phone. They never did return my messages. The management was not upfront and forthcoming with me regarding my request for a proper refund. I strongly would not recommend staying at this place. I find them to be very shrewd and money hungry and unwilling to compromise in the least.

This is the second Generator hostel I’ve stayed in this month, the other being Copenhagen. I’ve got to say, this one should be better, but the Copenhagen one is. The rooms are pretty big for hostel rooms, I never really felt cramped even with five other people in one room. The location is great, close to train stations and like one minute away from a metro stop. The front desk is awesome and lent a hand, even with the specific questions I had. The biggest issue I’ve had is cleanliness. We straight up cordoned off part of our room because so much mould had grown on the roof, walls, and floor that we were genuinely concerned for our health. At no point in our five day stay was it cleaned or addressed in any way. There are also plenty of other issues with the hostel that didn’t appear at other hostels or even other Generator locations, including occasional power outages in the room, no running hot water, and the locks on the doors not working properly.

Amazing views for a fraction of the cost of other accommodations. And for a hostel, it was extremely quiet! Great for older folks or even families that aren’t looking to party too much. There are various types of rooms, private or shared. We ate the breakfast here almost every day, and for 9 euros it’s a great way to start your day. I’d go back in a heart-beat!

This is a great hostel with a super welcoming and safe environment. We traveled as two young women and felt completely safe here! Even though the location is about a forty minute walk from the river and primary tourist areas, I'm very glad we choose this hostel for our visit!

My experience was full of hassle, so I won't state anything for sure. The overall experince was okay, the staff was helpful, however, it was not as smooth as I was expecting from Generator Paris. The customer service and the overall quietness could be improved.

There’s a metro station right in front of it and you can easily visit all the monuments in the city, The staff are friendly and helpful, I recommend this hostel

Decent hostel in a quiet neighborhood of Paris. Walls and floors are not soundproofed, I could hear people jumping on the floor above however it's not as bad as some hostels I've stayed at where the walls and floors are paper thin. In general it's fairly clean, however they don't spend much detail to the cleaning, often tables are not wiped down and the shower has mould build up. The rooms are well air-conditioned and black out blinds are good for keeping unwanted sunlight out. I do like that each bed has a light, USB power and normal power point. I also liked the under bed storage even though people are quiet noisy using it. The beds are reasonably comfortable for a hostel bed. The front desk are friendly but not very efficient and often results in long queues for check in, they should really sort that issue out. I also like the fact they offer all female dorms. Security is done well with security guards walking the halls at night. Although there are key cards that are meant to used for access to places in the hostel, it seems it's not fully enforced and there's nothing really preventing random people coming into the hostel. But overall a decent hostel to stay in Paris.

(Translated by Google) A guard with a red armband on the left arm guards the entrance. When I presented my Korean passport at the reception, there was a staff greeted in Korean. I used a dormitory room for 8 people, but it was okay. However, there was no place to hang clothes in the shower room. The foods bought at the restaurant taste similar to regular franchise fast food. And expensive. The bar on the rooftop is good for relaxing, but there aren't many seats, so it's easy to get full. We had a nice stay at Generator Hostel. The stuff was really friendly and gave us useful recommendations. Our room was satisfying. The only thing to improve would be the cleanness and that there was no kitchen and no common room. All in all we would really recommend the hostel.

For a first solo trip this was the best choice by far! I stayed in a girl only room and met a lot of friends. When one friend left and I was left in a not so fun room Tarik helped me by moving me to a room with people from my age who where more fun. :D Even when I lost my room key Victoria helped me to get a new one. The staff is so friendly and always able to help, the only thing is that the Housekeeping didn't change the sheets that often but for the rest it was amazing for a first time solo trip, thank you staff!!

On our first night a random man with no key broke into our room. We chased him out before he could do much, but when we told security they did not seem surprised or to care at all. The attitude was very much "what do you want us to do about it". Maybe call the police, check security camera footage to see how he got in without a key to improve safety, maybe give us all new keys and reset the door, but they did nothing.

I went there with my school where we shared a room the 8 of us, and it was so nice. The beds, the space and the fact that we had our own bathroom was amazing! The location was great. Food booths all around, never too far from some kind of shop and pretty close to a metro as well. I will definitely remember this place and recommend it to anyone thinking about coming to Paris🇫🇷 Thank you so much for a great stay!😌❤️

The hotel is exactly as described. It is affordable, clean, and the beds were comfortable and nice. Our party of 6 had plenty of room. The location was also incredible. My only bit of advice for people staying here is to be aware of the environment. This is a place for younger, college aged individuals. The room next door to us had a group of young men playing drinking games until 4 AM on Monday morning. Additionally, the smell of smoke was pervasive in the elevators and on our floor. That being said, it’s a hostel, and I wasn’t too surprised by what was going on. One additional thing: no towels are provided, so be sure to bring your own. If you’re looking for an affordable place in a great location (and you don’t mind some partying at times), this is the place for you.

The staff was nice and polite. I was in a 10- bedroom. If you went to university then you most likely know how the beds are. I was able to get a good nights rest throughout my trip. My roommates were nice. My room has a great view of the city and the a glimpse of the rooftop bar which is not open btw… the cafe food is good and portions are big. The hostel is right across from the Colonel Fabien so Paris is easily accessible. I would definitely stay at Generator Paris during my next trip.

This hostel is extremely clean, it has a nice design, but feels like a corporate attempt at designing a hostel. The bar is too expensive and their is no common space apart from a bar where you cannot bring outside food or drink. Basically, eat at our restaurant or eat out for minimum 15 euros. Not my best experience, but great amenities and quick access to the metro.

Pretty good for a big hostel. Location is quite nice with good food and transport around. Beds are have no curtains which can be annoying in such a large hostel. Lockers under the bed require a degree of expertise in yoga to access. Bathrooms are pretty good and clean. Come here and not St Christopher’s it’s awful!

Stayed in an 8-bedroom all female dorm for four nights. The Good: The room was generally clean and beds decently comfortable. Despite being a bit of a 'party' hostel, my roommates were very quiet and considerate, and it was easy to meet people. Food and drinks were good. The Bad: Ventilation in the room was pretty poor and could get quite smelly. The location also isn't very great for solo female travelers. Would not recommend walking to/from here in the early morning or after dark as it's unsafe. It's well connected by the metro and 75 bus route, but a lot of Paris would be. 6 Euros for a towel all seemed way too much. And luggage storage is charged by the hour.

Decent experience in Generator Hostel in Paris. We made online booking and paid around fifteen euros to complete online check in. Upon arrival, the staff the the reception were a bit sarcastic and rude in responding to our queries. Nonetheless, ignoring the initial experience, the hostel is pretty well maintained. All basic amenities are in good condition and cleaned. Bar and restaurant are available on the ground floor with gaming facilities as well.

Rooms are really good, besides the black mould all over the bathroom ceiling and the thick dust sitting on the aircon vents, I'm convinced this has made me I'll, due to the vent right next to my head. Other than the health issues mentioned above the hostel was nice, good rooftop bar, ashamed it closed at 10pm. Cafe was a good chill out spot. Location could have been better, not near any of the major attractions.

The hostel in Paris was lovely during our stay, however we booked a taxi through the receptionist and after a 30min wait for the taxi, a car arrived that had no taxi registration or signage, with a personal friend of the receptionist driving. He proceeded to use his mobile phone while driving and speed greatly, and we were still charged €60 for the trip.

Generator Hostel exceeded all my expectations! Situated right in the heart of the city, this hostel served as the perfect launchpad for my urban exploration. Its modern facilities and vibrant ambiance made my stay truly memorable. What set it apart was the exceptional staff – their local insights and recommendations added an authentic touch to my experience. The rooms were clean and snug, providing a haven for a well-deserved rest after a day of adventure. The communal spaces were buzzing with travelers from around the world, making it easy to forge new friendships and create lasting memories. Without a doubt, Generator Hostel is a gem in the city, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to fellow travelers seeking affordable and unique accommodation! The bartender LEON was outstanding! His mixology skills were evident in every cocktail he crafted. He had a warm and engaging personality, which made the bar experience even more enjoyable. He was also very attentive to our preferences and recommended perfect drinks based on our tastes. His sense of humor and friendliness contributed to creating a lively atmosphere at the bar. It was truly a pleasure to spend time at the bar thanks to him, and his cocktail creations are unforgettable. I highly recommend paying him a visit for an exceptional bar experience! 😊

Absolutely spectacular service from Laila and Santiago. They truly brought customer service and hospitality to the table, they make coming to this location feel like home. I truly was blown away with how authentic, loving, caring they were and how they just tried to make our stay as comfortable as possible and to help us out any way they could, with answering our questions, providing recommendations, attending to our needs, and treating us immaculately. They truly are professionals in their field and are the reason why this hostel is popular, people like them make guests want to come back. They are the most lovely staff I have met here and I'm truly happy to have chosen generator hostel. I booked one day and I have continued to stay here for a week and a half because of their amazing service. Thank you Layla and Santiago. You truly made my holidays spectacular and I'm grateful eternally for you guys!!!!

The customer service on the phone was absolutely horrible! I had some trouble on the way and missed the first two nights and they just cancelled my stay even when I had called them that I will arrive 2 days later. Luckily the staff on the reception helped us get the booking back and there still had space. Otherwise we would have been homeless because of the bad service on the phone. Once we were in the hostel, everything was fine. The room is not bad (8 bed female dorm). The only weird thing is they somehow give the same bed to many people so there is always someone sleeping in your bed and you have take another one. Coffee in the bar is good and reception was always friendly and welcoming throughout our stay. Overall an OK budget choice for paris. Great location for public transport.

BEWARE I can’t give this location 0 stars but if I could I would. Be careful I came as a solo traveler that does not know French and was too green. The staff refuses to help and threatened to kick me out today even when I told them I was being scammed by a person sharing my 4 bedroom and that the individual was threatening me. They do not care about your safety. I should have left my first night when one of my original bunk mates tried to steal another guys phone and the police were involved. I was scammed by a Romanian on my third night out of thousands of dollars. Do not trust anyone!!! When I went to the police they refused to help. As I tried to leave this hostel the scammer tried to prohibit me from getting out of the hostel and in the car. I had to leave this room without the rest of my belongings and they are still at the hostel because of fear of going back into my room. I lost money and belongings. Beware and for your safety do NOT stay here. NOT safe, NOT clean, NOT helpful.

Well.. you can stay at reasonable price and especially staff was so nice! mustafa, he is staff in the hostel, is so kind. I lost my jacket but he helped to find out. Even though it's simple favor, I was so appreciated about his good attitude!

There's a nice cafe/lounge in this hostel but the music was so loud all day and gave me a headache! I was using ear plugs but it was still too loud. People are working on their laptops during daytime so l don't understand why they don't turn down the music a little during daytime. Nowhere else quiet to sit down. For this reason l won't stay here again.

great experience, made better from the service of Laila at the front desk giving good recommendations for pubs, and free towels. very lively venue, with a bustling karaoke night and lots of people going in and out of the hotel. however, the share rooms in particular are not for the weak-hearted, and the covers on the beds feels rubbery. perfect venue for a low budget trip.

Would not recommend. The rooms were dirty, my sheet had black stains on it. There is mold in the bathroom. There were some insects. The toilets are not cleaned regularly. The floor looks as if it is rarely cleaned. Nothing was working as it should: the shower door was broken, there was no hand wash. Also, the boxes under the bed make a Lot of noise when you open and close them which makes it hard to sleep when others are leaving/entering.!Service was ok. But definitely do NOT recommend, not even for one night.

One of the best hostel experience I had in Europe. The rooms are big and clean. The bathrooms are of convenient size. There is a full size mirror as well as make up mirror with lights. They also have a hand hairdryer. Even though I visited just after Corona lockdown, they were very hygienic and maintained cleanliness. The rooftop is beautiful with a view of sacre coeur. I would definitely like to visit this in its full occupancy to meet people and hang out on rooftop bar!

Great hostel with a okay neighbourhood. They have a night club in the basement, an okay cafe, nice rooftop. Rooms were cleaned but there is no safe in the room. Just a nice place for a cheap price (when you book some time before) the curtains close very well and its dark in the room.

Fantastic hostel, great staff. Rooms are very neat. They have a bar/ nightclub to chill, socialize and even party at their basement. Lots of nice people around. If your doing a solo or budget trip. Definitely worth checking this place out.

Stylish, new hostel with good room concept (we had a 4 Person privat room). Restaurant always closed, rooftop bar closed at 22:00 already. Room floor very dirty - even after re-cleaning.

Very nice and happening place. Has its own club and rooftop bar. Metro is at 200m and the major line M2 is connected so all the places to visit in Paris is directly on this and no need to change many metro lines. Food restaurant are so nearby with varied cuisines - continental, chinese, indian, arabic. Very clean and very well managed by staff.

Went there on a college trip, so unfortunately we had to stay in a shared room which wasn’t ideal. When we got there, the room hadn’t been cleaned properly, there were hairs everywhere, and a used tissue in my bed. The food at the restaurant downstairs was very good though, and all the staff were friendly.

(Translated by Google) The hostel is in great condition. You have a light, a socket, a USB port and a net to store your things on your bed. There is also a large drawer for suitcases under the bed. Our room had a space for a shower, an extra space for a toilet and another washbasin on the door. There were also showers in the hallway. However, the food wasn't that good.

The service was excellent and the price was great. The staff were friendly and super helpful. The facilities were above what I expected...the rooftop, cafe and the nightclub were all amazing. It's right next to a metro stop so it's easy to get around Paris. There are restaurants all over and a franprix right across the street. The only reason I didn't give it a five was because of the heating issue we had. Otherwise everything was awesome. I'd definitely recommend this place!

Pros: Didn't have to pay til day of arrival. Desk staff is friendly, efficient and helpful. Room was a decent size for eight people with lounge chairs, side tables, mirrors and an ensuite shower/sink. Rooftop bar was awesome. Bartender(tall and lanky) was really nice. Beautiful view of the city. Daily maid service for general cleanup of room. Storage lockers under bunks (locks can be purchased at front desk). Charging stations and lights in each bunk. Club and cafe on site besides the rooftop bar.Close to public transit and close to shops and cafes. And not a bad walk to the Gare Du Nord. Also, security is on premises. Cons: Shower was clogged up from hair the first couple of days but was fixed upon asking. Bunkmates brought and left food, glassware and silverware in room. Left windows open on chilly autumn nights repeatedly. Turned overhead lights on upon arrival while others were sleeping (curtains in the bunks would help). No hand towels or paper towels supplied at sink. What could be added/fixed: Hand towels/paper towels at sinks. Free of charge. Curtains on bunks. Any food left out being immediately disposed of by cleaning staff the next day. A reminder card to hostel guests to be courteous to bunkmates, hygenic and to leave space for others to use the in room facilities/areas. I would definitely stay here again and have already recommended it to others but I probably wouldn't book a eight person room again. Maybe a six, max. It got a bit too messy and dirty for my tastes. As I said, reminder cards and posters up around the hostel about hygenine, cleanliness and courtesy might help.

(Translated by Google) I only put 2 stars: the hostel is however not bad, in terms of value for money, it is correct. There are cheaper, but of lower quality. Here, I had a private bathroom, everything is new ... The location on a roundabout is still not great, it must be said. The staff were friendly. On the other hand, at the end of my stay, I was missing three objects, of which I am at least sure, for one of the three, of having used it in the room, and of never having taken it out. worth 70 euros (only from the 3rd object!) and as I slept alone, I can only suspect a hotel worker ... No compensation has been offered to me at this time. The bed was super hard and uncomfortable, the room was way too hot and only one window opened partially. The room had a shared bathroom/shower which was kinda nice, but the shower wasn’t consistently warm. The bar downstairs was really expensive, I walked to the cafe around the corner for beer less than €8 a pint. I personally won’t be staying here again but if you’re on a SUPER tight budget and desperately need somewhere OK to stay, I guess this place would work.

My stay was just OK - things to improve include the lack of soap in shared bathrooms, dirty bathrooms in dorms and shared areas, hard mattresses and food in the restaurant. Things that were great include the abundance of hand sanitiser stations, spotless bed linen and location. Note the surrounding area (in some directions) isn't recommended for solo females after dark.

No nonsense hostel, has all the necessary facilities for the price. The checkin queue could take a while though. Bring towel or pay extra for it. The cafe and the restaurant serves a good variety of choice.

  • 2/5 Awut A. 2 years ago on Google
Uncomfortable beds, my card into my room stopped working twice, once when coming in quite late and had to queue for a really long time to get it fixed. Not enough staff at reception when it gets busy. You can hear everything going on outside from your room. No noise insulation. Every slam of a door in the corridor. Bathroom was nice and big and clean. Fire alarm went off at 5 in the morning. Did not sleep well at this hostel and for a private room I think the price should be cheaper than what it was.

It's OK regarding the value to services provided and cleaning, but in comparison to hostels in all countries, I have visited its the worst , the receptionists are great and helpful, the security guard is a respectful guy and he makes sure not to enter with a Alcool .

The room was terrible and dirty. I asked for refund, but they ignored to pay me the refund and they told me that my reservation was non-refundable. If you call them for asking questions or information (number 3), they will never answer to your calls. But if you call and ask for booking or reservation process, then they will say welcome to you. They only need your money. As soon as you paid for it, nothing is correct.

The private room was excellent for a hostel. The location was a little far out but still pretty handy. We walked or caught the metro into the tourist attractions and Ubered back. The bar downstairs was convenient. The locale restaurants where nice especially the soul food kitchen. The staff were friendly and helpful. We had some minor issues with the smell of cigarette smoke but it only lasted the first two nights. All up, it was a good stay.

  • 4/5 N B. 2 years ago on Google
Very clean and airy with good spaces. Good staff. Good location. Two good bars. Private rooms are nice, only minus is the lack of telly on them or other nice comforts. Also a lack of option on flexible travel plans. Wifi is pretty decent. As is the bars food and drinks and service. Some music nights on their club space and fresh air on the roof top with views. Quite efficient. A good crowd.

  • 3/5 Gorka S. 2 years ago on Google
The hostel itself is very clean and the rooms are top tier. The bad thing is that it lacks of a common area to meet other guest (there’s a bar/cafeteria but it isn’t sufficient). There’s also a disco at the down floor but it was closed. The last thing is that it is away from all the cool things in Paris. I would recommend to avoid this hostel if your visiting to party and get to know paris, but if you’re traveling for business/school or to stay in a place meanwhile you get something it is good. I REPEAT NO FOR SOLO TRAVELERS WHO WANT TO HAVE HOLIDAYS IN PARIS AND MEET PEOPLE.

I never felt so welcome in my life. Those girls Salma, Margaux and Thayna made me feel so welcome that I had to cancel other reservation in another hostel to remain at generator. Also, rooms are big, with mirrors(very important), functional and clean. Bus and subway (metro) by the door and lots of stores around. I recommend it!

  • 4/5 Vicky B. 2 years ago on Google
Rather 3,5 stars. The location is well connected to public transportation and has a nice atmosphere. People in my room were also really resprectful and even though i was sleeping in a room with 10 beds i could sleep quite well. The room was pretty clean and the bed comfortable. The downside was the bathroom: though it was also relatively clean there was no space to put your stuff like surfaces. Just the sinks and showers (that you could lock) but nothing to put your clothes or washing bag. They also have a seperated toilet in the sleeping room that is nice but unfortunately they sink is in the room which makes it an unnecessary source of noice in the night. I also did not receive a key when I was checking in because there were no left so some of the stuff opened me the room. They have also crates under the beds where you can lock your stuff away (you will need your own lock) but it is a bit uncomfortable to use. I really wish they would have used just normal lockers. Overall i had a good experience, don't expect the rooftop to be open. That seems to be a rare thing.

I've been in 50+ countries in every continent . In hotels and hostels from 5 euros per night up to 600-900. This is by far the worst experience. Blood on my bedsheets. Everyone is so impolite. Rooftop closed. Dirty rooms. And mismanagement in every possible way. After some hours I left. It’s a disgrace. I strongly recommend against staying here, and if you do, book one night max and make your own experience. Such horrible hosts, it’s unbelievable!!!

  • 1/5 Annie T. 1 year ago on Google
Location was okay but far from everything other than the train station. Part of the reason we chose this accommodation was because of the rooftop terrace with the beautiful view. We stayed here three nights and it was either closed or reserved each night. No one was allowed up there, not even to take pictures. Extremely disappointed, as I had looked forward to this the entire trip and there was no information as to when the rooftop was reserved or not. I would not recommend this hostel.

Absolutely loved this hostel. My wife and I had a private room with balcony. We were upgraded for free for one night (something they decided to do since they had an error). Great location, great stuff. We stayed in a private double room on the eighth floor so I don't know about the hostel part. But as a hotel for young people is perfect. 😸👍 (I don't think that breakfast is worth it but it's convenient occasionally)

Quite a fancy hostel, big, not too expensive for Central Paris. Room had 4 beds and its own shower, all was clean except the floor. The room could do with some more hooks to hang stuff. Friendly staff. There is a distinct smell of tobacco smoke on the whole ground floor because some semi-open area between the lobby and restaurant is used as smoking area :-( The location of the hostel is great! A little supermarket, a very good pizzeria (Mamayaga), a little bakery and a metro station are all around the corner.

Really good hostel close to Gate du Nord. The rooms are spacious and very clean with shower and toilet. The rooftop terrace is the most amazing Place in summer but is closed in winter. However they do not have a common kitchen, something that is normal in lots of hostels so there is no place to consume your own food (it is even forbidden by the house rules)

  • 3/5 Tabitha 1 year ago on Google
Located close to a metro stop, this hostel was our place to sleep for three nights. It's decorated in a trendy manner and there's a café downstairs that's quite expensive but perfect for groups. The rooms -and especially the toilets- could definitely be cleaner, though. All in all a nice experience.

They are opening a new rooftop tomorrow (8th of April) Check in was smooth. When I returned to the room, my luggage was thrown everywhere. I complained to reception - they couldn't do anything (to be fair, it was late evening). I was woken up by security at 7am to investigate the disturbance - not a pleasant experience. In terms of marketing, it looks nice but it's run like hostels half the price. Look elsewhere

An okay hostel. There's no shared kitchen which is unusual for hostels, you have to buy from the hotel bar and you can't even get a cup of tea or coffee in the morning without paying the flat 8.50 for the full breakfast. The toilets and showers were pretty gross, so many of the floors had no soap at all for the toilets and lots of them had blocked or broken toilets. Lots of the showers were also broken. You're not allowed to eat or drink in the rooms. The bed is not super comfortable but also not terrible. The sheets are clean.

I don’t know why this place is called a hostel and not a hotel! Great location, near the metro entrance and a mini supermarket. sparkles (so it was in our 4-bed room). Good breakfast in a cute cafe on the 1st floor, where you can sing karaoke in the evening. Very noisy youth place! ...He followed us everywhere, and in this place too... This smell of Paris... It's unforgettable. A great place to come with friends to hang out in Paris.

  • 2/5 Emma 11 months ago on Google
We left a night early. We booked because it was the only affordable private room in Paris (and still pretty expensive!). The room was below average - a small double bed (140cm), 1 chair(?) and about 20m2 extra of nothing. The bathroom was big and not very well kept. Having said that, the area is really nice - away from touristy hotspots you get to see the real Paris, where Parisians actually live. Canal St Martin is really nice.

My stay with Generator was mixed, the rooms are very nice, one of the nicer rooms I've stayed in out of dozens of hostels out of the years. However everything in this hostel seems to be broken. 3/4 of the showers were out of order, our whole floor only had only shower for the men to use and one toilet on the opposite side of the hall. In my room specifically, a six person, the beds were nice with comfortable blankets and pillows, but the A/C leaked all over the floor and I was lucky enough to wake up in time to get my stuff away from the increasingly large puddle on our floor. I asked the reception 5 seperate times to fix it and it was not fixed until my third day of staying.

  • 1/5 Caitlin P. 11 months ago on Google
Really friendly and helpful staff! They have a vending machine for necessities like plug adaptors! The hostel is clean, but it feels like it could be even cleaner - no worries about it, it's just natural with such a huge volume of people coming and going. Edit: Well I came back and got a private room, and it is not great. The room is dirty, the hangers are broken (and there aren't enough), the lights barely work, and things are in disrepair. And the doors slam in the adjacent rooms so I am woken up every few minutes all night long. There are teens partying and being loud right outside the rooms. I'm really disappointed because my last stay was better, but that was in the shared female only dorm (4 beds). The staff are absolutely wonderful, but the facilities are not. Not worth what I paid. Update: got absolutely no sleep. The shared bathroom on my floor is closed for "maintenance", the cleaners wake up up at 10am. I want a refund and to go stay literally anywhere else, but they don't issue refunds so. Don't stay here for more than a night. Don't book long stays. Trust me on this.

I really enjoyed my stay in Paris. Location was really good. The metro is just in front of the Hostel. I saw a beautiful sunset at the rooftop. The front desk staff was amazingly friendly, specially Sophie. She took the time to answer all my questions with a big smile. The rooms are very specious and very clean. Cleaning staff was very friendly as well. I really recommend this place while you're in Paris.

We had a great stay at the Generator Hostel! One of the best parts of the hostel were that it had air conditioning within the rooms that could be changed, which was incredible considering the weather outside! The rooms were also very nice and clean when we first got there. The bathroom and shower are two separate rooms and the sink is near the entrance of the room as well so multiple things can be happening at once. The rest of the building is nice as well, and the building has 4 elevators, which makes moving luggage so much easier. There is also a café by the entrance with good food. Overall , this was a great hostel experience and I would highly recommend it!

  • 1/5 Ben H. 9 months ago on Google
Knowing that I paid €50/night for a 10 bed dorm, I would have expected more. Luggage room which required payment for guests by the hour in lockers. Room smelt of cigarette smoke and was unpleasant. No shared common spaces. Overpriced bars and poor atmosphere. No outside food, so they can charge you even more? Shower with black mould in all corners and a broken fan. Empty and broken soap dispensers in both shower and sink. Nothing but a money-making exercise, more focused on monetising your visit than basic hygiene and visitor experience. Take your business elsewhere in Paris - this is not where you want to stay.

There were enough things I didn't enjoy about this hostel that I would've given a three star rating if it weren't for the great people at the front desk, especially Sophie. In everything, she was a pleasure to deal with. However, the room was pretty dirty and there were several food items which had been sitting around since before anyone currently in the room arrived. The common bathrooms on each floor also smelled rank, with most of the stalls being locked for some reason (no one was inside).

The hotel itself is placed in a fine location, but you can definitely tell it is mostly meant as a hostel, even if you book a private room. The staff is incredibly friendly, although not always able to communicate effectively in English. The private rooms do miss some creature comforts which you would expect at that price point. such as a stool / chair to sit on.

We chose it for a five-day business trip. Its location is in a safe area and easy to reach. The rooms are clean. Front office staff is friendly and solution oriented. I would also like to thank Mr. Santiago and Marco. Everything meets expectations, except for the bespectacled bartender at the bar, whose name I don't know but who has problems with himself. Would I choose it again? Yes.

It’s just okay. Staff is really kind and helpful. Rooms are fine, air conditioning is pretty poor and the bathrooms are not very clean. Location is good for getting around and being close to everything without being too touristy, but it isn’t the safest.

lovely hostel, everyone was really friendly. worth the buck only paid €80 for 3nights. i did choose the 10bed mixed gender dorm & still felt save. the bed was comfortable and the lockers were huge, compare to other hostels that i’ve stayed. the location is great too! less thn a 5min walk to the metro. i would recommend this to anyone even solo travellers:)

Love this hostel! Friendly staff, clean, i was in a female dorm of 8 and it was comfy. The location is well connected to everywhere in Paris. Some bars and restaurants around and 2 metro stations are few minutes away.

The location is easy to access and in close proximity to the tourist locations by metro and bus. Sophie and Laila are helpful with advise on how to navigate the locations. Most of the staff are helpful and friendly except for the lady with nose piercing who is always over-zealous and sometimes rude. The rooms are clean and well kept but I wish there'll be more conscious efforts regarding housekeeping.

The staff are really nice and the location is just 2 or 3 minutes walk from Metro. The beds are really comfortable and the bathrooms are clean. It could be a bit hard during summer as you cannot open the windows fully but in Fall, it is not a big problem✌️

A pretty decent hostel and my first time staying at the Generator chain. There is no kitchen or common area however where you can just relax and meet other solo travelers. Game nights and karaoke nights in the bar downstairs is honestly great. The rooms and service could be better however, and I think the blame lies on the management as I believe that they are understaffed. Firstly, there is a long queue for checking-in no matter what time you turn up. They only have two employees at the counter, and many times only of the counters is open. Given the size of the hostel however, I do not understand how this is feasible. Other similar sized hostels I have been to usually have 5-6 counters. Secondly, my beds were not made when I checked in, and this late at night around 10pm. While the staff were super understanding and even offered me some free drinks at the bar, I still had to wait for over an hour for my bed to be ready, which makes me think they did not have enough cleaning staff on hand. Lastly, coming to the rooms itself, everything was fine. The air conditioning could have been a bit stronger as it was summer and quite hot. But, it was also probably the fault of some of the other people in my hostel as they would needlessly open the windows! The room key cards however were a pain and flimsy. I had to change my key card twice as they stopped working. Several other people also faced the same issue as me. Overall, as I was pretty much out of the hostel and exploring Paris at all times, the price and the location near the Metro station was very useful.

I recently had the unfortunate experience of staying at Paris Generator Hostel, and I must say it was nothing short of a disaster. From the moment I arrived, I encountered one problem after another, making my stay a nightmare. Upon checking into my assigned bed, I was shocked to find someone already occupying it. This initial inconvenience should have been a red flag, but little did I know it was just the beginning of a series of unsettling events. I promptly requested a room change, explaining that the individual in my bed seemed to be struggling with mental health issues. Despite my concerns, the staff simply transferred me to another room without addressing the underlying problem. To my dismay, the new room placed me in close quarters with two transient young men. It quickly became apparent that the hostel was lax in screening its guests, as these individuals eventually stole something valuable from my bed. Feeling both violated and unsafe, I approached the management yet again, demanding another room change. However, this time, I was informed that I would be charged for a night in a new room, adding insult to injury. What truly alarmed me about Paris Generator was the apparent acceptance of transient and homeless individuals as guests. This practice not only compromises the safety and security of tourists but also raises serious concerns about the overall atmosphere of the hostel. The lack of proper screening and security measures poses a genuine danger to visitors who choose Paris Generator as their accommodation in the city. I strongly advise any prospective guests to think twice before booking a stay at Paris Generator. The risks associated with the presence of transient individuals and the hostel's apparent disregard for guest safety make it an unsuitable choice for anyone seeking a secure and enjoyable visit to Paris. My experience at this hostel was a regrettable one, and I hope this review serves as a cautionary tale for others considering a stay at Paris Generator.

Such a good vibe in this hostel. Never met nicer staff! They all spoke english very well and when something was wrong, they always helped with a smile. We payed €35 a night so also amazing prices. And they have a machine for everything you might have forgotten like tooth paste or a toothbrush! We will be comming back

Very clean room. Very close to Gare du Nord. My only gripe is that I paid for a private room and still had to pay for luggage storage. 6 euros. If I knew this I may have stayed elsewhere that offered it as I paid a lot for a private room. Staff were really nice. Loved the decor. Oh yes and the rooftop was closed today. I really wanted to see the view that was offered and it wasn’t open.

The location is good, close to two different metros. Bad things: People in the front desk are maybe the worst people I have ever meet in hostels (specially the blond young girl), they gave me a bed, and it was used, I went up and down two-times because they gave another bed that was also used. The shower doesn't drain good and all the water flooded the floor, one of the showers didn't work (in a room of 10 people, full), mattress are old, pillows are not really pillows (like a piece of foam with a small sheet cover. Only cool people in the hostel are the ones in the bar. Also the hostel doesn't offer any kitchen or even if you wanna bring your own food only place to sit and eat is an open place (winter , 3°). I don't recommend this place at all...

The rooms are terrible. Dust lays with a thick layer on the bed frames, under the mattresses there were crumbs, dust and other dirty things. Bloodstains and other stains on the sheets. The fans are full of dust, so there is really no fresh air coming in. The showers are full of hair. Also, the public toilets in the corridors are so dirty, it stinks, and they are definitely not cleaned enough. The shower doors just almost fall apart. I feel like I came out dirtier. The food is terrible, they really didn't put any effort in it. Breakfast is okay. Cocktails consist of 50% water, so definitely not worth your money. Never coming back here.

Hostel is in a good location on a large roundabout close to metro stops, cafes and supermarkets. The staff are friendly, hard working and polite. They speak English very well if your French isn't too great. It was very busy but at night it was quiet enough in our private room to sleep. However the bed was really uncomfortable and the pillow tiny. If they improved on this aspect I would give a better rating. A good value place to stay though.

My stay here left me feeling unsafe and violated. My partner and I shared a private room for 2 weeks as part of a study abroad program. Pros - close to some major train and bus lines. Pharmacy and convenience stores located nearby. Pros end there. Cons - The first room I was given had broken window insulation, constantly letting in cold January air. Told the front desk, who sent a guard upstairs to check it out. He told me it was fine and I had to show him exactly where the rubber insulation lining was peeling away from the window frame. Was told to wait for maintenance, was not given a time frame. Updated my program director, who got us a new room in 5 minutes flat. Moved all our stuff to the new room with a window that shut fully, but still had broken heating. I developed hypothermia as a result of prolonged exposure to the cold, while inside. Absolutely ridiculous stuff. Quite literally, I had to catch hypothermia and tell the staff I was calling myself a doctor for them to finally get maintenance involved. Maintenance fixed the problem in under 10 minutes. The shower in this second room was covered in black mold. The vents and grout were disgusting, to the point I originally thought someone had had a mishap while dyeing their hair. Nope, mold. The staff and managers are very aware of this - I have read reviews on google dating back several years of other customers pointing out the black mold in the showers, and the owner or staff will reply and say that "housekeeping tries their best." It's not housekeeping's job anymore - this hostel needs to hire a specialist. It's disgusting. I will not allow them to direct the blame to their cleaning crew, who are all doing their best. The owner/managers need to accept responsibility for creating a disgusting, unsafe environment. I asked other members of my program the mold status of their bathrooms and at least 2 of the other 9 rooms had the same problem. The locks do nothing. I was alone in the room and had my door locked (they are also keycard protected.) A man knocked on the door three times; I did not respond. He let himself into the room anyways. Cleaning crew will also just let themselves into your room, so pray that you're not butt naked during those times. I felt like I had zero privacy. The food is expensive and disgusting. You cannot bring outside food into your room or the cafe, so if you haven't budgeted to go out to eat every night, then pick somewhere else. Their website proudly states that their staff speak both French and English, but this is only the front desk folks. The maintenance and cleaning crew did not understand anything I said, which would've been fine if I hadn't been dealing with unexpected intrusions and black mold in my shower. I wish I could've better expressed these concerns to them, or had them taken more seriously. Reiterating though - this is the owner's fault. I don't place any blame on the overworked staff who are doing what up above has told them to do. I understand it's a hostel, not a hotel, and that the services offered differ greatly. I don't expect a stay at the Ritz or even a dingy motel, but I do expect to not get so sick I have to see a doctor or hold my breath the whole time I'm showering. Spare yourself and find a party hostel that respects your health.
