Would of loves to order more food, but after asking 3 times for chilli sauce and being waved away like I was a homeless man begging for a meal. We decided not to order any more. Between 7 we only order 5 or 6 dishes but server’s attitude turned me off. I’m sure the food would of be okay but this kind of service left a sour taste in my mouth. Oh and don’t try asking for serviettes. They’ll give you looks

The minced beef pastry puff and beef bao (which is usually pork filling) is so delicious and new compared to what I grew up with! The egg tarts are rich and likely my new favourite in town as well. The cheong fun was smooth and the sauce is flavourful and sweet. The fried prawn dumplings are generously filled and crispy! The xiao long bao and chicken taro pastry was just so-so. The staff are really nice, friendly and attentive as well, we had a great time!

Was decent eats. Decided to go for lobster which was $69 a pound and went with ginger shallots as the sauce. It was pretty tasty with the pippies and Chinese donuts. The Peking duck was average so I've definitely had better at other places. Decent eats and it was $300 for two of us.

We have a family lunch before going back to Singapore. The food are served warm and fresh and the portions are generous. We are satisfied with the food tastes, as it is above average, and the staff services.

I really wanted to love the place but it has to be the slowest yum cha place I've been to. We got 4 things overall in the span of 25 mins and had to cancel our steam bun order as we needed to catch a plane. We paid AUD $58 for 3 people. We got there at 1:20 pm and left at 1:55 pm. The reason we wanted to have yum cha was because the service is was meant to be quick, sadly, our experience just wasn't the best. The variety of food is disappointing. Frankly, not worth it.

Had yum cha here today. Overall, the experience was really good. Service staff were great, and the food was tasty. I especially liked their egg tarts, and BBQ pork pastries. I was hungry and intent on eating, so I forgot to take photos until halfway through. The carts might not have what you want but you can order them.

Absolute worst experience in Melbourne…!! The waiting staff was manner less and kind of racist, just threw the plate on side on the table and walked away, no water was served, food was so oily and over expensive. Overall pathetic experience, least they could do is learn basic manners and how to run a restaurant.

Great atmosphere. Though is small but felt very comfortable dining here. Food was fantastic. One of the chinese restaurant in Chinatown for decades. Unfortunately the cashier upon receiving payment was very impolite. You just lose that star from me. Else was perfect

I went here two times in the span of one week, unfortunately I felt like they didn’t pay attention to me as much.. kinda felt racist but it was both times. It took atleast 15 mins for them to ask what I wanted and then realise no one has actually said anything to me or given me a menu .. they only guided me to the table. Food was average and im sure there is better yum Cha somewhere else! I love yum Cha but feeling like that made me a bit sad :( won’t come back.. expensive too .. also when ordering yum Cha I got stopped ordering because they thought it was too much 🤣 I’m trying to treat myself 🤣🤣🤣🤣 so I just went with 4 dishes! I thought to make this my yum Cha home but I’ll keep searching

The food quality has dropped over the years. Very unfortunate as we’ve been coming to this restaurant since the 90’s…

Been here multiple times. The food is really good and traditional. Duck is amazing, noodles are fantastic, really nice beef and good quality - not the fakeish cheap beef in some restaurants, the seafood is lovely and always fresh. Everytime staff have been so friendly and wonderful. Last time one lady was so rude and horrible, very disappointing. Changed my experience completely. 5 stars for everything if it wasn't for her rude attitude and demeanour.

Food was ok but the staff were some of the rudest I've ever encountered. It's the only place open after 10pm so you don't have much choice. A good meal ruined by bad service and awful staff.

The best in town for sure! West lake been around for 30+ years and the reason behind must have been the consistency and the quality. Happened to speak to the head chef, who was so kind and friendly in sharing his experience as a chef. Being brought up in Malaysia, my taste palate is accustomed to great food and the moment I taste the food from west lake, I know it is something special. A frequent visitor now and will continue to support the best Cantonese style restaurant in Melbourne CBD.

It has been 20+ years since we have been here. Still the best in Melbourne. Loved this joint in the 80s. Was awesome yum char on Sundays. The best gamblin house in Melbourne until Kennit build the "casino".

I think their service attitude is not bad. The price of food is basically the same as that of other yamcha stores. In terms of food, their forked pastry is really delicious. The best I have ever eaten .But their fried squid is really mediocre. It doesn't taste good. It's not recommended to order this dish. Everything else is OK.

Food is still good after 30 years. Fresh seafood, well-made dim sums, good service, and good variety of food. Only a bit expensive.

Hi everyone, As much as it pains me to write a negative review (especially post COVID), West Lake was very disappointing. The floor was very dirty, the apron of the person who took our order was visibly stained/dirty, the table cloth was dirty and covered with a paper tabletop and TBH I hate to think what non-visible back-of-house hygiene status is like. We asked for water as drink which never arrived and had to ask multiple times from multiple people to get a chili sauce to add flavour to some of dishes we ordered which lacked flavour. Last but not least to mention, the food quality was barely ok at best which is surprising as I had seen lots of crowd inside this place during peak hours. We visited at 3 pm on a weekend so slightly after peak service hours.

This place' yum cha used to be good and super busy. Now the quality has sadly gone down. Most of the food we ordered were lacking in flavour. They weren't bland but not that special anymore and for the price we paid, they were expensive.

This restaurant seems to cater mainly to tourists who may not be aware of the many other affordable yum cha options in Melbourne. The food, on the whole, is average. The yum cha menu offers a wide variety of options, while the à la carte menu primarily features large portion dishes. Unfortunately, the duck soup is thickened with cornstarch, which I personally don't find appealing. The truffle duck fried rice, while generously portioned, lacks a pronounced truffle flavor. In terms of service, it is rather mediocre. The senior waitress is quite friendly, but interactions with other staff members are limited. Additionally, the prices are not very budget-friendly. Please note that they charge an additional 50 cents for each takeaway box, a point to keep in mind.

The food was fantastic! Everything tasted so fresh! I wish they were local to us. I feel like the prices are very fair with what you're getting.

Came here for a late night supper a few weeks ago. The stir fried beef noodles was a bit oily for my liking. However the other dishes like the XO Pipis, stir fried Kangkong and congee were on point. Pricing wise, more expensive than some others, but the produce is better quality and larger servings. Not too bad, and is worth another midnight visit! 😋👍🏼

Always always ask for the price before you order from the A La cart menu. Don't make mistake of ordering like we did. Seasonal stir fry vegetable w/ oyster sauce cost like 26 dollars, that's expensive! I didn't even took photo of the vegetable dish as it was not that great. Overall, the food was ok. This restaurant is famous for morning yumcha

This is a Melbourne institution!!! Westlake has been serving up classic Chinese dishes for decades. The owner-chef still works everyday and is always there to make sure the dishes go out good. Every dish we had could not be faulted. Delicious and fresh. Their Signature Chicken was very very good!

Great yum cha place, we did not have a booking so we just put our name on the list and waited for a short wait outside. Yum cha was great, the food was delicious - the trolleys rotated a lot of freshly cooked food. Our meal totalled $220 for 3 people

This place food is delicious but I think the staff is not enough to provide us a good service like help us fill tea or taking a sauce. But got one guy call ah yeng he provide us very good service and also so funny.

Pretty average place for yum cha in terms of variety and quality of food and service. However, it seems to be very popular... perhaps it's one of the few yum cha places left in Chinatown. We visited on a Sunday and were advised to book for the opening time at 10am as later times were booked out but when we got there on time we waiting outside until about 10.15 then seated but no food was available until after 10.30. When we asked wait staff they said it was because we came too early!!

Went for Sunday yum Cha. Food was alright, and while the waiters were polite it took ages to get anything. Had to ask 3 times for vinegar (with more than 10 minute gaps in between) and same for my friends when they requested chilli oil.
