Thought I'd bring my mum to this restaurant for her birthday. When I had made the reservation I requested a booth and noted it was for a birthday. When I got to the restaurant my mum and I were seated on a two seater table crammed up between people on either side.I told the waitress I had requested a booth, however she told me it is only for groups of 3 or more. Why was this not stated on the website or why was I not informed via email or call, I think that says a lot about them.To make it worse the whole time we were there, there were 2 booths that were completely empty and they could not even relocate us to 1 of them. Secondly the wait for food was ridiculous the chips were so salty, we couldn't even finish them and the service was pathetic. After they had given us our food not once did our waitress come to check up or ask if we wanted more refreshments, she had quite an attitude from the get go.We basically were eating a meal with no drink on the side the whole time. Mom did not even receive a complimentary dessert for her birthday. I was honestly so disappointed because social media hyped up this place way more than it deserved to be, just wanted to get the hell out of there what a waste of my money.

Top notch service with excellent food to match. Both sirloin and feather blade steaks were so tender and flavourful! Starters and sides were very well done too. Particularly love their cream corn. Open kitchen with see through glass provide guests with unobstructed view of the dramatic open flame grill pit. Our server was professional and attentive to our needs too. Going back soon.

Service was great. Food was OK. Price was high. Ambience was very good. Overall a good steak house great service and smallish menu. Not a lot of choice. Simple flavours not authentic Spanish. Overall not bad 4 out of five.

This is the second time I come here and it's consistently amazing. The food is well priced and super filling. Great atmosphere paired with great wine, service, and beautifully presented food makes for the most perfect evening. The staff can't do enough - they're fantastic.

Beautifully laid out quality buffet breakfast. Comfortable seating and enough room to place luggage and bags. There is a juicer to make fresh juices (Carrots and Mint today) but I did miss the Celery and Ginger I had yesterday). Omelettes made and the selection of delicious tomatoes and mushrooms, they have bacon made on a fire grill!! Lots of variety and food presentation makes a huge difference. I loved the Hash Brown and Kale they had on offer yesterday too!

Great food- had oysters for starters and main was the tomahawk steak. Meat cooked really well and worth the hour wait. Something to note for people in a rush. Service staff did advise of wait time when we ordered it so it’s really up to you if you want to wait or order something else. Only thing is I wish they don’t slice up the meat and left it to us to cut it up ourselves as the last couple of slices were a little less tender and cold by the time we got to the end. The fat was rendered well and just melts in your mouth. Broccolini which we ordered as a side was perfectly charred and had a great amount of heat with the chili and garlic. Cannot wait to go back for more!

Breakfast here while staying at Intercontinental hotel. Breakfast selection is nice and space is nice. Didn’t try dinner so can’t say how the Spanish cuisine is.

After waiting years for this to reopen, we were not disappointed! Everything on the small but carefully curated menu was crafted with care and first rate produce. Add some unique wines, proper service and helpful suggestions from the head chef, Andrew, and this place is gold! Our new go-to indulgence...

Eating good food energises me. I would never want to deprive myself of good food. This beautiful restaurant offers fantastic Spanish dishes. Great flavours all round. They have a wonderful team of staff giving our dinner a fulfilling dining experience.

Really nice! Very good wine. Really friend staff. There smiles light the dark room up. Really welcoming restaurant, with a class of style. Food and wine was that good forgot to take a photo before I started eating 👌

Food was excellent. Presentation was beautiful. Of all the places I've been never seen a steak dish so beautifully presented. A good selection of drinks were also available. They only accept debit or credit cards and since I don't have a debit card I had to use my credit card which they then charged me the surcharge fee. I wanted to pay cash but they wouldn't accept it. If you're going to restrict your payment methods you shouldn't charge the surcharge. This is a real bugbear of mine at restaurants.

Ambience is great. Staff were amazing. Seating arrangement and lighting is beautiful. We were, however disappointed by the tomahawk, it lacked flavour, was very bland. Not worth the price and hype. We hope to give this place a second chance.

Habitue is french for basically one who frequents a place often. That is exactly what will be happening with my partner and I. It was a great belated Valentine's Day romantic night out. The waiters and waitresses were fantastic with their service and knew all about the food and wine. The cauliflower with almond cream was amazing with a nice aroma and mixture of richness and crispness. The Habitue dip, hoisin pork salad and buttermilk fried chicken with paprika aioli were all sensational. Free tasting of the wines as well and extra free bread. All in all a great Mediterranean/ Europe cuisine with a beautifully chilled out yet classy ambience filled with some light and easy listening jazz. My partner and I will definitely be returning and recommending this exquisite place to many other couples. You could say we will become 'Habitues'.

Rip off. Small portions for the price. Could have had a hearty meal elsewhere for the price. 3x2 inches fish piece for $38 is ridiculous. Never again.

I had dinner here last night, the atmosphere was inviting so I anticipated good things. We had a table of 8 the waiter suggested we do the share menu for $60 per head we decided against it as we were not feeling super hungry instead we ordered one dish each and decided to share amongst one another. I ordered the octopus dish, it was horrible and all 8 of us agreed for $22 you got two measely pieces of octopus and I am talking measley, with some sausage and what looked like canned romatoe soup base the octopus was rubbery and had an underwhelming taste. We also ordered the pear salad, the pear was semi rotten and their we're huge chunks of blue vein, un pleasent to bite into to. The fish dish had a random corn side which didn't compliment the meal what so ever. The mushroom risotto was sub par, nothing special. The only saving Grace was the chicken dish and the hot chips. If your a foodie this is not the place for you, would be nice for a drink or two, listen to some music and go. I don't suggest eating here we left within an hour.

Awesome venue, which really is a converted home. Plenty of seating options inside and outside, friendly attentative service and creative dishes with the cauliflower being the absolut standout. Prices seem a bit elevated, but they do offer discounts (via the fork or entertainment book)

Great flavours and high quality ingredients in what is otherwise a slightly under-whelming menu. Steak was perfectly cooked which over an open fire is an achievement that not everyone can manage, chargrilled broccoli was excellent although slightly too spicy. Wine list is almost exclusively European which was disappointing. Overall very good but a little stiff given the price.

Great service! Ok food! My friend had pork belly was okay but the skin wasn't that crispy as we thought and I had steak was juicy and tender. Overall it's quite disappointed. It looks fancy but taste normal. Nothing special tho. Won't come back again.

Poor dining experience. Arrived just before 19:30, waited over thirty minutes for our entrees (all cold dishes), five of six arrived, and the six came five minutes after everyone else had finished their dish. We would then only get the mains after 21:00. Seafood and brocolli arrived cold. They did respond and replaced the brocolli and took the seafood off the bill. Tomahawk steak was delicious, service staff were very professional about all the issues.

Wow, what a disappointment, especially when you plan a nice evening out. Entrees was not bad, but struggled to see the Spanish influence. Then ordered the seafood grill to share, cold overcooked and overpriced. Skin fries so salty couldn't even finish along with main. We just didn't see the Spanish inspired menu. 😕

Terrible experience. Food just didnt seem to get out from the kitchen and no one in the restaurant seemed to have any food for about an hour. When food eventually arrived it ws at best mediocre. Such a shame as the idea of an asado type grill restaurant is great.

A pleasant experience... Would have been nice. Our booking was for 8:30pm - and we were running late. So I called ahead and let them know, no problem. Our group of 6 arrived around 9pm. And we settled in, knowing that we had a 2hr booking (as confirmed by the confirmation email I received at 11pm that night). We ordered some drinks. At around 9:30 we were ready to order our food, and of course some more drinks. That was when we were told that the bar was closed and no more drink orders were being taken. At no point did the staff think to tell us or warn us to order our last drinks. So the 6 of us were stuck nursing our dribbles of wine and splashes of beer while we waited for our food. $50 they charge for a steak and they couldn't even cook it right. I will give them their dues, they did rectify that situation by replacing the steak properly cooked. It was my fiancés 40th birthday celebrations and I was hoping to treat her to their Gold Bar dessert, but by that stage we had all had enough of the puny service, dry conversation and mediocre food (one guest is certain his prawns had been microwaved!). Overall, most of our complaints could be overlooked - if only they had warned us about the bar closing at 9:30. But in the long run, it's their loss, missing out on numerous wine bottle sales amongst other drinks. And now this review, which I hope serves as a warning to all. Ascua Spanish Grill, whilst not at all Spanish, will grill you when you question not being informed about last drinks - and that's a better grilling than their overpriced steaks get.

1.5 hour wait for one $300 steak and some sides. Steak had clearly been sitting finished for 15+ minutes as it was borderline cold when it got to the table. Sides were fine. Service was almost non-existent. Had a $65 piece of wagyu at Tony Roma’s that blew this $300 tomahawk away. Absolutely rip off.

Amazing food, ambience, and service . The flavours were incredible, and the food was so delicious and well presented. Everything was great but we especially loved the steak tartare and cauliflower. Hats off to the chef, we had a really great experience!

Booked in advance for date night, had a lovely night by the roaring fire. Nice food, good service, cosy ambience (dark or dimly lit) in an old house in a buzzing part of North Freo. For dessert, our waiter recommended the choc tart, and the fresh bread (croissant) and pudding that wasn’t on the menu yet and both were delicious. Waited a while for Jazz band to start and learnt that they start later in the night, so we’ll be back for that in the future.

As always- fantastic atmosphere (like really great, jazz and heaps of space), and great service. Had a steak cooked to perfection with tasty side salad on side, lamb ragu linguine as our other option. Both well executed but lost half a star just needed a little bit more depth to the the dishes. Perhaps some small carb for the steak, or Persian feta or goats cheese for the pasta. Anyway don't be put off it's just my pov.. I can recommend the lamb share dish as amazing and of course I will return. Keep it up Habitue.

Great food, attentive staff and warm atmosphere, including a real log fire. We found the live music good, but slightly overbearing for a busy noisy Saturday night. Also the beer selection, had a choice of one beer, I get they are not a bar, but stocking an IPA, lager, and a lite beer would be better.

Meeeeeeh.....unsure where the 4.5 stars comes from, Habitue is a solid 3 at best. The jazz music and fire place as you walk in are highlights but that’s where the down hill run starts. We had the Chefs banquet, always odd when the waiter says “Chef Banquet? Yeh it’s all right.....usually some sides, a steak thingy and the crumble desert” with as much enthusiasm as suck starting a vacuum cleaner. The Harrissa Pork was bland, but the cauliflower and butter milk chicken saved a menu that looks great but does not deliver over all. Cocktails are $22 each which is basically fraud for the quality. I had an old fashioned and it was literally bourbon and some ice with orange peel. My Wife had the Charlie Chaplin which was a great way of destroying a sloe gin with a litre of lemon juice. The service was the real kicker, it was clear there was confusion on job roles which was likely why our desert was forgotten and three people kept asking us for dinner and drinks orders. Overall it’s a fun night with great atmosphere but definitely not worth the cash.

Mains are -$40, the site cooked lamb ($90) is big and tasty. You usually get it if you go for the set menu but you gotta convince the whole table to go $65 each.

We had booked this place weeks in advance and we were really looking forward but..... the menu advertised on their website wasn't the same as the one we got when we got there. The menu we got was run-of-the-mill and average. The place was so noisy we couldn't even hold a conversation and we were sat by the doors which were open in the middle of winter where we froze. All up, not a great experience!

Went on a cold night and the vibe inside was strong. Fireplace going and live jazz made for good ambience. Service was a little too chilled, plus we had a variety of food/cutlery fall off passing plates as they went by that weren’t picked up. The fish was well cooked, however for $39 felt a little high. Steak was way over seasoned and slightly chewy. I’m a fan of salt but it was way overboard. The brûlée was great.

Great food. Live jazz band. Service was new & patchy

  • 4/5 David F. 3 years ago on Google
Great meal and lively atmosphere. The fried chicken, cauliflower and carrots were excellent but the scotch fillet seemed like it was actually a poor cut of meat rather than a scotch fillet. Some nice wines by the glass to pair with the food. We had the lamb shoulder a previous time and it was divine.

(Translated by Google) Easy to park in this quiet place. Live music (jazz basically) nice for a good dinner. Only Fridays and Saturdays. The dishes they usually put are for sharing. As a suggestion a good salad, squid salad, and octopus with chorizo and gazpacho. The low temperature lamb's back is really amazing, not only because of the amount they put in, but because of how tender and sweet it is. 100% recommended !!! The price, for being in Australia, is correct.
