I
was
looking
forward
to
my
first
time
at
Talula’s
Garden
since
I
had
heard
many
great
things
and
I’d
also
picked
up
delicious
items
from
Talula’s
Daily
right
next
door.
Moreover,
I
was
expecting
a
tasty
meal
&
wonderful
service
since
Talula’s
is
within
the
Starr
portfolio,
but
that
turned
out
to
be
a
misplaced
expectation.
To
start
with,
when
we
arrived
at
the
host
stand
outside,
the
manager
barely
greeted
us
and
told
us
to
wait
for
someone
else
to
check
us
in
for
our
reservation.
The
host
was
friendly
enough,
but
seemed
generally
overwhelmed
and
confused.
Given
that
it
was
brunch,
our
table
was
not
ready
on
time,
which
is
really
no
big
deal,
so
we
waited
down
the
sidewalk
for
our
table
to
become
available.
As
we
were
waiting
for
our
table
we
noticed
a
worker
with
a
big
mop
bucket
heading
to
a
manhole
in
the
street
and
dumping
grey
water
down
it.
We
were
later
informed
that
there
was
a
plumbing
issue
in
the
bathrooms,
so
we
can
only
assume
the
worst
as
to
what
was
actually
being
dumped
into
an
open
city
sewer.
Somewhat
reminiscent
of
dining
in
various
third
world
countries
around
the
world.
Once
we
were
sat
at
our
table,
our
server
was
kind
enough
but
seemed
like
he
wanted
to
be
anywhere
but
Talula’s.
In
fact,
all
of
the
servers
seemed
blasé
and
indifferent.
There
were
multiple
napkins
blowing
around
in
the
restaurant
as
it
was
a
bit
breezy
and
the
only
people
that
attempted
to
clean
the
place
up
were
the
food
runners,
who
were
the
only
friendly
staff
we
experienced.
I’ve
always
considered
Starr
waitstaff
to
be
the
best
examples
of
excellent
service
providers
in
the
industry,
but
that’s
not
the
case
at
Talula’s.
As
for
the
food,
it
was
mostly
a
miss.
The
only
star
was
the
curried
apple
butternut
squash
soup
which
was
really
scrumptious!
The
candied
Bacon
was
almost
inedible
(this
is
what
we
were
most
excited
for)
as
it
was
extremely
dry,
tasted
almost
stale,
and
wasn’t
“candied”
at
all,
just
some
dribbles
of
maple
syrup
on
the
plate.
For
entrees
we
had
the
short
rib
bowl
and
the
"Local
Brunch."
The
short
rib
bowl
was
pretty
well
devoid
of
any
flavor...
I’ll
probably
forget
about
it
in
a
few
days.
The
Local
Brunch
was
satisfactory,
but
no
different
what
you
could
find
at
your
average
diner...
for
quite
a
bit
less
than
$22.
My
boyfriend
ordered
the
bourbon
cocktail
on
the
brunch
menu,
which
he
really
enjoyed.
He
ordered
another
one
from
the
server,
but
it
never
arrived.
Luckily
we
were
not
charged
for
it.
I
enjoyed
the
peppermint
tea
which
was
quite
delicious
as
well.
Towards
the
end
of
our
meal
I
asked
the
waiter
to
point
me
in
the
direction
of
the
ladies
room-
he
told
me
that
plumbing
issues
closed
the
bathroom
so
I
had
to
walk
over
to
Talula’s
Daily.
No
problem,
things
happen,
but
it
did
make
me
wonder
what
was
being
dumped
down
the
sewer
per
my
earlier
comment.
Overall,
we
were
really
bummed
about
the
experience
at
Talula’s
as
it
was
definitely
not
worthy
of
the
Stephen
Starr
brand,
or
the
$100
for
a
brunch
for
two.
We
will
continue
to
visit
the
Starr
restaurants
that
we
have
had
nothing
but
exemplary
experiences
at
such
as
Barclay
Prime
and
Butcher
&
Singer,
but
I
highly
doubt
we
will
visit
Talula's
again
or
recommend
it
to
anyone.
