The most modern museum in whole Bulgaria (speaking as Bulgarian living abroad). Well preserved mosaics, well built interior allowing a very pleasant time for exploration inside the basilica. The price is 12lv per adult and as I remember 5lv per student(or 6) and there was the option for family tickets too (it is for 2 adults and 2 children) which costed us 24lv. Even the WC inside the museum was absolutely well maintained and there was even a sink for the kids (which is basically the only place in Bulgaria I’ve seen a similar thing). The basilica is on 2 floors. On the second floor there was a in interactive corner for kids related thematically to the basilica and the mosaics. On the way out of the museum there is a nice shop as well as a very good playground just outside the Basilica. The staff inside were all polite and professional and it was a pleasure interacting with them (not the case in other Bulgarian museums). If wondering which museum to visit while in Plovdiv- this is the one.

I can not recommend this place enough! The museum is one of the best in Bulgaria in a great location and with very kind staff. The history presented and the atmosphere here is very impressive and everyone must see these amazing mosaics and the heritage left.Thank you!

I loved visiting this place. The tour is narrated with great detail and context. There are various tickets with and without a tour guide. There are QR codes for the audio guided tour which you can stream from your phone. There are VR headsets with reconstructions of the temple and basilica. The children’s corner is greatly entertaining. I would definitely recommend a visit.

Located farther away vs the other attractions, it’s kind of easy to miss. The modern building is an odd juxtaposition vs the old mosaics it preserves. The mosaics are wonderful.

Lovely museum, with very well preserved mosaics and superb layout and information. On the first floor, there are also very entertaining and informative activities for children, teaching them about archeology and history. There is a free locker for your bags at the entrance and a gift shop at the end with an interesting variety of souvenirs. Definitely recommend visiting if you are in Пловдив

The exterior will definitely not attract any visitors easily, but once you get inside prepare for a visual feast, for what is hidden here is a real treasure! This is a fusion of modern and ancient architecture - a good example of how brutal the contemporary designers are - archeology in a tin can. The only "softening" interior element is the wooded spiral ramp to the 2nd floor.

‼️BRIEFLY 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 I am Italian but I have to say I am truly impressed with what they've been able to do. The basilica is completely covered up and everything has AC, I wish something like this existed in Italy. The place presents many pieces of mosaic which is truly impressive. ❗KEEP IN MIND: they have a bundle ticket which allows you to visit other places as well. MAKE SURE they are available to be visited on the day you're there because to us 2 of the locations were closed..

A mesmerizing journey through history awaits at the Bishop's Basilica of Philippopolis Mosaic Museum! The exquisite mosaic artworks offer a glimpse into the past, beautifully preserved and displayed. What truly sets this museum apart is its thoughtful inclusion of spaces for children, both indoors and outdoors. Kids can explore and learn in a fun and interactive environment, making the museum experience enjoyable for the whole family. With its rich historical significance and family-friendly amenities, the Bishop's Basilica of Philippopolis Mosaic Museum earns a well-deserved five-star rating. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Basilica is absolutely amazing. It's so old that it's hard to imagine really. There are so many very well preserved and uncovered ruins. There are very detailed descriptions of the Basilica and each part including all the artifacts found during the excavation. You can pay a few extra Euro to also see the church a little further down the road. It's highly recommended to visit and the cost of entry is truly negligible compared to the cost it must have been to meticulously uncover and preserve these ruins.

Best mosaic museum I've ever been to. Beautiful presentation. One of the top 5 small museums of Europe in my opinion. The material (early Christian mosaics) might not be of interest to some people, but the presentation is absolutely stunning and the information provided very illuminating. If you are into this sort of stuff, you'll be happy. Photos simply cannot do it justice.

Simply marvelous. Modern design meets ancient heritage. Orderly, clean, polite staff on top of it all too. Makes you appreciate history, and the fact we can access it so easily.

I visited the place yesterday and was impressed with what the archeologists, the municipality and all that have helped for this astonishing project to come to life have achieved! The place is magnificent, the beauty of the mosaics is just so impressing... It is unbelievable how people had the strive for the aesthetic so long ago and were capable of achieving it with technology so scarce at the time. I have seldom seen a project to highlight ancient history of the people who lived in Bulgaria so well designed and completed. So, my admiration for the team and good luck to all who are planning to visit the place. I will definitely come once again and will bring friends! Thank you for the wonderful experience!

A place worth seeing even if you are in Plovdiv for a little bit. It tells the history of the city in an original interactive way that keeps you involved. The architecture and organisation of the museum is amazing as well!

It is not a particularly preserved basilica, only the floors were actually preserved. Also in this context you have already seen more impressive mosaic floors. However, it is still a very impressive museum. Its uniqueness is the way in which the findings are presented. Just below the glass floor you walk on are the mosaic floors. The findings are presented using diverse and up-to-date technological means. A beautiful museum. Worth a visit. As a note just saying that the combined ticket also includes the small basilica which in itself is very poor and much less interesting. You don't have to visit

You can see and touch Christian's life in the earliest, biggest temple at the time. Biggest bible can be seen here as well. Kids can get some lessons in archeology in the form of game/interactive models/screens and actual tools!

A must see location for anyone visiting Plovdiv. Plovdiv has so much history and this is the best curated I’ve seen. The museum building is amazing and the whole place is spacious and quiet. The kids section is really interactive. Good facilities including toilets.

Amazing complex. Loads of digital representation of this historical site. Including a Virtual Reality and build your own mociac. The site has been well preserved. Look for the 2000 year old footstep in the cement on the way out!

Amazing in scale, historical and artistic value object, extremely well presented and socialized! Favorable price offers for combined tickets with visits to several or all sites managed by OI "Ancient Plovdiv". A ticket for adults is BGN 12, for students - BGN 6, and combined tickets with other sites are also available. Every first Thursday of the month is free for pensioners.

An incredible blend of preservation, educational history, and artistic beauty! Each placard is interesting and informative, and the curators have taken great care to showcase the most fascinating parts of the project while still preserving the integrity to allow for future work. The children's area has entertaining activities, even for adults! If you see only one thing in Plovdiv, it should be this. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

This underrated museum displays the restored mosaic of an early Christian church, with very informative and interactive descriptions. Make sure that you buy the combo ticket if you want to visit the small basilica down the street.

Great museum with beautiful roman mosaics. Very modern versus other museums and ruins in the city. Took about an hour to go through.

The restoration of the antique mosaic is perfect! It is the first time I saw so large and so full restored area of mosaic. And, what is interesting, there are few layers of mosaic, from different periods. I recommend visit and watch 3D model of the basilica available on site.

The Bishop’s Basilica of Philippopolis, also known as the Great Basilica, is a fascinating site to see. This is already on the UNESCO World Heritage tentative list, the mosaics found here are such a great example of Ancient Roman art. It definitely is a must see. The price for entry is however quite expensive, 12 lev for adults and students 5 lev. There’s also a ridiculous charge of 6 lev for those that want to take pictures with a camera (DSLR, camera camera). It is understandable that the preservation of the relics here is important and but honestly there’s no harm with capturing with a DSLR. Flash might be problematic so I suggest to ban that instead.

Cutting edge technological display at this museum, very alive feeling all around. Recommend every step in this sacred facility. It is not old, it just need refreshing a bit, then it can almost be re-used again!
