A decent museum where especially the section with Roman artefacts is interesting. The paintings are from local artists, although the sculptures are of a top quality. As is free to visit I would certainly recommend this.

A museum in the heart of a city filled with heritage and Roman glory. The building is almost like a maze where you walk around without knowing where you are actually. It takes you on a ride around the artistic, archeological and historical ride into a new world. The paintings and the statute or the ancient tools and coins preserved in a very good manner.

(Translated by Google) Welcome with a smile and advice for the visit. Magnificent works that retrace the city's past as well as exceptional pieces such as that of Camille Claudel (the diodid wounding alone is worth the trip) especially since on Tuesday the museum is free so don't hesitate. A very good museum which deserves to be visited. I liked it a lot, we saw lots of old objects dating back to prehistory. There were paintings. The exhibition "L'architecture à grande vitesse" about the high-speed line was very interesting, I learned some information I did not know. They found many fossils which is impressive compared to the primary purpose of the project. These 5 stars are deserved!

In needed another two hours in here really to olow thru the French info, the English hand out at the reception is limited to key pieces. Apart from that it was brilliant and has some artifacts that other museums do not. It is particularly strong on prehistoric carvings and the medieval heritage of Poitiers including many Roman and early Christian / later Merivongian stone carvings and funerary artifacts. The period art is diverse and includes the earliest and last known pieces from Camille Caudel, plus some Rodin. Paintings by Brunet, Perrault and lots of other stuff worth a look. Don't miss the Dragon; )

(Translated by Google) 2020: Visited on the occasion of the heritage days, there is something for all tastes, exhibition on the Tour de France, the LGV and its sites, seen from the archaeological side, etc ... I came there to discover the small "Hypogeum of the dunes" background that I had just visited. 2019: As part of the cultural event "TRAVERSÉES", it was an opportunity to see or revisit this museum. This place benefited from 12/10/2019 to 19/01/2020 of a cultural event, which invests the city center. At the museum, these are creations of encounters and links forged between the people who have chosen to live. Migration has taken over our social fields, the "TRAVERSÉES" project, through the works of Korean artist Kimsooja and those of guest artists, questions the reasons or causes of these human displacements. Arranged near or inside historical monuments, these contemporary creations invite you to walk in the city to (re) discover a very rich heritage. They enter into a strange reasoning with these buildings sometimes more than thousand years old. At the media library exhibition, the guided tour seems imperative to me, the proximity of medieval documents and contemporary works makes it possible to appreciate the notion of conceptual art through the centuries. Thus, Hildegarde de Bingen, a genius of the 12th century, seemed to have perfectly mastered this notion. A superb museum, to say the least, it lacks spaces for abstract pictorial art. In August, for a rhythmic and vigorous discovery of the museum, it is possible to follow a touring concert by the Habanéra Saxon Academy, perfectly cheerful and instructive. For the temporary exhibition: centenary Auguste Rodin, in 2018, works by Auguste Rodin accompanied the second largest public collection of works by Camille Claudel in France, located here. I was also able to discover or rediscover many paintings in this art and archeology museum which offers visitors remarkably well-lit works, presented in perfectly adapted premises.

(Translated by Google) Beautiful collection, especially the recently entered Claudels and Rodins. Some large paintings deserve to be lit from below rather than from the bottom up, which causes reflections and tends to dazzle visitors.
