St. Walburge's Church

Tourist attraction Catholic church Church

👍 Lovely building with lots of history. Fab staff guided us up the spire and ensured any questions we had were answered. Bit scary at first as the staircase is very steep but worth it for the views. They only open the spire a few times a year but well worth a visit anyway as the church itself is stunn... People often mention church, spire, Preston, worth, beautiful, staircase, visit, welcoming,

Climbed the spire stairs. £10 a ticket and the view is worth every penny. Beware the staircase is narrow and steep as you can rxpect from a 19th century church. Staff were great really friendly and even got given a tour around the church with a history lesson to boot. All the ticket pricing goes towards the church restoration thats needed. Will deffo do it agaon

We did the spire climb. An excellent visit to an awe inspiring church in need of restoration. Greatest by friendly staff and everyone welcoming and the guides are excellent in their historic knowledge of the church. A superb idea in which to try and raise funds to keep this grade 1 listed building going. Concrete (~170ish) steps so not for the fainthearted, spiralling with no rope/handrails. Once you get to the top you can see across Preston, seeing Blackpool tower on a good day. Mulled wine, hot chocolate, tea and croissants afterward free of charge.

Amazing church with some superb architecture on show sadly in a state of disrepair and needs some restoration and maintenance to get it back to what is use to be. They are trying to get funding but this is a long process, the staff and the priest are lovely and always very welcoming.

St. Walburge’s is a magnificent church wherein you will find the most beautiful liturgy celebrated and a vibrant parish filled with young families. I have never seen a parish so well served, there is Eucharistic Adoration, confession, traditional Latin Mass every day and catechesis for all ages every 2 weeks. There is a great school and a lovely hall on site too where the faithful can socialise after Mass too. Preston is very blessed to have this church and the holy priests and sisters of the ICKSP who serve it.

Went on a guided tour of the spire followed by the church. Quite a climb up a narrow spiral stone staircase but rewarded with fantastic views of Preston and surrounds. The guide gave lots of local history in context of the church which was fascinating. Highly recommended.

A beautiful church that is definitely worth visiting and spending time to take in the grandeur of the architecture. I was also fortunate to climb the 172 steps of the spiral staircase and see the amazing views of Preston. Well worth the small price to pay and would definitely recommend anyone to do this.

Wonderful tour by the incredibly knowledgeable parish priest that ended with a trip up a very small spiral staircase to the top of the spire... which is also the name of Father's adorable lab! It's free of charge and a must see if you're interested in Preston's history.

We, Maghull and Lydiate u3a had a wonderful visit, shown around by the priests who are dedicated to their faith. The view from top of the spire was brilliant. Thank you all. Preston, was amazing. Thank you.

St Walburges church is one of the most wonderful churches that I have had the honour to visit on many occasions. The interior from the structure to the heavenly sculptures are breathtaking, so beautiful. I would happily recommend this wonderful church two others as it is a perfect place of peace and to pray.

Beautiful church, very welcoming and fascinating to read about and the history of the church. Really one of the most beautiful places to go and see in Preston. The rose window is absolutely beautiful and quite a pleasant walk from the city centre. The people welcoming at the door were happy to welcome me. The spire was open to book to see the top but I didn’t have time - maybe in the future. Tickets in advance on eventbrite to go up the spire.

A stunning church, the spire of which can be seen from far away. Inside are many beautiful statues, banners, and memorials, and a wonderful set of stained glass throughout, as well as beautifully-carved reredoses behind the altars and a stunning rose window at the East end. This church is in the care of the Institute of Christ the King, Sovereign Priest (ICKSP), and the Traditional Latin Mass is offered here daily, as well as the Daily Office, which is sung daily, offered by the Canons and Sisters there. I attended for the Sacred Triduum - an excellent experience, and one I would recommend to any who would seek a prayerful journey through Holy Week, to its culmination in the joy of Easter!

Went to see kids Carol concert , the kids singing was amazing. Sadly they were let down by a rubbish organist and baltic temperatures.

A great Catholic community and reverent worship. Very welcoming and friendly. Tea and coffee in the hall after mass, plus group meetings and events.

Worth a trip out to, but be prepared to climb the spiral staircase to the 309 foot Spire and belfry. Great views overlooking Preston.

My family has many connections with this church, but it is not easy to ignore this huge building high above Preston. A staggeringly beautiful interior which is well worth a look if you are in the area.

It is a place where God meets man. Adoration, tradition, charisma, sacraments, chants sung with the heart, symbols of faith - prayer and blessing.

I have been attempting to organise a tour of this church for weeks I have telephoned numerous times , left several telephone messages and have been advised on several other occasions that “mailbox is full” I have also written several days ago requesting some reply/ contact Nobody has had the decency to “call me back” or reply to my letter Not a good advert for tourism in the Preston area

Beautiful church with some amazing statues. Unfortunately I didn't have very long here but I could have stayed hours.
