Lokonatha temple is dedicated to lord siva .Lokanath Temple close to jaganatha temple in puri. The temple of Shri Lokanatha is situated at a distance of about 2½ kms to the west of Lord Jagannatha Temple of Puri. The innermost chamber of the main temple preserves a Shiva linga which is the presiding deity of the temple. This linga is visible to the devotees once in every year. The sanctum including the linga is filled with water throughout the year by a natural fountain.

The pandits in this temple are really greedy about money and do not care about the devotees. Behaved very badly with us so It was not a good experience here. Moreover the area near the shivling was not clean and maintained. If you plan to go just for the Darshan, make sure not to ask any of these pandits to accompany you as that's their tactics to charge money in the name of "Dakshina".

🔴Caution🔴 Please read! Before visiting this place! It feels shameful when I say, please don't visit this place. Pandit's are looting here, they had made business of puja, prashad and dakshina. As soon as you enter the main gate, they will ask you to pay ₹ 20 each for bringing prashad/phool/nariyal with you to worship God. And if you aren't bringing anything, they will ask you to pay ₹10, for entering the temple. And when you enter into the temple, they will ask you to pay again to lit the diyas, offering prashad/phool/nariyal. This is not over yet, they will again ask you to pay if you want to offer jal to shivling. Rude behavior from the main pandit. They will not allow you to take photos inside the temple although mobiles are allowed inside the temple. Pandit needs ₹100 form each one who wants to worship holy shivling with jal. We visited in savan, and the mandir is full of dirt and pungent choking smell. If the Pandit had requested, we would have thought of giving dakshina but he is very rude. Not at all accepted form a Pandit. To all the Pandit's - मन से दिया हुआ दान होता है, और मुख से मांगी भीख।।

The temple can be visited easily from Jagannath mandir as private buses ply there. The area is not much developed but deities are centuries old. Some pandas are greedy and also they spit in temple premises. Vinayaka's murthy is very old and beautiful. It has nice pushkarini also.

The temple of Shri Lokanatha is situated at a distance of about 2½ kms to the west of Lord Jagannatha temple of Puri. This temple is one of the most important Shaiva shrines of Odisha. As per local people this temple was established by Lord Ramacandra. From the architectural point of view the temple is not so important but from the religious point of view, it occupies an important position in the cultural history of Odisha. The legend says that Lord Rama on his way to Sri Lanka for searching Sita reached Puri and sat with a vow to see Siva here. At that time there was a village (koown as Sabarapalli in local language) nearby. Sabaras (native of that village) presented him a Lau or Lauka (Pumpkin, one type of vegetable) looking like a Siva Linga, Lord Rama installed that as the replica of Siva Linga at that place and prayed Siva to fulfill his desire. From that day this Siva Linga was called 'Laukanatha'. It is believed that the word Lokanatha is a later innovation from the original word 'Laukanatha'. The innermost chamber of the main temple preserves a Shiva linga which is the presiding deity of the temple. This linga is visible to the devotees once in every year. The sanctum including the linga is filled with water throughout the year by a natural fountain. In the night of Pankoddhar Ekadashi (3 days before the famous Shivaratri festival) all the water is bailed out and the Shiva Linga becomes visible and thousands of devotees enable to worship the Lord. According to a local tradition, people who suffer from incurable diseases come here for prayer. The flowers, sandal paste, milk, Curd (yoghurt), honey, beetle leaves, Coconut water, bilva leaves, etc. offered to the God throughout the year remain decomposed in the water creating a special smell and taste being medicated as a whole. people take it as Prasad, in order to be cured from the disese that they suffered for. The Lokanatha temple has four parts such as Vimana (Main Temple), Jagamohana (Entrance Hall), Natamandapa (Dancing Hall) and Bhogamndapa (Offering Hall). This temple is built in sand stones. The main temple is about 30 feet from the ground level. Most portions of the main temple have been covered with marbles, so the detail architectural features of the main temple are not visible. The outer walls of the main temple housed images of different Deities. The image of Shiva-Parbati is carved on the northern side wall. There is image of Lord Kartikeya on the eastern side wall. The image of four handed Lord Ganesha is carved on the southern side wall. All these side wall images are housed inside small temples. Many small temples are there inside the premises of Lokanatha temple. There is a small temple to the left of the inner courtyard which preserves images of Surya-Narayana and Candra-Narayana. The Satya-Narayan temple within the premises preserves images of Vishnu, Laksmi and several brass idols. On the right side of the entrance to the inner courtyard you will find a figure of Lord Hanuman. The compound of the Lokanatha temple is about 10 feet below the road level. When you enter the lokanatha temple compound by climbing down the stairs from the main road, you will find a big pond (known as Parvati Sagara in local language) at your right side. Devotees wash their hands and feets in this pond before entering into the temple. This pond houses a lot of fishes. Devotees enjoying a lot by offering foods to these fishes. Lord Lokanatha's representative image is in the Sri Jagannatha temple, known as Bhandara Lokanatha. He is the guardian deity of the Ratnabhandara (treasure house) of Sri Jagannatha temple. Lokanatha is associated with Lord Jagannath in several festivals like Sivaratri, Candan Yatra and Sital Sasthi. The festival of Shivaratri is observed in the temple of Lokanatha with great devotion. A meeting of Hari and Hara (Siva and Vishnu) takes place on the day. On the Mahashivaratri lot of devotees arrive near the temple to offer their prayer to Lord Lokanatha with great devotion. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Located 1.5 km from Jagannath Temple, Puri, Loknath Temple is a major tourist attraction of Odisha. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and has been since a long time. The existence of this temple has been made in the old tales on Indian mythology and have often been linked to Lord Ram who had made a stop in Puri and wished to meet Lord Shiva. This temple witnesses a huge crowd of pilgrims who fly from all over the world to have a glimpse of Lord Loknath and a huge number of crowd is visible during Maha Shivratri. The strong belief of getting rid of all the problem one is facing and attaining salvation is what has been the crowd attracting factor of this temple. People who still find aid here believe that Loknath Temple is a place where one can find that true serendipity and peace of mind. The temple has always seen a huge crowd all the year but that has never stopped a single pilgrim from getting a glimpse of the lingam. ARCHITECTURE Having a look of old paintings, Loknath Temple is an excellent example of simple yet brilliant architecture. The premises of the temple is divided into four main parts- Vimana, Nata Mandapa, Bhoga Mandapa, and Jagmohana. Amongst these, Vimana is considered the main temple and is above 30 feet off the ground. It  has images of God Shiva, Ganesha, Kartikeya and Goddess Shakti. The images of Lord Shiva and Goddess Shakti are placed on the northern side of the wall whereas Lord Ganesha’s image is found on southern wall and Lord Kartikeya’s image on the northern wall. The majority of the temple is made up of marble with no such architectural carvings to be seen. LEGEND The Loknath Temple is a place filled with legends but the prominent one is of the time when Lord Rama, while travelling to Sri Lanka, made a stop in Puri and vowed to meet Lord Shiva there. According to the legend, there was a village nearby called Sabrapalli, who, upon hearing the wish of Lord rama, offered him a pumpkin (Lau or Lauka) which was in a shape of a Lingam. On receiving this, Lord rama established that pumpkin here and worshipped it with his true faith and hence the name Lauknath which was later called as Loknath. BEST TIME TO VISIT All the year pilgrims keep pouring in, but to witness the ultimate religious side of Puri, try visiting the temple around July-September, i.e., Monsoon in India. Also try to visit during the grand celebrations during Pankhodar Ekadashi. This  is observed three days before Maha Shivratri when the Lingam comes out of water. The devotees believe that the other days of the year, Ganga keeps the lingam below water because of this reason only. Thanks 😊😊😊

It's a very ancient temple. Everybody should go there after The Jagannath Darshan. But Be careful. The priests are fully touter and Lootera. They kept place very nasty. That place was stinking instead of Sandal and Natural Camphor fragrance. It's very pathetic as I am a Odia Brahmin. 2 Stars only for Mahadev.

Divine place for Lord Shiva devotees according to Ancient History. Mobile phones are not allowed inside. Be alert to follow the white mark for walking inside the temple as the steps are mostly slippery. Just have darshan and return beware of the pandits who will follow you for seeking money

Dedicated to Lord Shiva and the lingam has been established by Lord Rama (popular belief) is another place one should not miss when in Puri. It quite close, about 2-3 kms from Main Jagannath temple, but one needs to hire a auto or take a scooter on rent for the day and visit other places in Puri. The Shivalinga here is not visible as its always under water. Spend some time sitting here. Its very peaceful. Note : The Panda (pandits) can be irritating many a times. But ignore them. Advisable to keep money change of Rs 50/100 to give to them and continue with your meditation or prayers.

Please ask rate for the prasad that offers you outside the temple. They will tell you come back after that we will discuss. They are charging 500 to 700 for 5 bananas and one coconut. Inside the temple pandits will ask you for minimum 1100 rs for puja. One more thing i noticed that whatever you will take inside the mandir like coconut or any fruits they will charge you registration fees in the name of temple.

Less known but in the heart of Puri town. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Bulls roaming freely all around the temple premises. But maintained cleanliness. Vehicle parking charges are exorbitant@Rs. 40/-. Maybe it is needed for the temple administration for the upkeep of the surroundings. Careful of the Langurs around.

At a distance of 2 km from Sri Jagannath Temple and 4.5 km from Puri Junction, Lokanath Temple is an ancient temple located in the town of Puri. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, it is one of the most important Shiva shrines of Odisha and also one of the popular places to visit in Puri. The presiding deity of this 11th century temple is Lord Lokanath in the form of lingam. According to history, the lingam in this temple was established by Lord Rama. While Lord Rama on his way to Sri Lanka for searching Sita reached Puri and sat with a vow to see Shiva here. At that time, there was a village named Sabarapalli nearby presented him a Lau or Lauka (Pumpkin) looking like a Shiva linga. Lord Rama installed that as a replica of Siva linga at that place and prayed Shiva to fulfill his desire. Thus the temple is called Laukanatha and later named as Lokanath Temple. The unique feature of the temple is the Shiva linga is always submerged with water which substantiates the legend that Goddess Ganga flows through the top of the Shiva linga as a stream. It can only be seen on Pankodhar Ekadasi, before Shivaratri, when the water is removed from the lingam. On that day, thousands of devotees come for darshan. It is widely believed that the linga has powers to cure the common people from all types of problems related to health. The Lokanath temple has four parts and they are Vimana, Jagamohana, Natamandapa and Bhogamandapa. Built with sand stones, the main temple is about 30 feet from the ground level. The outer walls of the main temple housed images of different deities. There is a small temple to the left of the inner courtyard which preserves images of Surya-Narayana and Candra-Narayana. The Satya-Narayan temple within the premises preserves images of Vishnu, Lakshmi and several brass idols. Saranti Somavar Fair is the main festival which is celebrated with great pomp and fervor. The utsava murti of Lokanath is kept inside the Jagannath Temple, Puri. He is the guardian deity of all the treasures and jewellery of Lord Jagannath. Very badly maintained place and absolutely disgusting staff. No god lives in rubbish and dirty place and this place has strong stench of rotting milk.. this needs immediate attention by authorities. The road to the temple is also bad. Lots of beggars and panda are also worst than beggars. It’s a shame to say that this is claimed as oldest temple in Puri, but in reality it is the stinkiest and dirtiest temple I have ever visited.
