According to historical data, this grotto was named after the goddess of the moon and hunting, Diana, who preferred to relax in the shady grottoes on hot days after swimming. The great Russian poet M. Yu. Lermontov loved to have picnics in this grotto and relax with friends. A week before the fatal duel, the poet organized a thematic ball in front of the grotto, which became the last in Lermontov’s life.

It’s definitely worth taking the time to walk just a couple of steps from the central alley of the park to reach it.
