Authentic french restaurant. We got the daily special which comes with the soup , the entree and the dessert along with a house wine or beer We got the bison entree which was spectacular to go with the fresh creamy onion soup . We tasted the apple wine for the first time and loved it and the maple syrup pie is to die for. The food seems to be a little pricey but the experience of tasting some authentic food along with the energetic servers simply serves the purpose. And they speak perfect english to help tourists like us. Located in the street of old Quebec, highly recommended!!

It was an interesting restaurant, and we popped in to be taken to quaint styled interiors. Staff are friendly and attentive. Food arrived on time and delicious. Escargot was nice but a bit overcooked for me. The open meat pie was nicely done and balanced. My partner's Bison pie was interesting. The poutine was nice and the wine was decent. The pudding, Maple syrup pie tasted great, and so was my partner's Apple pie. We chose the set menu, and it was fairly priced. Overall, the experience was good apart from a little indigestion I experienced after.

This is an awesome place! We’ve been here twice (pictured is our second time), and we love it. It’s such a unique place with a lot of history, and the food is excellent! The set meal is great value, and we’re always so full by the end. We got to try so many dishes and get a peek at French-Canadian cuisine. Strongly recommend! :)

Value for money!!! Spending around CAD50 then you could have a set of French meal including a glass of house wine. Many choices for customers. The appetizer I chose-Wild Meat Cretons was full of meat, pork if I didn’t remember wrongly. I liked the taste but couldn’t have too much; then the accompanying sauce and the side dish(I guessed it was something like pickles) did a nice touch—lightened the grease. About the main dish, it was interesting! The puff pastry wrapped with salmon so it was crispy outside and soft inside. Nice together and seasoning. The sauerkraut also made the whole dish not too greasy. As for the dessert, I was not a fan of it since it was too sweet🤣 Anyway, I really enjoyed my food and the atmosphere here.

Yum! We found this place online because it’s a traditional Canadian food and it did not disappoint. Their pre-fix dinner special allows for wine or beer, soup or an appetizer, a main entree and dessert. We ordered the soup of the day (potato and leek soup) and the baked beans as an appetizer, the elk, bison and deer tenderloins and the beef Wellington as entrees, and chocolate pie and the poor man’s pudding for dessert. We also asked the waiter for bread with butter. He was very thorough in explaining all the dishes when he served them and was very attentive.

A must-visit in the center of Quebec City. My party stayed in the city for 2 days, during which we dined at several traditional and First Nation restaurants. This one pleasantly surprised us. Initially, we were unsure about it because the restaurant is often advertised in hotels, which can be a negative sign. However: The staff was genuinely friendly and efficient. We opted for the lunch menu, priced at 40 Canadian dollars, which included an appetizer, main course, dessert, and a glass of wine. We chose to pay a bit more for the meats that are not easily found elsewhere, such as bison, elk, and deer. I wholeheartedly recommend it! These uncommon meats exceeded the quality we experienced at another, more expensive restaurant we visited the previous night. The puff pastry that accompanied the bison was crispy but not dry, complementing the meat perfectly. The sides served with the bison, elk, and deer dish allowed us to pair each meat with vegetables that complemented them well. And the traditional, remarkably simple and warm maple syrup pie was the perfect finishing touch! The staff was always eager to answer our questions, and once they learned that we needed to rush to the train station, they promptly brought the bill, always with a smile. Last but not least, experiencing the ambiance of the oldest restaurant in Quebec City was a remarkable part of our visit. Out of my week-long stay in Canada, this was the first and only place where I was happy to leave a (generous) tip. P.S. - food is larger and more filling than portrayed in the photos attached.

Fabulous! What a lovely and historic place to dine! I enjoyed my meat trio- I had them cook it medium rare and it was cooked to perfection! My potato au gratin was the best I've ever had and exactly what I want when I think of it- very classic flavor. The ambiance was beautiful and the service was excellent. I can't say enough good things. We all ordered the option that provided us each with an appetizer, entrée and dessert. The Québec meat pie was also delicious.

We had the best time at this rustic and charming spot. Our server on our first visit, Naika, was exceptional. She was attentive and so lovely letting us try our French. The food was delicious and the portion sizes were large. The maple syrup pie was so good we returned for another piece on our last night in QC after eating dinner at a different spot! Gabriel, our server, was fun and made sure the pieces were big! We will return!

We had the best time last time there, our waitress was fantastic, the food was delicious, the beer was great! I had the wild meat cretons as my appetizer which was some of the best cretons I've had, for my meal I had the Lac St. Jean meat pie which was pretty good as well (though next time I'll try something else), and the tarte au sucre for dessert which was the best, and I actually didn't get much of a sugar rush afterwards which is a good thing.

Nice environment, great food with decent prices. Blueberry pie, bread pudding and Québec meat pie are must try! Exceptional service - I accidentally left my clutch there but the restaurant was so nice, they kept it and helped mail it to me. Really appreciated. Highly recommend!

This place is unexpectedly good! I didn’t pay much attention and assume this is one of those touristy restaurant. Turned out to be a great night with the onion soup, escargots, seafood platter and lovely dessert!!! Overall, it’s a nice dinner we had.

The historic Maison Jacquet was one of the largest houses in upper-town back in it’s day, and is currently the oldest standing houses in Quebec as it was built in 1675. We ate here last night and it felt like eating in a museum rich in history. Bruno (cook) and Alex( server) took good care of us. The meal was incredible, huge portions, nicely presented and flavourful. My wife who is from the Czech Republic said the meal reminded her of being back home. We went with the full meal deal appetizer (poutine, French onion soup) main (meat pie, pork knuckle, meat balls) , dessert (crème brûlée, maple pie (same baker has been making the same maple pie for the past 40 years) , and drink ( local boreal Quebec beer, and wine)! Wow it was so filling, but oh so good, and Very good value for the price you pay! Before dessert we toured the house, I was amazed by the artifacts throughout the house. Bathroom is located upstairs, but there is a railing. Sidewalks were completely slippery due to freezing rain, If you can manage to get in to this place, it’s definitely worth opening up the door for a delicious meal.

This place is amazing, and during lunchtime reasonably priced. Classy, delicious, great service - even spoke English (which is not always the case in Quebec) ... what more could one ask for ? At lunch the menu currently is CA$40+tax (only about US$32 before tip, which is expected there), and includes a glass of wine, beer or soft drink (the red wine is great), an appetizer, entree and dessert, with many choices for all (some cost a little extra). There are a few GF and vegetarian choices marked as well. We picked as appetizers the Quebec meat pie and soup of the day (Broccoli). As entrees Salmon in puff pastry with Lobster sauce and goat cheese and beats salad. As desserts we choose chocolate and caramel pie and Maple Brulee. They were all amazing. Kids meals cost about $25 and my daughter loved hers. Overall, amazing and reasonably priced. Dinner would be almost double...

It was the best meal we had in Quebec City. We ordered soup of the day, grandma’s treat and blueberry pie. We love everything! The soup is simply delicious! A perfect balance of the vegetables flavors. Just the kind of soup I like to drink. We had it with bread. Then it was the main course grandma’s treat with include meat pie, potatoes and meatballs, baked beans, veggies. Everything was so delicious, no crazy flavors just plain good ingredients cooked to perfection! I don’t know how simple looking food with simple tastes can be this delicious! The blueberry pie is also perfect, same as the meat pie which has the perfectly thin soft flaky pie crust! Every bite was perfection. Atmosphere was great! It was quiet, friendly and made me feel comfortable. The history feel of the little house was really nice inside and outside. Love the paintings. Nothing too crazy just like their food everything was done just right! The service was the best too! Love it so much would love to come back next time in Quebec City!

Such an authentic little place. Friendly staff and the ambience was very quaint. Settler style. The $39.95 lunch is great value. Leek and Potato soup. Had the Grandma's Treat - meat pie, meatballs and baked beans.and Maple syrup upside down pudding as dessert. Perfect fare for a cold day walking around old Quebec. Thank you for a wonderful experience 🙏🏼

The service in this restaurant is beyond amazing, from the host to the two different waiters we had, everyone was so kind and nice! The food was also good and it was quite a big portion! I loved that I got the chance to try many different Canadian dishes at once!

This is a tiny quaint establishment and you will need a reservation. Because I am not much of a gamey eater....I played it safe and ordered stuffed turkey. It reminded me of an old T.V. dinner and was on the cold side. I took my bread pudding to go so I hope that comes through. Service was great.

Oh, as a Ukrainian-American I think you must visit this overhyped "tourist trap" they call a restaurant! I mean, who would want excellent service and atmosphere, with background music that doesn't attack your ears? And those wood carvings? Far too tasteful. The food is downright reasonable, focusing on flavor rather than drowning in seasoning. I was absolutely delighted to taste the actual vegetables instead of a seasoning mine. And the meat? Good! What a letdown to have a satisfying meal! And don't even get me started on the desserts! Authentic and simple, just like grandma used to make – how dreadfully delightful. It's almost as if they care about quality ingredients and traditional recipes. So, if you're looking for overcomplicated and artificial sweet treats, you might want to look elsewhere. This place has the audacity to serve delicious, genuine dishes and desserts that remind you of home.

Wonderful experience. Delightful service. Great food. We were there as part of a package deal so we chose from a limited menu, but that was better for us because absolutely everything looked so good. Historic building with marvelous wood carving art. The food was amazing and Nicholas was helpful, attentive, knowledgeable, friendly. It's a must see... Bon appetit!

Delicious and authentic! One of the best meals we had in Quebec City! Would recommend to everyone who’s visiting the area. The set menu may seem pricey at first but the quality and variety of food is worth it. Do get the Escargot for $7 more if you can! Absolutely delicious~ So was the bison meat fondue! So yummy! The house wine was meh but what can you expect with wine that comes included in a meal like this? The meat tart is super delicious and so were the side dishes! We’ll definitely visit again if we’re ever in the area!

Sweet little restaurant which is located in the oldest house in Quebec City. Fast service with limited but traditional dishes. Worth going for the experience but we felt the staff are too jaded with the fame of the place and do not take care of customers. Avoid the set menu which comes with (in my opinion) terrible wine and service to go with it. Best to go for one of the dishes from the main menu and choose wine from the list.

We had a fantastic experience at Aux Anciens Canadiens for our first night in Québec City! The food was delicious, and Samuel our waiter was wonderful - very friendly, polite, and checked in on us regularly. His recommendations are the best! The service was well timed over the three courses, so we didn't have to wait long at all between dishes. We felt very relaxed and cosy in the restaurant. I would recommend this restaurant to friends for sure and I'll be dreaming about the Bison bourguignon with creamy blueberry wine sauce until my next visit. We did the 3 course meal with wine or beer.

Great value for their $39.99 menu. It can be even lower to $29.99 if you have dinner in the afternoon (before 5pm). But you have to pay attention to the options covered by that price and do the upgrade when needed. For example, escargot needs $8 additional, but it is worth. I also regretted that I should also upgrade the main dish.

Had two meals at this place during my trip to Quebec City. Located in a quaint building, atmosphere is great. Also waiter and waitress were very friendly and energetic. Price for the lunch special is a fairly good deal. My favourites were the onion soup, beef Wellington and maple syrup pie. The meat pie I tried another day was also good. Maple brûlée was good too but a little bit too sweet for me (most likely because I don’t really have a sweet tooth). Also the food comes in great portion so I’d suggest go there with an empty stomach :)

Great food and friendly service. The baked beans were delicious. "Grandma's Treat" (tourtierre with fruit ketchup + meatballs with ragout) was amazing. The maple sugar pie was a bit too sweet but still good. Prices for the lunch special are very reasonable — 30$ for an appetizer, main, and dessert plus their house wine, beer, or a soft drink.

The place exceeded our expectations. Very charming ambiance and service was excellent. Food was top quality and delicious! Highly recommend the meat pie, maple bread pudding, and the onion soup. I got the menu of the day, which was excellent value for money and the selections were great. Highly recommend this place!

If you’re looking for upscale, bistro cuisine, this is not it. This is true to roots, down home, classic Quebec country cooking and that’s exactly why we came here. Everything on the plate tasted like something from your grandmothers kitchen and the quality and freshness of the food is apparent. I had the grandma special and my spouse had the pig knuckle poutine which, was the best poutine we’ve had ever in the province. I loved the homemade Quebec ketchup served with the tortiere. There is a set menu which is a really good value and as with any set menu, there are extra charges for certain menu items which is perfectly normal for French restaurants and other restaurants we’ve visited while travelling here and abroad. The decor of this place was warm and cozy and the service was spectacular. It felt like going back to a home you’ve been away from for a long time. Definitely give this place a go when you’re in Quebec City!

Great food and value for money. We tried the lunch and found it way more value for money than the other restaurants we had tried on the St. Louis and around streets. Even the ambience is very soothing and the staff explained the 3 course meal options well. We ended up having lunch there 2 of the 4 days we stayed at Quebec city. Super recommend it. MAPLE PIE is a musssst have, it was just fantastic!!

Such a quaint little place! Loved the wait staff in their period costumes, the simple decor and oh!.. the food. We ordered the Grandma’s Treat with the tourtiere (perfectly crispy crust) and meatball ragoût (superb flavor). This was one of our favourite places to eat while visiting Old Quebec.

  • 5/5 Michael L. 2 years ago on Google
Fantastic restaurant for French Canadian cuisine. Everything we ordered was good. The beef wellington and their meat pies are delicious and full of flavour. The maple bread pudding is one of the best I've ever had. Absolutely a must try when in Quebec. Their price fix menu offers great value.

5 person Tuesday 7pm They found a table for us without reservation. But I suggest to do it! We took 3 different special (65ca$) menus and kid menu + 1 appetizer + 1 tea+ 1l of wine + 1beer+1 bottle of water on top. = 400ca$ 2 Escargot were perfect! Pea soup was good, Broccoli purée soup was good for kid but a bit watery for me, Seafood plate (+19ca$) was good, Duck confit with veg was tender, Salmon was good too, Shrimps with scallops were great, Meatball was good but side potatoes was tender but ordinary, Cream brûlée is great, Ice cream with maple syrup was great, Brand pudding was good and very sweet, Chocolate pie was too sweet but good, Green tee (+$) was excellent. It was great experience of Quebec cuisine! Servants speak English!!! Thanks!

A must try when in Quebec City! Dining in a house with such a history (supposedly one of the oldest houses in Quebec) is such a fun thought. More importantly, the food was wonderful- if you're looking for truly authentic, homestyle Quebecois / French cuisine, this is the place! Yes, pricing is expensive, especially for the Prix Fix menu which we opted for, but its good value especially if you plan to get appetizers, desserts and a drink anyways.

I have eaten here on multiple occasions and have always enjoyed myself. For the most part, the food is great and reflects culinary attributes of the quebecoise culture. I started with the poutine thinking that I had to be in the best place to get one, but I was quite disappointed (fries were nothing special, the gravy was pretty tasty, very few curds, nothing was hot and melted). I strongly do not recommend. After, I had the bison and LOVED it. The flavors and textures were both excellent. I also had the maple syrup pie and found it quite tasty. Service was great. Very friendly. Thank you!

This restaurant was referred to us by someone and it was a good tip. The historical building and charm were great. The food was excellent and so was the service. It’s a great way to try some traditional and not so traditional Quebec food. We loved the prefix menu, and the fact that you could upgrade a course for a few more dollars. My friend and I both started with the onion soup, which was excellent, not over salted as some can be. For an entrée she got the baked salmon and I got the bison bourguignon. The bison was tender and served on a puff pastry in a blueberry cream sauce that had only a hint of blueberries in it, so it wasn’t as sweet as you might think. I thought it was superb. My friend enjoyed her salmon very much, and both dishes came with a nice selection of fresh veggies. For dessert, we got the maple bread pudding, and this was our only disappointment. It was tasty, but it was supposed to come warm, and it wasn’t. The maple butter sauce on top was on the cool side. The result was the bread pudding was very dense and unappetizing and a little heat would’ve softened it. I couldn’t even finish mine, I was so disappointed in it.

This is a Quebec City classic! I came for the meat pie, which was great, but the pie crusted salmon with lobster sauce was AMAZING! Completely unexpected. And for dessert, the Maple Syrup Pie is an explosion of flavor that you shouldn't go another day without trying.

  • 4/5 Cindy C. 11 months ago on Google
Loved the history and the old charm of this restaurant - built in the 1600 wow!! The menu is price fixed, you can choose things to eat, plus upgrades on most of the expensive meats. You get a starter, a main and a dessert, plus a wine or beer. I got the meat trio which is what I saw online before I arrived. It was elk, bison and deer. I thought it was a hit overcooked but the sauce and potato gratin was tasty. The winner and what my family came for was the maple syrup tart, it was very rich and sweet but so unique and delicious. Cool vibes, it was like we were dining in the olden days. Do make reservations, as the restaurant fills up quickly!

This is a great restaurant right near Hotel Frontenac. This a historical building with lots of antiques and charm. It provides a perfect palette of Quebec food. They provide an option for 3 starter, entree and dessert. The maple pie is the best dessert, it takes like a butter tart. The server was also Very knowledgeable in the food culture and they were very accommodating with us having a baby stroller.

  • 5/5 Jiusi L. 2 years ago on Google
Loved the experience. Food was pretty good and our waiter was attentive too. This is also a pretty charming historic house to visit, one of the oldest buildings in Quebec. Reservations are strongly recommended during busy times.

Cozy atmosphere with good friendly service. If you want traditional French Canadian cuisine, this is a good option. Poutine is good (many varieties) but the curd could have been melted a bit better. Tenderloin was good, onion soup tasty, but Beef Wellington was just “OK”. Prices are reasonable.

Delicious, hearty food, friendly service in a modest historical setting. I recommend going for lunch because the food is very filling, you're going to want to walk it off! The bison bourguignon and grilled goat cheese salad were highlights. The maple syrup pie is a must try!

Lovely, affordable, and vegan-friendly. They let us share the courses (cutting the bill in half). One of us had the starter and the dessert while the other of us had the main course. It was plenty of food for two.
