I recently had the misfortune of visiting L'Entrecôte Saint Jean, and it was an experience that I would rather forget. Not only was the food underwhelming, but the service was the most terrible I have ever encountered. Let's begin with the service. From the moment I walked in, it was clear that the staff had no interest in providing a pleasant dining experience. They were rude, dismissive, and seemed more focused on chatting amongst themselves than attending to the needs of the customers. It was evident that our presence was an inconvenience to them, and any requests we made were met with disdain and a complete lack of urgency. To make matters worse, the wait time for our food was excruciatingly long. It felt as though we were forgotten in the chaos of the restaurant, left to sit and wonder when our order would finally arrive. Even simple requests for water or bread were met with indifference, as if we were asking for the impossible. The level of neglect and disregard for customer satisfaction was truly appalling. Now, let's discuss the food itself. As mentioned earlier, the steak was shockingly thin, resembling a sad piece of cardboard more than a succulent cut of meat. The lack of flavor and tenderness was evident with each disappointing bite. It was clear that quality was sacrificed for quantity, as the steak was nowhere near the standard one would expect from a steakhouse. The portion size of the accompanying salad was laughably small, barely enough to be considered a side dish. It was evident that cost-cutting measures were taken at the expense of customer satisfaction. Adding insult to injury, the overall ambiance of the restaurant was lackluster. The dim lighting and dated decor did little to create a pleasant dining atmosphere. It felt more like a forgotten relic from a bygone era than a contemporary establishment. In conclusion, I cannot express enough how much I do not recommend L'Entrecôte Saint Jean. The terrible service, combined with the disappointing food, left me feeling frustrated and disheartened. Save yourself the anguish and seek out a different dining option that values its customers and provides a truly enjoyable experience.

A very nice, rustic, classy and home-y ambiance inside. Food was wonderful. The steak and the ribs were the complete star! The steak had a nice crust outside (sauce was impeccable) and the ribs slid off the bones so easily - it just melts in your mouth! Profiteroles were just okay but overall a lovely dining experience. It was also really nice of our waiter to give us a 2nd basket of bread after we devoured the first one. Would definitely go back!

We ordered the duck leg and steak. Both of them were normal not special! I really like the fries. But the perfect part was the employees (waiters) at there. They had a huge smile and we felt so comfortable. I should mention that both employees and the place were super clean and tidy.and they served the dinner on time. Their prices were moderate too. I hope to go back one day to taste their desserts as well. If find this review helpful, please hit the button!

We went on a busy Saturday! Downtown was packed because of the great weather ! One of the other popular restaurants said no to us because by the time it would be up in the waitlist their restaurant would be ready to close so we walked a bit and found this place! they found a table for us quickly and after telling the manager that it was my wife's birthday he clearly got the idea and surprised her with a Delicious dessert after serving a tasty and colourful lunch! The idea of serving daily menus was great for us! The main room is beautiful! The total bill for 5 was very decent! My kids loved it! Thank you! This place is approved by a Colombian Family

It was the second time I visited and it was an amazing experience. The food was incredible and even the salad which you’ll think it’s so simple, but it was delicious. The steak and fries was perfect with the sauce that we even order more sauce. Chocolate with ice cream dessert was perfect to end the meal. Additionally, all servers where friendly and welcoming. Will recommend to anyone wanting a entrecot experience, felt like was in Paris for a moment! ✨✨✨

Good steak, excellent peppery sauce! Accommodated veggies instead of fries. Fries were very good too. All in all nice evening experience . Profiterols not great.

Enjoyed the food and service. Quite friendly! Lovely atmosphere. Mostly locals eating here. We are not locals but were never neglected. The bread was yummy. I got a 5oz steak, perfect for lunch. Lunch specials include a $7 glass of wine - from the menu!

The food is certainly very good but the service is subpar. My husband and I are Asian so I don't know if that had anything to do with the poor service. Kudos to Minh Giang Hoang for leaving a substantial tip for poor service so it would not reflect badly on the Asian community.

Good food! The service was good and they spaced us out well due to Covid so tables weren't too close to each other

Great experience overall, the table d’hôte midi was worth it! The entree of soup was flavourful. The steak was quite tough but delicious with the sauce, frites were crispy and well to our liking! Dessert was memorable. The service was attentive, accommodating! The only downside was the wait as it was busy.

We ate here twice and both times had a wonderful experience. The second time we walked in without a reservation. The host said they were completely booked but as we were turning to leave he stopped us and offered a table. Even though it was very busy both times the waiters were attentive and took our orders quickly. We got food and drinks quickly. The zucchini soup was delicious. I really enjoyed the duck leg and my husband said he liked the duck poutine.

Great atmosphere, though this place gets packed fast. Be sure to book a reservation or else you'll have to wait like 45min for a table. The food is decent.

!!!!Terrible!I don't recommend this restaurant!!!! The steak was burnt, the sauce for it was ordinary and as a side dish they serve just a pile of french fries, as in ordinary eateries. "Gourmet platter" was terrible, terrine had no taste at all, croutons - just crackers that can not be chewed, liver mousse was disgusting, from everything on the plate you could only eat grapes and a fresh apple. Aperol spritz - it is impossible to drink, we visited 26 countries and the most disgusting aperol is in this restaurant. The food is not worth the money they want for it. The staff was friendly until we decided not to leave a tip. The waiter immediately became rude and carried some kind of heresy that he should pay the kitchen from his own pocket. We didn't leave him a tip and he started discussing us with other waiters and throwing papers at us. If you don't want to spoil your mood and pay a lot of money for tasteless food, please don't visit this restaurant!!!

7oz steak Table d’hote $43, you can choose fries, salad or cooked vegetables. I had $42 duck confit (2 pieces) Table d’hote. It’s not on the menu (I just had to ask). Fresh salad. Attentive service. It’s a bit noisy in the restaurant, but good atmosphere. 15%-18% and 22% tipping option on credit card machine.

The duck confit is good. The steak was only OK as it wasn’t the best cut and didn’t have the best flavor.

We were walking down the street and saw this cute place. After walking through the city some more, we decided to come back and go to dinner there. At arrival, the host gave us the option to hang our coats, which was a nice touch. We were seated immediately and were given bread and butter to start. The waiter, who was friendly, gave us a quick overview of the menu and specials. We decided on the steak dinner which included soup of the day, salad, steak, dessert, and tea/coffee. The appetizers came quickly but the steak took longer. The food was delicious although the steak was a bit dry. The dessert was amazing. Would come back here again.

Ambiance, service and food was good. We are steak lovers and we wanted the bigger steak but the only available was the 7ounces. Sauce was good but do not expect the same as the ones in Europe. You can ask for extra sauce too. We ordered the Table D’Hôte for two and a half liter of Cótes de Bordeaux wine. Soup, salad and dessert included, mostly average. One thing I disliked was that our dog was not allowed even though they had a big outdoor seating area. We saw a dog inside that’s why we asked but they just said NO. It’s disappointing because the restaurants around them allowed dogs for outdoor dining. We didn’t push it and we almost didn’t eat there but it was my birthday and I really did book it for that reason.

Very cozy environment and welcoming staff offering quality service. Food was disappointing in many aspects, salad lacked any representation and was mainly lettuce. Steak was very chewy and flavourless even though we got medium rare. Fries werent fresh and had no salt on it. Only good part was the soup.

Went to this restaurant back in August 2022 for our family vacation. Anticipated a delicious steak dinner because of the 4.5 stars given to the restaurant on Google review BUT we received the most flavorless, dry steak ever with soggy fries. We also did not receive any free bread while all the other tables did (Racist much?) EVERYTHING WAS ALSO SO EXPENSIVE!?!? The total was $170 BEFORE tips. Will we come back again? No. But I don't want to yuck your yum. So if you like your steaks extra well done and unseasoned, this is your spot 👍

The staffs are friendly and quick on their services. I hope they could've ask customers on steak preference prior to preparing it. ☺️ Highly recommended!

Nice place with an old vibe very compatible with the spirit of Québec! I ordered Salmon, very tasty and at the right cook. My wife had ribs, soft and melting away from the bones. My son had the 7 ounces entrecot with fries, very good according to him. Profiteroles and creme brûlée as desert, magnificent choices. The only thing I didn’t like was the tiny flavor of coffee in the creme brûlée, it didn’t seem right… I guess it was a matter of comparison as the profiteroles were so amazingly good that overshadowed the creme… price was fair as well.

The L'Entrecôte Saint - Jean specialty is very good. I ordered it medium well and the flavor is awesome. The environment, the attention is very unique. I recommend this place if you're visiting Quebec City. A++

Coming here with super high expectation since everyone said the one in Montreal is sooooo good. Arrived there 2 staff not friendly at all , can’t even say a bonjour. I was longtime in a restaurant business , therefore places that don’t train their employee well really makes me upset. When client receive their steak, you should ask right if it’s cooked the way the client likes it. I cut my steak ate it and it was terrible. The texture is super bad. Their spritz is not drinkable. Salad way too much dressing. In all , very upset. The waiter end up changing shift, never told us he was leaving. So another lady came to help us pay she was very nice.

Best duck poutine I had in Canada. We sat outside and received excellent service. Good wine, good food and great for people watching. Highly recommend.

The food and service both were absolutely amazing!! From the broccoli cheddar soup of the day which was cooked well and a delight to whet the appetite to the backed ribs which were flavorful and tender, everything was delicious. The duck leg confit was also cooked beautifully with the natural flavor of the duck really emphasized alongside the complementary sides. My only critique would be the Creme brûlée: the sugar top was a bit too thick for my liking. Other than that, this restaurant was definitely my friends’ and my favorite restaurant we went to in Quebec. Top of my recommendation list.

Great place in the heart of Old Port Quebec that has good food at fair prices. I thought I'd try something new, so I ordered the duck confit and it was awesome! Duck has its own unique flavour, which is a nice change from chicken. The meat was falling off the bone and there was no need for a knife. Now, since I've never had duck confit before, I don't know how authentic it is but I enjoyed it. I enjoyed it so much that I don't think they needed to wash my plate afterwards. If I'm ever in Quebec again I'll be visiting this place for the duck.

AMAZING! A must go to restarting when travelling in Old Quebec! We had their specialty, steak and frites with their secret sauce. And it does not disappoint! We look forward to coming back one more time before our trip is over!

We are visiting from Toronto, and tonight was our last night in beautiful Quebec city. We've tried different restaurants and they were all great. Tonight our dining experience was at a different level. We booked at L'entrecote Saint Jean. The French nostalgie songs were playing as we walked in. The friendly staff, the ambience so warm, and welcoming. Food arrived, our steaks cooked to perfection. The service was just great. Our host was amazing! It was the 'creme de la creme' of all the places we went to. I will revisit next time I'm in Quebec City. By far the best We've had!

Unforgettable steak, food and ambience was great and our waiter who was one of the best servers that we have met during our stay in quebec city. If you are into steaks this place should not be missed along with there special sauce.

Ordered the soup of the day (cream of caramelized onion) and the 7oz steak. Soup was quite amazing, the sweetness of the caramelized onion and the creaminess of the soup was heavenly. 8/10 Steak probably spent too long under the broiler. It’s dried out when it shouldn’t be, slightly crumbly, and charred bitter in places. The fineness is a perfect medium-rare just like I asked for though. If the sauce used alcohol, mine probably needed a bit more time cooking off because the taste of booze was strong. 5/10 Service was very nice. 10/10

I came here for dinner recently. The restaurant had a cozy atmosphere and service was nice. I had a glass of Le Petits Cailloux from Quebec, and the Evening Table D’Hote, which included Soup of the Day, Green Salad with Walnuts, Entrecote Saint-Jean (Steak) and matchstick French Fries cooked in peanut oil, Profiteroles with Chocolate, and Coffee/Tea. The wine was fruity (acidic with a tint of sweetness) and not too dry. The mushroom soup of the day was rich in mushroom flavour, had quite a bit of mushroom in there, slightly too salty and was overall comforting. The salad was fresh with tasty walnuts and the sauce compliments the vegetables as the vegetables were a bit tasteless. The steak was a decent cut cooked to medium rare with a nice BBQ crust on the outside, didn’t have a strong flavour, but it was okay as the buttery sauce made up for that. The chocolate profiteroles and tea were very good and were a nice finish for the meal.

All i say about the quality of the food, 10/10, the steak was wonderfully prepared with the accompanying sauce and our starter salad was one of the best salads I have ever eaten. The cozy and quaint surroundings also make for a great part of dinner in Quebec. However, we were completely ignored by the waiters. I noticed many times the waiter asked about the situation of the surrounding tables and refilled their cups every time they were empty. But they absolutely did not ask or refill water for my table. I finished my meal and had to drink more water from my boyfriend's cup. We tipped quite a bit for the bill that day because we wanted Asians who visited the restaurant in the future to not be treated as coldly as we were. Overall, the food is great but with the lack of professionalism in the service, I don't think I will return to this place.
