beware if you are not french speaking, I am but my wife is not. certain staff will not serve you even if you try to make an effort to speak French .... which she did. it was really disappointing. some of the staff were really dismissive and cold. I grew up in the neighbourhood and I use to hold JA Moisan in such high esteem , it is sad to see customer service being so deplorable....as a French sparking person it was shocking to hear the interaction. I would not recommend the store anymore... I will give it another try in a few months to see if the situation has improved...but so far it is in a sad state of affair

Ah! So very cool here! What a nice grocery/snack store this is! My friend took me here when I was visiting so he can show me. It’s apparently the oldest in the city. It’s kind of small and narrow but it has excellent products and the wine section in the very back is amazing! Just be aware that you can’t buy a beer and crack it open when if you decide to have a bite to eat there at one of their tables. They’re not licensed. I nearly did it 😂 I recommend paying a visit here. 👍😎

Coming back after a two-year absence (COVID!) we were surprised to find that half of the store had been separated and converted to a clothing retailer. Sadly this venerable location can no longer be called a grocery store and is now more of a deli. Dine-in is still an option for their prepared food. Economics can't be ignored, I suppose, but we used to shop here on every trip to Quebec and probably won't shop here again. A real loss.

Living in Montreal for many years, I have not found any grocery shop compared to here. You can get all of grocery needs with premium quality especially fantastic cheese options and all food spices. Definitely the prices are slightly higher but worth it if quality matters for you.

Fantastic selection of both local and imported meats, cheeses, desserts, and beer and wines. Not cheap, but good quality. Nice location near the bustling restaurant scene. Truly lives up to its heritage as the oldest grocer in North America.

Super old gourmet grocery - I wanted to buy everything! Great place to find original souvenirs that showcase the local specialties. Deli too - go hungry!

It is amazing the way the keep it so real to the old times. Every time you get inside it feels as if you have travel in time. All the products they sell match together to each other. Whatever they sell the packaging is amazing. Is a great place for graphic designers or illustrators who wants to make a research in situ of many different vintage typos and logos. Highly recommend.

Not the kind of grocery you can go to and buy tomato catsup. More of a specialty food store for the discerning gourmet. They have had a long time to curate the selection into something special. Go here for hard to find flavors and delicacies.

Nice selection of cheese's, meats, pates and wine and all the condiments you could wish for. More importantly the service is excellent. If your planning a picnic go here for your supplies.

Great option for a quick lunch, soup was delicious and the croissant sandwich was simply amazing!

A foodies' dream. There are foods in here that I'd never heard of before and for anyone who likes cooking and experimenting with food, the ideas for unusual but authentic foods are great. 4 stars due to it being expensive and I found another store that was bigger and cheaper with more options, but in the centre of a city, it was unusual to find one like this. To be fair to them also, even the overpriced things in there for local food was still cheaper than the tourist targeting shops.

Lovely, old grocery store within walking distance of Old QC. Once discovered we returned again and again. This is a great place to pick up something unique to take home as a gift for friends, too and avoid the touristy prices. We were self catering , so we really enjoyed the prepared foods, especially liked the Chicken Thai dish.

The store has existed since 1871 and maintains an ancient and prestigious atmosphere. The supply in the store includes wines, dips, cakes, canned goods, sausages and cheeses. I tried the milfay cake and it was good but the leaves were too hard.

As this looked like the old store my family used to own in Niagara on the Lake, we went inside for some good cheese, wine and tea and to look around.. Looks lovely. Spent $50 on goodies. When we got back to our apartment we tried everything. The most flavourless cheese. So expensive for everything. Very disappointed.

I was so disappointed to revisit this store only to find half of it missing, the best part of it. Now it's kinda just a deli and the product selection much smaller. It no longer will be a destination spot I go to when it visit Quebec. If it was financially driven I feel sorry for the owners as it was an amazing shopping experience before. Thank God I took good pictures of the missing side in a past visit.

The staff very nice and friendly. By accident I found this well know place. J.A. Moisan is a delicatessen place. I met a manager who explain me the history of this fine place. Excelent café latté, pastries and also ready to go meals. You can find some local brands as Vallé Verte.

Nice, old décor and atmosphere. Beers, wines, pastries, packaged foods. Fun to browse. Café seating at the front. Not a good place for vegans.

👍 We were there for lunch and there was no lineup. We ordered the croissant sandwiches and coffee, both are freshly made. Highly recommend. Staff are very helpful to suggest food from the menu.
