Booked to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. The hotel and grounds are lovely and in easy reach of the city. Our room was spacious but the bathroom was not up to standard at all. It was in dire need of a deep clean and had not been maintained, with mouldy grout, damaged bath surround and grease on the door. Sadly the restaurant and breakfast is not set up for anyone with allergies. There is no reference on the menus as to what the food contains. I asked for gluten free toast 3 times and never received it, which was the same at dinner time when waiting for gluten free bread. Members of staff were nice, but it appeared they were under staffed as things were getting missed or severely delayed. The spa team were lovely, but again the spa facilities were in dire need of some attention. Overall it was not the standard I expected to find given the price tag attached and I wouldn't recommend or return. Food, drinks and spa treatments were overpriced considering the quality provided and the venue. Given it was the first time we'd been away, just us, since getting married we were disappointed to say the least.

Such potential, but such poor delivery. Don't get me wrong, the staff are - at an individual level - lovely. However, the hotel is WOEFULLY understaffed. With a receptionist and a catering manager waiting on tables, this was so clear. The room was great, and the grounds of the hotel are lovely, but that's where the fun ends. Waiting 20 minutes before being served, having to flag down a "waiter" and then being brought (average) food before drinks being served wasn't ideal. Neither was having to hunt down staff to get an order taken. Apply that principle to breakfast as well - we had to book a slot up front which wasn't ideal but not a huge issue. What WAS an issue was arriving to an absolute shambles - dirty crockery on all the tables, no plates at the buffet, and no cutlery on the table. Luckily we got this reservation complimentary (ironic that another MacDonald Hotel cancelled our booking for no ciable reason), but there is no way I'd be paying the 5* prices for a 2* (max) experience. I feel for the staff; they are under so much pressure and the management has clearly given up on this place. The fire alarm being set off repeatedly because the staff are probably falling sleep on their jobs just added to the experience. 0.5 stars each go to the hotel grounds and the spa; they were the only good things about this place. That's probably generous.

A beautiful hotel, stunning room and view from the bedroom window, and had a lovely facial at the spa however a very limited choice of saunas/steam-rooms. Also extremely slow service at the hotel, we ordered a cocktail and Diet Coke. A waitress came over and told us that they couldn’t find the ingredients for it and That no one to make it? We waited a good 25 minutes for it and also had the calamari which was nice but a little stringy. I then ordered another Diet Coke whilst still waiting for the cocktail. The cocktail arrived but no sign of the Diet Coke which we reminded the waitress for as we had an appointment in the spa. We waited a further 10 minutes but no one arrived until we finally caught the attention of the waitress again, she asked if I had received my Diet Coke I responded with no and she was very apologetic but didn’t really seem to have much of an idea of what she was supposed to be doing. In the end we just asked for the bill and left as we didn’t have time to be waiting around. Definitely avoid the drawing room as you will be waiting forever to be served. We went back into there later on in the evening after coming back from a lovely meal in bath. The same thing happened again very slow service and very quiet and dull atmosphere.(we only ordered a drink too how hard is it to make one?) The rooms are also not very sound proof as we could hear everything from the people next door which kept us awake. The service at breakfast was a lot faster than our previous experience however the egg was slightly bland, tomato not cooked well and the watermelon tasted slightly off. It’s a shame as the hotel and grounds itself are stunning but I definitely would’ve give this place nearly a 5 star review and don’t think we will be coming here again.

We had such a great time here. Got the morning revival spa package on the 10th of December and was amazing. Outside therapy pool was great, the massage was one of the best I've had. The service from everyone was incredible so thank you. Finally the food topped off with a glass of wine made for a fantastic Friday in Bath. Thank you all.

My friend and I stayed at the hotel for one night for a spa getaway. What we liked: +the location - the hotel is located a short walking distance from the centre while being away from the busy streets. it feels very calm and quiet, and the grounds are beautiful. + the room was comfortable and tastefully decorated. Yes, it does require some renovation, but it looked nice. + though the spa facilities are definitely in need of renovation, I enjoyed relaxing in the saunas and the swimming pools. + I liked the fact that I could park the car before check-in and keep it there some time after the check-out. - for some reason, the alarm in our room went off twice during the night and woke us up, we still don’t know why.

It's not often we treat ourselves to a 5 star hotel, but we have stayed in many before at the expense of our parents. I was really quite disappointed in the touches that make a 5 star hotel, 5 star. The carpet in the bedroom was littered with dirty marks. We ordered room service and the young chap had to come back twice as things weren't right with the order. We had tea on the terrace and had to ask twice more for things that were requested at the time of the initial request. We didn't get our tea/coffee replenished satisfactorily and had to request extra. The pencil left for use had a broken lead in it, so of no use. We left it out hoping that it would be replaced but it wasn't so we had to request that too. The ironing board cover wasn't fitted to the board properly. I appreciate that it's very hard to please everyone, but some things surely come as standard at a 5 star hotel. The staff were wonderful, very pleasant with excellent communication skills (just right, not too much and not too little), the location of the hotel is wonderful. The gardens, although wonderful needed a little attention with bushes overhanding paths. I did think that the room lacked a storage as the bedside drawers were quite small and the shelves that were in the room were full of hotel paraphernalia. Other than that, we loved it, we loved the view, we loved the space and we loved the luxuries that we did experience. Many thanks.

The location is great. Bed size and comfort are good. Long spa hours are appreciated. The staff is extremely helpful, nice, and friendly. Breakfast is decent and good enough. The hotel was probably wonderful once upon a time. The restaurants and reception area are still good-looking. But the rooms, bathrooms and spa areas are very old. It might be clean, but it is not shiny clean as it is old. Room cleaning is okay but the bathroom needed proper cleaning, it is below the average. The room shower drain was almost blocked. All of these are acceptable. However, spa area cleaning staff should have been trained. He was cleaning the spa area with the (outwear, dirty) shoes on. He was sweeping (with the squeegee) the dirty water INTO the thermal pool. We would like to become a regular if they will improve and refurbish facilities and cleaning at the spa area.

A beautiful hotel in Bath, perfect for our mini moon. The breakfast was beautifully cooked. The spa was on the small side but perfect. The outdoor pool during the winter made you feel like you could be anywhere in the world. The massage and mini facial package was out of this world and truly made the world of difference to my back. I felt like a new person. Overall a great location to Bath and the wider tourist locations. Elemis toiletries in the bathroom added a lovely touch to our experience.

Beautiful hotel in a great location, a short walk from Bath city centre and just over the road from the canal for excellent walks. The facilities here are excellent. We used both the gym which is well equipped as well as the spa which has everything you could wish for. The outdoor thermo pool is amazing. The rooms are very luxurious and the beds are very comfortable, excellent duvets and pillows. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our daughter is currently at Bath spa university so we visit Bath regularly. This was our first stay at the hotel and it’s definitely the best we’ve stayed in after numerous visits. We’ll definitely be returning. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

5 star hotel should be faultless, and this sadly was not, the location is fantastic. Staff were good, however reception was very understaffed. One person is not enough for a hotel this size. The rooms are dated but nice enough, however, cracked sinks (506 and public restroom) and leaking dripping shower, noisy plumbing. Made for a poor and sleepless stay. Food was nice but over priced.

We visited for the day to use the spa and leisure facilities, so no hotel stay. Spa is lovely with a good range of facilities. It could do with a little maintenance but nothing that affected our day! My partner and I each had a massage and were both very happy with the service. The gym is rather small and doesn’t have the best range of equipment but still a decent amount to make a good workout!

Beautiful hotel located not far from Bath city centre (15 min walk) with wonderful decorations and friendly, helpful staff. The spa was really enjoyable, especially the outside heated spa pool. The room was faultless and very decadent with a 4 poster bed to our surprise. Gorgeous marble bathroom. The only thing that let it down a bit was the food we had in the evening in the lounge - a bit over priced (typically from a hotel) with small portions and the breakfast quite pricey for what it was. The fried breakfast we ordered was a let down as we expected something a lot better coming from a fancy hotel like this. We've had tastier, more enjoyable breakfasts for a lot cheaper in less fancy places. The bacon should really have been grilled not fried in grease. The continental was fine with quite a bit of choice and lovely sourdough bread etc. Think they just need to up their game when it comes to the hot breakfast bit as we felt it was not value for money. The staff were really nice though.

We stayed for the Christmas Package ..Room very comfortable..Hotel was lovely and Warm and so was the Hotel Pool vast improvement in that area ..from previous stays .I am sure they will get round to revamping the bathrooms . Our welcome by Peter at reception and through our stay was exemplary ..The restaurant Manager had a task on Christmas Eve a technical hitch which caused significant delays at serving everyone's meal..unfortunately not a good start ..but the rest of the stay was very good ..extra touches footprints of Santa 🤶 hanging on our door a Xmas stocking very sweet touch. The general Manager was a very switched on to the situation and made sure everything run smoothly after Christmas eve .. Thanks again for a relaxing stay.

Have stayed twice here. Once about 5 years ago and now again and, sadly, standards have slipped a lot in this time. Put simply, the hotel needs managing better. The spa and pool area is dated and is open to the public for membership, meaning the pool was absolutely heaving (avoid Wednesdays in particular as the gym members are allowed to bring a child for free on Wednesdays). The other spa facilities were lovely but in need of some renovation and, again, very very busy. After reading reviews of the food I'll admit to not eating dinner here but the breakfast experience was bordering on comical. A fifteen minute wait to sit down (even after you are told you must choose a specific time to arrive for breakfast), only a cheap buffet style breakfast (the kind you get on a three star all-inclusive holiday) and anything you ask for won't arrive (we didn't get tea and coffee the first morning). Various guests getting up to get things like butter, salt, sugar, etc, that you would expect on every table, laughing between each other about how bad the service was (waiters were polite but undertrained and there seemed to be no real management of what was going on in the dining room). The front of house is run very well and the hotel is very clean (except the outside spa area). My lower review is based on the fact that it is meant to be a five star hotel (and certainly charges as one) but this was not a five star experience in any way. A real shame as it has clearly gone downhill a lot since my last visit. I'll be choosing a different hotel in our next visit to Bath.

Overall a great experience. Breakfast delicious with plenty of options, spa facilities not too crowded and kept clean, nice views and lovely gardens. Short walk to city center. A couple of minor aspects - minibar in the room was empty, the fixed shower head had no hot water, but for one night it didn't matter as much.

Just had a 2 night break here and really enjoyed ourselves! The gym was good. Pool, thermal pool and sauna etc were fab! We both enjoyed treatments in the spa and staff in the spa were very friendly and nice and we were happy with our treatments. The issue was with the service at reception and the waiting team and there didn't seem to be effective communication between staff members. As others have said, staff were nice (on the whole) when engaged with, but we got charged for things we hadn't had upon checkout and had significant waits at breakfast and for afternoon tea. Food was served before drinks and you'd be getting your drink after finishing eating. The person who showed us to our room referenced there being a bottle of champagne as part of our package. When we looked it was Prosecco, no issue with that just don't say it is champagne! Overall, it was a nice stay but for the amount of money spent on the break would hope for more attentive service and more comprehensive communication to allow for a more smooth guest experience.

Some great aspects to the place . Spacious clean rooms although looking a tad tired and marks around the room. Pleasant staff. Great pool / jacuzzi. Main criticism is the breakfast room. Self service options of hot food were shriveled up and barely warm. This was over a two day period so not just the day the power went off! Dirty plates piled up on tables and not cleared while we were there. Choice of food was below average. Premier Inn do a far superior breakfast!

Second time at this property. It felt a little dated this time, the room could certainly use a coat of paint, etc. The spa was excellent, facilities great and treatments fantastic. The food is average at best - room service dinner very underwhelming (a burger and chips for £35!) and breakfast was a very average buffet. All and all a lovely hotel and very relaxing but could use a few improvements in terms of service, food and attention to detail.

Really loved the sauna and jacuzzi at this hotel. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. Dinner tasted great but breakfast was not as up to standard. Only fault would be that our room was extremely crammed and not very spacious.

Great experience all round at this accommodation. Great food, great service, friendly and professional staff. Highly recommend Bath spa Hotel. Cannot fault anything from our stay and will definitely be back when we are in Bath again. Thanks team and keep being great (:

Overall a good hotel with an excellent location. The inside of the hotel was clean alongside being kept and maintained well. Our room albeit small was well decorated and clean with a sense of opulence. The bath products were good and the bottled water was a plus. The bed was extremely comfortable with great bedding. The spa unfortunately was not up to 5 star standards. Tiles were missing, paint was flaking and it felt a little grubby. The changing rooms however were great with spacious showers and good products. This did not make the spa unenjoyable but the flaws were noticeable. The breakfast was fine with a broad selection though clearly not 5 star standard. The hot food was not cooked to order and was presented in a warm buffet. There are corporate hotels in Bath that I have stayed in which do a better cooked to order breakfast for far less money. Worth a stay if you can get a deal however I wouldn’t be happy with a full price ask.

Honestly the best hotel I’ve stayed in. I booked a single room for myself. It was such an amazing experience. They have breakfast buffets and the lady in charge is the nicest person ever!! They have their own spa which was okay not the best but the sauna and pool was great. Nothing beats staying in that heated pool. Can’t wait to go back to this place. It is a short walk from all the nice places in bath so the perfect place for your vacation

Fantastic staff, very helpful and accommodating. Gorgeous hotel in a great location 15 minutes walk from the centre of Bath. The hotel is fantastic. Beautiful grounds, and a grand old building. Yes there are few areas that are rough around the edges, but I've found that in a lot of hotels of late, and especially as they have not been back on their feet that long after the pandemic!! But nothing that took away from our experience!! The room we were initially given was next to the main entrance to the spa so very overlooked, with a door that slams. I asked the staff of there was a chance of moving and they did not hesitate and moved us. We were there overnight for my girlfriend's birthday, they even left a card and a small box of chocolates!! Bianca on reception and Joshua the head concierge were exceptional, friendly and helpful!! The spa does need a bit of attention in places and a couple of features (steam room and salt room) were not working to their full ability, which was annoying. The spa staff didn't inform us of this, bit I overheard regulars saying that it's due some refurbishment soon. But 2 saunas, an indoor pool and a heated outdoor hydrotherapy pool were brilliant!! Apart from that it was a fantastic hotel with character, and attentive polite staff! Will be staying there again!

Excellent location and lovely old building that has been modernised sensitively. Delightful view from our room over gardens and city beyond. Reception staff very helpful and courteous Spa facilities very pleasant and restful Breakfast was the only disappointment in terms of both service and quality of food. Fatty bacon, unpleasant sausages, tomato omitted and toast cold. Staff didn't seem motivated and lacked urgency

Situated in beautiful grounds this is the perfect place to visit to unwind and relax. Excellent spa facilities. Staff very professional and attentive. Deluxe room with garden view was as advertised, very comfortable and clean - Housekeeping superb. Restaurant service was excellent although a little more choice on the evening menu wouldn't go amiss although what was on offer was delicious. Really enjoyed my stay and plan to revisit next year.

Staff are amazing. Consistently helpful and friendly, so my thanks to them for making it a lovely stay. The restaurant does really excellent food, and was very good at accommodating food allergies. Spa was lovely but the Rock sauna wasn't working and then the heating in the outdoor pool seemed to go off do that was a bit disappointing. Overall, highly recommended, but be sure to ask specifically for a view as some rooms do not have them.

Beautiful hotel in a stunning location. I'd highly recommend the afternoon tea (gluten free available). The room we stayed in was lovely and we found all staff to be very friendly and helpful. The spa is lovely too. Thank you for a great stay.

Beautiful hotel in stunning surroundings. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive. My husband and I had booked a few days at the hotel to celebrate my 50th birthday and the staff without any knowledge of this other than the housekeeping seeing my cards arranged a lovely surprise and placed some gorgeous miniature cakes with a happy birthday message written in chocolate on the plate for when we returned after a day out in Bath. Such a lovely gesture❤️ Everything about our stay was perfect and will be remembered with very fond memories. Love Sarah and Neal xx

Staff very helpful, it was our Ruby wedding anniversary and they made our 3 night stay just what we wanted it to be. Accommodation was superb and breakfast fantastic. We ate in the hotel on the last night and although pricey it was well worth it. Thanks to all for making our stay memorable.

Lovely hotel. Really great staff. Breakfast some times slow. Rooms nice and clean well appointed and good size. Location good, 15 mins walk to town. Taxis very frequent and quiet well priced if walking is not your thing. Great spa and pools. Definitely will return

We mainly enjoyed our stay in the Macdonald Bath Spa Hotel. We loved the beauty of the building, the inner decor, the room and the garden. The atmosphere in the hotel is really nice and cozy, staff is very helpful and friendly. However, we were a bit disappointed with breakfast. The coffee in the restaurant, if you don't order cappuccino or so, was very diluted and tasted awful. We tried 2 different cooked breakfasts and they were not good, very dry. Everything else, not cooked like croissants, cheese, ham were really nice. For this reason we didn't risk to order any other food in the Hotel. As a customer I would highly recommend to the Hotel management to pay attention to the cooked breakfasts quality. Also, the salt steam room in the Spa area didn't seem to work as it should.

Warm welcome and very comfortable stay. Excellent service at every level from all staff. Spa facilities were a welcome relaxing treat. Thought the bathroom needed some tlc in terms of grouting and mastic needing attention and would benefit from a modern refurbishment in general. That said, excellent location and would happily stay again.

We really enjoyed our spontaneous night away. The hotel is very well presented, it’s easy to park and check-in felt really relaxed and easy. The rooms are spacious and perfectly clean. The pool and spa facilities were rather wonderful and this was definitely a highlight for our stay. Especially the warm outdoor lit-up pool in the evening. Breakfast was delicious, quick and a complimentary prosecco definitely went down a treat! We hope to return in the future and have since recommended to friends and family.

Excellent Spa. The hotel is an ideal position outside of bath town centre. The hotel itself quite opulent. Bathrooms a little tired but rooms very comfortable. Prices for food are quite high so dinner in town is advisable. Breakfast in the hotel was average considering the cost and they don’t seem to cater for gluten/alternative milks. The vegan breakfast was distinctly lack lustre with items missing. The meat breakfast was ok but never been a fan of white space on a plate. Either more food or smaller plates! All in all a great experience in the spa but eat elsewhere as the food will be better and cheaper.

We had one night stay to go to the Christmas market. This was the first time I had been to the hotel. I found the hotel and the surroundings very beautiful. When we arrived we were upgraded to a suite. Wow the room was fabulous!! We had a bottle of prosecco on arrival which went down lovely after a long drive. We stayed for dinner and the food was amazing. Staff were very attentive and the service was fantastic. This hotel is truly beautiful and with the Christmas feel it made our stay amazing. Thank you

The staff were welcoming and attentive. I was there as a wedding celebrant officiating an intimate elopement ceremony with the couple and their respective children, creating a blended family with a 'ties that bind' ceremony. The wedding coordinator was super efficient and very friendly. The ceremony room was beautifully decorated in the wedding colour scheme. Everything ran to time and was perfect. I really couldn't find fault with anything.

Stay was lovely and v good value for money considering how luxurious the hotel is. The staff are stand out and made our stay perfect. We had a treatment at the spa which was amazing and the outdoor pool was special. Only four star as the spa needs a bit of maintenance, our room was cold and the only vegan food for dinner is actually just a tiny plate of just vegetables with a sprinkle of nuts! It's 2023 there's no excuse for thinking vegans just eat a plate of vegetables.

My husband and I really enjoyed our 2 night trip. Staff friendly and always helpful. Food delicious. Spa area very good. My husband also enjoyed sauna and gym. Just a couple of small critiques, our heated towel radiator rail was not working but the manager did apologise and would have liked some more choices on the dinner menu. Looking forward to returning, close to city centre which was a bonus too.

We enjoyed a spa package today. The spa staff were lovely, and our treatments were very relaxing. We had afternoon tea too which was yummy, waiting staff attentive. Only feedback would be that the Spa bathrooms need a bit of attention (locks broken, no loo roll) but the actual spa itself was lovely. Lovely grounds too.

We had a great stay at Bath Spa Hotel. The room was lovely, and the bed was oh so comfortable! The restaurant was good and the service excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful. The pool was nice and warm and I enjoyed an early morning swim. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

We had a lovely welcome to the hotel by staff members at reception. Our room was ok I’ve had nicer rooms in premier inn for a fraction of the price. It took a while to get to the room and a load of flights of stairs which was a pain with all your luggage. Breakfast was nice and staff were helpful. The spa was full so we couldn’t get it but it was Valentine’s Day so I imagined it would be busy. The worse part for us was we paid £75 deposit on arrival and we haven’t been able to get it back. A month down the line and over twenty phone calls to the hotel. First few phone calls they kept telling us it had been returned. Further phone calls they were blaming our bank. End of the story is we still haven’t had the money off them and they are saying now it could take a further 30 days. I know it’s not a lot of money but it’s the principle of it and we would like it back! It’s left a really bitter taste in our mouths about returning to this hotel on future. Which is a shame as staff were lovely, location was great and we would have liked to use the spa next time.
