Excellent Japanese food and atmosphere Wow! What a pleasant surprise to find this gem of a restaurant. Not only was the food above average, but the service (Thanks Ky) was so refreshing in a time when service is not usually even acceptable. The Food: We ordered a variety of things starting with a refreshing Sunomon salad and working our way into the rolls and cones. We tried different ones than what we normally order and were very glad we did. Another customer told us on her way out to give the "watermelon" a try and it was the highlight of the night. I had never had a raw roll before but it was fantastic. Several kinds of protein (eel, tuna, & salmon, paired with cucumber, avocado and unagi sauce) made up this colourful sampler roll. All of the food was fresh, tasty and not overly packed in with rice. Very good quality sushi and sashimi, rolls and cones for the price. The ice cream to finish was very refreshing too. My faves were the Crispy Philadelphia roll and the Watermelon roll. The service: Our server Ky was attentive, knowledgeable and looking around the restaurant, the staff all seemed happy to be there. Rare treat these days. It was our first "dine in" in a very long time and they made it very enjoyable. Organized: From the kitchen to the table turn over, this restaurant has it figured out. We were called when our table was ready (from a wait-list) and walked over from our hotel. The walls separating the tables were easily moved to accommodate any size party and still offer privacy. Super flexible idea!! My takeaway: The next time I'm driving from Alberta to the coast, I will be overnighting in Revelstoke just so I can go for dinner here again.

I absolutely love sushi and could eat it everyday. Kawakubo was excellent! I would drive back to Revelstoke just to eat the sushi here again. Recommend making a reservation prior. The sushi was so fresh and delicious! The appetizer our server recommended was perfect! The sake was great. Prices were good! Overall 10/10! Definitely will come back next time I’m in Revelstoke!

Fresh out of the ocean sushi depp in the mountains. No, you aren't concussed from that last wipeout on Kill the Banker, it is possible. I showed up here with a small group as a walk in, they were full but said they would take my number and call me in 30 minutes to get us in. We toured the Art Alleria (check it out) and 30 minutes later to the second phone rings. The food is unreal! Every roll and I tried was melt in your mouth delicious. I highly recommend the crispy Philadelphia roll, didnt even know this was a thing. If you're looking for a good house sake to warm those bones after a day on the hill and fill your belly with some great good, check this place out.

On June 26, 2019, my wife and I dined here. Kawakubo happens to be one of the BEST sushi restaurants we’ve ever been to. This place was amazing. With a lot of sushi and sashimi, and a couple carafes of sake… they made our evening spectacular. We highly recommend eating here! The food was incredibly delicious!!!

Wonderful service and respectful staff. Got a seat at 8:40 and we were still fed past their closing time. The pricing of the sushi is high, however the quality of the sushi is very tasteful and fresh. The combo bowls are worth the price if you are not looking to eat any sushi. If you’re looking for a good sushi joint for a decent price this is the place to go!

Amazing. Went with a group of six and ordered almost everything on the menu. Nothing sucked. They catered well to our gluten free request.

The Japanese food there is the best I’ve ever had in Canada, for this price range! People often say the Japanese food in Vancouber is great and you never run out of choices. I honestly don’t think it’s true. Lots of the Japanese eateries in Vancouver they don’t serve good quality food. The choices are also super boring - you end up having the same bento and rolls in 95% of the Japanese eateries in Vancouver. This place, however, is absolutely high quality! The only thing to criticize is the slow service. We waited a good 50 minutes for our entrees to be served after the appetizers. But service was friendly and we really enjoyed the food there. This hidden gem was absolutely a nice surprise in Revelstoke. Love it!!

Revelstoke is a really small town, and we didn't even have too much expectations. We looked for places with a good menu as well as reviews and found this. Upon entering at 7pm, the front desk lady wasn't very keen on giving us a table to sit and told us we needed to wait about 1 hour or more??? Her way of communicating with customers needs training...dont remember her name, but she had blonde hair with 2 pony tails... just like elementary kids. We were hungry from our drive a exhausted so the only option was to sit on the bar counter...we had a minor with us but the same front desk lady said it was not an issu....so we just sat on the uncomfortable bar counter for our dinner. The bar seating was as uncomfortable as they've always been. We had good experience with our server, she was a really nice lady. The food was very good and that compensated for the initial experience. I would believe that this is good restaurant because that's what Google reviews say...so businesses need to pay attention to their image as well. This is an age of information, and any business that ignores it will fall into oblivion. P.S. to the restaurant manager, it's great to have a busy restaurant. It says about your quality of food and service, just don't let a few bad people ruin it.

It was our first time eating at a Japanese restaurant and we loved it there! The staff was very nice and so was the service. There were many options for veg, non veg etc. And food was fantastic!

Went here for our Summer vacation this year (2022) and was not disappointed. Although booking was difficult due to how busy they are, the hassle was worth it. Food was very fresh and extremely delicious. Definitely will be our go to whenever we are in Revelstoke again.

While on a weekend road trip my group and I decided to get some Sushi while staying the night at the near by three valley gap hotel. Now I will be the first to admit that my partner and I didn't have high expectations for good Japanese dining in small town BC. Boy we were wrong… upon entering the restaurant the hostess informed us that we would be getting our own dining room, given the size of our group and considering that the restaurant was filled on the ground floor being a Friday night it was quite busy. We were led to the upstairs and shown to our own private japanese dining room, we were asked to remove our shoes before entering, I was pleasantly surprised to see this in Canada and especially in the small town of revelstoke. Shortly after being seated our waitress brought the drink menu, we started with a round of tea, and the tea pot was huge, I appreciated that. While perusing the drink menu something caught my eye, the Asahi “mini keg” , this is something that I haven’t encountered in any Japanese restaurant, so I ventured downstairs and asked the waitress of I could see the mini keg. It was a quick yes . If your in a group order the mini keg it’s great for several people. Now onto the food my partner ordered the sashimi platter, and was blown away she compared it to our Goto place in Calgary in terms of quality and preparation, she was of the opinion that the chef was either Japanese or trained in Japan not a compliment she gives often, as for myself I ordered the chicken Katsu and cooked volcano roll. Both were quite good, I usually don't order a roll but I decided to give it a shot great combination and the spicy mayo tied it all together. All in all great experience I will definitely be back

We got here at opening with a hungry teenage soccer player. Service was great, food was so fast and so fresh, and the Chef's Choice for sushi lovers was top notch with a great and diverse selection. The chef even came to our table to serve the last two of three rolls and took the time to ask if there was anything we hadn't been served yet that we were wishing we had been...we suggested spice and he delivered. What a great touch when ordering a chef's choice option. That level of service was unexpected yet much appreciated. The final roll was the most amazing we've ever had! The salad that comes with the meal was also delightful compared to most others you'd get elsewhere. Our server was great and made an effort to check in on us frequently. They were getting busy when we left but things still seemed to be moving along as you'd expect. We will be back for sure!

2 stars for the food because it was good, but everything else drags me to 1 star. We had a reservation for 17:30.. and at 18:30(!) the very rude waitress at the front desk constantly "reminded" us that we only can sit until 19:00... thats a total of 1,5 hours which is ridicolous. At 18:57 she said "its 19:00 guys so please leave". Outrages, we still had 3 glasses of wine left...the greed must be this places biggest passion when they dont even let you finish your wine. Whats the point of making a reservation but having to stress out to finish everything, but yeah..next costumer please, money is everything. It was so loud because everytime the door closes it sounded like they are blasting avalanches next to us. Overall its waaaay to expensive for getting treated like in a mc donalds, if your looking for an authenthic japanese experience, go as far from this place as you can. AVOID THIS PLACE!!!

Tried to book a table for 2 on monday by Phone, but it was very busy, so we couldnt reach them. Went there anyway, they were full, had to wait for about 20-30 mins for a table, left my phone number, grabbed a drink at a bar with my girlfriend and then they called me to say there was a table free. And o boy it was worth the wait! Best sushi in ages. Great service. Definitely recommend.

From beginning to end this restaurant checks all the boxes. Our server Nikita? or receipt (Hannah) was attentive, engaging throughout our meal, a top notch server! As for our meal every plate was beautiful with so much attention to detail, a work of art. Above all, everything was fresh and pleasing to our palates! California born, Japanese heritage who has been to countless Japanese restaurants, I can truly say this restaurant is one of my fav. Compliments to the owner/chef who has created such a wonderful restaurant with awesome servers, environment and authentic Japanese cuisine. BARIOISHII!! Irene Sakino Nunn

Finally tried this place a week ago after few unsuccessful tries due to line ups. Anyhow, I really enjoyed the food and the quality of ingredients used to make it, so it's pricey due to the fact! As to the service, the servers were nice and friendly but, I would appreciated a follow up every few minutes because I waited for my order that came out very late. Conclusion: must try this good restaurant but expect delays.

We had friendly service, very little wait for food since we got there as soon as it opened. The sushi was tasty. My daughter loved her spicy rice wrap. It was all good, though I'd prefer the agadashi be cut into about eight small cubes rather than two huge chunks, and I would make the broth more broth then oily. The avocado roll was also quite small, but I guess that is standard. That said we did all enjoy our meal. I would return. It was a pleasant experience.

Such great food and truly outstanding service! Had the house salad, scallop battleship and watermelon roll, such a fresh, beautiful and delicious meal! Will definitely be going back! Great cocktails too :)

Excellent food and our server, Sarah, was five star! We can see why this place is so busy. We ordered and enjoyed the assorted tempura, karaage, and dynamite roll. All were perfect. Sadly, since we live on Vancouver island, we won’t be able to enjoy this establishment very often :(
