This place is huge considering it has a petting zoo/farm for the whole family. Walking around the whole park is great for picnics and great photo settings. The Japanese Gardens are great, colorful, waterfall so refreshing, fish, turtles and cute little bridges to cross. Great photo opportunities.

Honestly, I originally went to get ideas for a botanical garden in Minecraft, but the place is absolutely gorgeous. I ended up going back on a weekday, in the rain, just for the solitude. Wasn’t quite as pretty as in sunny weather, but it was just as profound.

Beautiful gardens! I haven't been in a long time and took my husband from Hungary for the first time. I was a little sad that the fountains and waterfall weren't running but we haven't had much rain, so it was understandable.

Huge, beautiful, free! garden to visit with the whole family! Highlight is definitely the Japanese garden. We went with a 2 year old and he loved all of the animals. Great stop if you’re visiting Richmond!

Definitely need to put on a nice comfortable pair of walking shoes! Haha that was my mistake but it her than that the views were gorgeous, we ended up finding the hidden waterfall which was superb, the Mansion home itself was closed the day I went but still plenty of pretty pictures from the outside, lots of history in different sections took about 2hrs to fully explore everything

Nice Gardens. Not overly crowded. Lots of Moms and Dads showing off their new ones. Many ,many families. Some steep areas. Followed the All Trails route.

What a marvelous place! You will be in awe of all of the structures gazebos and gardens there! My husband surprised me and took me to the park to walk and I could have stayed all day! Great shady spots to rest and ponder the beautiful grounds! Take me anytime!

A great area to walk in, immediately feels like a Japanese garden as soon as you enter. The ducks/geese? don't seem to mind being near humans and will sometimes walk along side you. Very peaceful! Also, you can walk to the eagle viewing area from here

This place is absolutely beautiful. Stunning scenery, you can spend hours here exploring and taking beautiful photos. I would recommend sturdy shoes as there are some steep and slippery parts of the garden. I wouldn’t bring a dog or small children who would need a stroller. The wildlife exhibits are fun and cute :)

A beautiful park with plenty of walking to do. Entrance is free but you can make a donation to the park. The Japanese garden was a personal favorite.

Went for Garden Glow, and it was great! Staff were available everywhere for help to answer questions and kept the line moving. The tour through the Japanese garden was self guided and was fantastic. Tons of kids around and food truck variety was great.

It’s well worth the trip if you enjoy a relaxing stroll with lovely scenery. We walked until we found a nice bench to set and enjoyed the scenery for a few minutes.

So much to explore and enjoy. There are handicap friendly paths. There are also some stairs and up hill walks in some areas. There is plenty of locations with shade to have a nice picnic. I came in the winter but it was still beautiful.

We went to the Garden Glow event that is held at night in the gardens. It is beautiful to walk around see all the trees and land scaping lit up the way they do it. This is a great event for kids, even small children enjoy it. It looks like a fairytale land and there's several area designed just for kids. There were several food trucks and a beer and wine booth. The multiple fire pits and benches at the end was a great place to end the evening with food and drinks.

Glow Garden was absolutely stunning! Very fun for kids and adults! Food vendors were good as well. We tried a little bit of everything. Everything is reasonably priced for sure!

Beautiful views and Italian and Japanese formal gardens in historic Richmond city. The 7.5 trails are easily navagatable with a lot to see along the way. Less than $10 suggested donation, and guided tours are available for a higher price. Stone outcropping and granite stairs are an accessibility problem

Beautiful lights, well lit paths, garden is lovely and you can see it is very well taken care of. Not a single piece of trash on the ground in these gardens. Best place to take photos for all types of events, I even had my prom pictures done here. Definitely a gem in Richmond.

I loved the Japanese garden. It's extremely peaceful and a nice hideaway from the rest of the city.

My partner and I did our engagement photos at Maymont Japanese Garden around noon on a Sunday in mid-November and it was absolutely perfect!! The lighting was amazing and the park did the rest. Our photographer had a lot to work with in terms of backdrops and settings. We had one outfit change and there were bathrooms available. However, if you plan to do that, be mindful of how far the bathrooms are from where you want to take photos. It was also not too busy, so that helped a lot! The only issue really was some of the "attractions" were not available this time of year, such as the waterwork displays and the walkway area with the columns had electrical wire blocking it off. Overall though, we had an amazing experience and would highly recommend to anyone wanting to take pictures outdoors.

I'm like a little child when I see bright lights. I saw the ad about this neon lights and of course I had to be there. I enjoy the pathways, in my opinion it was well organized. You were able to enjoy different scenics of the gardens. There was food, plenty of space to sit and relax. Something I see myself doing every year. I can't forget to mention the full moon was gorgeous and generous.

Was here at night for a night experience called GLOW. Wow, there was no parking and hundreds of people going through the tiniest pathways. I'm sure the park is nice in the daytime with less people but can't comment. The event would've been nicer without the huge crowds, very uncomfortable.

Beautiful gardens and unique structures and waterways. A popular spot for photographers and group pictures whichncan be detracting at times of high volume. The gardens are kept up impressively well and my kids always enjoy going.

This garden was so nice! Very pretty, very peaceful and very calming. Beautiful place for weddings or ceremonies. We really enjoyed looking around at everything. And just letting you know it's a garden, that's all it is so if you're looking for more you're going to be disappointed. Has a very nice water fall and cute picture places.

Very nice! Free park to spend time as a picnic or just walking and taking pictures. The grounds could use a cleaning, but this could be because we went in early spring.

Free to enter, you only have to pay to tour the mansion and visit the nature center. Lots to see. I wanted to see the bear they used to have, but it looked like they didn't have one when I visited. Be aware that this is a popular spot for photoshoots, so I would try to come earlier in the day on weekdays. Otherwise, their gardens are well-kept and nice area to walk around. The only thing I have an issue with is the enclosures with their hawks and owls. They seem far too small for them and it doesn't look like they have enough space to fly around in. Both me and my friend commented on it. With how much space they have around the park you'd think they'd be able to provide those birds with bigger enclosures.
