I am originally from Rio de Janeiro however i live abroad it’s been 10 years, i used to come to this place a lot when i was younger and since i was in downtown today i decided to stop and have something to eat. I must say that i am deeply disappointed! You pay 15BRL for a cold cappuccino and 40BRL for an omelette with what they say “green salad”. This is 11 Euros, in Rio de Janeiro!! This 2 slices of horrible tomatoes and couple of lettuce leaves that was probably from yesterday morning. Absolutely disgusting, don’t waste your time coming there, it’s not like used to be. For half of this price you can each much better anywhere in downtown Rio. I am Restaurant Manager in Dubai and i have been working in restaurants for over a decade and i have never seen horrible service as well. I asked what’s the brand of the water you serve and the waiter had no idea! I wish i could give less than zero star.

It was an absolutely beautiful place with a bustling atmosphere but the food was very subpar. Tasted like they were made days prior - very much not fresh. The menu looks amazing but what comes to the table was very underwhelming. We didn’t finish anything. The pastries were so dry they were hardly edible. We tried several different menu items (10+) and we wouldn’t come back for any of them. This was really a tourist trap - staff seemed more eager to sell us a picture of us visiting than to attends to us too. Sad :(

The lady upstairs in charge of arrangement of seats is nice and sincere to tourists! Tourists love taking pictures and staff know about it that they do not show any impatient on their faces! No racist staff here!

Beautiful old location. Used to be one of the first cafes in Rio. Service was quite good and very responsive. The food came nicely setup on the plate and even comes with a cover to keep it warm until it reaches the table, which is why i was extra surprised that the food was not hot enough. The milanesa tasted like it had been re-heated in a microwave. Cant say for sure it was, but really tasted and felt like that. The “French” side dish was certainly not very french, and was not very tasty. The risotto was also slightly warm, and even digged into the center and was also barely warm. Portions are quite large. Neither of the plates were finished. This is a shame as it leaves no space for dessert and tasting the really good looking cakes.

I love this place! The desserts are delicious! It’s simply the best croissant in town. I think that the price is fair, since the food is very tasteful and well served. The service could be better. The architecture is beautiful and it’s very well preserved.

Absolutely loved the food and service. What ruined the entire experience was the abnormally rude staff as you leave, your forced to take a photo which they try and sell you on exit. The quality of the photo is terrible and they continuously drop the price when you keep saying no. The rude girl then finishes the experience with an eye roll. As you exit you are hassled for money by people waiting outside.

The place is so beautiful! It’s ones of the few places that exists in Rio for a long time! Cafeteria Colombo have this story with Rio! Besides it, all the things you order to eat is delicious! Love this antique place in the heart of the downtown! If you are in Rio, you should come and visit! The prices is affordable for foreigners and a bit expensive for locals!

The cafe is good but i had to stay on a long queue before getting inside also after the long stay you have to stand up and go place an order yourself. The waiters only come to you to take drink orders

It's crazy full of tourists but the staff is remarkably efficient in managing traffic and getting people in and out. The food was actually pretty good, and the room is so lovely I recommend going just to see the atmosphere. We had a great brownie sundae and some good sandwiches.

If you are in Rio, you must visit Confeitaria Colombo, you will probably face a huge queue but I’m sure you will not regret. The bolinho de bacalhau in Rio. We had few sweet pies and waffles (huge by the way) that was good.

Historic bistro with great ambiance; central in the lives of every local I spoke with ("My grandparents got engaged here." "When I was elementary school age and visited my dad's office, he would take me here for lunch." Etc.) But the food is not top notch. Everything we tried, from salads to main courses to desserts, were second rate. Drop by for an espresso, enjoy the charm, but skip the food.

This place is indeed GORGEOUS! The food is also great and you absolutely get what you pay for. Everything was delicious and the staff was generally really nice with us. We went in a group of 6 and there was no wait in line, but we had to go to the second floor. It was also a Thursday afternoon.

Amazing place! It is little bit expensive but worth every pany. Ambient is breathtaking, tou feel as you move to time portal and go back in 19 centuries. It is a MUST VISIT. Coffe is good but but sweeter then how we make in Europe. It is always crowded, so there is always queue at entrance. We waited 15min

Confeitaria Colombo is mesmerizing. It’s in the heart of Rio de Janeiro, boasting breathtaking architecture adorned with gigantic mirrors and stunning stained glass. Earning its well-deserved spot as one of the world's 10 most beautiful cafes, this traditional confectionery, founded in 1894, reflects the opulence of the Belle Époque. The Art Nouveau touches from the renovations in 1912 and 1918, featuring crystal mirrors from Antwerp and rosewood friezes, transport visitors to a bygone era. The craftsmanship of Antônio Borsoi is evident in the intricately carved wooden furniture, adding to the establishment's timeless charm. The list of illustrious patrons, from Chiquinha Gonzaga to Elizabeth II, only adds to its storied history.

It's like stepping into a fairy tale... A superb experience. Kids love it, and adults become kids again. Pastries are good, a bit below my expectations, though. Dinner menu, dozen varieties of coffee brews. Must go!

Had lunch here today and that really was a waste of money. We ate a variety of dishes and after waiting for quite a while most of them came to the table almost cold. The chicken croquettes were awful, and it seemed that the flour used for the stuffing was uncooked and dense, not fluffy and tasty. The shrimp pie was uneatable. The pastry was unusually crumbly and it looked like it was uncooked. The filling resembled everything but prawns. One morsel was enough for me. Yuck! The combination of entrees was merely okay, at least it was hot, but I could not really tell what I was eating. The best were the bacalhau fritters. Desserts were a bit better, but not excellent. The Pastel de Belem, was good but I can make them at home and if anything I think they come even better, and the dulce de leche dessert was nice but a bit too sweet. And then the bill came with about 22 Brazilian Reals added on top. I asked the waiter what that was for and told me it was for the service. As far as I know there is no obligation to leave a tip in Brazil and when I asked him he confirmed it. I refused to pay it. We spent 185 Reals for a meal that was really bad and with a waiter that never smiled at us. This is a real tourist trap and would not come back ever again 😒

This traditional restaurant in downtown Rio is excellent. It is a very beautiful place and their pastries are delicious.

The place is unbelievable. It’s like stepping into a time capsule back to Brazil at the Belle Epoque era. If the place is stunning, the food is astounding. You will find everything from savory to sweet to suit your palate. It’s a shame it’s located in downtown Rio de Janeiro and the area has seen better times. Be careful when getting out from the restaurant to avoid the beggars and muggers.

We could call this a historical place I guess opened in 1894. There was a huge queue to get a table. They do capture/sell photograph souvenirs (I was surprised though 😀) The ambience is great. Gives a royal historical vibe. With huge mirrors all around, this place looks bigger that it is. Cappuccino was great. Not really sure if these are the original recipes but most of the drinks had whipped cream in them. Red velvet cake was decent.

The line was extremely long. The interior reminds me of the excessive designs of the Great Gatsby. 👌🏽 And the chance to taste a couple of confections and a nice espresso was a huge reward!

Truly one the most beautiful, unique and antique places in the world to enjoy woderful pastries, delicious coffee and beverage options and resaurant food. Circa 1918 elegance to be enjoyed over 100 years later. Confeitaria was my son's wedding venue and they got it all right.

Honestly, it’s just a tourist trap. I’ve been to better bakeries in Paris, New York and London. It’s a beautiful establishment, has a unique interior look that is impressive. The service is somewhat attentive and pleasant but the product itself is left to be just ok. We went sort of at the end of the day and ordered whatever was still available. Everything else was sold out. We got the pistachio eclair (served cold!), choc hazelnut torte and regular coxinha. My partner who is Brazilian said the coxinha was ok but the meat was dry. I took one bite and was not in the least impressed. Honestly this place was skippable on my list of food stops. $14usd for coffee, a water and 3 bakery items. I would rather spend $20 at a laduree and have a coffee and one pastry!

Wonderful place. A step back in time at the CBD of Rio de Janeiro. Definitely a place to go and enjoy some refreshments or lunch. Does not matter what, it is impossible not to fall in love with the 10 meters high mirrors and all the atmosphere of the place. The food is also lovely and complement the experience.

This historical coffee shop/restaurant is very personal to my family as my grandma visited without fail. The service is very fast despite extremely long tourist queues at all times of day. The lunch portions are generous and you can also opt to buy the classic photo op taken on their professional cameras. The Belle Époque building is in good condition, worth visiting although I’d highlight that currently the neighborhood isn’t the best area of Rio so I’d stick to morning visits for safety reasons.

Slow service; so-so food but still glad they're around since 1895. Quite pleasing to know such an old business is still in operation and it's worth a visit but only one in my opinion.
