The stay wasn't too bad. The rooms are actually very spacious and the restaurant staff was very friendly at breakfast. My only notes would be that for the bathroom I'd rather have toilet paper rolls than the dispenser giving 1 square at a time. Also, not sure if I missed it but I would've thought a safe might be a good thing to have in a hotel room but I stayed for just 1 night so I might have not seen it if it was there.

One of the most unique Premier Inns I’ve stopped in. It’s located in a 1930’s building so they have retained a lot of the original features on one side of the hotel, also outside is an original cast iron arcade that they have restored as a feature. The room was standard premier inn quality. First room I was given had a broken air-con and no hot water but was resolved with a new room which was very quiet as it was on the side street near the church. The attached restaurant was very good, better than most premier inn ones, very rustic feel to it. Deffo would recommend this premier inn hotel.

Mixed reviews. Pro; good location, large rooms and great breakfast and meal deal for tea. Tasty steak and chips. Cons; asked for service for my room twice and neither time was done.

Room was nice and clean. The bar was messy. Paper and popcorn scattered on the floor when we sat down. Two drinks and an hour later no-one had cleared up the mess. The bar area was quiet.

Fab building, the old Co-op, so interesting architecture and details. Room huge, clean and comfy. Staff really friendly and helpful. Useful luggage storage available (and free) if you want to leave your case to have a wander round the shops between checking out and catching your train.

Really enjoyed this hotel. Great reception area, terrific room with an excellent ensuite bathroom area that was well appointed. Very comfortable bed. Breakfast was excellent as well with plenty of choice - full English or continental. Terrific location for where we were going to the theatre for a comedy performance. A little more information concerning the proximity of the car park dedicated to the hotel would have been helpful.

The rooms are a wonderful place and offer maximum comfort. However the TV is smart but can't connect to the Internet. The bathroom is great yet I could not use the bathtub which had traces of human hairs meaning cleaning was done vaguely. The "continental breakfast" was terrible for such a hotel yet it cost 20pouds.. No bacon no eggs I bet it was beaten totally on this by an hostel I know which charges just 8pounds for a similar breakfast. You can improve.

Spent one night at the hotel, on a Sunday in mid October. The hotel seemed to be fairly quiet, based on the number of people at breakfast. Location was excellent, only a short walk from the railway station. The building is very impressive, and retains many interesting architectural features from its original days as a Co-op. Check in was quick and friendly. The room was clean and comfortable, and everything worked as it should. The staff member in the breakfast room was courteous and welcoming. Good selection of items on the breakfast menu. Would certainly stay here again.

Location is perfect everything you need around you. Service was cold the gentleman checking us in didn't look like he wanted to be there. The room was large but in desperate need of repairs and a deep clean. There was a 6 foot gouge out of the wall were it looked like a bed had been dragged along. The head board was stained with something. The sink plug is a spring push it was broken resulted in not being able to fill and drain the sink. We reported it was told someone would have a look never happened. It was reported to the same gent who check us in. Seems like a hindrance tbh. The sleep was brilliant all be it a little warm. Windows don't open. And the rooms ventilation doesn't go lower than 20 so it was quite warm. We didn't have breakfast but on leaving it did look like it was your typical quality premier inn breakfast. I'd recommend for a place to stay for a night out but if your staying a few nights I'd look at other options as u can pay a small amount more and get real quality and service for the small amount more.

Excellent location! 10 minute walk from the Central Station. Right opposite Eldon Square (enter via New Look and take the stairs or lift up 1 level, and you're at the main mall), which has loads of shops and food/drink options, including a Starbucks. Next to Mr Mulligans Newcastle which is great - crazy golf, arcade games, interactive darts, pool tables, ping pong, air hockey and VR. The Hotel is a few doors down from The Gate, which has a Halal Nandos, Pizza Hut, Cineworld (and another Starbucks) and more! Tesco Express was only a 5 minute walk but there is a small convenience store next to the hotel. Great Customer Service! Check in was very quick. Friendly staff. No faults here. Building - it is the old co op building and the staircases have some historic displays! Price - very well priced when paying in advance. Great Room! Our Premier Plus Room was excellent. The temperature control was excellent and worked well. Good lighting and ambient lighting option. A TV with easy HDMI connectivity which is great for our Firestick. Fast complimentary WiFi. Super powerful shower. Nespresso machine and a Mini Fridge! We really liked the room although we usually stay at 4 or 5* hotels! The only reason this hotel didn't score the full 5* is because at one point in the evening, between 10 and 11pm, we had no hot water for almost an hour. Also, the bed was definitely not a super king bed. Will definitely stay here again! Excellent value for money.

Nice hotel. Lots of history and culture within it. Love the fact they have kept some of the old ballroom decorations. No parking with hotel is the only reason for the 4 star for location

I highly recommend the spiral cut fillet steak, perfectly cooked and so tender! It comes with beef dripping chips that are very nice too. The staff are also nice and friendly.

Rooms are reasonably big and spacious. Lobby bar is good & friendly crews. Drinks are available easily but tables are not wipe often enough. Each time we had a drink, it has glass marking on it.

Upon arrival the reception staff were less than welcoming, in fact we felt like we were interrupting. And that was the story for the duration of our stay. However, things were good in the restaurant area. A particular call out to Andrew, Willow, and James who were excellent, and very friendly and helpful, despite been busy. Our room was large and clean and comfortable, and the ability to get extra tea and milk from downstairs without asking was a great idea. I am not a fan of having to ask for your room to be cleaned every day, this should be part of the package you pay for, not an additional request. When you do ask we had varying levels of cleanliness. One time our bed was left unmade, but we got extra towels. Then our bed was made and everything was nice and clean. So it depended on who did your room. We had breakfast every day and dinner twice, and apart from one morning when there was no bacon and the scrambled egg looked black, the food was excellent and plentiful. The hotel is within easy walking distance of the main areas of the city, and I'd recommend going on Toon Tours, and the short train journey to Durham. Upon closing, all the hotel needs to do is ensure staff are doing the right thing as in the names given, to get top marks.

Fantastic location for a central city break and great value, lovely interesting building and we had a huge family room that was clean and well presented we also recommend the buffet breakfast if your a family of 4 like us it's a no brainer as kids eat for free so it's £5 each sets you up for the day. We also booked at q Park, which is just rnd the corner threw the premier inn site was good value at £14 for 24hrs

Right in the city centre, brilliant placement. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were very big, however there was a lot of damp and mould but I understand it’s quite hard to do anything about that. Overall, a great experience!

Great hotel in a great location, spotless rooms and a big comfy bed, friendly and helpful staff, what more do you want at this price, definitely worth a visit and highly recommended.

Enjoyed a couple of nights here recently. Lovely big room, comfortable bed. Handy for the city centre - shops, bars restaurants. We had one small issue with the room which Marcellus on Reception promptly sorted out - thank you so much Marcellus! We would not hesitate to stay here again.

Great location. Service and room were great. Only thing is that even though when booking you’re told that if you check in before 3 you gotta pay £10 don’t think you will be exempt if checking in 40 mins before 3. They’ll still charge you.

I cant say enough about the staff here, everyone from the minute we arrived until the minute we left were so helpful, friendly and polite. Of note is Shay who even left me a birthday card and chocolates from all the staff. The adjacent bar and restaurant was good value and served nice food. All in all a wonderful 3 nights that was made five star by all the staff.

Location is perfect. Very center, surrounded by restaurants and takeaways. There's a Oriental supermarket right across the street. We ordered family room, and get a very spacious room with 1 single bed, 1 double bed, and 1 sofabed; enough for 4 people with very affordable price.

Rooms were nice just air-conditioning was "broken" , you can only adjust speed but no temperature, which make it much colder then I liked. Other than that it was great stay. Breakfast was delicious. Check in and outs was fast.

Great hotel in a great location. Speedy check-in. The building itself is a fantastic experience with so much history. Really do recommend taking the stairs down at least once for a nice suprise and a great touch explaining the buildings history. Only downside was, yes, the rooms have air conditioning, but this seemed to turn itself off after about 2 hours. This meant, waking up hot, turning it back on, and it having to work harder and louder to bring the room back to a reasonable temperature than it just idly working at a low rate. Still, Premier Inn quality bed, and a nicer room than most.

A surprisingly lovely hotel. Good, clean and quiet rooms and the original art deco staircases from the Co-Operative department store have been thoughtfully maintained.

  • 5/5 Dave J. 1 year ago on Google
This hotel is very central which means you need to preplan your car parking. The food is above normal Premier Inn standards as it's a Bar and Block restaurant. My shredded beef starter was divine and my steak was cooked to perfection. The beer was really good and the service lead by the exuberant maitre de was first class. This is an old Coop building so has some really quirky features which enhances your stay

They had charged twice due to website payment glitch. No luck getting through to customer service as getting the same message all day: "unable to accept your call due to high volume of calls", which doesn't really tie up with an image of a hotel with amazing reviews. Most shocking of all, when a guest was in the shower, he came out to a Chinese family of 3 that moved into the same room and helped themselves to his bed and items of clothing. Complaint was made but ignored. So not only we were charged double for a shocking service, there is no one out there to address it with or arrange a refund or at least an apology. Avoid at all cost!

The premier inn is ideally situated in Newcastle city centre near to at James’s park. The staff were very friendly on arrival going through the check in procedure and happy to help with extra coffee for the room and even gave me a free chocolate! The rooms are well provisioned with tea and coffee, a comfy bed and even a bath for a good soak after work. Absolutely no complaints and would happily stay again and recommend to anyone

The rooms are absolutely massive, that was the first thing I noticed when I arrived. Everything else is very much expected Premier Inn. Comfortable bed, great friendly service. The restaurant attached provides lovely breakfasts and evening meals if required. Having the hotel a 5 minute walk away from St James Park is also a bonus as this was where I needed to go for work.

Unfortunately, we did not have as good an overall experience on this occasion as on previous stays. We arrived late on Sunday and were not told that room cleaning now has to be requested. Apparently, this was changed about a month ago as a reaction to Covid-19. It seemed to us though, that this was actually more about staffing levels. We would have been quite happy with clean towels every day and the one clean we requested. However, we had to either request extra towels at reception every day, or ask for them from housekeeping staff - if we were lucky enough to see one on our floor. Used towels were not collected from our room. The heating system in our room appeared to be faulty. This was reported at reception. We also asked that the minimum temperature of 19°C be reduced. This was not actioned. We grew tired of continually having to raise our issues with reception staff. Location still great and bed as always very comfortable.

The location of this hotel is excellent and you a right in the centre or Newcastle. The Premier Plus room was a worthy upgrade. We had an extremely spacious room and the aircon worked great without making us ill. The staff at check-in were welcoming and friendly.

The bouncers at the weekend aren't the most friendly. Would be nice to just walk up to my room at night without the hassle. Service from the regular staff is pretty good Room was nice bar the shower. I hate fixed showers. How are you supposed to clean the bottom half of your body?

  • 5/5 Irene M. 2 years ago on Google
Very clean all round. We had dinner here as we were short of time, found it expensive for what we got. Bedrooms and bathroom very clean and fresh. Staff very nice and helpful with walking directions to where we wanted to be. Not well sign posted on the roads into Newcastle but once we found it it was central for everything

I like this hotel. Not many Premier inn are with air conditioning, so I was happy with it and the room was comfortable, clean and quite. Staff is friendly and helpful. The only minus is that you have to use the Q car park which is 3-4 minutes walk and it’s quite expensive even with the discount about £11-13 for the night Good location as well.

Stunning building. The old Co-operative Building of Newcastle with many original features. A real slice of history. All 1920s Art Deco Style. Really beautiful. Great staff too. We had a great stay I love the little iron men holding up the bannister!

We spent just one night at Newcastle City Centre Premier Inn but would definitely go back again. Can't fault the friendly welcome and service. The room up to usual standards, with nice comfy bed, everything clean and tidy. Location is ideal for nearby venues such as the O2, with a good choice of places to eat, shops etc all within minutes, and close by the railway station too. We were able to leave our luggage after checkout so we could explore the area along the river- Baltic is worth a visit even if just for the wonderful views. Thank you for making our first visit to Newcastle go so smoothly.
