Bad impression at first: the museum is closed. All of it. The rooms, the tours, the store - shut down. This is my third capital building and the least inviting. Every door was closed. If it wasn't for the open session and beautiful architecture, I would have been sorely disappointed. I was able to sit upstairs and listen in on the session which was a treat. I felt a measure of restored faith in humanity. They questioned finance on expenditures and voiced their concerns regarding project deadlines. All without trying to win a vote or hidden agenda. I'm not even a resident in this state, but to hear these politicians speaking up on behalf of the citizens was a breath of fresh air. If you have an hour, take the time and listen in. Side note: they have wall display cases for each county. Some are elaborate, some a simple and some are a disaster. It's the capital building - do better.

Clean and beautiful. I didn't go inside as I thought I've been to the one in WA DC, so let's save time for something else. However, I was awestruck by the lush green and delightfully fragrant orange trees laden with ripe fruits. They line the pathways and stand tall against the tall palms and buildings in the background. They smell lovely. The rose garden is also breathtaking, there are many varieties. Some people were there to take wedding pictures and Instagram videos, because it's so warm, beautiful and pleasant here. There are hummingbirds hovering above the salvia bushes also. Love this lovely place!

We were visiting Sacramento and decided to check out the California State Capitol. It was built in a Neoclassical style by prominent architect Reuben S. Clark in 1874. At one corner there is a Capital Mall and on another side, there is Capitol Park. The Capitol Museum is on the grounds of the Capitol. It is free to enter on weekdays. We couldn't enter the museum because it was a weekend, so we roamed around the park. Remember to check out the website before visiting about closures and reservations.

Great place to spend some time. It’s free to visit and you need to pass security. We were here for about 1-2 hours and saw a lot of things. In the basement is a gift shop with great items.

We had a tour here, and the whole family loved it. I personally appreciate the tour guys who work there. They do it with so much love, and they talk about it with so much passion. They do such a great job. All together, it's a good place if you want to know and see some California history. P.S it's under construction right now but still open for the public

The number one tourist place in Sacramento, CA, is the State Capitol. As the state capital, it is full of rich history. The entrance is free, and both the interior and exterior are exceptionally beautiful. It is definitely worth a visit, as you can have great historical experiences here. They offer free tours, but it's advisable to check their website for specific days and times. If you're in Sacramento, don't miss the opportunity to visit this wonderful building. The pictures on the walls depict the history of senators. The building is maintained perfectly, and the architecture is commendable!

It’s beautiful and majestic, well maintained. Visiting this place could help us to have a better understanding about the United States history and how the government employment work back then. It’s renovating different sections of the building so very limited areas we can see. I’m glad we went there.

The California State Capitol is a very interesting place to visit. The guided tour is absolutely worth the time. The architectural details in the main rotunda and the assembly rooms are beautiful. And the desks used by our state representatives are original to the building!!

Amazing architecture of building around the capitol building, very nice gardens. It's a good one day trip to walk around and visit the museum, library. There are many restaurants around and the local coffee shops are worth a try.

I really liked that there is a transparency and openness when you come to a Capitol. First, check what are the operating hours. I took a tour at about 12pm. The guide was a very friendly and emotional person. He told amazing facts about California and capitol itself. Just keep in mind many parking lots in downtown are not free.

Very nice that you can go in and walk around and see the capitol building. We were glad we came during the Christmas season and had room to wander and look around without huge crowds and busy halls.

A beautiful state capital building in the heart of downtown Sacramento. The tours are free and will last approx 45mins or so. It’s worth to take the tour to better understand the history of the building and be able to access the chambers where meetings are held. A lot of amazing history and past governors portraits and info. Friendly staff to help and navigate you in the right directions. A must visit when you’re in Sacramento.

Video should make you giggle but I was serious. I had a great tour of the capital. Security was a breeze. There are some reconstruction happening so beware if that. It was wonderful to see the old offices but I was most impressed with the chambers. I didn’t get to see any actual legislative personnel but I got inspired. You can find paintings of all the known governors of California. Never been a black one, apparently. You’ll love the architecture and strong feel to the building. It’s like a bunker. There’s security and guides all over so you won’t get totally lost. The cafe was closed when I visited. I did get to visit the store. I decided to grab a tie. P - parking: 1/5 P - price: 5/5 S - seating: 3/5 V - value: 5/5 V - return value: 3/5

I'm going to start writing more positive reviews. I'm tired of writing negative reviews about as much as everyone is tired of reading them. But the state capital was a nice Lil trip. Enjoyed myself very much. It was good changing up the Sean. I liked it very much.

Was part of a small tour group hosted by funnyman Joe, who relayed quite interesting facts about the Capitol building.. like Ca. currently has a superpower economic status in this modern times.. but they did 'run out of "money" '.. actually more than once !, during the construction of this marvelous building.. so, go on, take the tour, walk the corridors and learn some little history..

It's a state capital, full of history, its free. My children love to run around here, my older children and myself got an opportunity to watch the State Assembly in session, that was pretty amazing to see how it all worked. It's beautiful inside and out. Last we went they are doing construction so we only saw about half of the capital. It's worth a visit.

I think there was a vote going on when I went there and I didn't feel very welcome as a visitor that day. Some parts of the museum are very interesting but I have to admit as a foreigner a lot of that stuff was lost on me. Loved the statue of President Reagan too!

It’s free to come in to see this beautiful government building. And the view of the iconic gold bridge is magnificent. You have to drive through it to feel the best of it.

Beautiful building of a Californian government and museum under one roof. The whole building is A/Ced and you can get some refreshments from the bistro on the ground floor. If you like to find out more about California, put your name down on the list for a guided tour (free of charge). We really enjoyed our time over here and I can recommend it to anybody.

Got to walk around the capitol. Some rooms have been turned into a museum showing life in the capitol around 1906. Also did the tour which was very informative and interesting. Definitely worth the time!

A very nice surprise visiting such a lovely building inside for the first time after living in California for 55 years! Great architecture and great, enthusiastic tour guide to make it a wonderful and educational experience! Who can't pass up an opportunity to see the governator's larger than life portrait!

Currently the exterior entrance is under renovation, easily missed. They said it will take 5 years to complete (!), we will see. There was a Gen Z prayer musical event outside the State Capitol for California. Beautiful and majestic.

The California Capitol building is a magnificent example of neoclassical architecture. Its grand façade and impressive dome command attention as you approach. The interior is equally captivating, with its historic chambers and ornate decor that reflect the state's rich political history. Speaking of iconic California contributions, just like the Capitol building has become a symbol of the state's government, Levi's 501 jeans are emblematic of California fashion and culture. These classic jeans, born in San Francisco, have transcended time, remaining a staple in the fashion world, symbolizing the enduring spirit of the Golden State. Both the Capitol building and Levi's 501 jeans embody a sense of history and timelessness that's deeply ingrained in California's identity.

The building is amazing, beautiful, breathtaking! I suggest going on a tour. The guides will provide alot of useful history information of the building. After the tour, your free to walkaround on your own. The architecture of the building is just beautiful, has alot of character. I could stare at it all day. We went to see it both days that we were in Sacramento. There is a gift shop in basement, a restaraunt, restrooms. Wear comfortable shoes.

They are still doing construction to the capitol but it’s still worth a trip to see some of the art and statues. The surrounding gardens are always a nice experience, but that’s also affected by the construction/upgrades. The gift shop is downstairs from the rotunda and has some really cool souvenirs and proceeds go to a great cause so that’s always a good feeling.

Cultural experience, very interesting, with free guide every hour from 10am. You are 100% immersed in their atmosphere, they explain the culture to you and with the guide they also show you halls or rooms that you would not be able to without a guide.

If you have middle school or high school aged children, i would highly recommend that you take a family field trip here. I think it’s important for children to see a part of the government in which they live and see how it’s run. Not just read about it in social studies or history books.

It’s free admission but a half of areas either under construction or closed. But it’s still worth to stop by to learn the history of Cali.
