What happened here? I used to tell everyone that Chickadee was the best hostel in the world. Sadly, when I returned last week it was a shadow of what once was. Other guests had to let me in, at a reasonable time mind you, and check me in as there was no staff to be seen. The place is still beautiful with chilled atmosphere but one has to rely on other guests as there is absolutely no service. I asked politely for my "foreign registration" which all hotels in Russia do for visitors as it's mandatory, but Chickadee never did it for me. Actually, I never saw their staff again. How sad to see this place's decline.

A good place. It's clean, warm and comfy. Why 4* then? Well, I've been to a lot of hostels and everywhere there's a special atmosphere. Here, everyone was on his/her own. A lot of tourists from dif countries...but as I said above - everyone was on his/her own. I could never know the administrators (they changed daily, even twice a day), they didn't have badges or smth. But they were kind and nice, and spoke English as well. I think, if I'm to come here again, I'd stay at the same place. But mind this - it's a bit far from the main sightseeing places. The subway is like 5-7 mins walking away.

This is literally the best hostel I've ever been to. Clean rooms, friendly staff, super cozy atmosphere, amazing service (breakfast, laundry..). A must when visiting st. Pete.

If you're reading this review - you're in luck, because you found the best hostel in all of Russia. I spent almost 2 months living here and got to know the employee's and the owners quite well. They're all amazing people and will go up and beyond to make your stay enjoyable and comfortable. Not only are the employee's amazing but they are passionate about their jobs. They cook breakfast every morning and the amount of time and detail they put into it is incredible. Also, they provide free laundry and most of the time it's done by the next day. If you're still reading, please do yourself a favor and book this hostel. You will make everlasting friends and it will make your stay in SPB fantastic! Thank you so much, Chickadee!

Really great hostel with great staff! Book before 5 days, becomes very fast full-reserved. Can recommend it! There is free breakfast and they cook soups sharing with the guests. @Selontour

Chikadee Hostel is the Best hostel in Saint Petesburg, when we were there , it was so great. The Rooms , shared areas, bathrooms, showers and the breakfast are incredible. Thanks you for the porridge!😀 And the staff is amazing and they are so polite.

Hostel is well located, how ever my experience was unsatisfactory. The smell in the kitchen was terrible, smelling sewer, due to a problem occurred during my stay. I could not even have my breakfast the smell was disgusting. To my complaint about the situation I was invited to leave the hostel.

Staff are very kind and welcoming, hostel has overall unique mood and atmosphere that blend well with St.petersburg. Also I loved free laundry service.

No doubt about it, do yourself a favour and stay here! + Extremely friendly staff, good atmosphere in the hostel, traditional (free) Russian breakfasts), quality (free) WiFi, free laundry, staff that's willing to help in any way possible (translations, recommendations), they seem to attract a solid group of travelers as guests, beds are comfy, the place is clean! - Absolutely none; maybe that you have to check out and not have them part of your physical life anymore

This hostel is a great refuge. The staff spoke English well, and were very helpful, friendly and professional. Plus this place has all the amenities, is clean and located in a nice area. A very positive vibe.

Stayed at three Hostels in Russia, two of them were full of local russian long-time tenants but not the chickadee! We met Germans, Austrians, Spanish and Ukraine people, very nice owners, delicious breakfast, excellent prices and great atmosphere all together! If you visits St. Petersburg, stay here!
