Incredible art pieces, but very repetitive. It loses the suspense of this place. It's smaller then I thought and you cannot take pictures. Probably due to the fact that they are still trying to profit off of the talent of their ancestors. Here are some pictures, to save you time and money. Here's to the Italian gentleman who told me no photos.

Beautiful. Lots of people but just were very respectful and quiet. We were told we were not allowed to take pictures of any kind in the actual chapel. Unfortunate when there is still somebody who figures they are above the rules and takes photos anyway. The rule is meant to protect the integrity of these many hundred-year-old paintings so beautifully restored now. The pictures shown here with my posting are in an area outside the chapel where you are allowed to photograph.

To get to this chapel you need to walk inside half the Vatican museum, that takes a while. Just know that walking the whole museum is 8 kilometers. No joke. La Capella Sistina is so beautiful that you could stay there for hours, but they only allow you for about 10 minutes because all the time is crowded. This is the only place in the whole museum that you are not allowed to take pictures. In order to avoid the long lines, it is better to buy ticket online.

Absolutely terrific. We did a small group tour & skipped the line. Our tour guide was great. Priceless antiquities of human history are in the Vatican. The imagination of the artists, the colors, their skills are on display throughout the buildings. Catholic or not, this should not be missed if in Rome.

Although we visited the Sistine Chapel in a low tourist season, there were too many people so we could not enjoy it as we would have liked. Photos are not allowed. However, I managed to quickly snap a few. It was a transgression I could not resist. I point out that most of the photos they have uploaded to Google Maps are not of the Sistine Chapel but of other rooms of the Vatican Museums, in which photography is allowed. The Sistine Chapel is almost at the end of the Vatican Museums route. If you get tired, be sure to take the detour, a shorter route avoiding many intermediate museum rooms that are just as suffocatingly full of people and without offering the possibility to sit down and rest. Don't worry if you need to relieve yourself, there are toilets scattered around. On the occasion I would like to note that all the places we visited in Rome had a lot of tourism. The whole city is flooded with tourists even though it was low tourist season. Don't make the mistake of traveling to Rome without pre-booking tickets for the places you want to visit, otherwise you won't be able to get in. The queues and waiting are too long. Keep in mind that for almost all attractions you need to pay a ticket and almost all places are checked similar to that of an airport. In my opinion, the Roma pass is not worth it as it is not like in other cities that allows you almost unlimited access to museums, etc.

Words can’t express how beautiful this place is! Firstly, I’d highly recommended booking in advance as the queues were forever down road; some people were still in the queue after us being in there for 3 hours… but if you book in advance; 1. You save money! & 2. You get in almost straight away and don’t have to wait! “Get your guide” I booked with and it was much cheaper, faster and trustworthy - it also had its own line for getting in and we got in straight away! Definitely recommend taking out half your day to explore this beautiful place, as it can extremely busy… shoulder to shoulder busy :/ and don’t forgot to see the Sistine Chapel! Which is at the bottom! It’s beautiful, nothing like I’ve ever seen :) It’s so big, beautiful and so much to view. There is on site food areas, which I’d say are fair priced for such a beautiful tourist area. Safe to say it’s one things in Rome that is a must see!

The room containing the creation is really something to behold. In general walking around the museum and the areas of the Sistine Chapel you'll spend as much time looking up as you will at items on the walls. It's not an expensive thing to do either and really worth it.

Do this off season, like November. It wasn't busy you could wander round and really enjoy it. It's pretty spectacular, take an audio guide it's worth it for the information. The guided tours can become boring fast and you stand for 15 mins in one location waiting for everyone to catch up. With the audio guides you move at your own pace 👍🏼😊

In a word “Breathtaking”. Regardless of your beliefs, this is a not to be missed place. Pictures do not do this sacred place justice. Even before you enter it’s surreal. One room is better than the other. Once you step inside to the main chapel you are awestruck of the beauty that surrounds. Everywhere you look from the floor to the ceiling you are wowed. It’s beauty is overwhelming. This is a true moving experience that needs to be added to anyone’s bucket list. Unfortunately pictures are not permitted in the main chapel. Very friendly staff. Unfortunately just outside the Vatican is pretty disgusting with litter in the streets as well as the typical graffiti. Pretty surprised and disheartening to see. I would not recommend bringing younger children. They would be bored.

Although you can't take pics of the Chapel, which in fairness is completely understandable, it was a once in a lifetime experience, and I'm delighted I was finally able to see it. The rest of the museums are fantastic and well kept and organised

Very impressive collection of Roman art and antiquities. The museum is much more than the chapel. Advance tickets are a must. Unfortunately the crowds are so dense it makes it hard to stop and enjoy all the wings of the museum. Highly recommend finding a way to visit during off hours or time of the year. I went in late September and it was still jam packed.

What an amazing place to see. U could spend hours upon hours just looking around. There is so much history and so much to see. We did a 3 hour guided tour, and I must say it was a little rushed. I would recommend spending at least a full day or 2 in order to really see and take in everything at the vatican city

Beautiful building with lots of beautiful arts. However a bit difficult to enjoy the place in your own pace as you pretty much have to keep a constant flow throughout the building due to large crowds. Plus you’re not allowed photos in the Sistine chapel area

Went through this place with an audio tour, which helped explain a lot of what we were looking at, but I reckon a proper tour would have worked just as well. Prepare to be on your feet for a while and expect there to be many crowds of people. There are many rooms and MANY things to look at if you go through the museum bits as well. All very much worth it.

My 3rd time here. last time was about 20 years ago and it seems like time has stopped here. I'm not a religious person, but you can feel the divine presence and just take it all in. You can see in your mind the artist laying down on his back and just making history. Love it!

Stunning building. Guided tour was long. We had fast track and still had to queue for a queue to collect tickets. Then queue again inside for headsets. Amd again for a queue to enter the actual building. Very poor set up. Once your in its rammed with tourists and guides. In the Sistine Chapel you literally have such Short period of time. Can't take photos at all and can't talk! No word of a lie, you get told off. I mean it's a must see in Rome but wear flat shoes, don't take massive coats and take water. Book fast track, the queue for tickets was about 600 people deep. Nowhere to purchase anything and no seating at all.

I would recommend a tour guide with this as you get so much more information. I researched and went with Walks as a tour guide. The Roman guy also does tours that are highly.rated. We did the early morning tour to beat the crowds, and on Wednesday you get even fewer crowds as the people are out in St Peters square to meet the Pope. Although because of this, this was the only day you couldn't get through the passage to get to St Peter's Basilica. When we got done with the tour we tried to go to St Peters Basilica, however the line was insanely long. I heard the later in the day you go, the shorter the line, but we had gone around 3pm. You cannot take pics inside the Sistine Chapel so all pics are from the Vatican Museums/ outside of St Peters Basilica.

A cool experience during the winter. Way less people and you’re able to take your time & enjoy the history. Felt surreal at times to see these things in person compared to tv or a book. Would highly recommend going on a guided tour.

Visited as part of a tour of Vatican city , the museums and the Sistine Chapel. There is not talking and no photos inside the Chapel. We booked the tour on the spot and I think it is advisable as its such a vast place. We visited St. Peters Basilica after the tour. It's free to go in there and wasn't part of the tour. We are not religious we just wanted to see it as a part of Romes history. All are welcome.

We definitely recommend you pay for the guided tour experience. Skipping the lines is key as it allows you to look at everything longer and with some expert input too! It's a wonderful experience, just be sure to dress appropriately and wear comfy shoes. Also make sure to pay attention to the signs. They let you know when you can and cannot take pictures.

To get to the Sistine chapel was a long road of tourists shoulder to shoulder. It is extremely crowded and hot in the chapel but it is cool to see. Everybody's ushered into the center like a crowded bus and the preschools of Michelangelo are quite far away. It's a beautiful sight, but there's so many people there it's hard to really be with art and let it envelop you in the quiet sense that you get from other museums

Breathtaking. St Peters Basilica has to be experienced to be comprehend the scale. The wealth of the Church is confronting in some ways too. The map room is brilliant and Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel an amazing feat of achievement. We booked a guided tour many months before.

The chapel is nothing short of magnificent, you could spend days in there and still not see everything there is. None of the pictures are from the chapel, you will not be allowed to photograph it. This was one of the final stops of our 3 hour tour, wear comfortable shoes as it's a LOT of walking.

Totally blown away with the breathtaking paintings and art within the corridors leading to the actual chapel. If you like history and arts this is a master piece of a place. It can get busy and the gardens outside are also remarkable. You can take pics and video leading into the chapel but be warned you will not be able to take pics whilst inside.. totally worth the visit...

This place was nothing short of amazing. These views in each gallery set you back. The chapel is well maintained, and even with the crowds, you never feel overwhelmed. It's even better on the first Sunday of the month because every museum is FREE

We had booked an guided early morning jump the queue tour. It was thoroughly worth it we went on a Monday morning in early February and there was a long queue forming at 7 o'clock. Having a guide to explain what you are looking at picking out diamonds in the collection. There is so much in the Vatican museums it is hard to take in. 3 hour tour I didn't take many photos as I wanted to take it all in. But you could take thousands. The The Sistine chapel is exceptional . Top tip is the ceiling is illuminated for a few seconds by artificial light the experience is worth waiting for.

Experience of a lifetime! I knew that this museum must be good, but I didn't imagine that it would be so interesting. So much history, art...definitely a must-visit if you are interested in those things. Visited 2 weeks ago and the most crowded was, of course, the Sistine chapel, everything the rest was enjoyable without huge crowds. Recommend and definitely would visit again only this time with a guide.

Well worth doing the guided tour. They explain so many hidden details which are easy to miss. The place itself is absolutely stunning. I have seen all the famous paintings on TV and paper, but seeing at them in real life painted on a ceiling is just breath taking. A must do for all visiting Rome!

The single most beautiful building I’ve been in, awe inspiring - totally worth the queue to get in. Never believe the street ticket sellers who say you can’t get a ticket and try to charge you double or even triple. There’s a fast track line if you have pre booked and a queue line to buy a ticket on the day.

A wonderful one-in-a-lifetime experience with beautiful and well-known art collected by the Popes. Paintings, Church art, Egyptian art, beautiful jewelry and so much more. The wall and ceiling paintings are astonishingly beautiful. Finally, a visit to the Sistine Chapel. Very impressive and special to know that this has been realized by the greatest names in art history.

It was a very beautiful piece of history. It is a very long walk to get to the chapel and it was extremely crowded. I know it would add wait time but I think they should have a max amount of people allowed in because we were all elbow to elbow, packed in like Sardines. All the seating was taken around the room as well. It did not give off the feeling of being in a sacred place but rather a commercialized room unfortunately.

I recently visited the Sistine Chapel and found the experience to be captivating. The awe-inspiring artistry of Michelangelo's ceiling is truly a sight to behold. The crowds, however, can be overwhelming. I highly recommend purchasing a skip-the-line ticket to enhance your visit and make the most of your time admiring the masterpieces without the hassle of long queues.

  • 5/5 Colleen 4 months ago on Google
The visit to Vatican City was amazing you are not allowed to take pictures in the Sistine Chapel these are pictures of the other areas before entering the Chapel. So much history to absorb. No matter what your religious or spiritual beliefs are it's definitely worth the visit. One of the first things are tour guides said to us was "Vatican City is not about religion it's about politics." We were with a tour group so we did a skip the line entrance. We went on November 21st so it was not that crowded, you could walk around and enjoy it. Just to see all the paintings in the Sistine Chapel and all the work that went into in a short period of time was truly breathtaking.

The artwork and statues are incredible! The Sistine Chapel is something everyone should see. The storys told by the art is like looking at history. It is a must see if you are visiting Rome. Plan on at least three hours for the full tour. No photos are allowed in the Chapel.

This was the most amazing experience I've ever had. To be able to experience history and my faith all in one spot was an out of this world experience. The sheer beauty of the art, both in the museum and on the ceiling, was something everyone should experience at least once.

  • 5/5 Claire 10 months ago on Google
Incredible workmanship - what more can I say? Building it, painting it, the ornate workmanship. Just the people going though, the hoards there that spoilt it. I would go again but not until the end of September or April.

Unbelievable, there really are no words to explain the experience. A building I grew up learning about in school from pre-k althea way through my theology course work in university. Make Rome a place on your bucket list it is a must. Unfortunately, there are no cameras allowed, so I don't have a picture to share. You will have to take my word for it! 🤔 I have attached some pictures from the Vatican Museum and St. Peter's.... Enjoy 😉

  • 5/5 Lissa G. 1 year ago on Google
Overwhelming is the only word that even come close to explain all that there is to see on the museum tour. It was helpful having a tour guide explain history of some of the pieces as you move through. The Sistine Chapel is an awe inspiring view. No pictures aloud inside there

We booked a 3 hour Vatican museum tour with Sistine chapel and Saint Peters basilica. It was an experience, but not good. Everything we read made it sound like security was tight and needed to be covered. They didn't care what people brought in, I beeped going through the metal detector and no one cared or even glanced at me. There were no breaks for the bathroom or water, bring water or buy when you enter as there is a bathroom when you get in, recommend using it. It is busy and everyone is headed the same way through whichever areas they have deemed to have open at that time. The best way to describe it is imagine when you are leaving a venue like a concert or sports event and everyone is trying to leave and squished through the exits, it is that for 2 hours as you go through the museum. There is no AC either so it is hot! The only place with ac is the lobby when you enter and the Sistine chapel. People were very disrespectful and talked the whole time in the chapel and taking pictures, both of which are not allowed, staff were constantly telling people to stop doing both. Even some of the tour guides were talking. Overall very over rated. Saint Peters basilica was much more impressive and had AC! We were going to go up top but we're too hungry and dehydrated to attempt. I'd say just get skip the line tickets and bring water and snacks and take your time to really get to see stuff, rent audio tour if you want history info, but forget a rushed tour.

Finally, my strong desire, which I thought very simply would never come, happened! I saw this miracle! Ah, it was a massive shock! I think, this is the most magnificent thing that man has ever created on our Earth. This is beyond words. And the Vatican itself is shockingly magnificent with its works of art and its unsurpassed architecture.

  • 5/5 Ruth M. 1 year ago on Google
Absolutely beautiful. The crowds make the experience a little less spiritual, but OMG, it is simply amazing. There are simply so many beautiful paintings, including contemporary or modern art, and the Raffaell rooms just keep giving!

  • 5/5 Sid P. 2 years ago on Google
A truly magnificent place. It's amazing how well the chapel is built, the roof is just glorious and words cannot describe the sheer beauty and grandeur of this chapel. Although I wish it was less touristy and quieter with more seats for people to observe silence and admire the roof.

  • 5/5 shaz f. 2 years ago on Google
So much better without the crowds, a shame you can't take photos.. Some people were and the guards were very good and not too cross! It's an amazing place!

  • 5/5 Julian G. 2 years ago on Google
This place is amazing, there is a reason this is one of the top things to do in Rome and world wide. The views are breath taking and beyond words. The vatican museum has some very nice exhibits BUT be aware that the museum and the sitting chapel experience is quite long of a walk. There is quite a few stairs and small hallways with NO elevator access so if you have a wheel chair or stroller etc you will not be able to make it all the way in. Took tons of photos but I will let you come to experience for your self!

A must. It's a sacred place where the highest expression of Art makes you understand that there must be something more in humanity. We are not only flesh. We tend toward God. At the end we are looking for our creator...

A must see! Sistine Chapel warrants more than one visit. There’s so much to see. So many breath taking views, so much culture compiled into one building and so much to take in, it can become amazingly overwhelming. I recommend getting a tour guide to enhance the experience. It’s unfortunate that many people travel across the world to visit, however are unable to take pictures in the Chapel itself, other than that, it was an amazing experience.

  • 5/5 Priscilla B. 2 years ago on Google
