Save yourself the headache and book at a modern hotel nearby. The rooms are very small. We have a king bed at home and the king bed at this hotel must have been half the size. You can hear EVERYTHING going on outside of your room. Everyone in the hall, two rooms down you could hear people flushing their toilets, taking a shower, talking, using the sink. You could hear people at street level walking by and talking (we were on the third floor). You will absolutely not sleep well at this hotel. If you're interested in its history just walk around the lobby and then go to a modern hotel. They charged us $40 for the valet. The valet was slow both when we got there and when we checked out. They gave us tickets for complimentary drinks. When we tried to use them the bartender told us the coupons would not cover a whole drink. The only thing this place has going for it is its location.

We stayed over new years and had a great experience! The hotel has an incredible history. The rooms and decor were very classy for the rate. The bathroom was older but it didn’t bother us in the least. We could hear the neighbors in the adjoining room but it wasn’t an issue in the evening. A perfect spot right next to the Alamo! Impressed for the price point!

I wasn’t sure if the Menger would live up to my memories as a child, a kind of magical Victorian dollhouse of a hotel. I was worried maybe it had worn out and lost its lustre. Perhaps a tad since its heyday, but overwhelmingly I was so pleased. Our room in the old section overlooking the courtyard was extremely clean and painted a beautiful blue with crisp and on point Victorian draperies. The carpet was in absolute mint condition. So rare at hotels! The historic tiled bathroom had elegant touches, fanned towels, nice soaps, sparkling clean. The pool was heated to a divinely relaxing warm temperature which completely made up for the lack of a spa. It exceeded a spa! I really appreciated that the staff let me quietly soak a tad past pool closing, like REALLY appreciated as I had just put my toddler down for the night and desperately needed a little me time. For a moderately priced hotel, you cannot beat the value or location. My family has enjoyed this hotel for generations and I will be back!

I will give the hotel 5 stars. It was awesome. And the staff was great too. The Valet people were great when we arrived. But when I received my car back, it was covered in bird poop, like really bad. I'm not sure where they parked it, but wow, that was not cool. They could have said something, I know they knew about it. I had to go straight to a car wash to get out off.

Our experience was not good. It is a historic hotel that is not well maintained. It was clean, but the smell was distinctive. Our room key was deactivated everyday of our four day stay. Each day we had to go back to the desk for a new key. Not once were we asked for ID. The temps outside were low, we never got our room temp up over 65. We spoke to maintenance , management and the front desk. We were offered extra blankets and robes. Will not stay here again. The one bright spot was Miles. As a valet, he went above and beyond to provide customer service.

Remember to use ʜoᴛᴇʟʙᴏʟʟʏ.ᴄᴏm when booking your stay. This web site will compare thousands of booking websites and usually will have rates a lot cheaper than others! Thank me later on! This resort is one of the best in this area. I have been staying here for a very long time. If you choose this place you definitely won't regret it. Love the Menger. We’ve been a few times and it’s always fun. It’s very old school which makes it charming. Definitely haunted. Great bar in the lobby and a large dining room for breakfast and dinner. There are many hotels on the river walk, and certainly more modern. This is the place to go if you like history and ambiance.

I’m a singer/songwriter and I had a private concert at the Menger. I had to off-load instruments. The first thing that I observed is that the valet attendant was willing to let me park temporary to offload my equipment. I told him I was working in the hotel for several hours and asked how much it would cost to use valet parking. It was the same price as the parking lots that were much further away! Everyone I worked with at the valet parking was accommodating and very friendly. They were under a lot of pressure and there were a lot of people waiting to park. It was very impressive to see their attitude. I would, especially like to recognize Miles. As far as I could tell, he remembered my name without looking at my parking ticket. I was really surprised. I should’ve hired him on the spot! Great experience!

I love a historic hotel...and I liked this one but here are just a few things... 1. The rooms are a good size - similar to other hotel rooms, but the beds are so small. We were there for an event at the convention center and there were 3 of us...the bed situation was a little challenging. 2. The temperature in the rooms is wacky. It was at least six degrees off. It is late December in Texas (and around 40 degrees), and our friends whose room was in the historic section were freezing and told the heat had not been turned on yet. 3. Our event ended quite a few hours past check out and we were told they could accommodate luggage storage. However, when the time came, we were given the keys to our car and told to put it in the car. I do get it was a busy weekend, but I also didn't feel super great about my luggage being in my car in a parking lot. 4 - Quick and easy walk to the convention center and Riverwalk. Overall, once the construction around the Alamo is complete, I'd give this hotel another go.

We stayed at the Menger Hotel for a conference. The property is beautiful and walkable to everything we wanted to do while in San Antonio. The most impressive part of our stay was the staff. I could not get over the level of service and hospitality each staff member showed us. Marcia, Zara, Eli, Simon and anyone else we ran into during our stay met us with a smile and ready to help at every turn. This is a beautiful historic hotel and we look forward to many more visits.

This place is historic. No doubt. The furniture and the clientele are also historic. The Menger Bar is remarkably over priced, but the service is good. The restaurant has good food but maybe the slowest service I've ever experienced. The "gym" consisted of 2 broken treadmills. But the worst was the smell. They pipe in a smell that is something between potpourri and gasoline. All that said, the staff was delightful and the room was comfortable enough. They trade in this idea of 'historic' and proximity to The Alamo. The place is fine but overpriced. I've got no need to ever go back. But I enjoyed most of the stay

When we arrived at the Menger Hotel we were greeted with exceptional warmth. Xylina was on duty at the check in lobby. She truly went above and beyond to make sure our check in and trip up to our room went smoothly. Xylina was a breath of fresh air after a long train ride. Xylina took care of every small detail. Our whole stay was wonderful and the staff was wonderful also.

Had a wedding here a few years ago and never posted until now. It was awful. The day of the wedding the coordinator was nowhere to be found. I was supposed to have two conference rooms to get ready in and they were locked when I had gotten there. We tried to find the coordinator and called her numerous times with no luck. A couple of housekeepers had come by when they saw me crying my eyes out panicking and those lovely ladies managed to get someone to open the doors for me. When I went in there, the room hadn’t even been cleaned yet. There were napkins and crumbs on the table I was supposed to put all my makeup on. At this point I had maybe an hour to get ready in a dirty room that was not set up for us AT ALL like we had been promised. The coordinator suddenly appeared right before the reception all dolled up and ready to continue being completely useless. To add insult to injury, the food was cold and awful too. It was a really cool historic hotel but I will never set foot in there again and will warn anyone else about the risks of spending thousands on a wedding here. Bless the few employees that did try to help me when it wasn’t even part of their own jobs at all though.

Great location for the price and super friendly staff but it needs a bit of a refurb. There is only so much that can be labeled "antique". The window in my room was very mildewed and the fixtures in the bathroom were rusty. One time the bathroom door wouldn't open for a while also, so I stopped closing it as I didn't want to get trapped. Not to be recommended for those who are light sleepers, the wall are super thing and you can hear the toilet flush in the neighbouring room. The thermostat on the shower was awful and several times I had to jump out to avoid being broiled.

The stay was great. My whole family fit in the room super spacious. We valeted and it was great too. James helped us out. He was a very king young man. Would definitely stay here when we come back.

Great AC! Beautiful view! Excellent pool! The staff were amazing, especially the valet guys, the housekeeper Teresa and finally Mark Garcia at the front desk. Also Nancy the main supervising housekeeper was great to all of us 200+ people staying there. We LOVE this hotel and will return!

I love San Antonio it’s my first time here and it was all great. The hotel was nice and the staff was very friendly. The Valet that helped us was great to his name was James. Would stay again.

This was our first time here and I can say I loved the experience! The history of this hotel and the distance from the Alamo is fascinating! I will come back again. I want to shout out the valet that helped us when we arrived her name is Bel , she was so kind to us !

The good. The hotel had a great vibe to it, almost like a museum, including great art and items from years past. The lobby, hallway, bar, dining area, and other large rooms should be explored. The bad. Front desk clerk and staff looked Miserable. The Concierge if that's what he was, looked completely lost at his computer. Our room was tiny, with a full-sized bed, and not a king or queen. It barely accommodated two adults. The bathroom was even tinier. The room size was roughly 12x14. The pictures online for the rooms were much bigger in the price range we purchased. This was a little deceptive for the price we paid. Air conditioning worked great however, the room was muggy and cool. Has lots of questions before check-in and buyer beware.

I was informed that my reservation was moved to Crockett Hotel because of air conditioning problems. My Son-in-Law has a party that he has scheduled for his Army retirement at the Menger. When we got to our evening event I find out that all of my family was still in air conditioned rooms at the Menger. So I have a double bed in a postage stamp of a room in the secondary hotel not with the people that I haven’t seen in 3 years! They had intended to charge the same amount of the Menger , which is a nicer hotel. Jessie at the Crockett gave me a small discount after I asked what they could do. He told me the style of room I reserved was not available. Needless to say I am VERY dissatisfied. After everyone was so excited for this event, It has put a damper on my stay. I told the desk at the Menger about the room & what had happened & that the rest of my party was very happy in the Menger.& that I was totally disgusted with their choice of giving us a double room instead of the King I had reserved. The Menger desk.personnel politely but said I could tell my felling here. Bottom line is I will choose other properties to stay on my next visit. I worked with the public & it seems a manager or supervisor should have been more helpful!

This was an amazing hotel. Very beautiful, very unique. We had a great time visiting for the first time. Loved the character. I also had the pleasure of meeting April Morales. She is super sweet and very friendly. She made our stay feel so welcoming. Highly recommend. Can't wait to go back

I recently had the pleasure of staying at a hotel where I had the privilege of being served by Jonathan, one of the hotel's valets. I must say that my experience with Jonathan was exceptional, and he went above and beyond to make my stay as comfortable as possible. From the moment I arrived, Jonathan greeted me with a friendly smile and took charge of my luggage. He expertly handled my bags and escorted me to the check-in desk, making sure that the process was smooth and hassle-free. Throughout my stay, Jonathan was always available to help me with any of my needs. He offered great recommendations for local attractions and even helped me secure tickets to some of the most popular shows in the area. When it came time for me to leave, Jonathan was there to assist me once again. He made sure that my luggage was carefully packed and loaded into my car, and he even offered to provide me with directions to my next destination. What impressed me most about Jonathan was his professionalism and his attention to detail. He was always courteous, friendly, and willing to go the extra mile to ensure that my stay was enjoyable. In conclusion, I highly recommend Jonathan to anyone looking for a valet. He is an outstanding professional who takes great pride in his work and provides exceptional customer service. The hotel is lucky to have him on their team, and I look forward to staying there again and being served by Jonathan in the future.

Very cool Historic hotel. We got a super good deal online for a last minute 1 night stay. The hotel is interesting to see and walk around if you like history. It has beautiful rooms and garden. Our room was good. Keep in mind it is a HISTORICAL hotel meaning it is older. The rooms are not huge but they are clean and comfortable. The staff was professional. The only negative to the parking situation is we had a trailer and we are thankful they let us park it in the valet lot, we did get a parking ticket after being told it was ok for us to park there. The valet took care of it thankfully. Parking is paid parking keep in mind. The location is perfect as it’s basically next door to the Alamo and across the street from the River Walk.

This hotel is great if you love old world architecture. They have tried to preserve and done a great job. Service was great and friendly. Rooms were clean and quiet. I would recommend for anyone visiting San Antonio. Walking distance to Alamo and River walk. Also there are great places around to eat.

Staff was very nice throughout the entire property, lobby had a slight odor when we arrived but it was clean. Close to everything and the bar was amazing. My only issues were the shower wasn't draining properly and standing in six inches of water didn't feel good, also the room wasn't cleaned when we returned from 6 flags amusement park. I did call down to the desk and was told they only clean your room upon request??? They did bring up some fresh towels after the call. All in all not a bad place to stay for a few nights.

The Menger is beautiful! The rooms aren’t as big as modern hotels but it’s understandable noting it’s 163 years old and part of the beauty. Definitely recommend the valet parking. Joe was great! There so much history here. And the Alamo was literally right outside our window. The staff was great. It was a little hot for us, and they brought us up a fan and it was perfect after that. Will be returning soon!

We really enjoyed our stay. Our room had a nice view and a truly historic feel to it which we appreciated. All the staff were extremely helpful and attentive including the staff at the Colonial and the valet services. We never waited longer than 5 minutes for our car. April P. was especially helpful when checking out. Overall an amazing stay! We will be back!

What a gorgeous hotel! We stopped by to admire the historic part and enjoyed the whole place. Really wanted to have a drink at the historic bar, but got there a bit too early. Instead we strolled the property and were delighted with the interior balconies, columns, and marble flooring beneath the skylight. Gorgeous hotel. Just beside The Alamo, it's worth a stop!

My team and I did hair/makeup for the bride here this past weekend. We were in one of the rooms downstairs between the valet and the main lobby… The room we stayed in was nice but incredibly hot. The ac wasn’t working properly and we were sweating pretty badly. Didn’t get to see the guest rooms so can’t really share my experience with that. Valet was very helpful… Ashlii was very nice and helpful.
