Came here years ago as a tourist for a weekend getaway. We landed pretty late but the owner was awake and there to greet us when we arrived and he was incredibly nice as well. The minute we stepped in we felt right at home. It was great returning back to a comfortable spot after a long day out in the city. I can't wait to return.

This Bed and Breakfast is what every other Bed and Breakfast in the world aspires to be. Every detail is perfect. The room is clean, quiet, with everything you need for comfort. The breakfast is impeccable, delicious, fresh with tasty coffee. The people who take care of this place are solid and take pride in being an integral part of the SF service industry. Thanks Monte Cristo, I'll be coming back again and again.

The rooms are super clean and beautiful. The food was very nice . The location is great and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Jack was especially great! I can definitely understand their popularity. I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else.

We stayed at the end of a 10 day vacation, and this gem was definitely a highlight. Impeccable, personalized service. Amazing gluten free options, even at the snack table, offered to accommodate everyone. I wish we could have stayed longer but they were fully booked and I completely understand why.

The only word I can use to describe this place is “exquisite”. Every detail has been taken into consideration from the beautiful design of the rooms to the quality and comfort of everything in it, the beds, the bedsheets and the bathrooms are just a luxury. The location is perfect, quiet area very walkable and parking is not an issue, we always found a safe spot to park on the streets close to it. Frank is a great host that definitely knows his business. I would definitely want to stay here if I had to visit San Francisco again.

We had a lovely stay here on our visit to San Francisco. True bed and breakfast hospitality and charm we don’t see often in an AirBnB world. The room was beautiful with a luxurious bathroom, the food delicious and Jack, our host was kind, accommodating and made us feel right at home. This is certainly a place we would recommend to anyone and be happy to stay again when we return to the city. I’d give 10 stars if I could!

Had a wonderful stay here! The rooms were beautiful and comfortable. The staff was friendly. The breakfast was delicious. They also had very thoughtful amenities, like homemade snacks. Would definitely stay here again!

One week ago today, after a 10-day stay, we checked out of the Monte Cristo Bed & Breakfast, such a charming gem of a place in a lovely neighborhood. What a wonderful stay! The owner, Jack, immediately made us feel right at home, greeting us at the door when we arrived from the airport. His kindness, upbeat personality & sense of humor made our stay perfect. It’s obvious he loves what he’s doing! Our lovely decorated room was very clean, as was the entire Inn, & the bed was very comfortable. Our room was street-side, but you would never know it. Hardly any traffic sounds day or night. The bathroom was very modern & beautifully decorated. Breakfast, served in their quaint little dining room, was delicious every morning. Also in the dining room, there is “the best coffee ever”, tea, hot chocolate, water, delicious homemade cookies, fresh fruit, chocolates, trail mix, all of which are available around the clock for you to help yourself to. Next to the dining room is a lovely sitting room with a TV, fireplace, magazines, books, newspapers & very comfy seating. Monte Cristo is definitely our Inn of choice for all our future visits to San Francisco. Thanks again Jack, you're the best!

This place exceeded my expectations. I booked it solely based on location, which was great for my needs. Instead of just a place to sleep in during my quick stay in SF, I found an exceptionally clean, charming and warm boutique inn. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They make your breakfast from scratch and even bake delicious almond cookies right there! I highly recommend it. I booked a slightly bigger room and it was very comfortable. Thank you!

Great stay. Comfortable bed, modern bathrooms, windows are double panel so it was surprisingly quiet being right next to the street. Friendly staff and right in the heart of the city. Highly recommend staying here, for a comfortable stay. The room is small however but there is common space to read, eat or hang out prior to departing on adventures. 5/5 stars from me.

The staff and service was excellent. They were courteous and very kind. The breakfast and refreshments etc was impeccable. A big thank you to Dear Matilda….. she made such tasty breakfast for us… she was kind and helpful and lovely and she made delicious scrambled eggs. This review comes very late as we stayed there in December 2019… better late than never💝

We stayed here for about 3 nights and had a fantastic stay! The inside was beautiful with charming decor. The first floor has a nice dining and reading area. Breakfast was delicious and had both in person dining and in room dining options. The rooms were spacious, comfortable, and quite. The staff was attentive and kind! Location is great as it's in a quiet area and is close to the Presidio and Golden Gate park. I'd stay here again and would recommend to others.

Everything about my stay was a delight. From the friendly service, the excellent communication, the most comfortable bed, the heated towel racks, the great dinner recommendations, and the cook to order breakfast. I would come back in a heartbeat!

Monte Rio is going to be my new go-to accommodations when in SF. It’s the perfect place for adult guests who appreciate architecture, history, charm, quiet, cleanliness, convenience, safety, and little touches of luxury without being over the top. I very much appreciated the homemade breakfast, common LR, and tastefully decorated and carefully appointed rooms. Look forward to coming back! In recent years I’ve used Airbnb accommodations and been incredibly disappointed with the condition of properties upon arrival and poor customer service by hosts when problems arise. Monte Rio was my first non-Airbnb book in many years. Zero disappointments at Monte Rio! A very nice introduction back into the hotel and inn community.
