I know there are staffing problems, but management doesn't seem to take customers in consideration. The food quality, variety and pricing is fine, but customer assistance is not available. The shopping cart fiasco is a good example. I get it, they lost all their shopping carts and that's not their fault. It would only take a minute to develop a communication plan. They everyone wandering the parking lot for carts that weren't there. So all of us wandered to the entrance and the security guards were just wandering around. If they couldn't keep the carts from being stolen, at least they could've let us know what was going on. Put up a notice, tell your staff what is going on and develop a plan. They really made their customers feel abandoned. Corporate needs to train their managers better.

This place is more an asylum than a shopping center. Disturbed and dangerous people screaming, shouting, delusional and violent...almost every time you go. Theft is so bad in the Safeway they have virtually no shopping carts... and the same with hand baskets! What's the point?

Giving 4 stars for the cleanliness and for good selection of products. Missing one star because there was only one cashier and the self-service line was ridiculous long.

  • 2/5 Ham B. 1 year ago on Google
Two stars because I feel the employees are doing their best. Despite being in a tough situation, when I visited it was clean and well stocked. I did not see many employees, and the lines were absurdly long. I wouldn't recommend this one who is vulnerable and/or alone. As some comments mentioned, theft is an issue. As is aggressive pan handling outside. The parking lot is free but lately has had some reported issues of violence. I hope the situation changes soon.

This Safeway has a decent selection of plastic-free fruit and veg, and a good variety of plant-based foods.

To much theft as a problem for me I want to shop not be look st like in apart of the theft there cause it's like everyone is there to steal. But the few people who actually pay for there food..I get it but I DONT ENCOURAGE IT NOR WANT TO BE AROUND IT!!

Pretty cool people, there were a lot of homeless but they were nice and the businesses treated them with respect, in so did the patrons.

I've been shopping at Safeway for years. It's a convenient location that offers a great selection of quality products. The prices are competitive and the customer service is always great. I appreciate their fuel rewards program and the fact that I can combine it with other digital coupons for extra savings. The store is always well stocked and the staff is friendly. It's always a pleasure to shop here and I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a convenient and quality grocery store.

A great deal of the items were out of stock; and when I expressed my interest regarding the use of their restroom on two separate😳 occasions, BOTH times I was told that it was closed... 🤔 Hmmm❓

I'm very much over the Safeway perpetually changing their hours. They have been open to midnight for a long time and I got there at 11:15 a few days ago and now they're closed at 11:00. Stop changing your hours without changing them on the website

Good and bad. But, mostly it's a good place with decent shops. As usual in San Francisco, it's the human factor that is left wanting.

I was Soo obviously being tracked as I tried to remember what I came shopping for, that I had to use a metaphor to describe the severity of scrutiny as "Belligerently Overt"! I felt like I was gonna be kidnapped in the middle of early evening shopping how I was being Soo rudely stalked around by 3 separate security guards and 2 ukn women employees, as well as two middle aged males whom I assumed were of senior leadership. I mean I was too embarrassed to simply walk out and say № fμ¢K»¥Ωμ, and my hands shook in anticipation of the climax as I entered the access code into the kiosk keypad for completion

Safeway has done a nice remodel. Clean store. XFINITY as well as T-mobile store locations and one of the last few remaining. Noah’s Bagels. Check it out.

Truly one of my favorite places to shop friends and family accompany me and the atmosphere has got a lot safer and better due to more efficient security and patrolling which I think is very important these days in beautiful Progressive San Francisco!

I was accused of shoplifting by the Asian S.O. and forced to show him the contents of my box which I use as a shopping bag because it's reusable and saves trees , I don't have a 25cents to pay for a bag from Safeway every time I shop there. So i says sure and let him, then he asks to see the contents of my back back. That's when I simply stated that I was homeless and everything , I own in this world is in my backpack, which I never took off the whole time I was in the store. And hell NO , he could not search through my backpack. If he did actually think that I was shoplifting , then he could check the surveillance cameras, and leave me be! Stop harassing me , I'm not a young teenage female that you caught and want in the back room. Fool! Leave me alone. That's all that I expressed.

It was great. If you go there and want the best salt water taffy ever, get the “ Orthodox Chews” authentic San Francisco salt water taffy. It is so good and not easy to find.

  • 2/5 Sidney J. 1 year ago on Google
The area is a bit sketchy most toiletry products were in a case that you had to call a clerk. The also had security at the door. Which is never a good sign for a grocery store.

  • 5/5 Pamela L. 11 months ago on Google
There's a Safeway, Peet's Coffee, Starbucks inside of Safeway, AAA, Ross, 24 hour Finess, Boston Market, and Petco. Parking is ample.

  • 4/5 Riley S. 11 months ago on Google
Didn't spend much time here but it looks like a cool little shopping center and I plan on coming back to visit some of the stores I just now discovered. Only negative is the crazy parking lot which you would totally expect in San Francisco.

  • 4/5 Linero Random V. 10 months ago on Google
This Safeway is not the absolute best of the many locations they have here in San Francisco, but for me it does come pretty close... I like the large parking lot with underground parking available as well. This location is well staffed and the lines usually aren't terribly long, shelves are well stocked, and the store is on the large side as far as Safeway goes, the bathroom is available for use (with a code). I give this location an extra star on top of Safeway's expected 3 star experience I would expect in SF

It's become a decent store, ever sense the started the first major upgrade a few months back, they have kept the "snowballing" momentum positive, and really changed for the better

  • 5/5 Cynthia E. 10 months ago on Google
Good selection of stores... very, very big Safeway, Ross, Petco, Peet's, Jamba, etc. Lots of parking and above and below ground. Parking lot is busy. Be careful on entry and exit from parking lot to 16th. On busline.

  • 2/5 Amelia M. 1 year ago on Google
I would really appreciate it if this location would continue to stock the Talenti southern butter pecan Gelato, the Ben and Jerry's strawberry cheesecake ice cream and the Häagen-Dazs white chocolate raspberry ice cream. I come here often and these items have been stocked previously but now it's slim to none. Thank you

Other than Safeway (their longest tenant) this place is a revolving door for businesses. It's gotten significantly worse with the homeless issue that is prolific in this part of town, Safeway sadly has had to make multiple security changes throughout the years because there is so much shoplifting at that location. Ross only allows a certain number of people inside at a time to help stem shoplifting as well. It also definitely needs to be updated.

Big box supermarket. I prefer shopping smaller grocers and Costco. I shop here mostly for things I forgot or if I need an ingredient for a recipe. Don't get me wrong. It's a good store with well trained and friendly personnel. Very clean. Fruits and vegetables are fresh as are the meats.

  • 4/5 Matthew M. 6 months ago on Google
There is always a bum or two near the entrance and always an irritated looking armed guard inside by the door. Despite the small shantitown made of cardboard choking the exits of the parking gatage and all the mystery stains. and the one time a possible series killer bought me peanut butter in an attempt to woo me and sat in my truck praying for strength from Jesus not to touch me... I love this Safeway and part of town. It's probably my favorite

  • 5/5 Rio S. 5 months ago on Google
This safeway makes shopping uncomfortable. The only Safeway that has more security than the San Quentin prison. For safety purposes, I suggest that people shop here during the day.

  • 1/5 Ivailo A. 7 months ago on Google
I feel sorry for the people who work at this Safeway location. At the Sandwich station and hot grill items expect to wait. There seems to always be a lack of staff. Frequented by local homeless.

  • 1/5 Dani M. 6 months ago on Google
I have never in my life been treated so horribly by a short and obviously mentally challenged security officer whom went as far as yanking my reusibleshopping bag of my arm and taking my purchased items from me even when the checker was telling him I payed he said I probably paid with a stolen card and actually bullied out of store. I made the mistake thinking it would blow over but wrong.... I was not even allowed to pay for my things. I will never give them another dime

  • 1/5 Rosemary S. 6 months ago on Google
INCREDIBLY RUDE African American self checkout attendant. I am a very frequent buyer at this location and have NEVER been so humiliated or felt so immensely belittled as I did the day she accused me of theft simply for forgetting to scan 1 item that I offered to pay for! She insisted that I knew I was stealing and that I no longer had the opportunity to purchase anything. I don't think I'll be going back anymore, she needs an attitude check.

I hat having to come here for groceries. Use to love it but now you can barely find a cart, the lines are insane, and there is just to much going on in the parking lots. I try not to go to this Safeway unless I absolutely have to.

  • 3/5 cirilo m. 2 years ago on Google
the two major issues with this Safeway is that they don't let you take out the shopping carts due to prior thefts from homeless people and the other most staff are rude and refuse to assist when you need them. I say this because I'm disabled and is hard for me to do my shopping and not be able to get help or be able to push my groceries to my car cause of it.

I run away from the idea of green juices but Jamba juice makes everything taste good. And our 5 yo didn't want to leave any for us. Always order for everyone :)

Not the best mall. But the fact that it is in SF and it has a lot of interesting people, seems to propel it to my list of "must go malls" I love the food court on the ground floor and the fifth floor with the day spa (cannot wait to try it).

  • 3/5 Leonard M. 2 years ago on Google
Plenty of offerings here, but I found many stores overpriced. The mall also seemed slightly deserted for a saturday. Nordstroms and Bloomingdales are the highlights. Its off Market St, so be aware that there are many homeless outside, which can be a slight bummer for shopping.

  • 2/5 Shandiin B. 2 years ago on Google
It was my first time ordering a meal and the woman who was at the counter was extremely rude??? I don't know why, the dining room was empty, I wasn't being rude...it's anyone's guess. Boston Market is salty, literally and figuratively.

Good location 24 hour fitness. They also have a Ross and the Safeway is open late.

  • 5/5 Christina McGold (. 2 years ago on Google
Plenty of parking..I went to AAA! DMV ,auto insurance and Nany Garcia , best lady Ever, on my team! There is also a Ross, Smash Burgers...they all come in doubles..and some other things. Best is ease of location and a premium parking lot..rare for sf. But, avoiding the DMV..WELL..that's just amazing!

  • 4/5 Monica T. 2 years ago on Google
Safeway in general is pretty uniform across the board and because of the area I can understand why the liquor was locked up. But I waited a loooong time before someone appeared and that was annoying. Not to mention they waited til I got to the counter where the cashier had to LEAVE to go grab it adding time to my visit. Other than that, the price was greatly discounted and the store appearance was clean and neat

  • 5/5 William H. 2 years ago on Google
Always busy. Great big safeway a Petco and a Ross! One of the better Ross stores Ihave been to. There's a McDonald's across the street that always seems to be a disaster! Last time I went there was Aman profusely bleeding in line needless to say I skipped the Happy meal... an Oreillys auto parts where I paid a crazy amount for a car battery. This shopping center could use an upgrade but will never happen. If you don't need to go skip it.

It was okay shopped at Safeway. During my time the power went out we had to leave early around 4:30pm. Safeway had lots of sales and lines were decent. Wanted to shop at Jamba and Ross no luck. Hopefully when I go back it's all good. Free parking, sunny weather, good location for just walking your dog in the area. Happy Shopping 🙂

Excellent produce and friendly staff. I enjoy that store and it's location... it also has a Starbucks that offers in doors seating! Oh and Wells Fargo is available for your spur of the moment banking services.

  • 5/5 Garrick W. 2 years ago on Google
Nice size Safeway for this part of the city. Always forget it's there, tucked away on 16th. I think it's better than Foods Co. Foods Co. You save by buying lower quality items. Safeway you save with selection and bigger quantity items.

  • 4/5 keo 1 year ago on Google
Plenty of parking. Just make sure to hide your personal belongings or take them with you. Homeless panhandling. Decent Restaurants. Safeway for your grocery needs . Chase Bank and Wells Fargo for your banking.

Terrible! I went to have my normal work out this morning and found myself and others waiting in front of 24 hrs fitness. I got there at 6am, this gym is supposed to be open at 5am. I choose this location because of the parking...because if I had selected on cleanliness it wouldn't be a rating. 24hr fitness you are expensive and i would like quality to go long with the price I pay. Please be mindful it is plenty other gyms we consumers can patronize, make this worth our while and at least be on time to open up!

  • 1/5 NOT A. 1 year ago on Google
The line here is terrible there's always only two check stands open. Do not shop at the Safeway always only two check stands open horribly long wait so check out cannot be used for doordash so you have to wait horribly long for the two check stands that are open well you just watch everyone else steal food or roll around in wheelchairs pulling luggage filled with stolen wine and all kinds of goodies from the store.

The only reason I go to Potrero Center is Safeway and, rarely, Peet's Coffee. Shoplifting is apparently rampant at Safeway and the security guards are ineffectual, looking the other way as people who haven't paid pass by them with loaded shopping carts. A lot of scary folks are constantly hanging out at the center. Car break-ins are a risk, particularly in the dimly lit underground parking level. Eventually, that entire block will be replaced by residential units and street level stores. That transformation cannot happen soon enough.

  • 5/5 Saharah F. 1 year ago on Google
ADA ACCESSIBLE. GOOD PARKING. GOOD SHOPS TO CHOOSE FROM. BANK & AAA. RESTAURANTS. COFFEE, JAMBA. PER STORE GROCERIES. ROSS. PUBLIC TRANSIT CLOSE BY.

  • 1/5 Michael M. 1 year ago on Google
Unsafe and rampant property crime. Avoid if possible. If driving you must be aware of the homeless/unshelterd persons that sit and lay down in the path of cars at the entrance/exits.

  • 4/5 Oksana P. 1 year ago on Google
Everything about this shopping center is very nice and clean and most of the staff are very friendly and helpful except for a couple of the late night parking garage security. If I could just give them a rating it would be a one star but I go here regularly and everything else is great.

  • 3/5 Eva M. 1 year ago on Google
Daiso is gone, the Ross is sub par but the Safeway is okay. PetSmart or Petco (I can't remember which is there) has a really good selection but they're overpriced. I shopped there a lot when I first adopted Jake, but as he got older I discovered thriftier places for food, toys, etc. I only hit that shopping center because I was already in the neighborhood.

  • 3/5 Mike R. 1 year ago on Google
Lots of parking above and below and lots of sketchy folks about making parking uncomfortable especially in the lower level garage. I expect crime is a big problem here whether theft from people/cars or other transactions going on in the dark.

  • 5/5 Zay let me k. 1 year ago on Google
They have good deals but the Asian women in charge of the hot food and deli can't speak any English and will get mad and raise their voices if you can't understand them just to let you know

This little shopping center has a lot going on. O’Reilly’s auto parts, Safeway, Ross, Petco, SmashBurger, Bank, and a couple others. I seem to end up here multiple times a week.

They be doin too much at Safeway why do security act like police. They never see ppl who steal but they watch you like a hawk

  • 3/5 Mark P. 1 year ago on Google
This Safeway isn't the craziest I've shopped at...but there's always a little chaos and a little uncertainty as to what customer tussle is going to occur inside or outside the store. But hey, it is still safeway with good food and good prices. I'd complain im not a fan of the Self checkout that is used here but that seems futile.

  • 5/5 William M. 1 year ago on Google
This is an awesome friendly inviting atmosphere to purchase a delicious sandwich at a reasonable price but I am bias because I simply like Togos so come on by an try it for yourself just a thought

  • 3/5 Rose R. 1 year ago on Google
Good place to do shopping but it's scary & sad as there are lots of homeless people roaming around outside and also inside. So people be careful when you go here!
