We read about this cool bar, and I am very happy that we did. We were a party of 3, it was Saturday night, and it was our first time going into this establishment. I was a bit confused at first when we arrived as to how we were to go about ordering drinks. After we found a table, we sat down and watched. We figured out it is a help yourself to a menu and go up to the bar to order your drinks. I ordered the Ava Gardner cocktail because I am very adventurous, and it sounded pretty bomb. All of the ingredients were things that I just really could not imagine going together, but let me tell you they all sure did, and I was extremely pleased with the outcome. We each ordered different cocktails so we could all try a sip of each other's because that is what you do, right? The establishment is very cool to look at inside; we honestly looked around for probably at least 10 minutes before even getting into the sitting area, lots of documents to read, quite informative to say to least. You can be more educated by going to this place; I can guarantee it! Make sure to check this place out. I will surely be back to visit here the next time I am in San Francisco!

Very cool cocktail bar at the very corner of 3rd and Market, super easy access with public transport. The cocktails were great, staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Because of its location do expect a very office-like/techy vibe. You can make reservations for larger groups as well.

Local Edition has some cool underground newsroom vibes, a handful of pretty solid cocktails, and great service. Ample comfortable seating and live music complete the picture.

1st timer! I'll for sure go back every time I'm back in SF. Great dark ambiance, velvet-y feel, with great jazz! Craft cocktails did not disappoint!

Excellent food joint in San Francisco Downtown California USA. Actually went to watch Chinese New Year Parade. Since the event was for more than 2 hours, went in between to have some grub to this place. Had Veggie Puzza and Garlic bread. Birth eye simply superb, awesome and tasty.

Loved the drinks, the vibe, and really lucked out with latine live music! The noise level was loud and energetic and still our waitresses managed to recommend great drinks and make friendly conversations. The best nightcap in town!

This place is cool as hell. You may blow right by it because the front is very unassuming. Once you turn the corner and head downstairs though, you find yourself in darkly lit underground which has a nice moody feel to it. The drinks were pricey (on par with the average price of SF) but were excellent. No food options, but there is plenty of other fare nearby. The live music is a nice touch even if you dont dig jazz. It's been so long since Ive found a place that has anything live that I found myself just happy for the entertainment even if the music isnt my particular cup. It's quirky, it's niche, and it is a lotta fun.

What a great happy hour spot! Good drinks and amazing atmosphere! It has a speakeasy feel and they have live jazz at times. I highly recommend checking Local Edition out and if you're an Old Fashioned fan, you should try the namesake.

Consistently awesome cocktails from any of the bartenders--they take their craft seriously here--and has always hosted jazz/swing bands (with space to dance) weekly (right now only Fridays). Cavernous underground space has red velvet posh decor and various configurations of tables with stools, chairs, and comfy benches, so can get comfortable with your drink; generally not too loud to talk without shouting even when band is playing. Big wine list I've never tried; usually only 4 bottled beers no draught.

I liked the cocktail Ava garden with jasmine tea infused vodka, coconut milk, ginger, hint of basil, and bitters. We arrived around 8pm on a Saturday and there were a few tables free but the place got filled as the night went on. The Long Goodbye has apricot and passion fruit but tasted mostly like apricot. Music is not too loud. Would go back here if it’s not crowded.

Very cool speak easy. We were visiting from out of town and randomly walked into this one. They had a bunch of reserved tables but they were able to accommodate us even though we were a large group. Great ambience and very cool live music and performers. It felt like we were transported to a different era. I can't remember which drinks we ordered but they were tasty. If you like a speak easy vibe, try this place out.

Cool speakeasy in the heart of downtown SF, right on Market street. Nice ambiance and good drinks at the bar, with a good selection of whiskey and house cocktails. They have a small dance floor as well. Cool place to stop by to chill and have some good drinks.

Cavernous cocktail bar. The owners are trying really hard to make it have an intimate, feel with many Halloween decorations and good lighting. The live music was a great touch. Unfortunately, it was pretty empty. Even when it was very empty we still had to go to the bar for our drinks. Seems like they could up the service and make it a better experience especially for the price.

Local Edition looks like an absolutely amazing speakeasy hidden below the streets of San Francisco. Walking downstairs, the ambience is absolutely amazing. It feels like you are in a huge cavern underneath the city. It is well hidden and well decorated. I loved the theme and ambiance… until the band played. The acoustics really help off key instruments travel in a not so fabulous way. It also makes it impossible to hear anyone at your table. Having a singer and light band might set a more reasonable tone to be able to have a date or meet friends.

I'm a huge fan of awesome bars that are a little secret semicolon it makes me feel special. This place definitely qualifies! The drinks are awesome, the atmosphere is awesome, and it's just hidden enough that you feel like you're being let in on a secret. A great place to get a drink!

We absolutely loved Local Edition! The ambiance was so amazing, and the decor was so cute. The waitress was very nice and helpful, and she helped us pick some delicious cocktails. We had a couple rounds, and each drink was better than the last! We will definitely be back.

Such an amazing vibe in this hidden gem. Was visiting with my friend and this was the highlight of our trip. Every drink we tried was amazing, and we absolutely loved all the high-class vintage feel of the place. The place is surrounded by vintage typewriters, and the low light ambiance was perfectly paired.

Absolutely awful experience during following a visit (with 3 work colleagues) to Local Edition San Francisco. Lovely evening. Though asked for card on way in. Told chap at door we'd be paying with cash. He said that wasn't a problem. We had 2 drinks each - came to ~$99. Waitress came will cheque / bill and we stressed we were paying by cash. She said no problem. We put down $110 (to include a tip) - she again said no problem, gave me my card and we left. Checking my bank statement a couple of weeks later - my card had been charged!! After paying with cash. An exchange of emails with Local Edition of could expecting the money back. Not a chance - even sent me a copy of the receipt/bill/cheque with an awful attempt to copy my signature and cover it with hearts!!! I did not sign anything. Refused to refund me - argued no reason to do so. Outraged!! How can this kind of thing happen!!! Even tried telling me that I should have checked my bank statement before leaving so they could have then (and only then) fixed it!! How many of us do this or indeed have to do it - when assured card not charged, not signed (though someone did - awful) for anything and paid in cash. Avoid this place - terrible experience and won't even reply to my emails any more. Must be struggling if you need to charge customers twice. Even had audacity to ask (in last email) if I had a good experience apart from this!!! Speechless. Um - we did - bit everything after = bad memories. Phil M & colleagues (visiting from UK)

Great vibe, but no Red Bull, no Diet Coke… not that was what I wanted, but our group would’ve liked those in their drinks. Got their “Local Old fashioned” and it was mellow and tasty.

Oh what a fun, fun place on a Friday night! Lovely crowd, great space, hard to find seating but lots of space to stand and lots of furniture you can stand by and keep your belongings on. Friday night features live music and dancing and we had a great time! The cocktails are always incredible, my favorite was Cynthia's Pearl, I forget the ingredients because was already tipsy from our prior stopover at Bourbon and Branch, so hope they maintain the names of these cocktails so can come back for this! There are tables away from music and dancing too, where small and large groups can sit and talk comfortably while enjoying the vibe. Just amazing! Highly recommend!

Pretty great drinks, bartenders are super knowledgeable and the atmosphere is nice. Sometimes if you are lucky you can catch live music as well though unfortunately each time I have come has been a bit too late for that. Having visited a number of places in the doentown area, can be a bit on the higher side when it comes to price but you can only expect so much right in the downtown area. Had a lot of fun dropping in here! Thanks to the workers here enjoyed my experience much.

Atmosphere was 5 stars… very cool, vibey and fun. Atmosphere is speakeasy, music was not… except while the live band was playing. Every bartender was drunk and I had to return my drinks because we ordered something off the menu but received Gin and Tonic. Original bartender we went to was slurring, tripping over things and throwing ingredients all over the bar and not in the drinks themselves. Also watched him break a glass. The second bartender wasn’t much better. She doubled up on the juice in the cocktail, so it wasn’t the proper balance…. She was drunk as she did it too. While I was there I saw at least 7 drinks get sent back… This is a bar with a cool atmosphere. Not a speakeasy and not worth it…. Unless you enjoy overpriced cocktails with drunk bartenders and no mixologists.

Live music, busy spot, bar service, walk down the stairs. Typewriters and papers are cool upon walking in.

Great cocktail bar with live music occasionally. They have creative drinks on the menu. Decor is retro and cool. Crowd is pretty cool and the speakeasy vibe is kind of unique. Great place to meet friends or hang out.
