There were bed bugs in my room, so I was changed to a different room. Although we were changed to a different room, our belongings have also been on the bed which increased the chances of my belongings containing bed bugs. So I talked to Melody, the manager, and she was not helpful at all. She told us to “just take a shower” very rudely. The whole interaction was very rude from her and very unhelpful. When I asked if I can get some type of reimbursement for being checked into a room with bed bugs and causing my belongings to potentially be infested with them, she avoided the question and pretty much said that we don’t have to worry about anything since they changed us to a different room. I kept asking about the possibility of my belongings being infected and that I am unhappy and worried about this, she kept saying not to worry because they did more than enough for me. Although the manager was very uncaring and rude, the receptionist was a very helpful person. He was very worried about the situation and rushed to get us a new room.

Just booked a night at this hotel online and immediately realized the date was set for the next day. Whoops! No big deal, I'll just call them and re-schedule, right? WRONG! I tried calling three different times and left messages (they never called back). When I finally got ahold of them, they told me it is against their policy to refund. I asked them if they could help me reschedule for my intended stay and credit the amount they just received. The desk clerk got sassy with me, real quick, offered me a "box of tissues" and hung up the phone. I've honestly never had someone be so rude to me on the phone. I'm out $180 for an honest mistake and they were not able to help in any way. Is this the right way to treat people? You be the judge...

Worst hotel experience I have ever had. The room was INFESTED by cockroaches. We found them crawling over all of our things when we got back to the room in the middle of the night and we had to quickly pack up and leave at 3 AM, because of how unsanitary the conditions were. The sheets were stained and had holes. Management is incredibly unprofessional. And there is no one at the desk to even help you after hours. Absolutely anywhere would be better to stay at than here. They completely ruined our trip.

Cockroach Infested! At night cockroaches started coming out of the cracks in the ground. There's no a/c and they had bugs in the bathroom with windows missing screens. They also charged my credit card extra fees and said that Expedia gave me the wrong rate. Be aware and stay away! They never gave me a receipt or invoice for any of the fees and you have to check-in at a different hotel.

Made a mistake the moment we pulled in. The motel has become a makeshift homeless encampment. We were able to move to the hotel next door which appears to be under the same ownership. Are sleep boys awakened each night by loud visitors ringing theDesk bell. Although the staff was nice, they were difficult to find as the place seemed understaffed.

Needs updating and cleaning! Stayed 1 night this past Saturday. First, there was no one working the office, so had to go next door to sister hotel to checkin. got to the room and it had a Bates motel key with very little security. Opened the door and realized that the shutters were broken in room 103 and no way to keep people walking by from seeing in the room. looks like handyman just put 2 wrong hinges on the shutter versus properly fixing it. Floors were dirty, hair on the bed, broken tissue paper holder, mismatched towels, stain on towels and sheets. beds looked clean, but with hair and stuff gave us a bad vibe. With how valuable these properties are right on the beach, you think the owner would invest some money into remodeling and making it look nicer. It's marginal if you just need a place to crash for 1 night and your too tired to inspect everything, but I wouldn't stay here more than 1 day as a crash pad. Convenient and right on the beach, but owner hasn't a clue how to run a proper hotel/motel.

Ala Mar by the Sea gives you THE BEST "on the beach" experience altogether. From the inside it was like being in one of those cozy cabins up on Pine Mountain off of the Interstate 5 in California 🌄...BUT! when you look out the wide view windows or sit out on the balcony, you see the Pacific Ocean and the Santa Barbara CA pier off of State street and Cabrillo Blvd. 🌅 The Women's Task Force day & night care organization gives this place the much earned Royal Crown 👑❣️

I’m laughing because that’s the only way to respond to how gross this place was. I stayed 1 night out of my 5 night stay. The first night, I came in from traveling all day. I went to take a shower and realized the bottoms of my feet were black from walking around the room for five minutes. There was hair all over the sink and grime everywhere. The door was flimsy and the bed was so uncomfortable. I couldn’t recommend this place less.

Really great location. Rooms aren't that bad. I don't know why they don't fix them up. Wouldn't take much.....There's no front desk person so you walk to the hotel down the block, same place for complimentary breakfast, ran out of most food and coffee at 9AM. On a Sunday at 9AM. No biggy tho. Had a decent stay. The Ala Mar has a great balcony with a wonderful view. We went up to watch the sunset & there were 2 guys, non guests being loud and belligerent so we left. No biggy tho. Might go back. Might not. 😀

Love this place! Directly across the street from the beach. Super quick walk to State St, Pier, restaurants and duh, beach. Friendly staff. Nice roof top lounge spot. Off street safe free parking. My new spot to visit my UCSB kid 🤙🏻

I’ve stayed here numerous times. Never had a bad experience. Very friendly at the front desk and the rooms are fair priced and nice. Can’t beat the location. Beach right across the street. Great restaurants nearby and only a block from state street. I will be sure to come back

The cheapest hotel I could find on the beach and then I understood why. The office was closed and being renovated so we had to go to the property next door to check in and out. The bathroom was gross. Why is there a random bean on the floor? The toilet was not secured and would move so you could see the gross rusty stains underneath. There were several waterbugs/cockroaches in the bathroom and room. The whole building was old and run down. The door had been kicked in at some point and poorly repaired. Had to sleep with windows open because there wasn't any ac. But the screens immediately fell off when you opened the windows. Felt very unsafe and exposed. At least there was a screen there. There wasn't one on the bathroom window. The walkway on the second floor felt like it was ready to collapse because it wasn't level and anyone who walked on it could be felt along the whole second floor.

Booking was easy and pleasant. Everyone was very nice and accommodating. The 20 steps from front door to beach I would have never guessed could be had at the $$ of the room. Perfect getaway for my wife and I. Walking distance to everything! Room was neat, clean and had a huge fridge and microwave. Happy hour was a great addition and unexpected. We will be definitely be back.

ROACHES!!!!!! So many roaches. They crawled on us while we slept! The room was not clean. Globs of hair still in the shower and old food in the fridge. The walls are paper thin and you can hear EVERYTHING. The location was the only good thing about about this place. I do not recommend. SAVE YOUR MONEY!

Simple place with a retro vibe, amazing location right opposite the beach. Best location in Santa Barbara hands-down. OK it's not the Hyatt but with the right attitude this place is great. Our room was clean and comfortable with the most incredible uninterrupted ocean view. Nice big terrace overlooking the wharf and beach to enjoy cocktails. Happy hour and breakfast at the Villa Rosa next door, what's not to love about that? This was our second stay, really chill relaxing couple of days at the beach. We'll be back, thanks!

The place had a lovely historic feel, the room was immaculately decorated, and I had a great view of the ocean. The staff were incredibly kind and went out of their way to be helpful (especially the kind lady who checked me on and had snake print heels), and it was a wonderfully affordable price for being right next to the ocean.

Location, location, location!...to be honest I picked this Motel for location and price. But it was a weird experience. You have to check in in Villa Rosa, in the same block, so I hear they manage the 4 properties around, (VR have the pool and breakfast), I didn't mind but, NO A/C, and I knew it, I love to scroll the reviews, I rather know in advance, than to be surprised. If you are willing to pay a few hundred more just to sleep, well, book somewhere else. The wharf, park, the trolley, the beach and some restaurants are a few minutes walk, free simple continental breakfast and free parking lot.

Booked a room for 5 nights. When we arrived at 10pm, there was no one at the front desk, and the door was locked. Called the number, the lady showed up 15 min later. Gave us a key, but when we got into our room it was not cleaned after previous guests. After about 20 minutes she finally found us another room, but only for one night. Next day the same situation was repeated- no one at front desk, and our original room was still not cleaned. After 45 minutes they got us yet another room, which really needed some remodeling (see picture taken inside the tiny bathroom). For $200/night I expected a better room and much better service.

My husband and I really enjoyed our two nights at Ala Mar! It was such a cute place, and had an amazing view. We loved the tile and Spanish influence. It was close to Stearn’s Wharf and walking distance to multiple stores, restaurants, and the beach. The room was basic, but we weren’t lacking anything. The breakfast provided in the property next door was nice and was a lovely place to start the morning. We got the penthouse and really enjoyed our private patio as well! The staff was friendly and overall we have no complaints whatsoever. We will stay here again should we find ourselves in the area.

We had a great time. There’s a little patio on the top deck for great views. And the adjacent property is cute and also dog friendly. Walking distance to at least five different restaurants. Everything from Sushi to Breakfast within a few steps. And close to the Pier.

There are no words to express the comfort we enjoyed. I like that the different properties are close together. I really looked forward to going in to see Christine/Kristine And her husband at the front desk every day! Extremely convenient and lovely! We really didn’t need a car, other than to go visit my mom. Not only is it is it a nice and clean place to say, these people are the reason I will be back for sure!! These people are a really good representation of Santa Barbara!

We were extremely happy with the location and extra specially happy with the woman who checked us in open our arrival. We were given a room on the second floor which was very nice . My wife after we got to room noticed that our dog Max was having a hard time with the stairs so she thought a room on the first floor would be better for him . I went back to the front desk and asked for a room on the ground floor and she could not have been any nicer or more accommodating. We relocated to the first floor and had a fantastic trip . She was the best !

First off- I work in a small family owned hotel so I know how important having clean, comfortable rooms and a friendly staff is. Christina at the front desk was AMAZING! She was quick and kind. Our room was huge and the views were incredible to wake up to. Clean linens and a very cozy homey feel throughout the hotel. 10/10 would recommend. We will definitely be back.

I’d give 5 stars but it’s a bit clumsy how things are arrange there. When you check in, you have to go to Villa Rosa Inn to check in/out. No cups or mugs or paper towels for kitchenette area. Our unit didn’t have A/C and we didn’t need it, but they should have a ceiling fan to help circulate air in the room. The main light for the room is a dome light like one you buy at Home Depot. Good location and room was fine for an overnight stay.

My time at the Ala Mar Motel was very enjoyable! My room was very clean and comfortable! I had a good view of the beach & the Stearns Wharf pier, which was located directly across the street from the motel! The staff was very professional, courteous and helpful!! I definitely plan to stay here again during my future visits to Santa Barbara!!

The room was very charming with a wonderful view. The bed was very comfortable, but the only thing was our fridge was not really keeping anything cold and the room itself could’ve been cleaner, example were dirty baseboards and doors and bed frame. But it was the bare minimal things I noticed that were not clean, majority of the room itself was fine. The BEST part of our stay was the service. Christina who was the front desk clerk who checked us in was one of the most charming and hard working woman I’ve met in a long time. She not only handled the front desk by herself at the time I arrived (2:00pm) she was bombarded with phone calls, check ins, and guests who had questions and I watched her handle it all extremely professionally and with a smile. She also walked certain guests over to their rooms and also helped a man in a wheelchair. Yes, my wait time was longer than I expected, but that was absolutely fine given the fact she was doing it all by herself. So thank you Christina for making my stay better than expected.

The place has a funky smell but lovely bath and shower. Clean but Older linens as expected of a 2 star motel. I did have someone open my room with a key around 1030pm so that was unsettling

Very nice Motel the jacuzzi was amazing and staff was really nice and respectful. The beach was super close, train station was close and multiple places to eat nearby. We would definitely come back.

If I could rate this hotel no stars, I would. Disgusting hotel, rude front desk people, terrible experience all around. Found bugs and flies in the rooms, the sheets had stains on them, and the towels were not clean. Terrible experience and will never stay here again. Do not waste your time or money.

Traveling through and decided to spend the night in Santa Barbara. Wanted beach front but didn’t think we could afford it. Pricelined it and it was very close to what was displayed in the pictures. Cute! Not modern but super cute and clean. Right next to the beach. We walked to the Warf for dinner. I kept the information so we could come stay again.💜

The room was OK, but it is the customer service and the fact that they won't fix a blatant error in the hotel bill is why I rated them so low. I was checked into Room 119 for the duration of my stay, however my bill indicates I requested a room switch after one night to an upgraded room. I did not do that, and it appears the situation was a mix up with another customer. After several phone calls over a week time period, the staff attempted to convince the manager that this was an error on their part, but she apparently refuses to fix it. My 2-night hotel stay was $120 plus taxes over what I had reserved online through their web site. Disappointed with their response. The rooms are run down, it was clean but very hot and the one window would not open and almost could be pushed out of the wall onto the balcony it was so loose. The location is great.

This place is nice. You have to understand that this building is old and rooms are old as well. Dont expect mobern decor or large windows. This is historic building and the owner cant even make much changes to the room. We drove in with no advanced notice. They had one last room available. It had no view just to the parking lot. Cost was 200 on weekdays and 300 weekends. We stayed there for 3 nights. The office is in the Villa next door. Villa is very nice decorated as the owner loves antique stuff. Beautiful paintings and furniture. You get access to Villa and everything that it offers. Breakfast, coffee, waffles, muffins, bagels, etc. Pool, hot tub, garden with nice sitting. On weekends during lunch they offer cheese, crackers and wine. Staff is very friendly. The room that we got was good for the building. We had exra tub in the room. It is small and not very cozy. This building has to be over 100 years old. Parking is free. The view on the public balcony is amazing and one block from the pierre. Cant ask for more. Would stay here again.

We had a great experience...thank Marcos, you made our day! Last minute stay. Location is number one. Building is old but might be historic. We stayed in room 106. Yes no AC but there was a fan. Bed was comfy. All was clean. Small fridge, microwave, n table in our room. Free parking in property. Will stay here again.

They're making an effort to improve rooms and they're under construction. They offer a good price for the location, plus including breakfast, but don't expect a lot. You have to walk to an adjacent hotel to check in and out and there are cockroaches. It might be worth it to spend a little more for a different lodging option, like the adjacent hotel (that comes with a pool and hot tub) if you care about things like that.
