As we were walking by this building we intrigued by the tile surface of the structure and wanted to know more. We discovered the most incredible interior that housed a restaurant. The size can be daunting but definitely go to the upper levels. Inspite of the size they have a huge, very efficient staff. Service was excellent as was the food. An amazing experience. Final note, go to the sculpture garden across the road...beautiful.

I am giving stars for just the ambiance! Food was TERRIBLE. I mean really TERRIBLE. Not a single thing was good. Drinks were really bad. We ordered guacamole and it had probably one slice worth of avocado rest all was just tomatoes. We then ordered soup pozole - so so so bland - had no salt, lemon, spice.. literally nothing. Chips were stale, bread was 1-2 day old. Salsa was sweet. We ordered a couple other items and non tasted good. We’ve been in Mexico for over a month and this was one of the worst food I have tasted.

This restaurant is a vibe! Food was good but nothing special! The ambience was incredible with a piano man playing beside me. Prices are affordable

So beautiful place where now Sanborns restaurant and shops located. Service and food are normal, when we were there a violinist played and was a bit crowded. There were some problems with payment, but everything was quickly resolved.

I cannot attest to the quality of the food at the restaurant, however, it is truly beautiful inside. Even if you don’t intend to eat there, go ahead inside and take a look at the beautiful interior which is covered in blue tiles. Walk upstairs so that you can have a nice view onto the dining room downstairs. If you come earlier in the day there will be no problem getting a table but by 9:30 on a Saturday morning there was quite a line.

A must visit restaurant in Mexico City for its history and long tradition of serving meals to the locals. Though a bit more of a tourist place now, the food is good, and the service is very good. Drinks are tourist priced, but still extensive.

Beautiful shopping building with gorgeous interior decor and tasty food. I was expecting a lot more of the food and environment, I guess, so it was kind of disappointment. I did have a wonderful birthday lunch, however!

Beautiful and historical place in historical center.Service is very fast. Their specialty coffees are good, but the variety is less. You can also sit on the terrace, but we preferred the courtyard. There was also live music.

I only recommend this place for the experience and architecture BUT NOT for the food. Service 3/5 Food 2/5 Price 3/5 I really appreciate the architecture of this place it's really unique and really old compared to the buildings around. When it comes to the food it's pretty bland, unless of course you like a ton of cheese. We ordered e the Chile en nogada which is season typical dish during the month of September. Of course prises are going to be a lot more expensive here than places far from the city center but the Chile itself was cold both the pepper and the stuffing. I know for a fact that the sauce that goes on top of it is cold but the rest was really bad cause it was cold ❄️. They don't have many coffee options and they were cold as well even when you ask for hot one. The enchiladas were just soggy tortillas with really dry chicken inside and a ton of cheese. And their juices are sitting on a card with no cover, right by the aisle where everyone walks by. Our food took more than 45 minutes to be served, don't know why because the restaurant was pretty empty and they do have a lot of staff. Overall I would say go just for an americano coffee and enjoy the view.

Beautiful historic restaurant. Excellent food, service and amenities. We had a pianist and later a violinist. Great ambiance! I do stop by when I visit CDMX.

Not much to see here. Nothing relevant. Food ain't good and no good drink menu. They didn't have o wanted to make a whiskey sour neither any other classic cocktails. Food on the first floor is a Sanborn s which is good, terrace not so catchy

Super cool architecture. Reminded me of Moroccan architecture with the courtyard on the top floor. Will definitely return. Want to try the restaurant. You can see the slant of the fooonwhen you reach the top. Very neat.

A great spot for coffee or lunch with locals in a beautiful palace, it's also a Sanborns and sells nice gifts. We couldn't believe how many old colonial palacial homes are now converted into restaurants and shops, every day in CDMX we ate in a different one (Azul Histórico and Cafe de Tacuba being two great examples) a few are bank buildings as well and also open to the public with free rotating exhibits.

Worst service, Great ambiance! It’s worth to just visit and get some dope photos in the balcony.. but definitely don’t waste your money to eat!

Admire the building, go past the store\rest. Not that it's bad but not worth the bucks.

We had an amazing breakfast here on our last day in Mexico City. The food was delicious and the view of the courtyard was beautiful.

Really incredible and magical place. From the moment you enter you can appreciate the architecture of the place, its piano music is spectacular. Something I want to highlight is the kindness and helpfulness of their employees, the recommendations to order, super deli. I loved the sangria and the enchilada with green sauce, delicious, I highly recommend it because I tolerate a little spicy and that was the best, it does not sting too much or too little. Clean facilities that make you feel at home. Affordable prices and nearby there is valet parking.

Just how lucky were we to have afternoon coffee here in this gem of a Mexico City palazzo on All Soul's Day? After a centuries-long history that left the wonderful tile in place inside & out and added murals, the place is now one of the Sanborn chain department stores with remarkable eateries. Outside seating was also available.

Is a beautiful place,in the downtown of Mexico city,it was crowded and the service was a little slow. The food is good.

  • 5/5 Niki H. 8 months ago on Google
That is surely a place ro visit and have a lunch! Have patience and wait for your turn to get a table. You will not regret it. Pay attention to the details everywhere around you. The freskos on the walls , the water spring, the way the service madams are dressed, the dishes, everything!

I think this place is a must while visiting Mexico City. There is something about the energy of the place that I liked a lot. We had a great time, the food wasn't that bad, maybe too much seasoning. Overall we enjoyed the place and the service.

To be honest, this was a very disappointing lackluster experience. The food is mediocre at best. The structure of this once illustrious building is breathtaking, but that pretty much is it. This is the kind of establishment that has relied on it's lineage for far too long and has become complacent over the years. Our food took too long (2hrs), our server was rude, and there was no care given to the matter.

Beautiful building with a well-preserved facade and interiors. Revolutionaries like Emilio Zapata and intellectuals used to frequent here. Restaurant Sanborn which is a well-known chain has reliable food, not necessarily mind-blowing. Service was good too. Picturesque area all over.

  • 4/5 D C. 4 months ago on Google
Extremely busy. Long wait to get a table. It has two levels and each level requires to check in. This part sucks. In terms of food options it is quite large. I don't know about food allergies. The building itself is great! It has music and it has a great family atmosphere.

  • 5/5 howard m. 4 months ago on Google
It's a beaut. And it's a Sanborns, a fine restaurant -- always reliable. Someone told me it was the very 1st Sanborns too. I didn't eat at this one but I stared lovingly at the building.... You will too.

  • 5/5 Agnes T. 2 years ago on Google
The building is amazing, the atmosphere is like from a movie, the food is good .

  • 4/5 Robert B. 2 years ago on Google
It's a Sanbournes, but quite high end. The breakfasts are fantastic. The building is worth spending some time inpecting, inside and out. Also nice bathrooms.

  • 4/5 Chubby Y. 2 years ago on Google
Visit the restaurant and don't miss the murals up the stairs! Nice view of the Latino tower from the Sanborns bar.

  • 5/5 Andres B. 2 years ago on Google
A historical place with many choices of food, the service is super attentive even though it’s busy like heck. Many things to see inside and outside of this place .

  • 5/5 Silvia Maldonado C. 2 years ago on Google
Just lovely! Go inside to have nice breakfast or lunch with it's beautiful arkitecture. You won't regret it. Best place to eat: second floor next to the balcony where you can see Bellas Artes.

A place with really cool atmosphere and interior. We had a late breakfast there. Food was good and huge portions. Also you get live piano music.

  • 5/5 Luis G. 2 years ago on Google
Owned by a big-chain company/restaurant but still a beautiful building to go look at. Food is great and at decent prices. Gives you a fancy/old-school vibe, nonetheless still a nice place to eat at. Wait times are expected as is very busy and close to one of the busiest tourist areas in the city, but definitely worth the wait. The second floor has great views!

  • 5/5 alan v. 2 years ago on Google
Straight forward breakfast menu with fresh items. But, the real reason to come here is the beautiful courtyard with seating on two levels, an historic mural and central location. Don't skip the desert.

  • 4/5 Robert C. 3 years ago on Google
A lovely looking mansion on the main walking street of Mexico city. It contains a Sanborns chain restaurant within which is fairly reasonably priced. The house includes murals and a small fountain in the courtyard which has been roofed and turned into a dining room.
