These are the real deal, very traditional, oily and cheesy square pies and you have to try them - at 4 lei a piece, they’re bargain. You’ll find “merdenele” all over town, but these are considered to be the original ones, completely unhealthy, of course, but irresistibly delicious.

By far the best “Merdenea” ( traditional cheese pie ) in the city. Also the rest of the pastries are great, home made and great ingredients. Family owned pastry shop with decades of experience. “ Nea Mihai” is the owner and his recipe of “merdenea” is top secret 👮🏻‍♂️. Famous between locals, this place is my favorite place where I go weekly with great joy to grab some “merdenele” for me, my wife and soon my daughter.

I’m a clueless tourist, and by luck I chanced upon this hole in the wall patisserie near my accommodation. It was open early in the morning so I guess I was lucky. Tried the Palmier, Briosa muffin, Vanilla Custard with Pineapple Tart and Corn Cascaval Bread - all of them look simple but very delicious! You can see the bakers working on it behind the cashier. When we came back in the afternoon, a queue of both young and old started to form so you know it’s good stuff and approved by the locals. Try it!

Probably the best patiseria in the city centre. It's a family owned business with it's own receipies that stood in the same place for a few decades. If you are in the area try the pies, the biscuits, try anything and you will not be sorry. It seems it's always open, in fact it closes late and opens early so you will probably find it open.

I mean, it’s good but it doesn’t live up to the hype.

The best 'merdenele cu brânză ' in town. The location owner, Nea Mihai', comes from an old elite of Aromanian ('Makedoni') masters of the merdenele, Balkan style. You'll have the chance to meet on the sidewalk there at Nea Mihai cultural personalities, like Andrei Pleșu, taking huge bites of the merdenele right on the spot. The place has vibe and brings to me the nostalgia for another great place of merdenele, in front of the Gara de Nord, run by another machedon, another Nea Mihai😀.

This outstanding bakery shines brightly in a less-than-ideal surrounding. Despite its looks, this place offers a delightful range of both flaky, crispy treats and soft, delicate pastries. The price makes everything very tempting as well. Keep in mind, it's quite popular, so be prepared for a wait in line, and there's a chance your favorite menu item could be temporarily unavailable.

Old time recipes. Despite the rather small and unattractive front (everywhere in the world: usually these are the places you can eat the tastiest food), the pastries are absolutely delicious (see Merdenea or Placinta Dobrogeana).

This small place manages to offer the best pastry experience in Bucharest. If you pass by, stop and try the traditional salty cheese filo - merdenea, apple strudel, chocolate "corn" or anything they offer is delicious. I remember a small funny story, while I was sitting in queue once: Was June I believe, and somebody asked if they have pumpkin strudels, the answer? Are pumpkins in season? Come back in autumn. All pastry places in Bucharest do not use real pumpkin anymore, just this weird orange sugar gel that resembles the taste of pumpkin, so even more appreciation goes towards this small place for keeping its products as natural and fresh as possible.

Best merdenea (traditional salty cheese pie) you can find! Anything else they sell is delicious. Highly recommend

I am so happy that I found this place by chance and saw the line. So next day, I tried the merdenea based on other reviews and it was heavenly! It is a place frequented by locals with counter service. So one will need to be patient. I went early in the morning to avoid the line 🙂

Small place but this is where the best "Merdenea" is found. Everytime it is served hot and fresh. Definitely worth a visit.

Absolutely magic little spot with the most delicious baked goods. One of my favorite finds in Bucharest, I come and get a treat here every time I’m in the city. Its unassuming facade holds the bakery in the back where all the delicious pastries are made. And the kindest gentleman will serve you through a small little window. 10 out of 10, not to be missed!

By faaaar, the best "Merdenea" - traditional cheese pastry puff - in the city. The only one close to it (arguably even better) is in found in Neptun City at the sea side, on the way to "La Steaguri" beach, on the left side. Do try them both!!! Only 5 lei a piece here. Even Glovo can get them for you 😉

Great classic romanian pastry! Very nostalgic vibes! Must try: merdenea & dobrogeana with cheese

Worth the hype - very tasty pastries! It's a shame nothing is written in English though. Very cheap and ideal if you're on a budget holiday and you're looking for some healthier fast food. There might be a queue, but it's totally understandable!

Great products and wide offering. Expect a queue.

Best merdenele in town!!!! A must try!!! I would recommend first a merdenea, then a Velocita gelato, as they're really close and both really, really good 🤤 Make sure you have cash, Patiseria Comteia doesn't take cads, but makes your trip to the ATM (super close) worthwhile.

I just have to share the news of this patiseria. I bought meat pie and vanilla cupcakes from there. It was heavenly. Very fresh and super tasty.
