We have a big church where millions of dollars are spent instead of using that money to build hospitals or infrastructure. Nobody wants this except brainwashed people. Schools in Romania have toilets outside, but we have a big church so we can pray for a better life...

The People's Salvation Cathedral (Romanian: Catedrala Mântuirii Neamului), also known as the National Cathedral (Romanian: Catedrala Națională), is an Eastern Orthodox cathedral under construction in Bucharest to serve as the patriarchal cathedral of the Romanian Orthodox Church. It is located in central Bucharest on Spirea's Hill (Arsenal Square), facing the same courtyard as the Palace of Parliament which is the heaviest building in the world, the cathedral having a tenth of its weight and about 24% of its volume. Situated behind the Palace of Parliament, this will make it 50 metres taller than the Palace, and will help to make the cathedral an iconic landmark in the city. The People's Salvation Cathedral is 86.2 metres (283 ft) above sea level, and at 135 metres (443 ft) height (ground-cross), holds a dominant position in Bucharest's cityscape, being visible from all approaches to the city.

A waste of money. Is not the fact that this is a cathedral, is the fact that Romania still have dirty hospitals, where roaches are walking on the walls, we waste billions of euros for this thing instead of using for make the public health system better or investing it in education.

instead of using the money to improve the infrastructure, they used them to build a massive church that cannot provide better healthcare, cannot provide better environments in schools, cannot provide better roads and overall cannot provide anything other than false hope. it also looks ugly

5 million romanians left the country in the last 30 years, no completed highway connecting us to the Europe, half of the people in rural areas are using toilets outside of the house, thousands students starting 1st grade and not finishing the highschool, still using 40 years old trams but here we are building a horrible building right next to the top horrible in the country aaand with golden top. Pretty much sums it up as the definition of a Corrupt Country, MCV for life, not welcome in the Shengen, nor part of the Euro area. Way to go! :(

(Translated by Google) Considering that a hospital built from scratch only from donations cost 30 million euros, (the one next to Marie Curie built by the Give Life Association) could easily make 5-6 hospitals from 0 .. They need cathedrals when the medical system operates in buildings built 50-60 years ago.

Amazing church (as a tourist). Still under construction so cannot enter but worth seeing. However, I can see the problems and issues with this construction project as it is monumentally unnecessary financially to divert public funds from more needed infrastructure: roads, hospitals, education etc. A shame to see that this investment isn’t being used for the good of the locals and residents of Bucharest & Romania. Not only it is a waste of money in a country known for poor infrastructure, schools and hospitals, but also looks ugly. Nothing unique about it, no style, no anything. Well, another thing Romania is known for is for it's high corruption, so, at least it symbolizes something.

Waste of taxpayers money, donations. We need hospitals, schools, roads, better infrastructure. We have more churches in Romania than any other country in the world and the best corrupt politics that goes hand in hand with the church. We have more churches than we have schools and hospitals. A lot of dumb people support this trend. Sad!

Awful, a waste of taxpayers money and a symbol of the corruption among the elites and religious leadership. There are numerous historical buildings that are more spectacular and richer, culturally speaking, than this.

I see a lot of Romanians criticizing the project as a waste of money. It explains a lot of why Romania is where it is, compared to other post-communist nations. First of all, the cathedral was built more from the Church’s money and believers donation than from public funding. For the portion that came from public funding, they used the same tools/application as others to receive funding for a project that will showcase the art and greatness of Orthodoxy in the country (which is the Church’s mission as an organization). If you’re a non-believer, just take it as an artistic touristic attraction that will attract religious and art tourists. Second, for those saying the public money should’ve been used for infrastructure… how is that the church’s fault. For 30 years politicians you elected did nothing. Hold them accountable for hundreds of billions going nowhere. No, instead you criticize the organization that actually follows through with their mission. The church’s mission is to build churches not roads. That is the politician’s job. Hold them accountable. As a lat side note, from what I know the church does more for poor people and orphans in Romania than the state so really, I think you should direct your anger in another direction.

There is a time and a place for most things, but in the 21st century I’m not aware of other european countries diverting significant public funds for building churches. Unfortunately it is a fair reflection on where we are as a nation amongst other EU countries..and this is just the tip of the iceberg, as many other ‘monstrous’ churches are being built these days in the worst of places

Impressive building , worth visiting when it will be finished . Meticulous work has been put in designing the interior mosaics as current pictures have shown to the public. It surely will be listed as one touristic landmarks of Bucharest along the Palace of Parliament and other historical buildings . Ignore the hate comments which don’t have anything to do with the building itself nor with any kind of experience visiting the place , the commenters are just brainwashed by the anti-Christian media . If the government has founded its construction it will surely get its money back from promoting it as a tourist attraction just like Barcelona’s Sagrada Familia grand cathedral is.

A symbolical building erected in the garden of The House of People meaning the closeness of the religious authority with the state. A symbol that was the idea of famous Romanian rulers or statesmen and artists of the previous centuries. It was built mostly with support from the orthodox believers than with public or EU funding but it still draws a lot of criticism especially from non-believers. I have personally given about 2000 euros of my hard-earned money to contribute to the erection of this symbolical building and it bothers me to see so many non-believers that contribute only with criticism even though the numbers and the facts are against them and for the building of this Cathedral. Now we're at least on the same level with other European countries where most of them have cathedrals while we didn't. So you can imagine what types of Romanians can criticize this project. The amount of hate this project gets / draws is against reason, numbers and facts. Either way, worths seeing once it is done.

Simply put: ugly. Leaving aside the staggering amounts of money that went into it (a lot of locals being skeptical about how that money was used)...but 100 years from now, I think we'll marvel at how ugly cathedral construction was in the early 2000s. The bottom line is that it's not very pleasant on the eye. Bucharest has its charm; it's not particularly stunning (communism made sure to erase 80% of its beautiful heritage) , but it has a great atmosphere and its residents keep it alive; this city never sleeps, similar to New York. Romania has so much more to offer. Just cross the Carpathians to the north of Bucharest and beautiful architecture and scenery awaits you.

It is a huge waste of money, it's extremely ugly an borig and it should have never existed. We need so many other things, not some huge indoctrination building
