The name of the church comes from the moment when it was "freed" from taxes in 1667. The cross was erected between 1629-1632, in honor of the victory of Leon Tomșa on August 23, 1631. It is located on a mound, and there are buried the bones of the army of Leon Tomșa and of the army of Aga Matei (Matei Basarab). Radu Leon restores the cross between 1664-1665. Currently, it is surrounded by a wooden trellis. The cross was built between 1629 and 1632, commemorating the victory of Leon Tomșa's army on August 23, 1631 against Aga Matei's boyars.
