I used to struggle with maintaining a regular gym routine as lifting weights simply for the sake of it didn’t appeal to me. Upon a friend’s recommendation, I decided to try out Sorin’s Dojo, looking to combine exercise with self-defense training. I must say, I am thoroughly impressed. Sorin Matei meticulously explains not only the proper techniques but also educates on why one should prefer one technique over another, delving into the mechanics of each move. I have heard stories from friends about other self-defense classes where instructors would pit students against each other without adequate explanation or training. However, at Scoala Bukan de Krav Maga, the experience is completely different. Instead of sparring unprepared, we train rigorously on the proper form for each strike, repeating them until we’ve mastered the moves. Only then do we train together to practice and test those moves, ensuring a solid understanding and execution of each technique. This dojo provides a thoughtful and comprehensive approach to self-defense, making each session educational and empowering. I highly recommend Sorin’s Dojo to anyone seeking a meaningful and well-rounded training experience.

I first learned about krav maga years ago and it became my go-to choice when I was evaluating different areas of my life and what choices I could make to improve the general quality. And so I attended my first lesson at Bukan Dojo Tineretului under the guidance of Sorin Matei. I went with no expectations and left impressed, energized and even more curious about this unique form of self-defense. Sorin is very professional, patient and actively involved in teaching every person that steps into his dojo; not just techniques but understanding how the human body functions, the logic behind movements and the mentality behind the art of krav maga in general. You are challenged in many different ways. But you are challenged in a safe space, that is organized yet friendly, attended by people that have created a community. And you are welcome to become a part of that community and to embrace krav maga as part of your lifestyle and mindset. To develop your body, your mind and grow as a person and become secure in yourself and in your ability to ensure your safety and for others. It's really an experience that keeps on giving if you apply yourself, develop self-discipline and allow it to become a part of your life. With an easy heart and focused mind. Absolutely would recommend as an experience to learn something useful, challenge and tone your body but even more valuable, seeing an actual community of people that come together to enjoy each others'company in a healthy manner. Krav maga is really a foundation upon which you can build up both your physical, mental and emotional wellbeing and this dojo at Tineretului, lead by Sorin Matei truly encourages that and values your improvement.

I've been wanting to get back to exercising, and chose Krav Maga because of its dual utility: exercising and learning actual self defence tactics (that by the way can be useful not just when you are under attack). I first tried another location/provider and wasn't thrilled. When I came to Sorin I was hooked: he's the right balance of warmth and firmness, and teaches us not just the HOW, but also the WHY. Since I started, I brought 3 more friends and they all stayed (they now go more often than me, but hey). All in all I would whole-heartedly recommend Sorin and his teachings of Krav Maga. The location is quite accesible and the space is always proper. People from all walks of life and all ages (15 to 60) come here, which is nice for socialising.

I was searching for some physical activity to get me out of my comfort zone and busy mind. I found in Sorin an inspirational and mindful sensei and coach and his Krav Maga community to be quite therapeutic. I highly recommend this place for gaining technical skills, improving mental and physical strength, and, maybe more important, flexibility.

Have you ever wondered where is the perfect place to practice krav maga? I sure did, and I found an answer to my question. I was looking for a dojo as my son requested and I found Bukan school of Krav Maga Bucharest - Dojo Tineretului and Sorin. One thing led to another and we both ended up barefoot on the tatami. I have found myself in a friendly environment with a supportive community and an excellet teacher, Sorin. He guides us with calm , patience and wisdom not only to learn defense techniques but also to learn discipline, self control and to be aware of our surroundings. Just give it a try and you will discover that you can do more than you thought you could and that you have the ability and strength to overcome your limits.

Amazing place and friendly people. Sorin helps each one of us to learn and understand more on the techniques and how to accomplish it. I don't know how he does it, but every one of us gets enough attention to not feel left out. He is a great teacher in learning us the Krav Maga techniques. Remember, this is not a fitness class, it's a self defense training. ;)

One of the best experiences in Martial Arts training I've ever received! Even when starting out with limited mobility and no previous fitness training whatsoever, we've practiced real world self defence scenarios. The explanations were on-point with answers to the most important question: "Why?" Why are we doing the motions that we are doing? And the answers were based on the human anatomy, weak-points and how the joints function. The sensei was exceptional in presenting, explaining and correcting the techniques for newbies such as myself. It is clear that this is done out of passion for the self-defence system and not as a job. I would definitely recommend this to whoever wants to find a Martial Art or self defence system with real-world applications. After all, it's the self defence system used by the Israeli special forces, so yeah, can't go wrong with that. As for the price, it's much too low, for how and what is being taught. Multiple people have already asked the Sensei to raise the price :D

If you want to feel more confident, disciplined and in control of your body, mind and emotions, then I trully recommend this school. I will admit that my journey with Krav Maga wasn't that long due to some leg issues that I had since forever, but in the few interactions, I could see the amazing community that this school has, the empowering energy and potential to shape you into a stronger version of yourself. More than that, I know Sorin Matei for about 8-9 years already. I met him first as a trainer and now as a Krav Maga teacher and his professionalism, authenticity and kindness make him a true role model, someone you will want to learn from. It will be fun, exciting but also hard as it requires work and motivation, but nothing really good is that easy, right?

I have zero regrets about picking this school. It provides outstanding professionalism and an entirely positive experience. Sensei Sorin is incredibly committed to his students and gives each one individual attention and support while still managing to establish a friendly and secure environment. It is a beautiful setting where people of all ages learn to believe in themselves, practice in a pleasant way how to deal with aggression of any kind, socialize, develop self-control, overcome themselves, and just be themselves. You learn skills at this school that you never imagined you would possess, giving you the self-assurance to advance. It is also a fantastic method to unwind and let go of daily tension. By attending this school for some time, you eventually acquire a new way of thinking. Attending classes at this Dojo is a pleasure; highly recommended!!

A friend of mine and I took one month of training lessons at the Krav Maga school in Bucharest. Sorin was our teacher. He taught us basic self-defense and protection techniques, including several punches and proper falling and explained every move in a professional and detailed way. He was a strict and precise teacher, but still made the training fun and engaging. The learning process was hands-on and we appreciated that he taught us the techniques step by step and slowly added new elements to the different motions, which made understanding them easier. Thanks to Krav Maga we have better control of our movements and heightened endurance. The training was really fun as well. Disadvantages are sore muscles and that you are forced to get to know new people - Sorin insists that we switch partners for the exercises :D But don't worry, the people in the dojo are very friendly, helpful and calm. The school was not that easy to find when we went there for the first time, but it's not too difficult either. Nevertheless, the dojo is a nice space with changing rooms and it has an air conditioner (which was particularly nice during the summer practices). All in all, we really liked the Krav Maga lessons a lot and appreciate everything we learned there!

Sorin and Andreaa are fantastic coaches, Sorin has been a really great leader in running the classes, he made the inclusive for English speakers, his approach to teaching is both engaging, entertaining and informative. His very authentic approach to growing the community also makes him a great coach to learn so much from.

A few months ago I went to Scoala Bukan de Krav Maga Bucuresti and even if I didn't take classes for a lot of time I highly recommend this dojo even if you are living in Romania for a short period of time and you don't speak the language, as it was in my case. Sorin, the teacher of the dojo translated all the class even if I was the only one that couldn't speak Romanian and I have to say that I felt extremely welcomed and integrated in the dojo. Apart from that Krav Maga is a martial art that trains your body condition and has proved to be very useful in many circumstances. If you are an outsider that wants to do some sport and learn self defence Scoala Bukan is the place to go.

I heard that Krav Maga is a very effective form of martial art , so i decided to try it out . I found Dojo Tineretului near me and i decided to give it a try . From the first day at the dojo i was welcomed by our teacher , mister Sorin and after a few sessions i felt like home . The environment is very friendly and the instructors take very good care of each student . Also , i want to praise the cleaniness of the place , after we finish the session we all clean the mats that we work on and if anybody injures himself we have a first aid kit , but we generally don't get hurt. I recommend this establishment to anyone that wants to develop his self defense skills and improve his confidence .

Other than my friends, Krav Maga is the thing that I miss most about Bucharest. Although it wasn’t in my neighbourhood, I chose to go to Sorin’s Dojo in Tineretului and that was the best decision I could have made. You even get a free trial lesson which is a great way to see if it’s really for you. The practice itself is very cool and a lot of fun and while some things are challenging Sorin is really great at helping you push your boundaries within healthy limits without feeling any pressure. I need a life coach like him! But what’s even cooler is that Sorin’s club is a real community. He organises and suggests lots of activities with the group outside class and makes each and everyone feel super welcomed and included. If you’ve read this far, I don’t know what you’re doing not sending him a text right now?! He’s also super responsive! You won’t regret it!

An amazing space with an amazing instructor for those who are willing to dedicate their time & energy for such a delicate yet tough contact sport such as krav maga. You will learn in the first seconds of your first session that your body is capable of more than you are aware of. You just need a lot of practice and a great instructor as Sorin is - zen all the time, with an incredible patience for every newbie, having a stimulating joy about this special self-defense technique.

Sorin is an excellent teacher! super friendly and flexible. The students were also really nice and welcoming. Sorin made sure I felt included and gave instructions according to my level as a beginner. The techniques are very practical and efficient (in the spirit of Krav Maga). It's a pretty good work out too. The dojo is clean and well ventilated. Highly recommended!

Short review: Our instructor, Sorin Matei, is not only a very good teacher, but a funny, open minded, smart and a nice guy also. He puts heart in every class and every technique he teaches us. I cannot praise him enough, so, come to the dojo if you're tempted to practice a self defense martial art that will make you feel more confident and a calmer person. You'll also find friendly people too! 😊 Detailed review: The first time I heard about Krav Maga was in high school after I started thinking that it's a great idea to learn a martial art for self defense. Searching through the web, I came across multiple and very different styles: Karate, Judo, Boxing, Kickboxing, Krav Maga, Muay Thai, Taekwondo, Jujutsu, Greco-Roman wrestling and so on. With one exception, all of them have some drawbacks: - Karate techniques can't usually be applied on street fights - Judo is mostly a contact sport based on throws and take downs and the word "sport" means that certain attacks are forbidden (like free punches and kicks) - In Boxing you are only allowed to punch with your hands and above the waist, which clearly is not using every possible limb of the human body - In Kickboxing you can hit with both hands and legs, but not on weak spots, like between the legs (this is also a sport) - Muay Thai is also a sport, but allows many more techniques than the others; however, deliberately striking between the legs is forbidden, as well as any holds from contact sports like judo. - Taekwondo techniques are mostly based on fast leg kicks and jumps, so... the hands are not used so much - Jujutsu is based on close combat only (unarmed or with a minor weapon) - Greco-Roman wrestling is also a contact sport Thus, the only martial art I came across that allows everything is Krav Maga. It's an art of self defense. It has techniques that can either immobilize the opponent giving enough time for you to escape or end the fight with 1-2 or at most 3 punches/kicks. The roles of the techniques are not for show-off and keep the fight going for others to see. Krav Maga's techniques ensure that if they are applied correctly, they will get you out of the fight as fast as possible. But Krav Maga is not only about the possible fight. No one that comes to the dojo wants that. Krav Maga is about living a quiet life, peacefully, without being afraid that at some point someone can walk in the room and start bullying and even hitting you. Krav Maga is a state of mind. When someone wants to take on someone, when they look at you they should think twice and change their mind just by sensing that you're not a person they should get involved with. Our instructor, Sorin Matei, teaches just that. He puts heart in every technique he shows us and explains the principle behind it and gives us different scenarios when we could apply it. He then watches us how we execute them and corrects every little thing that may make the technique not 100% efficient. Sorin is not only a very good teacher, but a funny, open minded, nice, smart guy (very smart if you ask me; for a lot of techniques he teaches he provides info from fields like biology, geometrics and physics - simple stuff, nothing complicated - in order to make us understand the logic behind the movement). He often suggests us to go have dinner and a drink after the training. I took part in some of these dinner outs and after you see the people train, talk, joke, laugh, you start realizing that this is more than just a class of Krav Maga. This is closer to a friendship, for some even a family. After my first training with Sorin, I had some muscle fever in parts of the body I couldn't think I can have 😂, but the second training was so awesome, I can't describe it enough to you 🤩. The stuff you'll learn here will help you be more confident in yourselves and it will also help you be a calmer person. You have to give it time, but I'll ensure you that the journey is worth it 🤩. See you at the dojo! 😉

I've been attending Sorin's Krav Maga classes in Tineretului for two months, and it's been an incredible journey. Sorin's expertise and passion for Krav Maga shine through in every session. He has a unique ability to make complex techniques accessible to everyone, regardless of their skill level. The classes are not just about learning self-defense; they're about building confidence, strength, and resilience. The environment is welcoming and supportive, with a strong sense of community among the students. Sorin pays great attention to each student, ensuring that we understand the techniques and can apply them effectively. I highly recommend the classes to anyone looking to learn self-defense, improve their fitness, or simply join a community of like-minded individuals.

The completely random FB suggestion to participate in a free krav maga lesson was one of the most successful experiences of last summer. I discovered in Sorin Matei a professional who masters both the art of self-defense and the art of communication. What he chose to teach and especially the way he did it convinced me to enroll in the Bukan Krav Maga School - Youth Dojo. I found an organized and clean dojo, colleagues with a lot of common sense, an involved trainer and an experience that adds something extra every time - both physically and mentally.

I started learning Krav Maga approximately 1 year ago. My desire to learn a self defence art has started with the fact that I'm a person which likes to travel a lot, and sometimes I might end up in situations where I don't feel very safe. After some research I've found that Krav Maga is the best fit for me. It is not a sport per se(because you don't have competitions like in boxing), but rather a series of techniques which will help defent yourself in difficult situations. First time I met my instructor, Sorin Matei, he struck me as a serious and imposing person. Learning and teaching Krav Maga will have this effect on you, it will teach you to have discipline, both mentally and physically. After getting to know him you'll find out he is an open and kind person with very good teaching skills. Besides the obvious self defence techniques which you learn, you will also gain mobility and even improve your physical condition and posture. I was very happy with my choice, and I hope so are you, if you decide to do this!

In times like these you might be fearful, and looking for a safe place to hide. What If I told you there is a safe place, but to grow. This is exactly what Krav Maga - Tineretului Dojo is. It's well cared after, the dojo is immaculate. The same care goes into teaching you as well. You work with your body but also with your mind. The techniques you learn teach you a lot about fighting, but also when it's best to not engage. When the body learns, you start feeling different in your body. You know you can defend yourself. It's a process, and you are not in it alone, everyone is friendly and wants to improve and Sorin is an amazing sensei and helps you every step of the way. All this contributes to a very supportive atmosphere where you will grow.

It was a great experience! Everything was extremely helpful. Also Sorin Matei provides us great information. Encouragement to fight with basic moves so the fight reaction becomes more natural. Reinforces to be aware and trust [your] instincts. I feel empowered to not be a victim and definitely learned new ways to defend myself.

The importance of martial arts and self-defense is far too important to be set aside. I went to this Dojo and I can tell you that everyone is welcome to learn this one of a kind sport. Sorin Matei is the master who teaches us discipline, self-control and of course, ways to defend ourselves. Through this sport, you will not only feel more protected, but also much braver and more confident. I recommend it 100%.

Sorin Matei's Krav Maga School in Tineretului is the 'go to' place if you want to learn *real* self defense and do some consistent upgrades to your mind and body. The atmosphere is friendly, joyful and at the same time very professional thus honouring Imi Lichtenfeld's line of work (Krav Maga founder). Highly recommended.

Loved it! Sorin M is one of the trainers. He teaches how to control our emotions and how to react in case of a bad situation which might involve fighting. The training hour goes fast because it's fun and also full of information. If you don't get it the first time he has the patience to explain it to you again and again. He puts his soul in what he teaches and you can see that, every time. Definitely recommend !

I came to three of his classes as I am a traveler. He was very welcoming and switched the instructions into English for me which I thought was very kind. He is a good teacher, making lots of jokes, having fun but still making sure you do everything correctly. I learned very valuable self defense skills that are more relevant to the realities of the street and would like to continue learning krav maga. The classmates were also very helpful, Sojin also provided refrshments after class which I enjoyed. He also assisted me with finding a krav maga school in Cluj. I would highly recommend him and also to any expats or travelers in Buckarest.

For a long time I have had an interest in martial arts due to the order and discipline that characterize them, fundamental elements of evolution and progress with which I identify. Among all the martial arts I am fascinated by Krav Maga because it focuses on the main purpose which is self-defense and the preservation of our physical integrity in real combat situations. Its practical and realistic philosophy combines both elegance and beauty. Thanks to the teachings of Sensei Sorin Matei I have learned that the most spectacular and amazing defences and movements as well as the great feats in life are achieved starting from very simple principles but executed with precision, discipline and the most important with a clear mind. The teachings of Krav Maga are not only for combat but for life in general.

It all started 3 years ago when I was looking for a self-defense art for my son and that's when I found out about krav maga and the Bukan krav maga school. In 2 years of practice, I saw the transformations of my child, the fact that he started to trust him, to be more sure of him. Then they heard about a free krav maga lesson for adults taught by sensei Sorin Matei and I said to try this martial art. After the first session I realized that krav maga means more than I thought and the atmosphere in the Youth dojo together with sensei Sorin Matei made me want to return to training. I made the best decision, sensei Sorin Matei is a mentor and a special person, the self-defense techniques taught by him are very effective, very well explained, based on the reality of everyday life, and the atmosphere at the Youth dojo is a positive one and here I had the opportunity to meet special people from many fields. I warmly recommend it, it's a bit difficult at first until we get out of our comfort state, but the confidence it gives you in your own strength is worth all the effort.

I discovered the Bukan Krav Maga School by chance, on fb. For a long time I was attracted to the idea of learning a defense technique and the free lessons that Sorin gives made me decide. Another advantage is that Dojo Tineretului is close to me. That's how I discovered an interesting place on a Saturday in the summer of this year, where everyone trains and practices barefoot. For personal reasons I took a break but I'm back. I really like the physical space in which it takes place, large and spacious, suitable for what is being learned, I appreciate Sorin's open, calm, determined style and wisdom, because the art of Krav Maga is not only a defense technique, but I learn at every training and about the art of living, of facing challenges. It's a lifestyle that Sorin explains to us, shows us through his own example. I also appreciate the people I met and know at the dojo, the way Sorin encourages us to get to know each other and the general, open and friendly atmosphere. And first of all, I appreciate the effective defense techniques and the philosophy behind them.

I was looking into martial arts more as a bonding activity with my daughter and Krav Maga really caught my attention as appeared to me to be more practical, more oriented towards self defense and more adapted to the real life situations. I don't know what I liked more while starting practicing: the good vibe of the group, the tidiness at the Tineretului Dojo, the strict and rigorous approach of Sorin Matei, good fun most of the time but passionate all the time. He's putting a lot on effort to teach but also to create a community, highly appreciated considering the heterogeneity. All these helped me to be fully focused while learning the techniques and also enjoying the developments of side effects (stretching is one I lacked for). Definitely a not to miss experience

I also went to this Krav Maga school with my daughter, she was very excited, but we had to take a break to take care of school a little considering the fact that she is in the 8th grade and she has to prepare. We will definitely come back, especially since the teacher is a very cool man🤗. I highly recommend, it's worth trying.

I have studied martial arts most of my life, going via Shotokan as a young kid, Judo, Kickboxing and Kyokushin to later BJJ, all great styles but all take years to be able to use these techniques in real life scenarios and self-defense situations. I was looking into a tailored self-defense system especially for my daughter, something that is more applied for real life situations self-defense, with maximum of efficiency and applied results, that can be used without having brute force advantage and great genetics, not very taxing for the body and to be studied in a safe and professional dojo environment. As I have met Sorin Matei years ago in a different work-related environment and knowing his personal values and brains as well as his skills, passion, and personal history in Krav Maga, for me was the logical choice and I was not wrong at all. Bukan Dojo Tineretului is a special place, with very well-educated students, surrounded by common respect and a fast-learning realistic place where everyone that wants to study the art of survival in violent situations or boost their self-defense skills, self-trust and situational awareness can do it in an accelerated manner. I highly recommend Bukan Dojo Tineretului as a great place where you can learn real life situation self-defense, be safe, make friends and learn Krav Maga from the best.

In the desire to do an activity that can help me achieve a mental and physical balance, I arrived at the Dojo Tineretului for Sorin Matei's defense training in Krav Maga. I believe that Sorin is a very calm coach and an extraordinary mentor. He succeeds in creating a safe place in the dojo where everyone feels comfortable to experiment, to make mistakes, to be what they want and who they want to be, something that transforms the atmosphere at the dojo into a very friendly space, where people enjoy to make friends with each other, everyone jumps to help when you need it and encourages you when you feel overwhelmed. As for the techniques, they are explained very well and otherwise structured so that they are fully understood and easy to recreate. Sorin always mentions that by the end of the lesson you will know how to do the technique taught, I was very skeptical, but in my case, it always happened. I wholeheartedly recommend both the Dojo and Sorin as a trainer! For me, he created a very pleasant experience
