We joined the "Old town legends and stories tour", guided by Stefan, a great and talented guide. Stefan has a great knowledge of Romanian history and history of Bucharest. He is also passionate about what he does and he is really interactive with a great sense of humor, suggesting anything a tourist could ask, from important places to visit to value for money bars and restaurants We really enjoyed the tour though the weather conditions were not perfect, since we were walking on a hot sunny day Highly recommended

I participated the Monarch VS Communism walking tour. It takes you to many interesting landmarks in Bucharest which relates to 19th century till communist era, you will have a better understanding of Bucharest's history. The guide Stefan is a passionate, humorous and knowledgeable guy who makes the whole tour enjoyable. In the end of the tour, you can give tips freely as you want. If I can come back to Bucharest again in the future, I will sure to join Stefan's other walking tour again.

I was able to take part in both English-speaking free tours. The routes have a good ratio between length and content. Stefan (Communism vs Monarchy Tour) and Laura (Old Town Legends and Stories Tour) were very good city guides who also answered other questions. So much so that it's easy for me to give a good tip. Communication via WhatsApp is easiest and you always receive an answer immediately (no ChatBot). Thanks!

Can I please thank Cristina for the Communist Bucharest walking tour. She is amazing and her wealth of knowledge is fantastic. When I was in Bucharest I went on a few tours and by far Cristina is #1. Other tour guides lacked her enthusiasm, knowledge and recommendations on local things to do without getting a commission. The other tours I went on they were essentially drivers with some knowledge and took you to specific places to buy things from the stores etc. She gave me a few recommendations in places to visit, eat, things to do and I am grateful for that. It made my trip in Bucharest 🇷🇴 more enjoyable.

"Old Town Legends and Stories" tour was truly amazing! Stefan, our guide was great, told us a lot of stories and historical events with humor and seemed to really enjoy it as much as we did. He gave us enough time to explote monuments, answered questions and even suggested places to visit from museums to restaurants, with the cost of some additional time. It was an excellent experience and would highly recommend booking when visiting Bucharest!

Maria is a dedicated and experienced tour guide who summarized the recent history of Bucharest and Romania in a very exciting and informative way. She gladly answered all of our questions concerning the contemporary development of Romania. It was one of the best free tours we have ever taken (and we have taken many free tours ;)) All in all, a well researched and structured tour. Thank you!

Great guided tour from Maria two weeks ago. The contrast and explanations between the monarchical era and the communist one was so interesting. The little tests and questions kept it lively too. Nuanced, laced with irony, informative commentary. I understand the phases of modern Romanian history much better now. It was an endless flow of well structured information and great responses to questions and observations. Quality!" What really impressed my American friend Jordan and me was how Maria intelligently considered our comments and questions. (I'm from Ireland by the way) The more group participants got involved, they more diversely Maria introduced extra observations, materials and narratives. Plus the sketchpad of visual aids! Great. Maria used it so adroitly to connect us to architecture and history. One of the very best guided walkabouts I've experienced.

Excellent tour, even for someone living for 10 years in Bucharest. I did the "Monarchy vs Communism" tour, which was filled with historical details and good humor. The guide walked us through some important landmarks regarding this subject.

Our small group of 10 or so was lead by a very personable and professional young man. He showed us around the Old Town, describing historical plus modern day events throwing in a bit of humour along the way! He was able to answer all our questions, and also gave us good suggestions and recommendations on dining options. An easy-paced and highly recommended tour.

Great tour and was well worth it. We enjoyed hearing the stories of the complicated history of Romania through the Monarchy and on into Communism. We loved all the visual aides that Ştefan had that helped us to understand things better! The tour had so much good informations and was humorous at the right times! I would highly recommend this tour to all! Thanks Ştefan for being a great tour guide!!

We did both the tour of the old town and the communist walking tour. They were both fantastic and I’d recommend doing them both. They’re a great way to see and learn about the city’s culture and history. Our guides Stefania and Cristina were both great!

My decision to take the "Monarchy-Communism" tour was a last minute choice, and it was totally worth it! Our guide was Cristina and she was AMAZING! Although the tour is in English, she also speaks Spanish, so if you want to practice the language, she'll be more than happy! I was really happy that the tour was around 2 hours cause you really get to see A LOT of things, and Cristina makes sure to share valuable information, but also she sets the tone for everyone to engage throughout the tour! I highly recommend taking this tour, special shout out to Cristina!

A must for everyone visiting Bucharest. An open air lesson about the monarchist and communist eras of Romenia. Stefania (our guide) was also really helpful giving us tips for restaurants and night clubs. I would definitely recommend specially for those who are visiting the city for the first time.

Old town legend and stories: free walking tour in the city center with the amazing guide Maria. She's really amazing, speaks a perfect English, doesn't make a classic boring tour but make it funny and interesting to know the principal monument of the center and their stories. Really recommend!

Alice was an excellent tour guide - engaged, knowledgeable and super friendly! We took the Monarchy to Communism walking tour, and hugely enjoyed it. The tour is really informative, especially if you don't have a great knowledge of Romanian history, as it covered the past 150 years of modern history. Really recommend this tour.

Probably one of the best tours I’ve ever been to! Guide Maria is so knowledgeable and keeps the story very real with a few jokes. Also happy to answer questions that you might have about history or architecture. After this tour, a lot of things that a tourist might find odd in Romania started to make sense. The tour ended with a lovely restaurant recommendation, which was a true local gem rather than a tourist trap. Thank you so much for organising this lovely tour! Will definitely recommend to anyone visiting Bucharest

Wow! Just taking Maria's monarchy to communism tour. "Wow" is the best word to describe her tour. She discussed some very complicated and lengthy history. She did it in an entertaining way that kept me captivated. She knew where to skip details and where to expand. She did it in a great chronological order - so no skipping around. She gave great context to her stories and paired it with with some great sights. She was great at explaining things and dotted every i and crossed every t - left me more educated and fulfilled. I can't recommend her tour enough. It was awesome!

Amazing free walking tour with a lovely guide! Maria was spectacular and stayed extra to take us to get hot wine and tea after a very cold tour around. Balances the complicated history of Romania well, good explanations, interesting facts and knowledgeable about good things/places to see/do/experience in Bucharest. Would recommend!

We’ve had a wonderful walking tour this week. The organisation was very professional and the explanations were perfect. I have discovered many aspects from Bucharest and many advices concerning local life. Ask for Laura as tour guide she’s doing a great job, she was very knowledgeable and funny!

Loved the tours. I liked the medieval one so much that I decided to go to the communism one too. Both with Maria. I had a great time. Maria delivers all the information in a personal, funny, smart way. Recommend.

I did the Old Town walking tour with John. ( Sever-Ioan) The tour was fascinating and the tour guide was really excellent. Our tour was about 3 hours and John kept everyone's interest the entire time. There was plenty of history but also just a lot of local information about Bucharest and Romanian culture in general. John explained Romanian cuisine to us, including photos and also gave us good recommendations for restaurants, etc. I ended up eating in LA Mahala 3 times and yes I had the mici, and it was delicious! I highly recommend this tour and this guide! Regards, Richard

Adela and Michael are excellent guides! We found the tour really informativeand at the same time enjoyable. The pace was nice and calm which gave us time to take some pictures and at the same time gain as much knowledge as possible.

The tour was great and Adela and Michael were fantastic tour guides, mixing fascinating history with personal stories in a way that I haven't seen before! Is a really good way to see Bucharest while learning about how the city came to be.

The tour didn’t give me an understanding of what Romanians are and how they’ve arrived where they are. I was at another tour by Walkabout free tours and it was so much better. Also, this tour ended with the line “you can leave a donation but the minimum is 30” 🙈🙈🙈 cringe

Stephania was an amazing tour guide. Beautiful walking tour with many interesting facts & stories from the communist period of Romania. Truly an enlightening experience where you learn a lot about the recent communist history and monarchy. Not boring, very informative and interesting. Some good stops along the way for sightseeing. 100% recommend!

The tour was fantastic and we had a great time with Maria. The medieval tour was a well written well delivered Romanian saga so we went to the Communism vs Monarchy tour which is an even more complex tour de force into recent European history. Maria is truly an amazing storyteller!

  • 5/5 Herman K. 1 year ago on Google
Had 2 tours with the great guide, Maria. The tours - old town legends, and Communism vs monarchy - didn't overlap. So doing both was very interesting and not a waste of time. Maria was very approachable, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic, which is important as she made the tours interesting and engaging.

Really lovely day out with Adela and Michael. Even though it was cold and windy, they distracted us with fun stories of the city. Having grown up in Romania I thought I knew a lot about it, but I was very wrong. There's always something new and exciting to learn, plus it was a fun day out for my partner who isn't Romanian. We had a blast! Thanks Adela and Michael, looking forward to other tours of yours!

Perfect opportunity for a walk and talk in Bucharest, best way to know the city and get some info on history, culture, arts. Found them engaging and fun, the tour is professionally put together, pay what you feel at the end.

I participated in both tours with Maria and Stefania and I loved it. They made it so interesting you don’t see the 2 and half hours pass. I loved all the stories they told and the way they did it. I attended many free walking tours along my trips and these ones were definitely some of the best. Thank you so much for that, I highly recomand this tour if you come to visit Budapest 😉
