A great place. While you feel yourself in history, you will also feel inside the transformers movie. everything seems to come alive.. :) I recommend firstly you should read the history of the kingdom and then visit it. If you come to the Shumen, you should definitely visit. :))

The car is legally parked. I paid the entrance to the monument 11 or 12 leva for the family. The lady at the cashier asked me where we were from and offered us a file with the Romanian translation of the guide. The monument is imposing, visible from the highway. The inns, although they were sculpted in 1981, look like they are from Transformers. on the outside, there are some traces of concrete degradation, especially on the large external slope. There is a picnic area on the plateau behind the monument, also accessible by car.

An excellent monument describing in "pictures" the early history of the Bulgarian kingdom. For foreigners, it would be advantageous to have someone to translate. From here you have a perfect view over the city of Shumen. As located in nature and surrounded by forest, it is an ideal possibility for picnics or walks. For a restaurant, you should go 5 km away to the old city, where you also find the ancient fortress.

This 40 year old monument is quite impressive as a sculptural composition and imposing architecture. It commemorates the founders of the Bulgarian state, which weirdly resemble the famous Transformers. You can reach it by car or by climbing the 1300 steps from the centre of Shumen. Entrance is 4 Bgn. There are some quite nice park areas around good for camping and for resting, including table tennis. It was quite windy when we visited as the monument is placed on the plateau. Would love to go back there on a more quiet day.

I've travelled a little, and seen some cool stuff, but this monument is by far the most impressive I've ever visited. It's not a monument you simply look at, it's a monument you really feel. Just being in the presence of such huge and powerful structures is humbling, yet reassuring. It really makes you understand that Bulgaria was built on a solid foundation, and can resist anything the world can throw at it. It has already become one of my favourite places in Bulgaria, and I'm already looking forward to visiting again.

I loved the monument. The statues reminded me of a cubistic lord of the rings. Very unique. Too bad the lion wasnt accessible. Cashier lady was very nice.

You can go by car, or using 1300 stairs from the city. In the past there was an entrance fee of 3lv, but not any more. There are benches and tables in a nice lawn, perfect for playing with your dog, kids or some volleyball with friends. The Monument itself is magnificent!!

I love this place! I mean to reach there, there about 1300 steps uphill and with amazing view waiting for you there once you reached. It’s recommended for people who love outdoor activities and a bit intense as it’s uphill and might be difficult for some to go up. And if you love nature like I do, definitely you’ll enjoy. It’s always great to visit nature and feel them. If you love nature and outdoor activities, this is one ☝️ for you to do when you’re in Shumen. 😇

The monument itself is amazing and very impressive. However, there are no info labels and it is hard to understand what or who you are looking at.

(Translated by Google) The place has a beautiful view, but I did not like at all that there is an entrance. After climbing all the steps, we looked at the monument and walked around it, saw the box office, and thought there was a museum to the monument. We paid for the entrance and only after we had paid - we asked what exactly we should see and received the answer that the entrance was for the monument itself and almost once we have seen it we can go. We were very angry then, because not only did we climb 1300 steps, but they also want us to give money for it, and there were people who didn't even pay, after we asked for our money back, they refused us and since then we have vowed never again not to go up, because it's not worth going up, to see a beautiful view that you have to pay for. We are extremely disappointed, we expected more.

The Founders of the Bulgarian State Monument in Shumen, Bulgaria, is a striking tribute to the nation's medieval history and founding rulers. Situated atop the Shumen Plateau, this monumental complex features larger-than-life bronze statues depicting the first Bulgarian rulers: Khan Asparuh, Khan Tervel, Khan Krum, and Tsar Simeon the Great. Surrounding the statues is a landscaped park with walking paths, offering visitors panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and the city of Shumen below. The monument serves as a powerful symbol of Bulgaria's rich heritage and its enduring spirit of independence. It's a must-visit destination for history enthusiasts and travelers interested in exploring Bulgaria's medieval past.

One of the most impressive communist monuments in Bulgaria. It is by far the most preserved thanks to the entry fee. The lady at the entrance was very kind and happy to welcome visitors. If you want to learn more about Bulgarian history I advise to talk a few minutes with her. They don't accept card payments therefore bring cash.

  • 4/5 Irina S. 4 years ago on Google
The place is stunning. Shows scenes of Bulgarian history. There is an entrance fee officially which is ridiculous because it is an open area and if you go through the entrance from the stairs - like most people you do not see the ticket office. You can even visit the place and go back and not notice that there was an entrance fee. The locals are not happy about the fee too.

This is a great experience. Taking the 1300 steps is a workout but it is worth it. You can also drive up to the top if steps do not suit you. There is a small resturant right before you reach the monument. There are lots of picnic areas and small playgrounds at the top. I will be back.

  • 5/5 Paul C. 2 years ago on Google
Very nice place with friendly staff, interesting history and great views. The lady that sold tickets was really funny and friendly, gave us a description in our language of choice between allot of language choices. Really enjoyed the place and the view.

One of the most impressive socialist architecture in the country combing then futuristic design with Bugaria's historical figures. A must whilst in Shumen. There are 1300 steps to clim but it is with it and very good exercise!

A beautiful monument which tells the Bulgarian history through sculptures and mosaics. It humbles you when you get up there and presents a beautiful panoramic view of Shumen and the region. Be warmed that it can get very windy which is pleasant in the summer but can be cruel in the shoulder seasons and winter. Worth paying the entrance fee :)

  • 4/5 Kevin F. 4 years ago on Google
Pretty wild place. Worth the drive to see. You need to pay about 4 lev if you park on top and walk over. If you walk up the stairs from below you do not need to pay (well you do but they don't get you)

Great view of the city. A magnificent and huge monument providing a short summary of the Bulgarian history. Definitely visit if you are in the city.

  • 5/5 Alexandra B. 1 year ago on Google
It's really an impressive place not only by the size it has but also by the way the sculptures are made. You have to pay a tax of 3 leva to enter, but it's really worth it.

The price is clear, all is clean and there is a forest school for kids which was a kind surprise.Maybe around the monument the kids zone playgrounds shall be renovated and entrance fee shall be mandatory on each entrance to the monument. Its always windy so it will be a good idea to have a "Wind-Proof" spot for pictures which will help the visitors to spend more than 2 min walking around. It will be great if some information is listed in front of every statue so it's easily understandable.

The sheer scale of this Monument is difficult to explain or capture in a photo but I was hugely impressed not just with the scale but the condition that is not always s given for some monuments of this type. The mosaic artwork in parts was a wonderful surprise and the views whilst not amazing from a nature or architectural pov where great from a distance pov. To get to the Monument we climbed 1300 steps that can be avoided by a slope maybe 750m the right of the main thoroughfare. Tbh we could have avoided paying 4 leva each because only one cash desk at the top left of the Monument but think that's the wrong thing to do and we'll worth paying to fund its preservation. 200m below the Monument was a restaurant that looked closed (in October) but was indeed open serving very cheap drinks

Great place for spending family time! There is a wide view to the city below, the concrete sculptures hold part of the history of Bulgaria, the golden mosaic is very beautiful during sunset. You can get there by car or climb the stairs coming from the city center of Shumen. An amazing way for a cardio workout or a long walk. Half-way up the stairs there is a coffee shop and you can chose to continue up the stairs or go on an asphalt-laid side way up to the monument. The monument is also a part ot the 100 must see places of Bulgaria. Recommend 100% for visiting!

  • 5/5 Paul R. 2 years ago on Google

  • 5/5 Rositsa D. 4 years ago on Google
Cant fault it, really. Obviously, though, there aren't any tour guides or anything but you can expect that pretty much anywhere in Shumen. There is a lovely cafe half way down the steps, too, though it is a work out getting up and down

I recently had the opportunity to visit the monument dedicated to the founders of Bulgaria, and I must say, it left me awestruck. The sheer magnificence of the monument is truly striking, and it serves as a powerful testament to the rich history and cultural heritage of Bulgaria. The monument itself is a magnificent display of craftsmanship and artistry. The attention to detail and the grandeur of its design are truly remarkable. It stands as a tribute to the founders of Bulgaria, and it instills a deep sense of pride and appreciation for their contributions. However, I do have a slight concern regarding the condition of the road leading to the monument. The road was not up to the standards I had expected, and it somewhat diminished the overall experience. I believe that improving the quality of the road would greatly enhance the accessibility and overall experience for visitors. Additionally, I must mention that I encountered some difficulties in finding a restroom facility near the monument. It would be beneficial to have clear signage or better facilities in the vicinity, as this would greatly improve the overall comfort and convenience for visitors. Despite these minor setbacks, I would highly recommend visiting the monument to anyone with an interest in history and culture. It is a truly awe-inspiring tribute to the founders of Bulgaria and serves as a reminder of the rich heritage that the country possesses. In conclusion, the monument to the founders of Bulgaria is a sight to behold. While the road leading to the monument could use some improvement, and the lack of accessible restroom facilities is an inconvenience, it is undeniably a must-visit for anyone wanting to immerse themselves in the captivating history of Bulgaria.

(Translated by Google) "Creators of the Bulgarian state", also known as "1300 years of Bulgaria" is an architectural complex dedicated to 1300 - the anniversary of the establishment of the Bulgarian state. The monument is located in the highest part of the Danube plain - Shumen plateau, 450 meters above sea level. It was opened in 1981. This is her largest monument on the Balkan Peninsula with outdoor mosaics and the only one in Bulgaria, which presents the history of our country through architecture, mosaic and sculpture. (Translated by Google) An interesting idea and quite a modernist execution, something like "cubism". I don't see what the entrance fee is for, there are no signs and descriptions, you don't go up to the monument itself, nor is there a museum part, BGN 4. Adult, 1.5 children, family ticket only on weekdays - BGN 6, and a talk is paid extra . Even more so if you go to the left or down the stairs, there is no one to collect your fee.
