A good Zi Char restaurant with affordable pricing for decent varieties of dishes. As the name suggests, their signature dish is the char siew which was juicy and tender, the roast pork however was not as good , not as crispy or flavourful as the better ones I had tried. The standard Zi char dishes were good as well but slightly towards stronger taste buds 重口味. They are also able to cook vegetarian version of their fried noodle or rice which is good if you have vegetarian friends joining.

Extremely delicious Chinese roast meats at this famous joint in Jalan Besar area. Also vegetable and side dishes on offer. Surprisingly an extensive alcohol list for a Chinese restaurant. Must try if Chinese roast meats is your thing, especially the unique char siew (bbq pork).

Had Char once when the eatery was at their previous location. this time we chose takeaway, the roasted pork lost its crispy taste , can’t compare to dine-in, their signature char Siew still retain the succulent melt in your mouth sensation. Since is CNY period, the char Siew and roasted pork minimum order is 300g. Other dishes nothing to shout about, to us seasonal Tze-Char addicts, is still Tze- Char dishes but premium ingredients, I picked up the food the next day since I went down one day before to choose n make full payment. Staff were friendly though. Char could do with a better location, maybe in a mall or food court setting, happy with the prices paid, since is CNY !

Had their popular char siew, roast pork, dry clams, fried rice, 四大天王, and the Pork/chicken soup. Average. Their char siew is quite salty with the sauce, should considered to reduce the sauce.

It's a charm! Love their Char Siew and Roast Duck! Managed to taste their set menu for 5-6 pax last night and got to taste their other dishes. They were really good! The char siew and roast duck were fantastic! Portions were extremely generous as well! We added three additional vegetable dishes and the total food bill was about S$150 (for 5 pax!) Cheap! =) They have a small but adequate selection of beer and wine (reds and whites), at very reasonable price too! I will certainly visit them again! =)

Can’t get enough of CHAR’s Signature Char Siew. Melt-in-your mouth, the char siew is generously coated in a sticky black sauce that is a perfect blend of salty and sweet. Other than the roast meat, CHAR has LNY set menus as well as ala carte dishes to choose from for your reunion meals. Such as the Double-boiled Lotus Root Soup with Dried Oysters and Fatt Choy ($11.80), which is packed with wholesome ingredients like lotus root, pork ribs, peanuts dried oysters and fatt-choy. Or tuck into Stir-Fried CaiXin with House-cured Chinese Sausages while slurping the saucy Vegetarian Braised Ee Mian.

Fantastic food, service and clean toilet. Char Siew was half lean half fat which just melts in your mouth. Carrot cake had huge chunks of radish which I enjoyed. Everything else was delicious too. Definitely recommend to go and try!

Had their signature char siew, dry clams, 四大天王(vegetables) and seafood noodle today. Food is average and not that fantastic.. Their char siew is quite salty, full of fats. The noodles and the vegetables are super salty too.

Very delicious and fatty char siew & roast pork. Price is definitely on the higher end but the food is justifiable I guess. Food was served quite quickly too!

A pity that I only got to know about this restaurant when it's closing, it's really as good as many have raved! Service is fast and good too. The char siew fats literally melt in your mouth and they taste so so good. Would prefer less sauce as they tend to get jelat easily after a few slices. The XO sambal fried rice was amazing too, wok key and flavours are 💯 !! Recommended to bring along a few people to share the food, dish portions are too huge to share for 2 pax. 🥲

Food was really good. The duck was sucullent. Suited the taste buds of senior and young group dining. The staff were really attentive to serving us too. Especially May, their restaurant manager who helped to reserve a huge group of 30pax+ at a short notice, and the chef who kept the dish to really high standards. Portion are great for 2-3pax per order. All the dishes were superb, the must try are the roasted delights (ALL OF THEM, at least the duck) , three treasure vegetables, fried rice. Try the La Zhi Ji if u love spiced fried chicken, they serve it with an ice cream to put out the heat if required.

Ambience was great, food was tasty. Did a fair bit of research on reviews before coming. Ordered all of their hero or special dishes like Char Siew, Pork Belly, Mala Char Siew, Fragrant Roast Duck, (top 4 dishes) Tornado Butter Prawns, Avocado Herbed Prawns, Osmanthus Chicken Wings, Double Boiled Chicken Soup, Herbal Chicken Soup and Dou Miao. While the meats are heavier in flavour, I think it balanced well with my other dishes like Steamed Cod Fish, Dou Miao etc. Drinks though, can be further improved. The lime with sour plum drink was Reay sour and the other flavour they offered was passionfruitwith lemon which is kinda of a sour on sour combination..

Excellent zi char. The char siew was one of the best I’ve had - exceptional in its flavour and texture. The beef was great too - thick chunks yet tender. The cod was great - fresh and flavourful. From an earlier order, the roast pork was not bad.

Cozy place for a nice meal. Char Siew was excellent. Fatty, Soft and tender with the burned smell. Real Char Siew. 好叉烧👍 Now most of the Char Siew in many places are plain fake Char Siew. Boiled pork with coloring instead of the traditional method of preparation. The rest of the dishes was also good. I like the pricing too👍

The best char siew in town, it literally melts in your mouth. The other Chinese dishes are great too. Very good for its price!

This is a good place for roast meats - the char siew is on the sweeter side but overall tasty, and the roast pork and duck met expectations but didn’t really blow my mind. Overall definitely a place to go if you want above average fare!

Surprisingly the char siew is not the nicest among all the dishes we had. The chicken wing was great, nicely cooked and the flavour was on point. The sour and spicy soup is not bad, wish it was a little more spicy. The char Siew however was average.

Dinner on recommendation from a colleague. The highlight was supposed to be the charsiu which is chunky and melts in your mouth. We had several dishes. The original charsiu is as per the reviews, but the mala version wasn't as tasty. It was like mala sauce slathered over the original charsiu which gave a conflicting taste. The other interesting dish was the brinjal and pumpkin combo, which came in deep fried looking like French fries with meat floss on top. It was well done and tasty since I don't eat brinjal unless it's tempura. Can't tell that it was brinjal since the texture was crispy. Ice cream with mala chicken was also a pretty good dish, along with the herbal chicken soup. There was a lot of herbs in the soup which I finished off.

I have enjoyed the food here since i started patronising last year. The Char Siew here is close to some of the best in KL (Malaysia). Other dishes are also very well prepared and tasty. Prices are quite reasonable for such delicious menu, considering its environment, services and serving portions. Highly recommended.

The roasted pork was really good and the Salted egg yolk pork too was surprisingly good! The ice lemon tea is less sweet. Didn't take photo but the egg beancurd thing with black soy bean and minced meat was really good to go with rice! 😋

Food is awesomeness! Best Char siew ever had . It's very good! The sambal fried rice is nice . Lastly, sichuan chicken is good and spicy and comes with ice cream to cool the spiciness for you.😋 Staff is friendly and nice . Highly recommend the place here. They have big and small table available.

Overall food is nice. Nothing much to complaint about. Char siew is nice, will come back for it. Mala char siew is something worth a try if you’re adventurous. Tofu crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Prawn is fresh and full of flavour, the prawn was just cook perfectly. Fried rice is savoury and nice to pair with the dishes. Personally thinks that la zi ji with ice cream and Sio bak just nothing much. Will come back just for the char siew/prawns/tofu.

Double boiled soup is great, the angelica garlic beef is nice as well. Pork ribs are great but a little too sweet. The rest of the food (fried rice, roast pork, charsiew) was average.

A little difficult to spot, but pretty worth the try! The Chef’s take on classic dishes were done so uniquely and delicious. Must try dishes are TORNADO BUTTER EGG PRAWNS, OKRA BANANA DELIGHT and SPICY SICHUAN CHICKEN WITH ICE CREAM.

Char siew is the best I've tried so far. Comparable with the old 88 roast meat at lavender. Mix fats and meat that melts in the mouth. Fried rice and tofu have wok hei. Roast pork is crispy but not tt wow though not bad.

Nice meat platter, which has roast pork and charsiew. This type of charsiew hard to find in Singapore and somewhat melt in your mouth. Roast pork is ok. The la zi chicken is good too but with ice cream bit weird. Saw other tables ordered their fried rice, and yes it is tasty too.

Food is really good. Fried rice was on point. Glad that Char keow tiao doesn’t contain those overly tenderized beef slices.

Great food. Attentive staff. We ordered the combo which included their Signature Char Siew and crispy roast Pork. The Char Siew was very tasty but I think the sauce is overpowering. It’s delicious but after a couple of pieces you sort of had enough. The crispy roast pork, for me, was the star of the plate—crispy skin, perfect meat to fat ratio—jist very, very delicious. We also ordered the salted egg ribs and it was spectacular. Very tender and the salted egg is not too overpowering. So good.

Came here for dinner on a late Sunday night around 8pm and the place was relatively empty. The food got served really quickly which is definitely a plus. The place was also sparkling clean. Overall, definitely above average zichar place. You can tell that all the dishes were well cooked. We liked all the dishes that was ordered and had nothing to complain about. The sambal xo fried rice was easily the favourite- well seasoned with some wokhei and the spice level was just right. The signature charsiew roast meat was good as well but definitely not mind blowing I feel. Will come back here again for a good zichar dinner!

Visited on weekend early evening around 630ish, restaurant quite filled with maybe 1 or 2 empty tables. Area inside is not that big. Order quite a few dishes to try. There wasn't alot of unique dishes tbh, quite standard Zi Char fare. Ordered the following items: 1. 300 gram signature Char Siew 2. Jade tofu 3. Duck Ee-mien 4. Sambal fried rice 5. XO carrot cake 6. Salted egg pork 7. Butter chicken 8. Sweet sour fish 1. The Char Siew came with a deep dark glaze with a generous amount of black sweet sauce. The meat portion I was served had a meat ratio of roughly 70/80% lean to 30/20% fat meat. The fat does a good job of melting in your mouth. However, personal opinion is that the sauce/char siew was way too 'charred'. It had a strong bitter charred taste that overwhelms the sweet sauce. The sauce can be quite jelak as well. Shared the char Siew with 4 ppl, and everyone just took like 2/3 pieces and was quite done with it. Not my personal type of Char Siew but I can see ppl coming for it if you really like a extremely strong char roasting. 2. Jade tofu is nice, soft and tender accompanied by a well balanced mushroom sauce that wasn't too salty. Don't need rice to eat with it. Had multiple flavour profile since you can actually taste the wheatgrass instead of other restaurants that use it purely for colouring. One of the better dish of the night. 3. Duck Ee-mien was quite normal, basically ee-mian in soy sauce. Not much to note. 4. Sambal fried rice is great. Rice is 粒粒分明, savoury and had a slight spicy kick to it at end of each bite. Even though I don't see ikan bilis in the dish, the dish tasted almost exactly like the malay dish 'Nasi goreng ikan bilis' but with a spicy twist to it. Rice portion is generous as well, quite big amount of rice in the bowl. But due to the sambal, rice can be slightly oily for some people. 5. XO carrot cake was quite disappointing, the outer layer looks crispy but isn't. The entire dish was just mushy. Not much of the XO sauce flavour as well, tasted quite plain. Had a hard time finishing it due to the texture. 6 & 7 & 8. Standard Zi Char fare, not much different, the butter chicken and salted egg pork tasted very very similar. Basically ordered a duplicate dish other than the fact it's chicken and pork. Overall some hit some misses. Other than the signature Char Siew and fried rice, other dishes are quite normal. Not alot choice as well since most of the meat dishes is fried battered meat + a sauce.

Go for the char siew, sambal fried rice and roast duck. Roast pork is a no go cos skin not thick and crispy enough.

Overall 4/5 Food quality is good, overall tasty. While as my personal preference to be more HK style char Siu, so I would vote for the imperial treasure/ paradise Char Siu instead of Char. Good to try!
