Ranking #1 on my list for Modern Indian and definitely a Michelin worthy restaurant. Chef Thevar is definitely the talent and presented Indian food creatively…almost like Gaggan! Booked the earliest dinner time and the restaurant is not big. The bar counter stands out and I asked for a non-alcoholic drink and up to the bartender to prepare and it didn’t disappoint! Food is creatively prepared and if you didn’t know, most of the items hardly taste or look like Indian food the way we know it. Flavours are balanced and not over powering. It doesn’t leave your tummy fighting with different spices. I especially love how the curry goes with the fishes and the small bites. The lamb…superb! Service wise, excellent and attentive. I got to try Chef Trevar’s recreation of Gaggan Last Supper menu (one of the dishes) and it’s excellent. Hope to see it in the menu! This is a restaurant I will highly recommend! Update: second time: as good as it gets since they gotten 2 ⭐️ Michelin!

Actually pretty much everything was good... But not much "wow", especially for the price. For the two of us, one of which had the wine pairing we were charged 990 SGD - but I reckon the value we got was more like in the 400 ish range. I feel like although fairly creative in the beginning, far too much of it had the standard garam masala / chickpea flavor to it and lost its impressiveness in the second half of the dining experience. I think the best items for us were the crispy pork belly (delicious), the beetroot Pan Puri (very creative) and the scallops (nicely done). Usually high end Michelin restaurants do lamb really well, but here it was a bit underwhelming and not that tender.

So far the best Indian fine dining I’ve had in Singapore. Way better than the other fine dining Indian grill around the hood. A lot of snacks and dishes included in the tasting menu so you get a bang for your buck at $238++. Do not give this a miss if you love Indian food! The lamb roti, briyani and snacks were our favourites. Will come back again!

A terrific meal. Fun and full of flavour, yet refined and delivering at each course. There are robust Indian flavours well blended with the expectations of fine dining cuisine plus curated hints of Japanese, European and Malay to further elevate the meal. The space is small, but still intimate with dark booth seating. They also provide multiple pairing options (Wine, Sake, Non-alcohol and an all the above blend). Will return.

I'm giving this place 1 star mainly because of the horrendous service we had received on the phone by Dinesh, who I assume was the front of house at the time, especially at an establishment that charges close to $500 for 2 pax. My boyfriend and I had made a reservation at 8.30pm for our anniversary after glowing reviews from our family and friends. On the day of the dinner, he called the restaurant to inquire about the availability of ala carte as well as if both patrons needed to order the tasting menu since I'm not a big eater and I would hate to waste perfectly good food. We explained that we'd made the reservation without knowing that everyone in the party had to order the tasting menu, and it would be great if he would be able to accommodate us and even if that was not possible, that they be clearer for other patrons who will visit their restaurant in the future. A few minutes after the call, I suddenly received an email from chope saying that my reservation was cancelled. I called up the restaurant to clarify what had happened and learnt that after our initial call, Dinesh had deemed it fit to just cancel our reservation without informing us. Not only did he not apologize, but also graciously informed us that he was dialing other patrons. He also then hung up on us stating that dinner service had begun and he needed to go. My boyfriend and I were very excited to visit this restaurant and had made this reservation a month in advance. We understand that covid has caused a strain on food establishments. If it was previously relayed to us in a polite and respectful manner that due to financial reasons and operational costs, everyone at the table needed to get a tasting menu then we would have understood. But Dinesh made it very clear that night that our patronage is not important and that there are other people on the waitlist that would gladly replace us should we decide to inquire on information that was not at all relayed to us. I'm sure the food would have been fantastic and if you're looking for a place that charges 200 per head and treats you terribly, then you won't be disappointed. Due to this experience, we will NOT be visiting this restaurant in the future.

I've visited Thevar twice now - it's the best modern Indian food I've found in Singapore. Interestingly, while some of the dishes were the same on both visits, on the second visit there was clearly more finesse in the presentation. The Michelin accolades are well deserved. I will be back for a third time! Excellent service, good ambience. Nice cocktails too!

Visited in Nov 2023 This was my long-awaited second visit to Thevar with the last visit being a few years ago before they even got their 1st star. It was totally worth the wait as the overall experience was fantastic. Every dish was so well prepared, presented and explained. The ‘playfulness’ and amalgamation of flavours across the dishes was top-notch. Hard to pick out any 1 dish as favourite as everything from the starters to the mains was 2-Michelin star worthy. Service was fantastic. If possible, my suggested would be to take a counter seat to see the dishes being cooked/prepared. This restaurant is a 200% recommendation for one and all. A bucket list item for SG residents.

(Visited July’20) Highly recommend to try! It was a chance encounter, I remembered it was right after the circuit breaker and Thevar was still relatively new. It was the first time all of us had an Omakase at an Indian fine dining and we didn’t really know what to expect. Beautiful colours, immaculate plating and if my memory serves me right it was an explosion of flavours - and a treat on the senses because you don’t really know what to expect and each dish keeps delighting you course after course - love the stuffed roti (4th photo) I still remember the flavours a year on! Big thanks to the team for such a memorable and lovely night. Hope P2HA gets over quickly and cannot wait for my next visit at Thevar!! Highly recommended!

No words to explain such an awesome meal! One of the best if not the best progressive Indian restaurants in Singapore. Every dish is packed with flavour and inventiveness. The lamb biryani was out of this world but my absolute favourite was the pork belly wrapped in beetle leaf. Everything was perfect. The old fashioned cocktail was mindblowing. Hope they receive 3 stars in the near future.

I went there and ate at the counter, had the chance to discuss with Mr Thevar through the whole dining experience, he was so nice. It was absolutely fantastic, I repeat absolutely fantastic. Services, food, place, just go ahead if you have a chance to offer yourself that kind of moment !

Great tasting menu, loved almost every single thing on the menu. Great blend of Indian and European to give you the look and feel of a European / French Restaurant, with the smells and taste of India. Would absolutely go back again. The only thing I didn't like was the second pallette cleanser, which was a bit too bitter for my liking. But all else were really fantastic little bites that accumulated to a lovely meal

Spontaneous dinner at Thevar with my manager. They were only serving chef’s tasting menu indoors but we managed to order ala carte as we were sitting outdoors. Service was excellent and food was delicious.

Thevar is what you get when you combine art and food. It’s indeed an experience. Worthy of two Michelin. I have two points for the feedback though. (1) I felt the main course of Tasmanian lamb wasn’t spiced enough. Most parts of lamb felt bland. It would have been better if it was marinated with some spices and kept for some time in order for the marination to integrate with the lamb. The sauces on the top and on the plate do not help much. It’s the main course so it has to be the hero of the menu with a lot of flavors like other appetizers in the beginning. (2) Would have loved if there was one more dessert. I love desserts and felt two weren’t enough. Overall, still a 5-star from me. It’s a great experience with an impeccable service. Thank you so much! We will be back once you change the menu.

Amazing Indian omakase. We were lucky to get a seat at the chef’s table and see all the preparation and detail that goes into each dish. The chef was very friendly and informative about all the dishes. The food was amazing! I love Indian food so I might be a little biased but my my mind was blown away by all the different flavours. Highly recommend this restaurant.

One of the best Indian meals I have had. Every dish was well thought out, with many different layers of texture and tastes. Sitting at the Chef's counter, we had the chef explain every dish and you can clearly see his passion and effort that he puts into creating the entire meal. Will definitely be back!

Such a fantastic experience dinning at Thevar by the chef Mano Thevar in the heart of Singapore. The photos or the words wouldn’t even remotely describe the deliciousness, flavor, aroma, freshness in each bite. Chef’s incredible take on #panipuri and palate cleanser have left us in awe! Not in 100 yrs, we could imagine that the most common street food in India can be recreated and elevated in a such a fashion. Anyhoo, earnest gratitude to the team at Thevar for letting us celebrate our 3 yrs anniversary and wrap our short trip to this country with such a joy. With all that goodness, there’s room to tell a much elevated story that truly represents the art. That’s one feedback I have for the team at Thevar.

In a space as crowded as fine dining in Singapore, for one to stand out it takes effort: quality, execution, service, and bang for your buck. Thevar's food was exceptional. The service was excellent. The dishes and pours generous. It's not cheap, of course, but you leave happily full and your mouth tingling. We're definitely returning to try the rest of the menu.

What a meal! Wow wow wow— start to finish it was beautifully executed, food to service to wine — all amazing. Loved their tasting menu and can’t wait to return and try the other dishes. Kudos to the team who had us in, fed with 10 courses, watered and out with a very happy belly in the current 2 hr time slot without feeling rushed. Go to Thevar, you won’t regret it!

Completely blew our minds with every dish that was served. The chef’s innovation came through!! 10/10! Would rate these as my top dishes: Prawn kachori, chicken roti, crab curry rice & lamb kebab wrapped in ramalas roti. We added on the pork collar and was the best we’ve ever tasted.

Had the most wonderful dining experience to celebrate the GF’s belated bday due to the dine in restrictions at her fav restaurant. So this was a most anticipated date night. Was my first time at thevar, and was hugely sceptical about the food, but there was no need to be. It is a great gastronomic experience, especially if you love Indian food, or food in general. From the first dish I knew it would be great. Every dish was subtle, and delicious. I was stuffed at the end of the meal, and I eat quite large portions. The pace the food was served was just nice, and we were constantly being checked on by the staff,in between meals. Thevar is Indian food elevated, and if you can, is a great opportunity to try Indian food like you have never before. Just so that it’s not overly positive, their prices are high. Given the quality of food, I guess one can understand. Just wish it was more sustainable to my wallet. Nonetheless,it’s a great treat to yourself and others. July2021 Chef’s menu Drinks: koyya martini ( really good) filter kaapi Fav dishes: beetroot chat, prawn kachori, oyster pakora, Damage: $5xx

Absolutely amazing meal. We have been to several fine dining restaurants in Singapore and this has been absolutely outstanding with the spectacular food experiences they served. Certainly worthy of the 2 Michelin stars they hold. Highly recommended especially if you enjoy Indian food. We absolutely loved how several of the dishes combined crunchy texture on the outside and an explosion of flavour and sauce/juice when they were eaten in one bite! The wine selection was expertly curated and I enjoyed some delicious custom made mocktails there. We will definitely be returning and look forward to trying the chef's table next time.

Thevar only has a few tables, and only two timings to choose from, 5.30pm and 8.30pm. We were promptly seated when we arrived, and ordered white wine as recommended. The snacks served were an amazing southeast Asian-twist to traditional Indian dishes and spices. What stood out for me was the addition of sweetness to savoury dishes, which made the whole evening light and filling. Our main was the wagyu beef, and the wagyu fat used to fry the briyani was amazing. We got an extra serving of it, and it was unforgettable. Definitely will come back when Thevar has a new menu!

Really good Indian food done with a twist. There were too many dishes so I will summarize. The first few dishes were finger foods that are a play on traditional Indian Street foods. Very unique flavours. The main courses consisted of a lobster tail (with a fried claw), a cured hamatchi in a coconut broth, followed by a braised short rib. All were really good in my opinion. I didn't really care for the desserts ( there were 2). All in all, this is a place I would definitely recommend trying at least once. If u like Indian food, u would appreciate the flavour profiles on offer.

I've been to Thevar twice now - Oct 2021 and Aug 2022. The first time was amazing and each course was consistently flavourful which made me recommend it to my friends and reason why I was back here again after the restaurant was awarded its second Michelin star. On my most recent visit however I found the quality of the courses inconsistent - the first few courses (starters, oyster, scallop) were flavourful and reminded me once more of the skill of the chef and team. However, I found the Chettinad duck roti, hibiscus spiced gujiya and madai courses lacking in terms of flavour and sometimes confusing to the palate (I personally didn't think that the hibiscus worked well with the fennel seed). I'm open to adventurous flavours but maybe the team should consider an experimental kitchen before serving to guests. The pinnacle of flavour was definitely the beef short rib and briyani and really wished I could have more. However, my friends and I had to end the dinner with a very disappointing cempedak (jackfruit) puff which tasted very unpleasantly acidic, almost like vomit - and this is coming from a person who loves cempedak. Unsure if there was proper quality control over the courses as the team expanded. The other areas of improvement I would recommend would be the acoustics of the place and the volume of the serving team as we had to strain to listen to the stories behind each course. Also our dinner had a few of our beverage pairing missed out and we had to ask the team whether the course was meant to be paired with a beverage. TLDR: Amazing experience back in 2021, lacking consistency in 2022. Team should consider quality control.

Visited last night with a friend. High expectations and they were exceeded. We went for the non vegetarian chefs menu which really showed off how excellent the cuisine is. Oysters, pork, fish plus loss more. Every single dish was excellent and had us chatting about the experience. Only thing I’d change when I definitely go back is to have sake as opposed to wine as Chef Mano recommended that next time.

Mind. Officially. Blown. Chef Mano Thevar has taken Indian cuisine and elevated it to new heights. The meal was an absolute delight with each course tasting familiar yet special. The service was friendly, the ambience relaxed. Sit on the counter for the ultimate immersive experience of the whole kitchen.

Enjoyed the food, service and ambience. Each food was very interesting and flavorful, presented beautifully with the plates and bright palatable colors. A tad disappointed with the pineapple highball, which did not have much punch as compared to the food.

  • 3/5 Lindsay 11 months ago on Google
Honestly, this experience was extremely underwhelming. Why were we here for 3 hours for only a few courses. The wait between courses was tedious and all we heard were the expediters berating the chefs. The food was alright, only a few items stood out (the chaat, pani puri, and chetinad), and the lamb was actually extremely tough and the knife wouldn’t even cut through it. We waited another 30 mins after finishing dessert before they even came back around for us to ask for the check, which was another entire process.

Truly deserving of its accolades! Wanted to try a cuisine that is not your typical fine-dining experience in Singapore for our anniversary. And we concluded the night by being utterly impressed by Thevar's execution of all dishes, which left us wanting for more. We have visited a fair share of restaurants, some with better accolades. And quite often, we were left questioning some of the dishes served even by the most renowned chefs. However, all of Chef Mano Thevar's dishes were properly executed in our opinion, especially the lobster "murtabak", lamb briyani, palate cleanser and the corn-based dessert. The lamb briyani was the true winner for us, as my wife who usually doesn't eat lamb actually loved the dish; and the briyani rice was probably the best I had tried, packed full of flavours and textures. And special mention of the corn-based dessert that was perfectly executed; elevating a very simple everyday ingredient to a totally new level of finesse. To conclude, Thevar is thus far the only fine-dining restaurant in Singapore that I can comfortably say that I would want to return again in the near future.

  • 5/5 Maria H. 2 years ago on Google
The dishes were amazing - the chef really managed to surprise us with the different textures and flavours! I especially loved the first three starters. Unfortunately by the time we reached the mains I was already so full and therefore I couldn’t fully appreciate the fish and lamb kebab. The curry rice was really delicious as well, packed with flavour. The two desserts were refreshing and fun! I can totally imagine this restaurant getting a star next year. The owner may want to consider some more training for the service staff though. They were friendly but still a bit stiff and distant. Also, when the staff poured my wine I noticed some cork in the glass and he told me to just try the wine first and then he’ll get me a clean glass.. The whole point of tasting the wine is to check whether it’s corked, which in this case was obvious. When I got a clean glass, he poured me the wine from the same bottle and I had a bit of cork in it again but didn’t want to make a fuss. All in all, the dishes were amazing and creative but the service could be improved a bit.

I still dream about my meal at Thevar a lot from time to time. Worth it, amazing experience, impeccable service. I don’t think there’s any like Thevar in Singapore where you get such world class Indian fusion cuisine. Every plate was a burst of flavour and colours, truly how Indian cuisine should be. My companion chose a fantastic bottle of wine to go with our meal and it was a memorable night. My favourite dish of the night was the Cured Hamachi with Apple and Leaf Sothi topped with Oscietra Caviar. I didn’t think the Uni Uppuma works at all since the curry flavour over-empowered the natural freshness of the Uni. Take note that they do not serve ala carte anymore and you have to pay a hefty minimum for their Chef’s menu.

Excellent twist on Indian cuisine, great subtle flavours and a very informative and pleasant team serving. Hokkaido scallops stand out dish, lamb tandoori simply excellent. Wine pairing very good, though we ran out of time so didn't get the last glass. No matter.

Everything prior to the dinner was disastrous. Barely able to contact anybody from the restaurant. Still, my friends were adventurous enough to give it a try and this place amazed us. Had the 10courses chef's menu (exclude one nibble right at the start and 3desserts to end with), some hits and misses but overall, the hits were so unforgettable that we wanted more! Dishes were really interesting and unique as the chef tries to accentuate Indian cuisine flavours. The cost was $198++ per pax. Recommended for a one time visit! (Note: they removed the alacarte menu since Feb)

Good presentation but the flavours taste all the same, strong curry in all dishes which killed the subtle ingredients such as oyster, urchin etc... Moreover they increase a lot the price of the menu so the experience is not worth it anymore.

Enjoyed eating here for the variety for sure. The only reservation to be honest was that they served shellfish after explicitly stating allergies to specific foods (including all molluscs but still served oysters). Then served vegetarian options to the same patron when there was no stating that he was a vegetarian. Had several hiccups like this throughout the meal and obviously expected a smoother service at $360/head. Would go back for an a la carte option but not an 8 course menu.

I was skeptical. Modern Indian... but was happy to have ventured and truly gained. Wonderful food. Excellent quality materials with innovative twists. Holding some core elements but taking some creative chances. All round a generally good experience. Also got "chased" out as there was the next seatings but all round a lovely experience. Recommend the degustation or "Indian Omakase". I liked the crab curry rice and the Pork in a leaf. My favorite was the Croquette. feel like the curry had "aged balsamic" or some sweetner. always like the vibe of this place, even from its Meta days.

The restaurant was packed but service was attentive, and Head Chef @mano.thevar’s food was, as always, robust in flavours and a joy to eat. We kept to the lighter dishes from the menu as we both didn’t want a heavy dinner. So after some discussion, it was decided we’d have the following; 1. Cured Hamachi with Coriander and Tellichery Pepper ($36++) - When he brought us this item, Chef @kwongheng22 took pains to explain the preparation and ingredients that were involved. I thought it was a novel idea to serve cured hamachi in such a fashion. The use of spices, fresh pomelo, @caviarcolony’s Kaluga Hybrid caviar, not to mention presenting the rolled fish in a chilled thick, creamy coconut sothi definitely got it extra exciting on the palate. 2. Chettinad Chicken Roti ($24++) - My number one favourite from previous visits, I swear it’s even more fabulous now because the filling of spicy chicken paste has become THICC. So I can assure you, every bite reached new heights of satisfaction. 3. Crispy Pork Belly ($24++) - This much-instagrammed item still looked as enticing as ever with the slather of sambal aioli and fresh betel leaf wrap. 4. Cumin Lamb #Sliders ($28++) - Kevin voted this his favourite of all. Clearly, the mini #burger of fragrant pulled meat, pickles, curry aioli and soft masala brioche bun was his jam. 5. Oxtail and Veal Bone Marrow #Murtabak ($28++) - I was bowled over by this snack! A crowd-pleasing creation, the dough bundles were crispy and the filling, flavourful and moist. Accompanying them were pickles and a mini bowl of oxtail curry that were executed to perfection as well. 6. Curry Smoked Natsu Pajeri ($28++) - The big #brinjal was a delight in every sense of the word. Smoky, squishy, crunchy and loaded with flavours, this is a must-try in my opinion.

The rest, like the pork with leaves, pork quality was not good enough so it tastes like kbbq pork, kbbq pork belly prob would’ve been nicer. - belly You don’t get full from the tasting menu - personal opinion Lower the price or be better at the food :)

had the tasting menu. extensive 9 course but our palettes were exhausted 1/3 through the meal. all dishes tasted pretty heavy and the best dish was the pilau rice, which was light and fragrant. prices have increased by at least 20% since a year ago. first and last time here.

5 stars in my book! It's a Michelin Star place, so go with great expectations and see them fulfilled. We had something called the "Chef's Menu".. Now what you need to know about it is that it's a gastronomic delight place where they deconstruct food and create fusion recipes that surprise your palate and bring that edge of zest to dishes you wouldn't imagine. The staff is extremely courteous and friendly. Service is prompt and graceful. The way they blend the tastes of South India with East Asian cuisine and give it new life and form is fascinating. It's a food coma inducing, heavenly feeling giving, scrumptious, succulent food.

Interesting Indian food with good service 👍. Give 4.5 stars due to lack of spiciness.

Unforgettable experience. Was really looking forward to enjoying a very nice, fine dining meal that isn't french or American. Thevar really hit the spot. Everything was done with class but also tasted homey and relatable. Service was great. Could have done with better music choice though :)
