Nice pub, but they don’t have Guinness beer. Cider pineapple recommended by the barman was great, thank you for recommendation. Free parking but you have to register your number plate. Clean toilets Overall was ok.

Very decent old school boozer with a handful of well kept cask ales. Very good food also, at £7 for a wide selection of soups, curries, stews etc. I wish I lived a bit nearer...

Super big pub. Clearly a centre for its local community. Very nice range of beers. Food was excellent too. Several large rooms, and conservatory & yard our back. Handy for station. Strongly recommended.

Excellent pub near Carshalton Station. Seven cask beers on handpump when I visited including a porter and a stout. Three real ciders also available. Lots of outdoor seating most of it covered. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Excellent selection of beers from knowledgeable staff. Not a Carling, Guinness or Strongbow in sight.

Have been going to this pub on and off for years now and it never disappoints! The last time I was there I decided to have some food for a late lunch. I opted for the beef stew with multigrain bread and butter...it hit the spot perfectly and at £7 you can't go wrong! The meat was a plenty and very tender, the sauce itself was tasty and full of veggies too! I could of eaten another! ;) So, if you're not from the area and are looking for a high standard traditional pub then look no further than The Hope! Very attentive and friendly staff also! :)

I will keep it quick. Amazing pub. Never had a bad beer or service in 10 visits of more. The staff are lovely and knowledgable. 1 minute from Carshalton Station and.....whisper it.... amazing value for money.

Proper pub. Great selection of ales and cider. Nice bar snacks and a nice simple pub menu. Got the sense it's a community hub and yet welcoming to everyone. Out side area too. And very specious so would be good for groups too. Will definitely be going more!

Craft Beer & Tasty food! Everyone is welcome at this pub, no matter your culture etc. if you want traditional pub, go there. We like the HotPots and I especially enjoy the craft beers. Staff are friendly and customers are relaxed & very civilised. Dogs are welcome too.

There is a reason this pub won the Camra award for 2023 (and many years prior). Nick, Mark, Dom and the team carefully source various tasty beers to delight all tastes. Karen and Zibbi create wholesome, flavoursome and very affordable meals that work beautiful with the drinks available. For those who aren't too fond of beer, there are many ciders, several spirits (including about 10 or so of each gin and whiskey) to choose from. They also have multiple ciders and mead to choose from. There's a large, well kept garden at the rear, which makes it perfect for the Summer, especially during their monthly beer festivals (held at the end of each month) Get there early to nab a table - they fill up fast!

It's always a pleasure coming to this pub. Only serves real ales, ciders and craft beers. Sadly no Guinness but they do usually have 4 dark ales on - so not the end of the world. Lovely little pub as you walk in with the bar right in front of you (where it should be). 15 ales and ciders with 4 craft beers on tap today including the 4 dark ales. A chalk board provides information on the beers available as well as a smallish menu which covers all the bases. The staff are wonderful and helpful, prepared to discuss what's available that suits your tastes. The pub holds a number of beer festivals throughout the year, including the recent dark beer festival, in a purpose built Marquee out the back.

Been here several times now. It is a real “clutch situation” pub: whilst others may vary and disappoint on occasion, The Hope is pretty much guaranteed to serve you excellent beers in excellent condition (on cask) in a great atmosphere at a very reasonable price every single time. Range is superb. Lots of “locals” but didn’t feel exclusive. A very comfortable pub to be sat on your own in. Good facilities and close to the station. What more can you ask for?!

Not been here since before Covid. Lots more seating outside in different configurations. They're doing a proper basic pub menu for lunch - ham, egg and chips - perfect. Cider and beer still served at the correct temperature. Prices not bonkers either. Lovely afternoon.

My mate has been going on at me about this pub for years and I finally managed to make it and having sampled their beers I have been pining to be back there ever since. They also have a large selection of food and ample seating inside and out. Pleasant bar staff and general atmosphere is relaxing. 11/10 easily x

Can’t believe I hadn’t reviewed the Hope. It’s a local institution and was my ‘local’ for several years. When in the area I still make an effort to go. Great range of beers, always something new, regularly have limited or rare releases. If you haven’t been, you’re missing out.

As far as beer goes, this place cannot be beaten. It always has a superb selection of ales and something for everyone, no matter what your taste. Its range of snacks is outstanding, and overall the quality of the food gets better every time we eat there. They also have a beer festival at the end of each month which is usually so popular most of the stock is gone in a day and a half. Cannot recommend this place highly enough, especially if you have even a passing interest in a pint 😉

A truly excellent pub. Well kept ales. A good selection of ales We ordered a ham sandwich; it was very good. It was good because firstly it was real ham and secondly on a Saturday lunchtime they served the ham in bread that had clearly been baked in the past couple of hours. Then to cap it all they had about 8 Morris sides performing FOC all afternoon. A day to remember.

Really friendly and efficient service, with a wide range of beer and other drinks. The pot meals (curry, chilli etc.) are served until late and are great, with a decent range of snacks available too.

Had to drop in following Herne Bay FC's 3-1 win at Carshalton. Found an excellent range of draft beers, and also a good choice of craft beers. I recommend this as a great place for anyone passing, or going to the War Memorial Sports ground, the home of Carshalton FC.

Proper selection of beers on both cask and keg. Friendly staff and a monthly beer festival too. This place should be a site of pilgrimage for beer loving Londoners.

Great afternoon, as usual a few nice beers to choose from. Friendly and helpful staff. A decent chunky sandwich went down well then 5 pints later, headed off home.... See you again soon.

Phenomenal beer on tap, friendly staff and great beers to take away. If you like Craft beers well worth the journey.

Great friendly boozer with good bar staff and good simple food. Unfortunately let down for me by the selection of beers. However, options were clearly good for the rest of the drinkers as the place was very busy and it was only a Thursday afternoon.

Very nice pub. Serves simple but nice home comfort food and they do lillies cider. Menu is a chalkboard on the wall. No fancy apps. Parking is easy. Just add your number plate to the machine as you go in. Warm.friendly old pub. Very good prices. And for those driving they have a lovely non alcoholic mango cider

Famed for its quality and range of beers, it is a wet led pub. Though there is a good menu at lunchtimes and simple pot meals in the evening. Children are not allowed and dogs must be kept on a short lead.

Always a great place to chill out/meet with friends. Good quality and mixture of draft beverages as well as spirits/non-alcoholic and bottled/canned drinks. Can't knock the food either, both hot pot meals and deli snacks. Bathrooms are always clean and well stocked. The atmosphere may get a bit loud on a weekend evening, but generally a good conversation can be heard. Dog friendly and wheelchair accessible

Dropped in at lunch time for a meet up with a friend. As always, friendly service, great range of beers and good made to order sandwiches. Note that they don't allow children under age 14 in the pub. Presumably based on past experience.

Great selection of draught , cask and bottled beer - plus a great choice of food... Huge place, might look busy as you enter the bar area, but walk towards the back and you'll find out how big!

Always love going to my local, very good craft beer, such a variety. Very good and knowledgeable staff, even the new staff members know who to approach for the correct information on a specific beer. Nice beer garden with a huge marquee which can be hired for events. Toilets are accessible and cleaned regularly. Plenty of seating throughout the whole pub, inside and out. The monthly beer festivals are the best bit with such a selection of beers and ciders!

All that a pub should be. Camra registered, proper pub decor. Friendly staff, great selection of beers and even scotch eggs. Tables nicely spaced to conform to covid precautions. The best pub toilets I've seen for ages. The only let down is the diet coke, best to avoid. Will go back soon.

The Hope is a beer drinkers paradise with so many different beers on offer. Always buzzing and friendly with plenty of outside space to sit and enjoy drinking with friends or just a quiet drink alone. This is a community owned CAMRA pub and well worth a visit.

A proper boozer with fantastic beer. Pot meals are warming and delicious

A proper pub privately owned by share holders that puts the big brewer's to shame. A no nonsense pub that puts customers first. The big breweries always find an excuse for price increases ( government, covid etc ), but not the Hope. It's a special place so support this golden gem.

Not only the best pub in Carshalton, but one of the best in London. Incredible selection of beers, super friendly staff and a convivial atmosphere to boot. Cheers!

I printed off the beer list from their website and it ran to 6 pages! In the event I stuck to the draught beer. A nice traditional bitter from Downton called New Forest Ale, 3.8%, made a good session beer. I did try a mild and a porter but, as they were at the end of my visit, I don’t remember the names… The gents toilets are worth a mention. It all looks very new. There’s one WC, with a list of pub rules on the door you can read while doing your business. There are four urinals arranged as two pairs against opposite walls. Wall mounted soap dispenser. Dyson Airblade dB hand dryer and a paper towels dispenser. Two wash basins, each with a mixer and two traditional taps. The right hand basin seemed to have the hot water tap running all the time, and the fitting was loose.

Very good choice of ales , most under £ 5.25, good hearty food most under £ 7.50 Nice relaxed atmosphere with a beer garden. At the end of some months there is a beer festival Check with the pub for confirmation

Love this place - always new beers to try and certainly can't get through them all in one night! Sometimes have different beers on tap at the end of the evening from the start.

  • 5/5 Chris H. 1 year ago on Google
The Hope is a fantastic pub with a great selection of reasonably priced keg, cask and bottled beers, and other alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. They have a good range of snacks (crisps, nuts, scratchings, pork pies) and offer a small, but very tasty, variety of hot options as well (goulash, hot pot). The atmosphere is a warm and friend community vibe and there is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Having been coming here for years and plan to for many more.
