I visited this bar with my wife, who is Serbian, and we had an extremely regrettable experience. One of the staff, with long hair, and his colleague with a short black beard, behaved entirely inappropriately. My wife was waiting for me while I was getting our luggage from the taxi. She was approached by these two men in a way that I can only describe as harassment. They invited her to sit down to chat, stating they would serve her very well. The problem escalated when my wife decided to walk away from the bar, and one of them loudly said that she “didn’t understand English because she’s Serbian.” I saw this as an unjustified prejudice against foreigners and disrespectful behavior towards women. I confronted the staff about what happened and told them I would share our experience so others would know how this establishment treats its customers, especially tourists and women. Unfortunately, some people believe they can take advantage of tourists and act inappropriately without facing any consequences. If you value respect, equality, and fair treatment for everyone, regardless of their origin, I strongly recommend avoiding this place.

If I could give this place 6 stars, I would. Huge selection of local wines (including orange wines!), and knowledgeable staff. You must try the coral wines. Nik hosted us for a wine tasting with tapas pairing, and we LOVED every second of it. Every item on the tapas pairing was locally sourced by the owner. Would highly highly recommend that you stop at this place if you're in Split.

Perfect little wine bar just outside of the palace walls, nestled on a lovely corner, great wine selections and Marko (I think) is an amazing host / server who gave us some great insights on Croatian wine, loved the ‘happy’ red 🙂 hopefully can pop back in tmr for one before leaving Split!

Love this Wine Bar!! Very Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Had a lot of fun here learning and drinking local wines. We bought several bottles to bring with us when we set sail tomorrow.

Fantastic place in Split that I’m thankful to have stumbled across. While not knowledgeable about wine myself the staff were great at explaining terms. I was looking to bring a Croatian wine back as a birthday present for a family member and I had the best help in finding out what would be the ideal bottle Also, great atmosphere and staff are a pleasure to talk to Thanks again!

Matko is the most delightful and knowledgeable wine bar attendant around. This has been a drinking highlight of my trip. For whites I recommend the Chardonnay (it’s not like a Chablis) and for a red the unlabelled 001 You will love your trip here!

Wine tasting was really good, served with a very nice plate local delicacies to pair. The explanations where very detailed, Nick went above and beyond to explain all the details about their wine making, wines in general and the history of Croatia. You really felt like you were having an evening with friends. The price is definitely worth it for the experience, the wines were amazing. Even if you can’t make it to the wine tasting you should really try one or two of their wines. All the staff were super friendly and a amazing playlist which they were willing to share with us. Nick was also very helpful giving us further recommendations for the rest of our trip.

Great wines and beautifully crafted charcuterie board. We are lucky to visit before they close for the season. Some wines are no longer in stock, but the staff suggested perfect alternatives. Great (romantic) location, and very knowledgeable staff.

Excellent wine bar. Great selection of Croatian wines curated by a really friendly, knowledgeable, passionate owner. The wine is very reasonably priced, well kept, and delicious. The vibe is great. We weren't sure what to order. The owner asked us a couple of questions about our preferences and then confidently suggested a bottle. It was one of the cheaper ones but absolutely spot on. A house blend of two different Croatian grapes. Light, fresh and dry. Would drink again.

My partner and I dropped by MoNika’s for a glass of local wine because it was so highly recommended on Google Maps. We’re extremely glad we did. But first - this place is CASH ONLY. And they DO NOT SERVE BEERS. Matko really made our experience in Split. He’s definitely quite eccentric - there’s a super chaotic energy but he’s fun and friendly, and he makes sure all the guests are tended to. If you’re someone who likes to be left alone, I’d suggest you prepare yourself for an eventful night before you enter. Starting off with the wine - Matko asked us to throw out the window any considerations we had from reading the menu. It can be a little startling but trust the process. Depending on if you want white or red, he asked a list of questions to recommend a wine he thought you’d like best. We were happy with all of his recommendations, we let some of the wines air and the flavours were really to our palette. The inside of the bar is a little small and quaint, and warm if you’re going in the summer. The seats outside are the best and we were lucky there were people performing in the square the evening we were there. We stayed for more glasses of wine because the music was so good. We saw a glimpse of Matko’s kindness and generosity as he ran to deliver them glasses of drinks to thank them for performing for hours. Throughout the night, Matko kept introducing his customers to each other for conversations. He would come in and out depending if his service was required. Overall, we really enjoyed our drinks and felt the Southern European hospitality. We not definitely will be returning to Split for an evening at MoNika’s and Matko in the near future.

Awesome wine, very nice people and a great place. I highly recommend this place while in Split and if you have time, try the wine dinner at the winery. Nik went above and beyond after we spent an evening at their family winery. We came to the tasting room in town the next evening with our friends and Nik generously poured wine and found beer next door for our friend who doesn’t drink wine. Nick not only gave us recommendations for dinner around the town, but when we told him that we were chartering a boat, he connected us with a captain who helped us with our itinerary. Really a great time and the wine was really very good. Croatia is just fantastic and if you come to Split, you should go to MoNIKas.

We didn’t feel very welcome in this place, we entered the place but no one was paying us attention. On top of that no explanations on the wine and an outdated wine card from last year. Half of our picks were not available. Quite pricey for the wines and exactly measured on the mili liter in plastic measuring cups. Only a second star for the friendly woman behind the bar.

MoNIKa's Wine Bar (fyi cash only) deserves more than 5 stars! I loved my experience here and here are some of my highlights and tips: - The entire staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. Tihana made the "Sea Tale" platter I ordered and it was very good (specifically the marinated mussels) and pairs nicely with their white and orange wines. - Really good white and orange wines (if you want a funky orange wine, you're at the right place) - I told Matko (resident wine expert :)) what wines I liked and the white and two orange wines I ordered based on his suggestion were delicious. Matko is warm, generous with his time, and a hard worker. It's evident when you interact with him that he takes pride in his work and wants his customers to enjoy their wines. - MoNIK'as is CASH ONLY. There are multiple signs outside and inside the bar but in the off chance you didn't see it, there is a reputable ATM literally 5 steps away. Friendly reminder that cash-only is common with small businesses in Croatia. I understand it can feel like an inconvenience but paying cash helps businesses save money on high credit card fees, which allows more special businesses like MoNIKa's to exist :) As tourists, we're lucky to be welcomed by locals into their special country and the least we can do is to follow their customs.

This is a kind of place where I feel like home, cool and chill atmosphere, the location on the square is so cute and the place is always clean as a whistle. Every week I come here for a glass of wine, and reading some of later reviews I was motivated to say otherwise. This staff is welcoming, knowlegable and funny, but some people obviosly can't take a joke. I work in hospitality as well and I also come across people with no sense of humor.. So just keep going guys, you are doing it in a proper way, and don't change anything!! Cheers 🍷👌

A wonderful wine bar in Split, welcoming to travelers and locals alike. The charming and knowledgeable safe took pride in sharing their fully Croatian wine list with me. Fair prices and excellent service. Highly recommended.

We had the nicest experience here with amazing personnel and magnificent service. This visit was kind of an celebration of our engagement which they picked up after we talked about it with another guest who asked. Not only did the other guest pay a portion of our bill in secret to celebrate us, but the owners of the bar also gave us champagne on the house. The prosciutto and cheese we had with the vine was really tasty too. We would love to come back!

We stumbled upon this place by chance, but what a win! Everything about the wines, staff and venue is just what we were looking for. To be able to sit outside, watch the world go about its business and relax in the warm evening air with a fantastic selection of wines was a dream come true. The advice and knowledge the staff have of the wines, areas, wine makers is second to none. The most enjoyable wine experience in split!!

If you want the best personalized wine suggestions, most attentive amazing staff and great music - this is the place for you. In the heart of Split, this jewel of a little bar offers an amazing variety of wines (including rare bottles aged under the sea!) And an amazing atmosphere. The staff makes you feel like royalty, interacting with you to share their vast knowledge and passion about these wines. 10/10

Best wine tasting experience I’ve had! Food is thoughtfully paired to best compliment each wine. Monika herself provided us with a history into the making of each wine including which grapes / processes were utilised to create the various flavour profiles. Will return and would highly recommend!

👍👍 The wings were bbq style saucy and a little spicy. I love spicy so I asked for hot sauce and the waiter brought over a trio of their own signature hot sauces.
