Absolutely stunning!! The Vestibule (The Rotonda), (The Atrium), is the first section of the imperial corridor in Diocletian's Palace that led from the Peristyle, which was once the formal entrance to the imperial apartments. Built up to the beginning of the 4th century, as the original part of the ancient palace. It is a circular hall, once topped with a dome, 17 meters in height and 12 meters in diameter. Built as a grand meeting hall only for and selected audiences such as ambassadors. The entrance was adorned with a large door dimension of 2.56 x 3.96 ms with an abundance of relief decorations. The Vestibula area was cleared of four semicircular niches that were filled with statues of unknown deities. Southeast of the vestibule is the Medieval quarter, where the oldest building is the early Romanesque house from the 10th century. On the opposite, inside the church of St. Andrija (now part of the Ethnographic museum).

Sometimes you just walk around, look up and are disappointed of the view. Sometimes you are not - that would be the case here! Was super empty in the afternoon in end of September!

A large ancient Roman building that used to be capped with a dome pierced by an oculus, larger than that of the Roman pantheon. Sadly all of the facing stonework is gone so all that we're left with is the rough concrete walls. The dome is still in excellent shape though and one is left to wander if there was indeed a glass cap that covered what is now an empty space in the middle of it.

A must when in split! Very cool place before the palace. If you pass underground you cannot expect what is on the top. Unique place especially if you get a chance to hear some singing there. Make sure you do it!

Worthy of a photo opportunity!! Very cool piece of ancient architecture. I recommend placing your phone on the ground on timer, so you can capture the amazing roof and selfie of yourselves!

Impressive structure that once was part of the imperial corridor in Diocletian's Palace leading to the Imperial apartments. Just imagine how it must have been in Roman times

A must see for sure. Go any time of the day. I was there in the early morning to avoid the crowds. But you can get a great image any time of the day.

A group of singers were adding atmosphere to this building and even with the crowds, it was still an impressive oculus. Went back when there was no one else and that was nice too.

A few seconds walk away from the cathedral (go up the steps rather than down into the vaults) reveals this large roud room with an open domed roof. No decoration other than around the doorway but lovely brickwork and well preserved. Definitely worth a few minutes of your time.

Its still quite impressive but when it was first built it would have been even more so. Covered in gold and red. This Domed shaped space is the link between the original palace apartments and the peristyle.

A cool circular building with some cool photo angles. Panoramic mode and swipe up for a good effect.

This was entrance to the residential part of palace and you can still be impressed with the palace built so long time ago. Sometimes there is live music here and do visit in evenings.

Amazing architecture !! What a way to construct a Rotonda. It’s just beautifully built. Love it ;-)

👍👍 Easily missed and, in my opinion, probably undervalued part of the former Palace. In here you get a sense of the scale of Diocletian's quarters, and the various rooms in there. Also some nice impressions of the archaeological process of excavating this place. More could be done with it, but still de...

👍👍 There are three things synonymous with Split: Diocletians palace, Marjan park forrest and FC Hajduk Split! Since Hajduk was founded in Prague by Split students studying there (Prague is birthplace), you could say that Stari Plac is it's cradle. It is a historic monument and I am completely against h...
