Tynehead Hatchery

Tourist attraction β€’ Museum β€’ Fish farm

πŸ‘πŸ‘ Saw the buildings and river but the hatchery was not open when I visited. There were a few salmon in the river but the salmon run won’t happen for a couple of weeks yet. The salmon loop walk is beautiful and very informative. There is parking and public washrooms. The scenery is amazing. If you go... People often mention salmon, walk, park, trails, great, fish,

Lots of parking options, and a few trail options. I like that no bikes are allowed as the trails are not designed for them, Tynehead Perimeter is very bike friendly. Trails have a good balance of cover and openess, decent amount of picnic tables.

Bears are active in the park as we saw three separate piles of skat. Was a wonderful experience to have such a grand park within Surrey, great location with many kilometers of pedestrian trails only with bike trails available. Great for all ages with the fish hatchery and off leash dog area makes this a picnic destination for years to come. Love the upkeep and bathrooms available for use throughout the park, with the hollow being a favorite spot to enjoy. Thank you

Had great fun in their weekend event of Salmon Send off. Parking is limited. So you might have to check for the road side parking

Nice easy walk. One big stream and then several smaller ones. During salmon spawning there are lots of fish in their. Hatchery was open to the public this year for the first time since Covid. Those guys do amazing work!

WE go for the Salmon send off every year, it's a great time for the kids. There are a decent amount of activities to keep the kids busy for a few hours, and overall it's pretty fun. I've only been here a handful of times when the event isn't on and it's hit or miss weather it's open, but when it is, the staff have been friendly and knowledgeable. Overall a great place and it's right beside a very nice nature walk.

Really wanted to see fish but couldn't. There was no sign of any staff around to help. I stood in the office for a few mins then left. Took a little walk then left. I think being able to see some Salmon would of been cool.

This is a good place to learn about West Coast Salmon. You will come away with a greater respect for the fragility of the coastal ecosystem.

Tynehead Hatchery releases salmon stocks early each summer. A great family event. Young children love the experience and learn about ecology and salmon spawning. Check the Hatchery site for dates and times. Photos UML/ TravellingTimes
