(Translated by Google) At this point there was already a previous church building, which probably dates from the 9th century. Until 1233 the former church was expanded and renewed as a parish church and canons. The Basel earthquake of 1356 seriously damaged the building and had to be rebuilt. The choir was redesigned. The main part, called "Leutkirche", was planned before according to the guidelines of the begging order churches and was completed before 1388. The choir stalls are dated 1494. A spacious main aisle with white walls is separated from two aisles by light sandstone arches. The walls are richly decorated with picture cycles and murals. In the southern aisle there is the Entombment of Christ, which was created around 1830, and in the “Keppenbach Chapel” there is a well-preserved mural depicting the Annunciation to Mary (around 1400). The pulpit was built around 1620 and is attributed to Franz Pergo.
