A good place to go if you want to be away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Take a slow and leisure stroll down the alleys. You will be rewarded with traditional Japanese and olden Chinese architecture, coffee aroma and bakery fragrance, as there are a few cafes and snack shops in these alleys. But, due to the pandemic, many were closed when we were there. There are however, many small interesting details and decorations like the wall murals, signages and lanterns that brighten up and give these alleys a distinct identity.

A place of cultural alleyways, decorated with snail sculptures and creative artworks. The "snail" is origin from Taiwan Literature writer Yeh-Shih Tao, who described his old tiny house located at the middle of these alleyways. He and his families moved from a big yard to this small house in the small alleyways, as moving into a snail size home. There are also sentences selected from Yeh's novel or prose. By reading them, one can access to the old Tainan period and a poet's mind.

A narrow and short yet interesting alley hidden beside the busy streets of Tainan. There are very nice small tea/coffer shops in the alley, and small/big snails in the corners. A very good place to slow down and enjoy the life, the culture, the art, the coffer/tea. It's close to other interesting destination too, i recommend that you give yourself a couple of days and walk around in the area, enjoy the unique Tainan culture and delicious foods.

Just stumbled upon Snail Alley in Tainan, and it's a hidden oasis in the midst of the bustling city. The small, calm alleys offer a nostalgic glimpse into the past, giving you a taste of what the old city felt like. With subtle snail references scattered around, it's not just a walk; it's a charming journey. Perfect for a peaceful stroll, the alleys are lined with nice restaurants and present great photo opportunities. It's like stepping into a different era within the vibrant city. In just 10 minutes, you'll feel the serenity and capture a bit of Tainan's history. Snail Alley is a lovely spot to unwind and soak in the city's unique charm. Highly recommend! ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿƒ #HiddenGem #TainanMagic

Don't think this is all about snails, it's about old buildings, art and Japanese contemporary builfings etc etc. If you are in the area pop through. Also there is a l'escargot restaurant.

If you are looking to have a slow, quiet and chill walk around small colorful alleys in Tainan, well this is the perfect place to go to! It's nothing fancy, but it was nice to walk around it during the late afternoon. You can find a few small coffee places to grab one to go and then stop at a delicious fresh cinnamon bun bakery. Lots of cute snail art around as well as other art installations.

A really small alley with nothing to see. Just pass the alley and it's more than enough for you to complete your visit. I saw many cafes but all were closed during my visit there, took me less than 5 minutes inside the alley.

quiet stroll along a maze of alley with boutique shops that are very original. we opted to buy these dingdong cakes but they sold out fast. this place isn't grand but very charming for a couples walk along the alley and stop by in a coffee shop to just relax from the traffic and people all around to just decompress and recharge.

Right around the corner hidden. A great place for pictures and making a video! Teens, couples and kids picture all for a good 30 minutes of selfies! A hidden secret.

Quiet alley with cafes and bakery that cater for your needs. Other than that, nothing much to see

Interesting alley in Tainan city centre. Narrow lane area decorated with colorful murals of snails and funky installations. Instructions or signatures are not clear. Might found yourself out of the snail alley without knowing.

Actually, not all that snail-intensive. Which is fine. This little maze of alleys is authentically, effortessly cute, but is also aggressively promoting a hipster vibe that seems faintly ridiculous at times. Still, it feels like a quiet, charming meander, free from the cares of the modern world. Don't be surprised if the shops and cafes have an erratic schedule and may be closed when you come by. Worth seeing if you're in Tainan.

Nice place to walk around. Many hidden cafes to chill. A nice relaxing walkabouts. But beware, getting lost in the alley is a must.

Even with the map... It was confusing. So we just ended up walking aimlessly! Found so many cool shops and photo worthy areas. Well worth the trip!

A complex of homestays and cร es. You can feel the vibe of Japanese small alleys here. People try to decorate their house with snail figures (plastic, metal, wood) to build the concept of Snail - Slow. Quite interesting to find hidden snails. Went here on Monday morning and quite empty, quiet. No tourists. Cafes and homestays closed. Just walking around.

    Beautiful narrow streets

While I wouldnโ€™t go just to see this, it was cool to walk through one of the many alleyways. Itโ€™s narrow, people seem to live back here, I saw at least 1 restaurant and 1 bar. Walkway is probably better than most sidewalks on the Main Street

It is very nice to walk around the small streets and look for all the snails. There are some places to drink and eat.

One of the most unique and beautiful sight in Tainan is, in my opinion, the small alleyways intertwining between the ancient households. They are not only clean and well-maintained (unlike similar structures in other cities around Taiwan, such as Taoyuan), but artistic in a timeless way. The Snail Alley is just one example of such alleyways. More famous because of the snails, which I think are not really the main attraction.

small alley to go for a walk hidden in downtown of Tainan. Nice to find the small snail hidden in the corner of the alley. There is homstay available if you want to stay over and there are some cafe and teashop

Cute little alley, very Taiwan, to find snails, take pictures (apparently Taiwanโ€™s most prized way of travel), and browse little boutiques. Our girls enjoyed it. Hard to find parking, and maybe spent ten minutes here.
