We came upon this absolute gem of a place on our trip to Takayama, and we are so so happy we did! This is a hole-in-the-wall, unassuming restaurant that serves delicious homemade Japanese comfort food. If you want authentic Japanese flavors, definitely stop by. I was truly shocked by how affordable every dish is — if you are on a budget, you simply have to try this. You cannot beat these prices. We ordered the yakisoba, yakiudon, and karaage (Japanese fried chicken bites). Everything was so delicious!!! The owner personally prepares all dishes, and he was so kind and welcoming. We weren’t too hungry when we walked in so when we asked, he kindly prepared us our meal to-go, so that we could enjoy some there and take the rest to eat later. The noodles were so flavorful especially with the accompanying sauces, and the chicken was crispy and juicy. The whole thing came out to under $12 USD. This is my new obsession and I’m sad I won’t always have this incredible little spot near me. 100/10 recommend.

A small kitchen operated by owner alone. Friendly n homely food. This cozy shop back is fronting the bus station but easily missed from ticket office. It's facing family mart at the main road. Open early at 8am. We enjoy the warm breakfast before getting on the bus. Recommended.

Nice authentic restaurant near Takayama Station. We ordered the yaki soba and the hida beef curry with rice and and they were amazingly yummy. The store owner aka chef is also very friendly and warm, adding the whole experience more joyful. I’d strongly recommend to eat there. It’s only 3 mins walking distance from Takayama Station and located at the opposite Family Mart.

Perfect place to grab a quick meal near the bus station (perfect for tourists). Kindest owner you’ll ever meet - he can even speak English! You’ll feel right at home once you enter and the food’s quality hits just right. Thank you for this heartwarming experience.

Chanced upon this place which is just opposite the family mart at takayama Station. It was cold and this homemade comfort food was what I needed! Curry rice was sold out so I had yakiudon and karaage. Will definitely love to come here again!

The man who runs the small little homely restaurant is the sweetest! We didn’t speak any Japanese but he brought over an English menu, and could say key English words. The food was so delicious and homely and for such a good price! Don’t be afraid to walk into this in-assuming restaurant ❤️

I had dinner here. The chef was friendly and offered me an English menu. He speaks simple English. Hida beef curry rice is delicious. He noticed I finished the curry and offered me more curry. I will come again when I’m in Takayama.

The owner is amazing and explained everything in english and with great patience. The food was delicious, specially the udon soup 🍲 Would recommend if you need somewhere to stop for nice food. The prices are extremely cheap as well!!
