👍👍 The owners are really fun people to talk to. The chef has been making sushi for 55 years! I think the special or deluxe set are well worth the money. Service is very quick and worth the price; much better sushi than you can get in the USA. One thing to be a bit aware of is that the chef may use more... I don't know why this place has such high reviews... The sushi rice was so messy and did not stick together at all... The chef also kept sneezing... the table seemed sticky and unclean (as did the restaurant generally.) The miso soup was not good. All the reviews mention the staff being very friendly-- I mean, there's an English menu and they aren't rude, but I didn't get a particularly friendly vibe (even though I am fluent in Japanese and usually strike up easy conversations with people in this city.) The fish was also not fresh. The salmon was not bad though. There is so much wasabi in each piece too and not in a "this is just the chefs recommendation" way... It seemed almost rude or at the very least uncaring. If there is literally no where else open and you haven't really had good sushi in Japan, I mean, this won't kill you and I suppose it's better than starving. But there are other sushi places for the same price that if you go early enough you don't need a reservation for (I'll check and edit the review to remember the name later but just Google it.)

We went to the restaurant at about 9pm and it seemed like they were aboto retire for the night, but upon our entrance - all the lights were turned on again and they were happy to serve us. We were really touched by the gesture. On top of that, the whole dining experience was authentic and exquisite - chef eiichi served us the food and told us not to worry about the menu because he serves food from the heart! And we really enjoyed our time there. After the meal, we even took photo with the chef. All the ingredients were super fresh and super value for money. This is not a fancy dining but simple, real, authentic food from the heart.

Feel like very difficult to find other food than Beef. The sushi here is very nice and fresh. The owner will make the sushi on the spot. The restaurant owned by old couple. We are family of 4, ordering 2 set of sushi. The owner and local customer really friendly and we have a short chat while eating with simple english.

This is a small and charming sushi restaurant, with an English menu available. When my husband and I went, we were seated immediately and there was just the sushi chef and one other woman working. The restaurant ended up being at full capacity at one point and the one woman was running around lol. That being said, the woman was still timely at taking our order but afterwards the service was on the slower side. But all the food was delicious and fresh (made it worth the wait). We got two set meals and our total came to ¥4700. All in all, a great experience. The staff were so friendly and the chef also poses for pictures (cute) and they speak English, which helps all those non-Japanese speakers, such as myself :)

Great Sushi with reasonable price. You don't need to add shoyu or wasabi. *came here again in Nov 2022. I still recommended you all to try.

Beside having sushi, we special request to Master Chef to prepare Hida Beef Don for my 2 sons. Beef is very tender and delicious. Thank you Master Chef

Visited for dinner and ordered the 3000yen set. Sushi toppings were generous, fresh and tasted amazing! Owner was very friendly and welcoming and we took a photo together after. Totally enjoyed the meal!

Absolutely fantastic. The food was amazing, and very reasonably priced. The owner and chef is extremely warm and kind to everyone. They are open relatively late for this area. If you are craving sushi and authentic Japanese food, definitely stop by here. Will be back soon

The Sushi Master had excellent sushi and they really made you feel at home from the moment you walk in. I highly recommend going here if you want to taste high quality sushi and watch the sushi master prepare dishes while brightening everyone’s day.

The couple who are in charge of the restaurant were adorable! We had a pleasant experience. He was making jokes all the time. Even they didn't speak much english communication was easy. It didn't seem touristy to us sinenwe had dinner surrounded with japanese costumers.

We love it. Place doesn't have great ambiance, cut of the fish not super clean, but everything is just delicious, fresh Warmth of staff hospitality oozes despite language barrier. Had one of the best negitoro maki we've ever had. Very reasonable price.

I’ve been in Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Matsumoto, Nara, Kawaguchiko... but here in Takayama - in Mikoto Sushi I get the best sushi so far!!! Good rice and fish temperature, fresh ingredients, perfect cuts. And what’s most important - great atmosphere thanks to the chef and his wife.
