Riverside markets in the morning is good for the soul. 😌 Especially if you get to try a variety of free food tasting along the way! Vast selection of vegetables, pickled goods, souvenirs, etcetera. 🥕 The strong flow of the river makes the natural ambiance more calming. Worth waking up earlier than usual. 😉

This was nice to tour in the morning. They are open from 7a-12p. A lot of local, small booths with specialties from the area. Almost everything is cash only. Highly recommend!

I went during a cold snowy morning. It was super tough to go through the whole market and enjoy as the snow was so heavy. The stalls itself sold mainly produce and didn’t feel too touristy as there aren’t many souvenirs or food items. I saw just a few like the takoyaki and there was a coffee shop that sold barista level coffee poured into a edible cup. Other than that there wasn’t anything they really caught my eye. I would say if you are considering to stay the night just to check this out, you can give it a miss.

2022/05/30. Went in the morning. Very cool atmosphere. Lots of local made handicrafts, local food and vegetables. Water of Miyagawa is so clean. Must visit if you are in Takayama.

Good place to visit and walk thru to eat breakfast slowly on the go over approx. 300m length of pop-up stores by the river side and shops by the river bank. An essential part of any visit to Takayama. Enjoy!

Nice morning market to take a stroll, the stretch is about 100-150m long. Mostly souvenirs or local produce. I would say I’m mostly there for the stroll. The market closes at 12pm. There is a nice river by the side which you can get some photos in. Could see some people feeding the koi fishes too.

This is mainly a produce/farmers market with a few souvenir and food/coffee stalls. The souvenirs are mainly the same as those at the old street. If you are not an early bird, better to sleep in or go sightseeing earlier. Takes about 10 minute to walk through the market. Visited on a Thursday morning. I heard there are more interesting stalls on the weekend.

The morning market, where local producers sell various goods, some bonsai, some gardens, some handmade souvenirs. The market takes place in the street along the river. It works for a short time, about a couple of hours in the morning. What really attracts attention is that you can meet various and interesting people. Also in the same street there are constantly operating shops. If this street is passed and you still have time - you need to cross the street to the south side and there you will see the spirit of the old quarters with shops, Japanese snacks or traditional Japanese dishes and drinks. You can really have fun for the whole half day.

The market is relatively small but enough to hold your interest for an hour until the main streets open up. A variety of local produce, eateries and knick knacks for tourists. You can also buy fish food at one stall and wander down to the river ramp to feed the ducks and carp which keeps the kids interested.

🥰 Sells yummy hida milk pudding with real vanilla beans, and fluffy egg white cake that tastes like marshmallow. Other interesting shops - peach 🍑 shop, cookie cup expresso ☕, taiyaki, takoyaki, and of course HIDA BEEF! 🐮 💕 Opens from 7-12pm.

It is a lively morning market located beside a scenic river. Shop owners are also friendly. And there are lots of delicious food that you can choose from. There are even delicacies which you can't even find in other prefectures.

Nice little street with shops lined up, food got a morning stroll. The best parts of the street were the small japanese snacks sold. Look out for the stall selling the square egg marshmallow thing. It was delicious!

One of the market street must visit when you at Takayama. You will experience the local market feel. There are some stores you must try out on the street. Garage cafe DOTO, I have been to Japan for weeks and been trying out lots of local coffees but this one is by far the best. And a lady (forgot the store name) that sell Dango & Goheimochi rice cake. Her price is the most fair and taste is also the best. And yes, this is a must vist place.

We recommend waking up @ 7/8 to go here for a quiet stroll along the river. Not many stalls were available during our visit tho maybe bec of the holidays / New Year. I enjoyed the grilled mochi, takoyaki & hot choco!

Very cool morning market. There are several market vendors selling fresh fruits and vegetables and it’s also not very crowded. We tried several interesting snacks here like beef bun and this bread cube made of egg whites. Do check out the apple vendor, best apple I’ve had in my life!

It’s a fun experience to walk down the market in the morning to see what everyone is selling. When we came (early July on a weekday) things were pretty quiet. There were still some places that were selling yummy bites to eat so we enjoyed some baby taiyaki and some onigiri. Definitely a place to visit if you’re in Takayama.

Nice little morning market. Definitely more lively on the weekend. (We wanted to try the coffee served in a pastry-cup but they were closed on Monday.) The sellers were all very friendly. It’s an interesting place to try some snacks (or mini apples) and pick up some souvenirs. I hoped to find some local honey, which I did, but was way over by budget. (It must have been very very good. Or maybe October is the wrong season.) The stall opposite the stairs leading down to the river sells small bags food (100 Yen) to feed the fish. They’re not displayed too prominently.

Very clean and friendly place for the morning walk, next to beautiful river. Fresh and tasty food. Unbelievable choice of great tasting sake.

Visited first week of December on a Saturday morning and there were lots of stalls open. Really enjoyed wandering around and trying some of the foods. Worth a visit

The market was small but offered the opportunity to see koi swimming in the crystal clear river, and to taste some street food for breakfast. The Takayama old town is the star though, not the market.

Small and very clean market. We walked around in the morning, it was pastoral and pleasant. Do not miss the museum

Nice to see local foods and some trinkets. Kids will love the nearby river with large koi fish. There is a rice ball eatery nearby for snacks.

We had so much fun exploring the long alley with souvenirs and food stalls everywhere. Prices are relatively expensive but it was worth it. There are plenty of free taste as well so you can actually try before buying. There is a unique mushroom tea being sold here which is one of a kind. They are only open until noon and the famous Sanmachi Suji street is also nearby but shops were still closed when we were there past 10am.

Nice early morning walk and see what the local market has to offer along with the tourist shops. 100yen for fish food to feed the kois and trout by the river .

A must-visit when in Takayama! Come with an appetite and you can get your fill of Hida beef sushi, freshly baked piping hot butter croissant, coffee, and snacks. There are souvenir shops and fresh fruits for sale. Some stalls start as early as 8am.

Seemed like a good market. I had a quick walk through at 11:15, but realised I didn’t have any cash left. When I returned at 11:45 the market was all gone. So be aware they close earlier than what it says on google. PS: There’s a lovely elderly lady at the end, who sells hand-made items from Japanese-patterned fabric.

Tourist orientated market, you can find many food stall, wood craft, flower and also souvenir stall and shop. Definitely interesting to a tourist and good to explore in the early morning. The market located next to a beautiful river/ canal with crystal clear water and fish swimming in the river.

Absolutely wonderful. Old style village. Very friend people. Great sake distilleries. I highly miss this part of Japan. A lot slower pace than the big cities where you can have a nice stroll and relax.

So much fun to see the local artisans, crafts, and foods. We found a vegan option as well. At the end, a man sells sesame crisps that are vegan. His business has been in the family for over 100 years and is so friendly. The rest was enjoyable as well. Most people spoke good English and enjoyed chatting. Even on our very rainy day they were open!

Japan is famous for its morning markets, and this is one of them. It is better to go early to catch the market in action. The famous Hida beef bun and a lot of eateries are lined up along the streets.

It is a morning market placed on the stream side that you can walk comfortably with many things to choose from. In the winter the stream is covered with snow, but in the summer has ducks and koi fish swim in the stream.

Good experience to enjoy walking here in the morning. Open early morning until 12:00 in the midday. There are groceries, souvenirs, Japanese sweets, and many more at here. Situated near to Miyagawa river, you can go down near the river.
