I stayed at Miyama Ouan for three nights with my husband and it was an exceptional experience! We haven't felt so relaxed in a while thanks to all the amazing onsens, including our own private onsen with a hot bath and two private outdoor onsens we tried during our stay. The food was exceptional as well, we had a chance to try so many different traditional delicacies here. Each dinner and breakfast was an experience with a beautiful view of the mountains. We also loved free snacks available such as ice cream or cold milk. Last but not least, the biggest highlight of this hotel is the staff! Throughout our whole stay everyone was very kind and welcoming. On our way back after the check out we realized we forgot passports in our room. The hotel staff literally went an extra mile to help us. They arranged a bus driver to deliver the passports to us as soon as possible. They were extremely helpful during this emergency and we really appreciate it. We highly recommend staying at Miyama Ouan!

The staff is friendly and helpful. Accommodation is good as the one I chose was the highest price with outdoor private hot spring bath. However food is only served at the restaurant. Food was average and not a wide variety given the high price. Breakfast was not buffet and was totally Japanese. It also took a long time for the breakfast to be ready. Not one of the best when compared to other hot spring hotel/ryokan.

This Onsen resort throughout our 3 nights was exceptional. From the first night, we were greeted with great hospitality and service. The spa bathes was really relaxing, both the bamboo and stone private spas were really well maintained and really rejuvenating. I highly suggest that it is better to explore the hotel first once you check in as it isn’t your typical hotel. It has many twists and turns from your room to the hotel lobby, it’s only restaurant and the private and public spas. The restaurant itself is a set course menu and it’s okay if you don’t finish it all. This is a great Onsen if you want to experience Japanese spa or you want to explore mountains of Gifu prefecture.

Private hot spring is great! Outdoor hot spring with snowy scene is outstanding. Japanese style dinner and breakfast taste wonderful. It is also great to have free ramen for meal after dinner.

My husband and I stayed for two nights. I had by accident only reserved a double room for one person, at the hotel the reception staff said no problem and added the second person to the same reserved room. We were not informed about any additional costs. At the check out, we received an invoice for double the price, saying that we would have to pay the desk rate for the second person. In Europe, you usually pay a small fee to add a second person to a double room and the breakfast but not double the price, especially when you are not informed about it in the beginning of your stay. We tried to explain and showed the rates we would get from Agoda when adding a second person, which would be 200$ less and seems more reasonable. Instead of lowering the price the hotel staff asked my husband to choose things from their gift store, he asked how many - no answer but the hotel staff accompanied my husband to choose the things and put them in the gift basket - so we chose gifts in the amount of around 100$. At no point the staff said anything about stopping to choose. Arriving back at the counter the manager came and yelled that he would call the police. My husband was very confused and of course did not take any of the selected gifts. Again here, bad communication - asking us to chose from the gift store and then wanting to call the police. Overall, the facilities are great, however if you travel here be aware and communicate very clearly at the check in about any changes to the reservation and prices.

Wow! Lovely onsen in Hirayu. Service was incredible and staff had translation devices to speak English well with us. There is a private onsen in your room (fits one person), private indoor (fits ~two) and outdoor onsens (fits ~two) and a public one (separated genders) in the same building. The private outdoor onsen you do need to reserve, which you can do on check in. This is for a 30 min time slot (no additional cost). The indoor private onsen you can use whenever, as long as available so just go and check if locked. Both private onsens can be mixed gender. Room was lovely, and the view of snowy mountains was breathtaking. Yukatas and Samue available for use within the price. We got breakfast included which was an array of traditional Japanese side dishes with rice (see photos). You can also reserve dinner and I would recommend this, as there is limited restaurants in the area open in the evening for dinner. We didn't book dinner so went to Restaurant Momoniki instead, which is attached to a public onsen down the road. Food was good here though too.

This ryokan connects you well to kamikochi. it was really easy to get to this hotel from the bus terminal. the hotel staff will pick you up with huge luggage. if not, walking should take you 5 mins. as an onsen complex, you don't wear your shoes inside. the staff will take and prepare your shoes for you when you need it. additionally, the whole complex is quiet clean and peaceful. the room is large, spacious and very comfortable. I hardly wanted to leave it! Best thing I did was to order: half board. and I would highly recommend you do the same. breakfast and dinner were spectacular. as a kaiseki meal, the thought and effort the chef puts into designing the menu everyday is so delicate, thoughtful. I stayed for 3 days and my meals were never repeated. you don't have to travel to other cities to have hida beef. because the chef prepares local delicacies and flavours each meal. in my time there, the chef prepared local hida beef, local vegetables and pickles in hida style (both boiled and grilled) and hohba miso (salmon/mushrooms baked in miso over a magnolia leaf) for you to try. meals start very promptly so you can expect service to be impeccable. everything was a delight! (special mention goes to the staff who served me every day: Mr Jinyu Tsujino, who was friendly, helpful and provided great service) the view while you have dinner is amazing too. the spring bath in the room was very comfortable too. it was perfect for after a long day of hiking at kamikochi. they have an open air onsen for you to book for private use. free flow coffee, milk, yakult and ice pound cakes were also available on the compound. I thoroughly enjoyed my 3 days there. if you are planning on visiting kamikochi and can afford some time, I would highly recommend staying here for a peaceful and rejuvenating recharging time.

Excellent service. While it took a bit, the staff generally understood English, and took the time to help us despite the language barrier. Rooms were good. Hot springs were excellent. Location was well connected, so it was easy to take a bus and go hike. Dinner was very good, and so was breakfast.

Very nice hotel. Has many different facilities but it is like a maze. I spend about 7 minutes to get from my room to the resturant. There is no lift connecting the 3rd and 4th floor which is very annoying for those who live on the 4th. The lifts are very weird. They only have two floors on the lift buttons and you have to walk and take many lifts to get to your room. The email sent after booking was without commas and periods and it didn't make any sense. Staff was nice, helpful and offered lots of information. In most rooms, there is a private onsen bath. It is the same as the large onsen but smaller, private and you can control how hot the water should be. The room has a large wood smell as well as the chartered onsen.

Beware, this place only serve default beef option (not informed in any ways). They only bother to let u know at the dining hour, whereby the dishes are served right infront of u. If u tell them u are allergy to beef, their response is "too late, you should have ask question earlier on, and u will know we only serve beef" Speechless.

Miyama Ouan is located in Okuhida Onsen, Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture. Miyama Ouan has the tranquility of being surrounded by the nature of the mountains. The view of the distant mountains from the guest rooms and open-hot spring is very pleasant. The hotel has 4 types of hot spring baths, which are full of ancient charm. The hotel is very convenient to tourist attractions such as Shinhotaka, Norikuradake, and Kamikochi.

Stayed here for two nights as we were hiking in nearby Kamikochi. The food was amazing here! Location great as less than ten minutes walk to the bus for Kamikochi. The public bath/onsen at the ryokan does not allow for people with tattoos , but there are two private outdoor onsens and one indoor that you can reserve (and allow tattoos)

What's not to like? The property was beautiful and it was just a short walk downhill from Hirayu Onsen station. Their corted us to our table and take our drinks order, and within seconds the first course arrived. Every single course was as beautifully presented as they were delicious, pleasing both our eyes and tummies! We got greedy and ordered a plate of hida beef slices not knowing that a huge platter of beef was going to be our next dish! We ended up super full with big grins on our faces from that satisfying dinner. They have 2 private onsens and 1 public onsen. We didn't get to try any of them since we couldn't find the time to book. But our own ofuro water was already from the hot spring so we ended up fully utilizing the ofuro in our room. It was such a pleasant experience and it really get rid your body's tired muscles. Love love love it! On our 2nd night's dinner we informed our wait staff that we won't be able to have breakfast on the next day because we have to leave very early. He became concerned and he went out of his way to arrange a car for us to the nearest convenience store to buy our breakfast (foc!) All in all, we're really happy with the property, the service, the food, everything! Although the room rates is on the high side, it is definitely worth every single penny and more! Definitely would recommend everyone to try this hotel ❤️😊

They did not take care of us or keep their word. It was important that we eat at the hotel as my foot is injured and I'm getting around on crutches (hotel is located far up the hill from town). They told us that we couldn't sign up for dinner or breakfast our first night due to timing needing to be a day's notice, and this is understandable. No problem. However, they said we could sign up for our 2nd night for the dinner and breakfast and to just ask in the morning. In the morning they told us there was not enough food for that evening or the next morning (only 2 of us). We were given 3 alternative suggestions of restaurants to go to in town and we walked far to all of them (me on crutches) and all of them were closed, poor suggestions. I feel there could have been something done to help us with getting fed while here. I couldn't help that I was injured the day before arrival. They didn't even offer to move our room closer in, we are 3 buildings away and must take 2 elevators (each way) to get to our room. I feel they are not nice to injured/disabled people. They have a wheelchair at the front desk but when I asked they said it was broken and we couldn't use it.

We had a private onsen room! Very traditional Japanese experience. Once in a lifetime opportunity. They have onsen in the room and one common. The common onsen is in in the open looking at the mountain!! Very beautiful. The hotel staff make sure that we have the real experience of Japanese life style. We had 3 set of slippers. One at the entry and to wear all the way. One for room and one for bathroom!!! 2 traditional set of Japanese Yukata. The entire town is mystic and romantic. Onsen bath available almost everywhere; I am not sure if they were all free and anyone can use it? But it seemed like. A great experience for western citizens!

The location is beutifull, but that all. Rooms are mold and looks very old and dirty. The food was not tasty, it was only place in Japan that we didnt like the food, we paid and didnt took 2 meels and have them outside in the city. Service: 1.From the lowest levels I've encountered, messages are ignored and emails go unanswered for weeks 2.We ate only one meal there, during the meal the waitress told us like in a military order that breakfast is served at 07.00, when we explained to her that we arrived at the resort and we were in the hotel to rest, she was not really interested and called the manager 3.And finally, we realized that this was not the place we wanted to stay and experience the beauty of the area, we asked to shorten the stay and stay only one night The receptionist confirmed and said it was possible and they would get us one night, After we left, they announced that they had decided not to refound and were ignoring messages I expected more than that from a place that calls itself Rizarot and asks for high amounts

Superb. We stayed 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed the facility. Service was very responsive, our host were friendly and spoke very good English. Food was excellent and they took good care in preparing them. Room size was generous for a family of 4 with young teenage children. Good variety of public and private Onsen. Only negative is the lack of on site parking facility. Overall it was excellent.

Room was nice but staff weren’t very good. They do not lead you to your room and it’s very confusing to find the room. 2 elevators, then two flights of stairs just to find our room. We listed that we were bringing a child and they prepared the room for only two adults. No amenities for kids. The staff didn’t help with luggage or anything like other ryokan do and our in room onsen bath wasn’t even filled when we arrived to the room like most ryokan would do. Food was ok but not worth the amount we paid.

Very nice hot spring hotel set in beautiful countryside. Views are fantastic especially from the restaurant & hotsprings. Great food & service, well worth staying. Free shuttle bus service to Kamikochi is useful, plus a few other freebies thrown in such as drinks in the bathing area, fireworks & bottles of milk!

Fantastic public (with sauna) and private onsens - spacious and not crowded, but hida beef dinner was average. You definitely get better hida beef in Takayama town. Free hida milk and ramen were really good, we had at least 3 bottles of hida milk each!! The in-room shower was really scalding hot (no way to adjust the temperature) but public onsens were working just fine. Private outdoor onsens could be used for 30 minutes only and required a reservation which could not be selected by time (you had to follow the chronological sequence of booking). There was nothing much to do around the town, so one night was just nice

2nd visit: My wife and I, together with three children, checked the hotel again on Dec 23, 2017. To let the children feel what we felt, and to inspire them to do well so that they can provide in due course was the goal. What was particularly memorable to me was that I managed to book an exclusive outdoor hot spring called "Giant Master" and spent exclusive moments with my wife together! 1st visit: My wife and I checked in this excellent hotel in early June 2014. The environment, the food, the hot tubs (both indoor and outdoor) and services are all excellent! The photos tell, and we hope to come again before long!
